A New Earth

accelerate this inner shift? What is it that characterizes the old egoic state of consciousness, and by what signs is the new emerging consciousness recognized? These and other essential questions will be addressed in this book. More important, this book itself is a transformational device that has come out of the arising new consciousness. The ideas and concepts presented here may be important, but they are secondary. They are no more than signposts pointing toward awakening. As you read, a shift takes place within you. This book’s main purpose is not to add new information or beliefs to your mind or to try to convince you of anything, but to bring about a shift in consciousness; that is to say, to awaken. In that sense, this book is not “interesting”. Interesting means you can keep your distance, play around with ideas and concepts in your mind, agree or disagree. This book is about you

Theatres in Estonia

Theatres in Estonia Native Estonian theatre, born in 1870 with the plays of the patriotic poetess Lydia Koidula, came into being on the crest of national awakening. Its tastes were at first pretty simple, the favourite genres being folk comedy and romantic melodrama, although both also transmitted halfhidden social and political attitudes. In less than forty years, in 1906, the leading amateur companies, the "Vanemuine" in the university town Tartu and the "Estonia" in Tallinn, could become professional, and in 1911 the "Endla" of P ärnu joined them. Theatre became especially popular amongst Estonians in the second half of the 19th century

Protestant and an eastern Orthodox Church. Like the mainstream culture in the other Nordic countries, Estonian culture can be seen to build upon the ascetic environmental realities and traditional livelihoods, a heritage of comparatively widespread egalitarianism out of practical reasons (see e.g.: Everyman's right and universal suffrage), and the ideals of closeness to nature and self-sufficiency. Estonian culture developed in earnest during the nineteenth-century period of national awakening. Elements of Estonian peasant culture, such as songs and folktales, were brought together by the country's first cultural elite after 1850. Between 1857 and 1861, Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald compiled and published the Estonian national epic, Kalevipoeg (Son of Kalev), which was based on various folklore themes. Written in verse, the epic tells the story of Kalevipoeg, the mythical ancient ruler of Estonia. Another achievement of this period was the establishment of Estonia's first regularly

most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on 30 March 1853 in southern Netherlands. At the age of 37 he commited suicide after years of fighting with mental illness. He died on 27 July 1890. The Almond Blossom is a oil painting done on a canvas. Large white blossom branches like this against a blue sky were one of Van Gogh’s favourite subjects. Almond trees flower early in the spring making them a symbol of new life. They represented awakening and hope. He enjoyed them aesthetically and found joy in painting flowering trees. The blossoms of the apricot, peach and plum trees motivated him, and within a month he had created fourteen paintings of blossoming fruit trees. Excited by the subject matter, van Gogh completed nearly one painting a day.The works reflect the influence of Impressionism, Divisionism, and Japanese woodcuts. Van Gogh borrowed the subject, the bold outlines and the positioning of

The strange occurrences soon involve Katie awakening to spend several hours standing by the bed staring at Micah while he sleeps and going outside to sit on the backyard swing, none of which she remembers the following morning.Katie, already irritated by Micah's making light of the situation, becomes irate when Micah brings home a Ouija board, despite Dr. Fredrichs' warnings. with her as a reward for "playing nice." Jacob takes Bella to meet Edward, who is pacing while he waits for her. Edward takes Bella home and stays with her. Bella has a bad dream in which Rosalie is fighting Billy Black in his wolf form and sees the Third Wife's knife in her own hand. She wakes to find Edward reading Wuthering Heights, a novel he previously claimed to dislike. As he lulls her back to sleep, he tells her that she is awakening human emotions in him, and that he can now relate to Heathcliff as he couldn't before. The next morning, Bella remembers what Edward said, and finds her book open to Heathcliff's declaration that he could never hurt Catherine by killing her husband, though he longs to do so. She talks herself into discounting the passage as being indicative of the change in Edward's feelings.

city. The first prominent name in Estonian history of theatre, August von Kotzebue, dates from the same period. The Russian authorities sent him from St. Petersburg to Tallinn to work as an official. Kotzebue's entertaining productions became famous all over Europe. He founded the first theatre with its own permanent cast, and brought the Estonian language to the stage. Theatre became especially popular amongst Estonians in the second half of the 19th century, as part of the national awakening process. Theatres in Estonia, like elsewhere in the world, may be divided into three categories according to their form of ownership: state, municipal and private theatres. In Estonia, the first prevail; there are 9 state and 1 municipal theatres, the Tallinn City Theatre. The famous music and ballet theatre is the Estonian National Opera in Tallinn. German nobility vowed allegiance to the Tsar., the barons were restored their former privileges. Life changed for the better thanks to the opening of a railway line from St. Petersburg to Tallinn in 1870. Tallinn grew into a major port and an industrial centre, with huge shipyards employing a large workforce. Interest in culture grew and Estonians became conscious of their national identity; dreams of independence gained ground. Tartu was the centre of the movement of national awakening. On 24 February 1918, Estonia was proclaimed an independent democratic republic. Tallinn developed into a modern European capital. A period of prosperity followed, but independence only lasted for 20 years. 1 During World War II Estonia was occupied by both German and Russian invaders, and Tallinn suffered heavily. Estonia

Under Swedish rule the University of Tartu was founded in 1632 and also the oldest school working on the same premises was founded in Tallinn (GAG).After the Northern War (1700-1721) Estonia became a province of Russia. During that period the gentry of Baltic-German origin prevailed in Estonia. They kept estates in Estonia until 1919. Under Russian rule the Palace of Kadriorg was built and the park was laid out. The National Awakening in the middle of the 19th century brought rapid advances in the Estonian education system, general living conditions and culture. The national epic "Kalevipoeg" was published, theatre and music societies appeared and the 1st Song Festival was held in Tartu in 1869. Since then the Song Festivals have become a national tradition, being held every 4-5 years. This all lead to Estonia's independence on 24 February 1918. In June 1940 Estonia became a part of the Soviet Union. On 20

Among other Estonians, the heavyweight wrestlers Georg Lurich, Aleksander Aberg and Georg Hackenschmidt were famous at the turn of the century. Before independence, Estonians were the best in the whole Russian empire in athletics (16 records out of 29), wrestling and weightlifting. Estonian sport was therefore born before the independent state. Actually, it was an important factor in our national awakening. Several great figures of national politics, among them the first president Konstantin Päts, belonged to the sports association "Kalev" (1901). Because of that it is no surprise that sportsmen have always been held in high regard in Estonia. The most popular fields of sport are light athletics (Olympic winners Jüri Tarmak and Jaak Uudmäe); basketball (Olympic winner Tiit Sokk, Martin Müürsepp in NBA); chess

Tallinn

Peter the Great wanted to open a window onto Europe for Russia so he started the Northern War in 1700. Estonia remained under Russian rule and the Baltic-German nobility vowed allegiance to the Tsar; the barons were restored their former privileges. In 1870 a railway line was opened from St. Petersburg to Tallinn. Tallinn grew into a major port and an industrial centre. Estonians became conscious of their national identity. Tartu was the centre of the movement of national awakening. On 24 February 1918, Estonia was proclaimed an independent democratic republic. Tallinn developed into a modern European capital. A period of prosperity followed, but independence only lasted for 20 years. During World War II Estonia was occupied by both German and Russian invaders, and Tallinn suffered heavily. The bombing of the city by the Soviet air forces on 9 March 1944 left over 20,000 people homeless. During the Russian occupation which followed (and which lasted for five decades)

conversation with a stranger. Estonia has rich culture. Music and dances have always played an important role in people's life. The most original part of Estonian folklore is the runic folksong. It was based on the alteration of long and short syllables. In different folksongs either men or women sang and the songs were often accompanied by a musical instrument. Today folksongs are often used by modern composers. A major change in Estonian culture occurred during the period of the National Awakening. Choirs and brassbands were founded in every corner of Estonia, it culminated with the 1 st Song Festival in 1869. Since then the Song Festivals have taken place every 4-5 years and have certainly helped Estonians maintain their national identity. Tallinn is the seat of the Estonian National Opera. The Chamber Choir of the Estonian Philharmonic Society is also greatly appreciated thanks to the charisma and hard work of its long-time ex- conductor Tõnu Kaljuste and Paul Hillier

The Singing Revolution tells the extraordinary story of the nonviolent path Estonia took to free itself from Soviet occupation. A documentary film about a nation peacefully standing up for its freedom through song, with the unstoppable dream of reclaiming Estonian independence. http://www.squidoo.com/estonias_singing_revolution The tradition of the song festival was born along with Estonian national awakening. The first national song festival was held in Tartu in the summer of 1869. One of the organizers of the first song festival was Johann Voldemar Jannsen. In the first three festivals only men's choirs and brass orchestras participated. 822 singers and 56 brass players participated in the first festival. Starting with the fourth festival, mixed choirs were also participating. Starting with the sixth festival in 1896, the festival tradition moved to Tallinn.

literacy. This education programme would become the foundation for the progress of a nascent national culture and the development of a young Estonian intelligentsia. Improvements in the economic capacity of the peasantry on the one hand and the continuation of the education programme on the other soon bore the first fruit. The period between 1860 and 1885 is generally known in Estonian history as the Era of National Awakening: the emergence of national self-consciousness without political independence. The elevation of educational and cultural life, the organisation of communal and political activity became the main national aims. Estonians recognised they were bound by their country, their language, spirit and common goals in their struggle against foreign domination. The Estonian intelligentsia, growing and developing, became the spiritual and ideological backbone of the nation.

the Royal Society with needed funds. By 1700, science had become an issue of public discourse [ avalik kõneaine ]. The bottom line, I suppose, was that science worked! It was wonderful, miraculous and spectacular [ suursugune ]. For the 17th century scientist, science produced the vision that anything was indeed possible. Science itself gave an immense boost to the general European belief in human progress, a belief perhaps initiated by the general awakening of European thought in the 12th century. It was the achievement of men like Kopernik and Galileo to sift [ sõeluma ] through centuries of scientific knowledge and to create a new world view. This was a world view based as much on previous science and knowledge as it was on new developments derived from the scientific method. Isaac Newton

American Literature

The American Enlightenment is the intellectual thriving period in the United States in the midtolate 18th century (17151789), especially as it relates to American Revolution on the one hand and the European Enlightenment on the other. Influenced by the scientific revolution of the 17th century and the humanist period during the Renaissance, the Enlightenment took scientific reasoning and applied it to human nature, society, and religion. American Enlightenment a gradual but powerful awakening that established the ideals of democracy, liberty, and religious tolerance in the people of America. If there were just one development that directly caused the American Revolution and uplifted the intellectual culture of the continent while it was only a British colony, it would be the American Enlightenment. Broadly, the Enlightenment was an intellectual movement that changed the fundamental

The 4-Hour Body - An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman - Timothy Ferriss

I wasn't trying to help someone else. I didn't test a dangerous new treatment. Unlike the better-known sort of self- experimentation, which usually con rms what the experimenter believes, my self-experiments had shown I was wrong. From my acne research I learned that self-experimentation can be used by non-experts to (a) see if the experts are right and (b) learn something they don't know. I hadn't realized such things were possible. The next problem I tried to solve this way was early awakening. For years, starting in my twenties, I woke up early in the morning, such as 4 A.M., still tired but unable to go back to sleep. Only a few dreary hours later would I be able to fall back asleep. This happened about half of all mornings. It showed no sign of going away. I didn't want to take a happened about half of all mornings. It showed no sign of going away. I didn't want to take a pill for the rest of my life--not that there are any good pills for this--so I didn't bother seeing a doctor

Christopher Vogler The Writers Journey

O f course it's a good idea once in a while to give even these characters some moments of growth and change to help keep them fresh and believable. T H E R O A D OF H E R O E S Heroes are symbols of the soul in transformation, and of the journey each person takes through life. T h e stages of that progression, the natural stages of life and growth, make up the Hero's Journey. T h e Hero archetype is a rich field for exploration by writers and spiritual seekers. Carol S. Pearson's book Awakening the Heroes W i t h i n further breaks down the idea of the Hero into useful archetypes (Innocent, Orphan, Martyr, Wanderer, Warrior, Caregiver, Seeker, Lover, Destroyer, Creator, Ruler, Magician, Sage, and Fool) and graphs the emotional progress of each. It's a good guide to a deeper psychological understanding of the Hero in its many facets. T h e special avenues traveled by some female heroes are described in The Heroine's Journey: Woman's Quest for Wholeness by Maureen Murdock.
