MICHELANGELO
Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet. He was one of the founders of the High Renaissance and,
in his later years, one of the principal exponents of Mannerism. He was born in 6 March, 1475 in
Caprese, the son of the local magistrate, his family returned to Florence soon after his birth. During his
life he lived in city's like Florence, Venice and Bologna in Tuscany, nowadays Italy.
Later, during the prolonged illness and after the death of his mother, he lived as a stonecutter and his
wife and family in the town of Settignano where his father owned a marble quarry and a small farm.
Michelangelo once said to the biographer of artists Giorgio Vasari, "What little good I have within me
came from the pure air of your native Arezzo and the chisels and hammers."
