her) and Harry. Davis tunnistab üles that he broke into the room upstairs of Dorian's house. He saw nothing but a gross painting by Basil there. Gladys receives a letter which implies that Dorian is going to kill himself. They hurry to London only to find the painting in a perfect order and Dorian dead and really ugly.(book: servants hear a cry and break into the room) That night, Dorian goes to the locked room to look at his portrait. He hopes his decision to amend his life will have changed the painting, and he considers that perhaps his decision not to ruin the innkeeper's daughter's reputation will be reflected in the painted face. But when Dorian looks at his portrait, he sees there is no change--except that "in the eyes there was a look of cunning, and in the mouth the curved wrinkle of the hypocrite." In the movie he sees a change in the eyes and thinks he stil has a chance. He decides to destroy the painting and grow old as everyone else does
In 1927, Canada appointed its first ambassador to a foreign country, the United States. In 1931, the Statute of Westminster gave the Balfour Declaration constitutional force, confirming that no act of the UK's parliament would thereafter extend to Canada without its consent. Canadian citizenship was first distinguished from British in 1947; judicial appeals to the British Judicial Committee of the Privy Council ended in 1949. The power to amend Canada's constitution remained with the British parliament, although subject to the Statute of Westminster, until it was "patriated" to Canadian control by the Canada Act 1982.

power, majority consent and limited government have been instrumental in western political thought from the time of the publication of his Two treatises of government to the present day. Locke's writings refute the notions both of the divine right of kings and absolute government by arguing that peoples' destiny should be determined by majority will. In Locke's view this can only be achieved by what he defines as limited government, an overarching framework which allows the people to amend or even dissolve a legislature if it is perceived to break the trust placed in it by the majority. In order to understand the emergence of societies and the concept of limited government it is useful first to explore Locke's hypothetical scenario of what it was like before these existed. Locke claims man lived in a state of nature and that each individual was born equal into a ...state of perfect freedom to order their actions... Locke (1821, p. 189)

The president, approved by referendum for a 7-year term, is also Secretary General of the Ba'ath Party and leader of the National Progressive Front, which is a coalition of 10 political parties authorized by the regime. The president has the right to appoint ministers, to declare war and states of emergency, to issue laws (which, except in the case of emergency, require ratification by the People's Council), to declare amnesty, to amend the constitution, and to appoint civil servants and military personnel. The Emergency Law, which effectively suspends most constitutional protections for Syrians, was formally in effect through a declared State of Emergency from 1963 until 2011 and remains the de facto standard for security operations. The National Progressive Front also acts as a forum in which economic policies are debated and the country's political orientation is determined. However, because of Ba'ath
The legislature is a deliberative assembly with the authority to make laws for a political entity such as a country or city. Legislatures form important parts of most governments; in the separation of powers model, they are often contrasted with the executive and judicial branches of government. Laws enacted by legislatures are known as legislation. Legislatures observe and steer governing actions and usually have exclusive authority to amend the budget or budgets involved in the process. The members of a legislature are called legislators; in a democracy, legislators are almost always elected. The executive is the organ that exercises authority in and holds responsibility for the governance of a state. The executive executes and enforces law. In political systems based on the principle of separation of powers, authority is distributed among several branches (executive, legislative, judicial) — an attempt to prevent the
3. Second reading: A debate on the general principles of the bill is followed by a vote. 4. Committee stage: This usually takes place in a standing committee in the Commons and on the Floor of the House in the Lords. The committee considers each clause of the bill, and may make amendments to it. 5. Consideration (or report) stage: this takes place on the floor of the House, and is a further opportunity to amend the bill. Unlike committee stage, the House need not consider every clause of the bill, only those to which amendments have been tabled. 6. Third reading: a debate on the final text of the bill, as amended. 12 7. Passage: The bill is then sent to the other House (to the Lords, if it originated in the Commons; to the Commons, if it is a Lords bill), which may amend it.

belief: though some of the audience already believe what the speaker has in mind, their beliefs may not be fully conscious and psychologically active, or even conscious at all. If we beef up (G1), the requirement that the audience be intended to believe that P, to demand that S intends to produce activated belief in A, that may account (though not very naturally) for Examinee; it does better against some of the other cases. Grice's second revision is also to amend (G1), this time replacing it by the weaker provision that the audience be intended to believe only that the speaker believes that P. (Weakening (G1) in this way is compatible with hav- ing strengthened (G1) to require activated belief.) This second revision seems reasonable. As Grice says, it deals briskly with Examinee. And it is not implausible. To say something and mean it, we might hold, is merely to express a belief, usually but not always hoping or intending
