Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is one of the
most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. Vincent Willem van
Gogh was born on 30 March 1853 in southern Netherlands. At the age of 37 he
commited suicide after years of fighting with mental illness. He died on 27 July 1890.
The Almond Blossom is a oil painting done on a canvas. Large white blossom
branches like this against a blue sky were one of Van Gogh’s favourite subjects.
Almond trees flower early in the spring making them a symbol of new life.They
represented awakening and hope. He enjoyed them aesthetically and found joy in
painting flowering trees. The blossoms of the apricot, peach and plum trees
motivated him, and within a month he had created fourteen paintings of blossoming
fruit trees. Excited by the subject matter, van Gogh completed nearly one painting a
