Report: Canada

Geography: Covering most of the northern part of the North American continent and with an area larger than that of the United States, Canada has an extremely varied topography. In the east, the mountainous maritime provinces have an irregular coastline on the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic. The St. Lawrence plain, covering most of southern Quebec and Ontario, and the interior continental plain, covering southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan and most of Alberta, are the principal cultivable areas. They are separated by a forested plateau rising from Lakes Superior and Huron. Westward toward the Pacific, most of British Columbia, the Yukon, and part of western Alberta are covered by parallel mountain ranges, including the Rockies. The Pacific border of the coast range is ragged with fjords and channels. The highest point in Canada is Mount Logan (6,050 m), which is in the Yukon. The two principal river systems are the Mackenzie and the St. Lawrence

Daytime summer temperatures can rise to 35°C and higher, while lows of -25°C are not uncommon in winter. More moderate temperatures are the norm in spring and fall. Summers can be hot and dry on the prairies, humid in central Canada, and milder on the coasts. Spring is generally pleasant across the country. Autumns are often crisp and cool, but brightened by rich orange and red leaves on trees. Winters are generally cold with periods of snow, although southern Alberta enjoys the occasional "Chinook", a warm dry wind from the Rocky Mountains that gusts through and melts the snow. Winters are mild and wet on the west coast, in cities such as Vancouver and Victoria. Territories and provinces Canada consists of 3 territories and 10 provinces. Three famous canadians

The famous Canadians Jason Day (born May 19, 1981) is a Canadian mixed martial arts fighter born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and has fought for several MMA associations, including the Ultimate Fighting Championship, TKO Major League MMA, Rumble in the Cage, King of the Cage, and many others. He is also the former TKO Middleweight champion. He is one of the few practitioners of the Eddie Bravo "Rubber Guard" system in mixed martial arts, in which a fighter can avoid taking heavy damage when fighting from his back, by using his legs and arms to hold his opponent very close to him in order to stifle his attacks. This was demonstrated best in his fight against Alan Belcher in UFC 83. Day fought his second fight in the UFC on June 7, 2008 at UFC 85 in London. His opponent was Michael Bisping who defeated Day in the first round. Also on June 6, 2009 he showed another example of his training with Eddie Bravo when h...

Canada belongs to British Commonwealth of Nations. It rules itself in very much the way the United States. Its capital is Ottawa. The country is divided into provinces and territories. Both the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia are much bigger than the states of Texas. Furs, farms, forests and fisheries make up much of Canada's wealth. The country is also rich in minerals. Canada has copper, lead, silver, gold and other metals. The discovery of rich oil fields in Alberta in 1947 has made oil production one of Canada's leading industries. South of Newfoundland is one of the greatest fishing regions in the world. Much of Canada is covered with forests. A great deal of the wood from the forests in Quebec is used for making paper. Western forests produce much timber. The farms of eastern Canada are rather small. Potatoes are an important crop. Near the Great Lakes there are many orchards.

The term "Canadian Confederation" refers to this 1867 unification of the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec (formerly Canada East or Lower Canada), and Ontario (formerly Canada West or Upper Canada). The remaining British colonies and territories soon joined Confederation. By 1880 Canada included all of its present area except for Newfoundland and Labrador, which joined in 1949. (It should be noted that, although part of Canada, Alberta and Saskatchewan did not gain Provincial status until 1905.) In 1919, Canada became a member of the League of Nations and, in the Imperial Conference of 1926, Canada assumed full control of its own through the Balfour Declaration. In 1927, Canada appointed its first ambassador to a foreign country, the United States. Nafta ja raske nafta

Kiviõli I Keskkool NAFTA Referaat Koostaja: Elina Sergunina XI klass Kiviõli 2009 Nafta -on looduslik maakoores leiduv peamiselt vedelate süsivesinike segu. Enam- vähem tänapäevane nafta puutorn lasti käiku USA-s Pennsylvanias 1855. a. Koos nafta tootm...

Canada - history and provinces.

Columbia. It became a province in 1871. Its capital is Victoria and the biggest city is Vancouver. Name of British Columbia was chosen by Queen Elizabeth. The main industries are forestry, tourism (Vancouver Island, Stanley Park, skiing, golfing, hiking), mining (metal and coal mines) and fishing. The Prairie Provinces, that are located in the middle and south of Canada, consist of three provinces: Manitoba (capital Winnipeg), Alberta (capital Edmonton) and Saskatchewan (capital Regina). Agriculture is very important in that region. There are many farms where they grow wheat, barley and oats. The most important landmarks of the region are the Canadian Shield, Lake Winnipeg and the Rocky Mountains, but it mostly consists of plains. Central Canada consists of Quebec (capital Quebec City) and Ontario (capital Toronto). It's not situated in the middle of Canada, more to the east, but it's the main centre of industry and economy

19. sajandi keskpaiku tehti liberaalseid reforme, kaotati senjöörisüsteem, kehtestati maaostuseadus. Algas tööstuspööre. 1. VII 1867 sai Kanada dominiooni õigused. Moodustati konföderatsioon, kuhu kuulusid Ontario, Quebeci, New Brunswicki ja Nova Scotia provintsid. Aastal Harilikul ebatsuugal (Pseudotsuga menziesii) eristatakse kahte aktsepteeritud teisendit: roheline ebatsuuga ehk ranniku-ebatsuuga (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. menziesii) kasvab Vaikse ookeani rannikupiirkonnas, Kanada Briti Columbiast põhjas kuni California osariigini lõunas[6]; sinihall ebatsuuga (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. glauca) (Beissn.)

Valitsuse toetus põllumajandussektori suunas on 2011 – 12 aasta andmetel suurenenud 7,5 miljardit dollarit võrreldes 2010 – 11 aastaga.

Society and culture of english-speaking countries

21st century Scots Canadians celebrate their Scots origins and share their traditions with people from around the world. Scots culture is not a museum piece; it is a living thing that grows and thrives as it is touched by other cultures and other traditions. In 2006, in the Canadian Census, 4.7 million Canadians reported that they were of Scottish origin. Today, there are almost as many Scots Canadians as there are people in the whole of Scotland. 12. Which important minerals are found in Alberta? Canada is abundant in many mineral resources — mined in every province and territory — and a world leader in the production of potash, aluminum, nickel, salt, sulphur and uranium, among others. Today, Canada is the leading producer of potash and is estimated to rank in the top five global producers of aluminum, diamonds, cobalt, nickel, platinum, tungsten, uranium and sulphur Alberta is the country's largest producer of crude oil and gas products (especially natural gas) 13
