The Soviet power nationalised the banks and large enterprises and prepared to assume possession of the mainly Baltic German manor houses. As it neglected to give land to the peasants and ignored the pursuits of national self-determination, it failed to find support among most of the Estonian population. On 28 November 1917, the Land council proclaimed itself the highest power in Estonia until the convening of the Constituent Assembly. This act declared, for the first time, the Estonians' right to determine their own fate. The first step towards real statehood was thus taken. The Bolsheviks then forcefully dissolved the Land Council and the leading Estonian politicians were compelled to go underground. At the early-1918 Constituent Assembly election, organised by the Bolsheviks, two-thirds of the voters supported the parties who stood for national statehood. The result being clearly the...

Blandings Castle kokkuvõte

After they have returned to Blandings castle, Lord Emsworth meets with Aggie's father and finds out that he is a millionaire from America, has his own company, and wants to hire Freddie. Of course Lord Emsworth is rejoiced by this fact and agrees to give the young couple his blessing. A few days later is the pumpkin contest and, as you might guess, Lord Emsworth's pumpkin wins. 2) Lord Emsworth act for the best: The second story revolves mostly around Freddie's and Aggie's marriage trouble. Freddie arrives at Blandings Castle and is quite devastated. He tells Lord Emsworth the story how he and Aggie got into a fight. It was about a meeting he had had with a female publisher to publish a script he had written. They were having dinner and one of Aggie's friends saw them and later presented it to Aggie as if they were flirting. Aggie...

Education

Relaying my own experience is easy: I had a standard classroom approach, supplemented by inordinate reading. In only the briefest and least memorable instances did I receive any individual tutoring. Education is commonly thought of as the job of schools. Adults cry "educate our children!" Everyone has opinions about the best way to do the job. It is of urgent importance, and all the numerous factors are much studied, debated, and new (or old) ideas continually tested or retested. Some people say "it's as simple as . . . " and then name their pet peeve or passion. My view is not of an education specialist, but of one who loves sharing what I learn, and owes much to educators. Since I don't have an educational theory neatly worked-out, nor an outline of my perceptions, my intent is to addr...

Tower of London

Description At the centre of the Tower of London stands the White Tower. The White Tower is defended by a massive curtain wall, which has thirteen towers. The first curtain wall is defended by a second massive curtain wall, which has five towers. The tower is manned by the Yeomen Warders (known as Beefeaters), who act as tour guides, provide security, and are a tourist attraction in their own right. Every evening, the warders participate in the Ceremony of the Keys as the Tower is secured for the night. History The Tower of London was founded in 1078 by William the Conqueror. In the 12th century, King Richard the Lionheart enclosed the White Tower with a curtain wall and had a moat dug around it. The fortification was completed in 1280 by...

Exposing the Human Condition in Antigone

Exposing the Human Condition in Antigone Heroism entails several things; a selfless act, courage, or the accomplishments of bold and daring expeditions. A hero can also mean courage in the face of death. Others may view this type of hero as stupid, or a martyr. Every hero has faults and these faults along with heroic deeds make the man or woman; a hero, heroine. "Antigone" would be considered a hero in the sense of being a martyr. Because of her love for her family Antigone wanted to give her brother a proper burial, and even though he did evil deeds, she respected him...

There is no single or "correct" definition and the choice of a definition depends on the purpose for which it is to be used. The First nations are Indians, Metis and Inuits, but the term Indian is called inappropriate, so now they are called the Native peoples. There are also legal terms for them and it applies to a native person who is registered under the Indian Act and it means that they are entitled to free medical care, education and training. Some of them, whose ancestors signed treaties also receive a small amount of money. Metis are the people who are half indigenous and half other race, the came from the marriages between different races. They have good traditions and a dance called the jig. They live in communities in the rural areas. The Inuit, who don't want to be called Eskimos because of its meaning ,,meat-...

Oliver twist - kokkuvõte

Chapter 51: Everyone went to the town of Oliver's birth, and that night Mr. Brownlow explained, with Monks help the rest of the tale. After finding out he was ill, Oliver's father wrote a letter to Agnes that told her of his marriage. It also stated his intentions for the inheritance. If the child were a girl, the money would go to her unconditionally, and if it were a boy, it would receive it as long as it did not commit an illegal act. Monks and his mother burned the letter along with the will. After hearing about his daughter's shame, the military man changed his name and took the girls to Wales. Agnes however, fled her father and walked to London. The military man soon died leaving the other girl child to a poor family there. This child was Rose. Monks and his mother tried to find Agnes but only found Rose in the hands of sick paupers. They gave them a little money to keep the child safe, but soon Mrs. Maylie...

Fridrick douglass

After two years, he resigned from his ambassadorship because of disagreements with U.S. government policy. In 1872, he moved to Washington, D.C., after his house on South Avenue in Rochester, New York burned down -- arson was suspected. Also lost was a complete issue of The North Star. In 1868, Douglass supported the presidential campaign of Ulysses S. Grant. The Klan Act and the Enforcement Act were signed into law by President Grant. Grant used their provisions vigorously, suspending habeas corpus in South Carolina and sending troops there and into other states; under his leadership, over 5,000 arrests were made and the Ku Klux Klan was dealt a serious blow. Grant's vigor in disrupting the Klan made him unpopular among many whites, but Frederick Douglass praised him. An associate of Douglass wrote of Grant that African...

A Midsummer Nights Dream

The main themes: dreams and reality, love and magic. The setting: The play features three interlocking plots, connected by a celebration of the wedding of Duke Theseus of Athens and the Amazonian queen Hippolyta, and set simultaneously in the woodland, and in the realm of Fairyland, under the light of the moon. Climax :The play reaches its climax near the end of Act IV, after all of the lovers overcome their obstacles and leave for the temple to be united in marriage. Some of the characters: *Theseus: Kind and generous. He must enforce the law, but talks privately with Egeus and Demetrius to get them to relent. He appreciates the effort that goes into the play-within-a- play, and the sincerity of the ordinary people. He lets his imagination turn good people's sincere effort into a good performance. *Hippolyta: More literal-minded than Theseus...
