Flood
● A flood is an overflow of an expanse of water
that submerges land.
● Flooding usually happens by overflowing rivers
and lakes.
● Floods often cause damage to homes and
businesses if they are placed in natural flood
plains of rivers.
Major causes of floods
● Heavy rainfall
● Huge snow melting
● Tidal waves
● Something blocking the flow of rivers
Different types of floods
● Slow-Onset Floods – usually lasts the longest,
sometimes up to months.
● Rapid-Onset Floods – does not last so long, up
to 2 days only. Usually causes more damage
than slow-onset flood.
● Flash Floods – lasts up to few hours. Causes
the greatest damages to the society.
