The NHL was created in 1917 in Canada and
consisted of 5 teams.
The NHL came to America in around 1926.
There are six teams called the Original Six
because they were the six teams to stay in
the league the longest.
In 1970 the NHL had a total of 14 teams.
The NHL started to get really big by 19722000
they have added 15 teams across America.
Now the NHL holds 28 teams.
