attention, coding and rehearsal. This model is very simplistic and reflects the

Sperling conducted a classic experiment on how long sensory memory can hold
information. He flashed a matrix of 12 letters on a screen for 1/20 of a second and
asked to recall as many letters as the participants could (typically 3 to 5 letters). The
second condition was a tone, which signaled the participants to report a certain row of
