Tom Sawyer raamatu kokkuvõte Mark Twain lühikirjeldus

When they see Tom and Huck’s tools, they become suspicious that someone is sharing their hiding place and carry the gold off instead of reburying it. Huck begins to shadow Injun Joe every night, watching for an opportunity to nab the gold. Meanwhile, Tom goes on a picnic to McDougal’s Cave with Becky and their classmates. That same night, Huck sees Injun Joe and his partner making off with a box. He follows and overhears their plans to attack the Widow Douglas, a kind resident of St. Petersburg. By running to fetch help, Huck forestalls the violence and becomes an anonymous hero. Tom and Becky get lost in the cave, and their absence is not discovered until the following morning. The men of the town begin to search for them, but to no avail. Tom and Becky run out of food and candles and begin to weaken. The horror of the situation increases when Tom, looking for a way out of the cave, happens upon Injun Joe, who is using the cave as a hideout

Inimesele ohtlikud ämblikud

Inimesele ohtlikud ämblikud Ämblike mürgi bioloogiline tähtsus seisneb peamiselt saagi surmamises ning seetõttu on mürk toksiline eeskätt putukaile. Ämblikuliike, kelle mürk toimib tugevasti püsisoojastele loomadele, on vähe, kuid mõned neist on inimesele ja koduloomadele äärmiselt ohtlikud. Enamike surmavate ämblike mürgisus pole aga täpselt teada. Nende hulgas sisaldab Phormictopus'e mürginääre mürki, mille hulk on küllaldane 20 hiire surmamiseks. Teatakse, et busmanid Lõuna- Aafrikas kasutavad nooleotste mürgitamiseks selle perekonna ämblike mürki segatuna amarüllise sibula mahlaga. Kuigi tapikuliste hulka kuuluvad kõige suuremad (linnutapiklased, üle 10cm pikkused karvased ämblikud), ei ole paljud nendest inimesele mürgised. Surmavaks osutuvate tapiklaste liigid paiknevad peamiselt Lõuna-Ameerikas, Ida-Aafrikas ja mujal troopilisematel aladel. Pärisämbliklaste alamseltsi kuuluvatest keraämbliklastest on mürgine ämblik karakurt (Latr...

The child who breaks the egg takes it. The child with the most eggs at the end of the game is the winner. Non-religious customs of the Creoles can be illustrated by two activities: 1) lagniappe, which comes from the Spanish word la napa meaning a sweetening. Grocery stores in Louisiana give a small addition to one's purchase, such as candy or small cakes as a token of appreciation to a customer; and 2) chiavari, which is a kind of cerebration of the remarriage of a widow or widower. 5 Creole culture It has been handed down through the years that Creoles are both BLACK and FRENCH in heritage. Creoles are among a rich cultural heritage of people. For many centuries, the word Creole has had as many as 30 known definitions. It is a fact that the word Creole had its origin in Africa, citing the countries of Senegal and Mali

was completed about 1685 in the Dutch Baroque style. The family coat-of-arms on the pediment was added in 1817 by then owner Count Stenbock (Sweden origin Russian brigade leader and estate owner). It belonged to Prince Alexander Menshikov, the governor- general of Estonia in 1710-19. He was born in the family of a groom at the Russian Royal court, and at the age of 13 became a personal servant and later a close assistant to Czar Peter I. After Peter's death he helped the czar's widow, Catherine I, to the throne and became the actual ruler of Russia for a couple of years until he was defeated in the power struggle and banished into exile. 23 Lai Street The buildings at Lai 19-23 belong to the City Theatre. It has a couple of small halls as well as some rehearsal rooms, and is planning to build a large auditorium in the present courtyard. All together the theatre has eight stages on which it performs, both indoor and outdoor, including

"Anna Karenina" kokkuvõte

Dolly, Anna and Karenin, and Anna and Count Vronsky. Stiva's habits are described in detail. To avoid arguing with Dolly about an affair he had with another woman, Stiva tries to distract himself by plunging into his work. He reads a liberal newspaper and comes off as a bit of a rogue (Tolstoy himself was a conservative). Stiva follows the liberal tradition, which denounces religion and marriage as cheap institutions. When a widow drops by to ask Stiva's help with a petition she's submitting to the government, Stiva helps her--not because he actually cares about the woman or her cause, but because he wants her to think well of him. We find out about Stiva's history: he was lazy in school but nevertheless used his connections to achieve a distinguished government career. Stiva represents the worst aspects of the social world, since he hasn't earned his way through life. On his way out of the house, Stiva almost

Danegeld. *Canute/Cnut Canute the Great, also known as Cnut was a Viking king of England and Denmark, Norway, and parts of Sweden. He was a son of a Danish king and became famous with his invasion of England. The kingdom fell quickly and Canute was held to be king . He successed as a statesman, politically and militarily. Canute held a considerable overlordship across other areas of the British Isles too. He divided his new kingdom into four parts and married the kings widow Emma in order to help legitimize his reign. By carefully selecting his advisors he became very well placed to command loyalty from both the Danish and the English. *The Vikings of Normandy Viking raids on England started in the late 8th century. Over- wintering in camps and the control of extensive areas of land became characteristic of Viking activity in England. English resistance was uncoordinated and often ineffective. 'England' was

William Shakespeare - Hamlet

Our thoughts are ours, their ends none of our own: So think thou wilt no second husband wed; But die thy thoughts when thy first lord is dead. Player Queen Nor earth to me give food, nor heaven light! Sport and repose lock from me day and night! To desperation turn my trust and hope! An anchor's cheer in prison be my scope! Each opposite that blanks the face of joy Meet what I would have well and it destroy! Both here and hence pursue me lasting strife, If, once a widow, ever I be wife! HAMLET If she should break it now! Player King 'Tis deeply sworn. Sweet, leave me here awhile; My spirits grow dull, and fain I would beguile The tedious day with sleep. Sleeps Player Queen 102 Sleep rock thy brain, And never come mischance between us twain! Exit HAMLET Madam, how like you this play? QUEEN GERTRUDE The lady protests too much, methinks. HAMLET O, but she'll keep her word. KING CLAUDIUS

pears at the door of a likely victim. Everything about the con man's clothing speaks of propriety and respectability. The white shirt is starched; the wingtip shoes glow darkly. His suit is not trendy but classic: the lapels are three inches wide-no more, no less; the cloth is heavy and substantial, even in July; the tones are muted-busi- ness blue, business gray, business black. He explains to his intended victim-perhaps a widow he secretly followed home from the bank a day or two earlier-that he is a professional bank examiner who, in the course of auditing the books of her bank, has found some seeming ir- regularities. He thinks he has spotted the culprit, a bank officer who is regularly doctoring reports of transactions in certain accounts. He says that the widow's ac- count may be one of these, but he can't be sure until he has hard evidence; there- fore, he has come to ask for her cooperation

T h e femme fatale finds expression today in stories of cops and detectives betrayed by killer women, such as Sharon Stone's character in Basic Instinct or Kathleen Turner's in Body Heat. Black Widow and Single White Female are interesting variants in which a female hero confronts a deadly, Shapeshifting femme fatale. words often used in other connections, such as "Flood," "Smooth," "Sudden," "Supreme," "Fullforce," and "Fullspeed." Names of living people —Ministers or Commanders—should be avoided, e.g., "Bracken." 2. After all, the world is wide, and intelligent thought will readily supply an unlimited number of wel-sounding names which do not suggest the character of the operation or disparage it in any way and do not enable some widow or mother to say that her son was killed in an operation called "Bunnyhug" or "Ballyhoo." 3. Proper names are good in this field. The heroes of antiquity, figures from Greek and Roman mythology, the constellations and stars, famous racehorses, names of British and American war heroes, could be used, provided they fall within the rules above. There are no doubt many other themes that could be suggested. 4. Care should be taken in all this process
