America. More and more people arrived. Over a time settlers from many other countries joined the English in America the French, the Spaniards , the Dutch. Africans were first brought to Virginia in 1619. By 1770 there were thirteen British colonies in America who weren't pleased with their lives because they had to pay high taxes. In 1773, the 'Boston Tea Party' took place and it made the British mad, so in 1775 the War of Independence started. The Americans were led by George Washington who in 1788 became the country's first president. On the 4th of July, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was written and that day is now celebrated as the Day of Independence. had no direct experience of World War I and because he is Jewish. He holds on to the romantic prewar ideals of love and fair play, yet, against the backdrop of the devastating legacy of World War I, these values seem tragically absurd. As a Jew and a nonveteran, Cohn is a convenient target for the cruel and petty antagonism of Jake and his friends. Read an in-depth analysis of Robert Cohn. Bill Gorton - Like Jake, a heavy-drinking war veteran, though not an expatriate. Bill uses humor to deal with the emotional and psychological fallout of World War I. He and Jake, as American veterans, share a strong bond, and their friendship is one of the few genuine emotional connections in the novel. However, Bill is not immune to the petty cruelty that characterizes Jake and Jake's circle of friends. Mike Campbell - A constantly drunk, bankrupt Scottish war veteran. Links between Estonia and English speaking countries

4000 years, Meri (1976). 4 First links Although written evidence of regular links between Estonia and England date back only into the beginning of the 20 th century, it is clear that there have been links also earlier. These contacts might be very old. During Hanseatic times the trade on the Baltic Sea was quite active. The links might be even older. Historians have claimed that already during the second Punic war in 218 BC a northern nation called Esths controlled the north south trade of furs. It is most likely that some furs also reached the area of present day England. Even more likely contacts between Estonia and England date back to the beginning of the second millennium AD. It has been widely acknowledged, that Estonians and Danes often combined forces when attacking larger targets. This would mean that Estonians have made frequent and regular raids to the shores of England.

They are mainly descended from Franks, Frisians, and Saxons. Most residents of Friesland Province are Frisian, a distinct cultural group with its own language. Fearing overpopulation, the government encouraged Dutch emigration after World War II (1939-1945), and some 500,000 people left. But an even larger number of people entered the Netherlands--Europeans and Asians from the former Netherlands Indies dependency (now part of Indonesia); industrial workers from Turkey, Morocco, and other Mediterranean countries; and, more recently, residents of Suriname, also a former Dutch dependency and the Netherlands Antilles. Consequently, the country's population, particularly in the large cities, now includes several ethnic minorities. (3) 1

Democracy in the US

Independence, primarily written by Thomas Jefferson, a farmer and lawyer from Virginia. This document declared that from that time the United Colonies were no longer colonies of England, but free and independent states named the United States of America. Moreover, the Declaration of Independence set forth some of the principled of American democracy. With help from France, the American armies, led by George Washington, a gentleman farmer from Virginia, won the War of Independence . The peace treaty was signed in 1783. During the war, the states had agreed to work together by sending representatives to a national congress. The agreement that set up this plan of cooperation was called the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation failed because the states did not cooperate with the Congress or with each other. The Congress had been given no authority to force any state to do anything

British kings and queens

King William I, otherwise known as William the Conqueror was born in France on 1028. He became friendly with the current English King, Edward the Confessor. He invaded and attacked England on Edward's death, as he was promised the English crown, but then denied it by the Saxon Harold. King George VI King George VI did not expect to become king, he was the shy brother of Edward VIII who only took the thrown when Edward abdicated. King George VI ruled during World War two and bravely refused to leave London during the blitz. The two princesses; Elizabeth and Margaret, spent the war years in Windsor Castle away from harm. King Henry VI King Henry VI still holds the record for being the youngest king of England, it is unlikely that the record will be broken any time soon. He came to the thrown at just 9 months old. For the first 20 years of his life England and France were ruled by his uncles and advisors. King Stephen

The Middle Ages

Henry I was the first unquestioned ruler. One of the most important kings in the Middle Ages. He had lands in Britain & France. Then the government was the monarch, a person, not a place. He had more land than any pervious king. After his marriage to Eleanor of Aquitaine, he also ruled the lands south of Anjou. His empire stretched from the Scottish border to the Pyrenees. England provided most of its wealth, but the heart was Anjou. Henry II began to regain royal control. During the war some barons had become very powerful. He pulled down some of their castles. He tried to restore law & order. He wanted the same kind of justice to be used everywhere. He appointed his own judges to travel around the country. They dealt with crimes & disagreements over poverty. Serious offences were tried in the king's court. At first they had no special knowledge or training. They were trusted to use common sense. By the end of the 12th cent. They had real

It might be difficult to understand the point of the story. To understand it, it is important to read the story carefully and notice everything and every word the characters say. It seems like the stories are unfinished you are reading and then you notice that the text is at an end but you can't understand what was the meaning of this story. All the stories took place in Europe at the beginning of the 20 th century and they are connected with the World War I and the World War II. Even if it is not said, you can guess it. The stories may be same effective in any other place and time. These people had problems and difficulties in their lives in these stories and people have problems nowadays too. So it does not matter if the story takes place today or many years ago- it can be same effective. Even it does not matter where the story takes place the story could be same effective in Tallinn, Berlin or Madrid.

lived on the southeastern shores of the Baltic Sea over 5,000 years ago. Like other early agricultural societies, Estonians were organized into economically self-sufficient, male-dominated clans with few differences in wealth or social power. By the early Middle Ages most Estonians were small landholders, with farmsteads primarily organized by village. With the collapse of the Russian empire in World War I, Russia's provisional government granted national autonomy to Estonia. A popularly elected assembly (Maapaev) was formed but was quickly forced underground by opposing extremist political forces. The Committee of Elders of the underground Maapaev announced the Republic of Estonia on February 24, 1918, 1 day before German troops invaded. After the withdrawal of German troops in November 1918, fighting broke out between Bolshevik and Estonian troops. On February 2, 1920, the Treaty of Tartu was

that we don`t all agree with everything, but a certain level of acceptance and understanding must be reachable with words. Luckily, there are more and more international peace organizations that help acheive and maintain peace. They are doing everything that they can to keep the world from destroying itself. In Conclusion, there have been thousands of battles and wars all over the world. Whether the reason is land, religion or any other disagreement, the course of the war is still the same - the land gets ravaged and people get injured or even die. War brings absolutely no good. That is why it is so important for everyone to keep peace.

Mõiste Külm Sõda võeti kasutusele esimesena USA riigiteadlase B.Baruh-i poolt. Külma sõja algusajaks peetakse märtsi 1946, kui Winston Churchill pidas ...

Summary

Pakistani ground operations however, are not as precise and safe as using drones. (Fair, 2013) The use of drones brings back to the subject of intent and “kill lists”. Therefrom, people are questioning its morality. Naturally, it is vital to put a lot of effort in identifying the civilians from the combatants and protecting them. This is the moral responsibility that needs to be taken into account when targeting extremists. (Beautmont, 2012) Using drones when fighting a war is proven to be strategically beneficial and more humane than its alternatives. However, when analysing their usefulness in war, we also need to take into account the long-term implications of widespread psychological warfare. (Owen, 2013) To summarise, using drones may not be desirable, as well as any other way of killing. Still, I think it is the best option at the tribal areas. (527 words) Bibliography

banks of the Gulf of Finland, in north-western Estonia. Tallinn is the location of many institutions of higher education and science. As an important port for trade between Russia and Scandinavia, it became a target for the expansion of the Teutonic Knights and the Kingdom of Denmark. Historically, the city has been attacked, sacked, razed and pillaged on numerous occasions. Although extensively bombed by Soviet airforces during the latter stages of World War II, much of the medieval Old Town still retains its charm. Since independence, improving air and sea transport links with Western Europe and Estonia's accession to the European Union have made Tallinn easily accessible to tourists. SIGHTSEEING The main attractions are in the two old towns, Lower Town and Toompea, which are both easily explored on foot. Roger Federer

story, "The Final Problem". Public outcry led him to bring the character back; Conan Doyle returned to the story in "The Adventure of the Empty House", with the explanation that only Moriarty had fallen but, since Holmes had other dangerous enemies, he had arranged to be temporarily "dead" also. Holmes ultimately appears in a total of 56 short stories and four Conan Doyle novels (he has since appeared in many novels and stories by other authors). Following the Boer War in South Africa at the turn of the 20th century and the condemnation from around the world over the United Kingdom's conduct, Conan Doyle wrote a short pamphlet titled, The War in South Africa: Its Cause and Conduct, which justified the UK's role in the Boer war, and was widely translated. Conan Doyle believed that it was this pamphlet that resulted in 1902 in his being knighted and appointed Deputy-Lieutenant of Surrey. He also in 1900 wrote the longer book, The Great Boer War

Ühiskonnagrupid esimeses maailmasõjas

I variant (üksi tehes): Vali kolm ühiskonnagruppi ja kirjelda nende olukorda I maailmasõjast tingimustes: 1. Mis probleemidega kokku puutusid? 2. Mis neid põhjustas? 3. Kuidas püüti neid lahendada või mis muutus sõja tulemusel? Vali üks riik. Too välja motiivid, mida riik soovis sõjaga saavutada; rinded, kus võideldi ja tähtsamad lahingud koos tulemusega. Anna ülevaade ka siseriiklikust olukorrast sõja ajal. Paaristöö puhul valige viis ühiskonnaklassi ja kaks riiki (üks Antandi hulgast ja teine Keskriikide poolelt). Lisa juurde allikad, mida kasutasid. NAISED Naised moodustasid märkimisväärse osa tööstuslikust tööjõust juba enne esimest maailmasõda, ehkki nad olid peamiselt keskendunud tekstiilitööstusele. Sõja ajal värvati aga suur hulk naisi töökohtadele, mille jätsid vabaks sõjas võitlema läinud mehed. Uued töökohad loodi ka sõjategevuse raames, näiteks laskemoonavabrikutes. Ehkki naiste palkamine nn meestetööks oli esial...
