Kafka's Hunger Artist

The conflict between the audience and the artist adds to the artist's dissatisfaction with his nourishment. The audience viewing the artist feeds upon the belief the artist is cheating. They continually view the artist only wishing to find him cheating. They express conceit at being confident he is cheating yet no one is ever able to find any form of proof. The butchers desire to know the artist is cheating and ignore him to comfort their suspicions. These internal assurances of the public which pleasure them so also bother them because of the failure to confirm these suspicions. Yet, if the suspicions were to be confirmed, the audience would not be satisfied, and, in fact, feel cheated and frustrated. Humans' conflicting desires is further shown through the viewing public when the artist is exhibited at the circus. As people file past the hunger artist, they only wish to view him when they cannot and when they can, they do not view him

and ,,Hills like white elephants". I am going to analyse three stories of this book - ,,A canary for one, ,,Cat in the rain" and ,,Hills like white elephants" The title is one of the most important part of the story. It is something that attracts you to read the story or the book. If the title is boring you do not want to read the book, but when it is mystical and ambiguous you just want to know what is the story about. All the titles of these three stories were methaphores and connected with animals. It is hard to guess what is the story about just looking at the title it does not sum the main events. Even if the titles were connected with animals the main characters were still humans. The meaning of the title chance a lot after reading the story. At first it may be difficult to understand how the title is connected with the story. Later you can see that it was perfect title to the story.

Satire in Lilliput

his life. Swift's urination scene parody's his own life giving him a satire within a satire. By pointing this out in the story, he mocks his critics. Swift further illustrates satire by comparing English government to Lilliput. In the early eighteenth century, the English government was under the Whig's political party. Swift represented himself as Gulliver as being a Tory, and the Lilliputians as being powerhungry Whigs. Their heels of their shoes identified these parties. In Lilliput the HighHeels represented the Tories and the LowHeels represented the Whigs. George I favoured the Whigs, so the Lilliputian emperor favoured the Low Heals. But the Prince of Whales favoured both parties, and thus the Lilliputian heir to the throne wore one HighHeel and one Low. When Gulliver started learning about the Lilliputians government he noticed that their government officials were chosen by rope dancing. To Gulliver and the reader these

and not having any water at all, not around you, not anywhere. People who live there they have to make long journeys or treks over rough and barren land to get water and when they finally reach to that hole in the ground, then that water there isn’t even clean. It takes so much time and energy, just to get a glass water or in the Africans case, a filled 90’s plastic bottle filled with soggy liquid, that does not deserve the title “water”. In these countries people dream about water, children dream about water, it should not be child’s dream, to get just enough water so that her throat wouldn’t dry. More than a 780 million people (that is 10,9% of the world’s population) do not have access to clean drinking water and estimated 400 million of these are children. Every day people are trying to survive and hoping to see tomorrow, hoping that they wouldn’t die in dehydration. Because of the fast growing

How to Stop Water Pollution

As oil moves throughout the crank case of an engine, it breaks down into many different types of carcinogenic and even mutagenic compounds. When a leaky engine releases this oil into the street, it runs to the sewer and from there it becomes part of a laundry-list of contaminants that makes its way into waterways. Even a small drip of oil can turn into a disaster when you consider the fact that there are more than 250 million cars on the road in the United States alone. Even if all of these vehicles were in perfect working order, the disposal of the used oil would still be a huge issue. Clean Up Beaches and Waterways Wherever you have waterways that see a lot of human recreation, you will almost always see lots of evidence of human use. Wrappers, bottles and other trash are unfortunately a common site at many well-used beaches and rivers around the world. It should be fairly obvious that the trash from these places often ends up in waterways and can cause pollution

Indigenous people in australia

Australia, Tasmania, and some of the other adjacent islands. There is a great diversity among different Indigenous communities and societies in Australia, each with its own unique mixture of cultures, customs and languages. In present day Australia these groups are further divided into local communities. [infoplease] Language Before Europeans arrived in Australia, about 250 diverse Indigenous languages were spoken. Some of these are still spoken today but many have died out. In 2006, 55 695 or 11 per cent of Indigenous people spoke an Indigenous language at home. Indigenous languages were more likely to be spoken in the centre and north of Australia than in the southern cities. In the Northern Territory, for example, 54 per cent of Indigenous people spoke an Indigenous language at home. Spirituality Most Indigenous belief systems centre on the `Dreaming' or `Dreamtime' to explain life and the origin of the world

Positive sides of outdoor learning

While there are many definitions for outdoor education, I think the best way to describe it would be outdoor education is a form of education, when learning takes place somewhere else than a classroom and the subjects are not only about the environment and nature but also linked to the national curriculum. Outdoor education often takes place on a walk around the block, a visit to the cemetery or a local post office. It can happen at a city zoo, on a forest trail, or in a national park. These kinds of locations are conducive to first- hand experiences and these places can provide direct contact with the topic and also learning this way can help participants interact and socialize. Outdoor learning can contribute towards getting deeper knowledge and understanding, better health and choices in lifestyle, valuing friendship and teamwork and also creating an environmentally responsible society. Students get deeper knowledge and they understand subjects better when they learn

Should advertisements promoting alcohol be banned?

promoting alcohol. Firstly, seeing, for example, a cold bottle of beer with water drops on it on TV is very tempting. It looks so beautiful and fresh and that makes you think that you have to buy it. Usually people do not think that it looks good only on TV and those drinks are harmful for health. Furthermore, advertisements promoting alcohol show that drinking alcohol makes people cooler and parties better. In these advertisements all the people are smiling, nobody is angry and everybody feels at ease. But in real life these parties are not so good, some people, who are really drunk, start to fight with other ones. Also, it is not unusual for some people to end their party in hospital. On the other hand, there are lots of people who drink alcoholic drinks only when they are eating. They do not want to get drunk and they drink in small amounts. In this

What do scientists think about yetis?

The Yeti or Abominable Snowman is a ape-like mythological creature. Even though there is little evidence that the Yeti exists, it has been speculated by some scientists that these creatures could be called as Gigantopithecus. Over numerous conferences, the result that scientists gave was that Yeti actually exists. One of the evidences made scientist believe was the film of female yeti that was taken in California 30 years ago. Other evidences are reports of hikers seeing yeti in the mountains and also their footprints. The reason why report was so strongly supported and believable was because scientists noticed that no one would go up Himalayas and make a lie. One

Global warming and natural disasters

The disasters are getting more serious and they are mostly caused by global warming which people can affect. What should be done to make the situation better? Nowadays people have put material things above the beauty and survival of the Earth. Money and power are more important than, for example, the wonder of cool, fresh and clean spring water. The water has been polluted and the trees cut down, also the air is polluted with gasses. All of these things are dangerous for animals as they live in the forests. People do not care about the nature and they are not aware of the risks. Although these figures are depressing, things have improved recently. Scientists are aware that the Earth is getting warmer and they are trying to make things better, also more information is given out so that people can be ready for serious disasters. One good thing is that developed countries are willing to help countries that survive earthquakes, floods and

Tourism

Tourism is one of the most developing kind of services in the world. However, it brings us not only benefits, but also dangers. I would like to discuss the problem in the following composition. Tourism can be very profitable. Especially when the country or an area is attractive and good weather is guaranteed. The most popular places to which people come are mountains, sea or lakes. The advantage of tourism is the mutual cooperation of the tourists and people who are working in this branch. These first can spend their time relaxing themselves. These second earn money. It's said that travel broadens the mind. I think it's true because we can meet another people and visit various places all over the world. We can find out more about foreign cultures and traditions or languages. In this sense traveling can be an instructive experience. On the other hand, tourism can be really destructive for the environment. Nowadays people want to be

Cleopatra's needle

Originally built as a pair for the Temple of the Sun at Heliopolis It was dug out of the sand in which it had been buried for nearly 2,000 years and was encased in a great iron cylinder, 92 feet (28 m) long and 16 feet (4.9 m) in diameter, designed by the engineer John Dixon. Cleopatra's Needle is flanked by two Egyptian sphinxes cast from bronze that bear hieroglyphic inscriptions that say netjer nefer menkheperre di ankh (the good god, Thuthmosis III given life). These Sphinxes appear to be looking at the Needle rather than guarding it. This is due to the Sphinxes' improper or backwards installation. The setting is neatly completed by two large bronze Sphinxes which lie on either side of the Needle. These are a very Victorian version of the traditional Egyptian original, but still look impressive. I think, that Cleopatra's needle has a big importance in Egypt history. And it is good to have such a great monument in England

Essay - The best things in life are free

The best things in life are free There is a saying that the best things in life are free. It's certainly true that money can't buy you happiness, but can you truly be happy if you don't have any money at all? On one hand, things like food, clothes and having a decent home to live in are quite essential to living a happy and normal life. These are basic needs that humans have, but none of those are free and they all cost money. But, for all that money is useful and good to have around, for all that it can buy, there are quite a few things that it can't buy. Money can't buy you thing like friends and family, love, health, knowledge and intelligence, and the list could go on and on. At the end of the day, these are the things that matter the most and this goes to show that the best things in life are really free.

Ethnographic interviews with lifestyle travellers in India and Thailand offer an emic account of the practices, ideologies and social identity that characterise lifestyle travel as a distinctive subtype within backpacking. Departing from the drifter construct, which (re)constitutes this identity as socially deviant, the concept of lifestyle allows for a contemporary appraisal of these individuals’ patterns of meaningful consumption and wider insights into how ongoing mobility can lead to different ways of understanding identities and relating to place. Keywords: lifestyle consumption; backpacker; mobility; drifter; identity INTRODUCTION Within the social world of backpacking, there exist a small proportion of tourists who travel as a lifestyle for years on end. Protecting endangered species will make a difference in humans life

However, nowadays hunting endangered species will make humans be just killers, because it is not necessary to kill something just to have a trophy on the wall at home. People can be proud of what they have done, but decreasing the population of a species largely will cause the specific animal breed to go extinct faster than it would happen via natural causes. Therefore, humans should stop hunting endangered species to slow down their extinction, as these species offer balance in the wildlife, are used without purpose in medicine, and may even reduce poverty. Species on the brink of extinction affect us more than we realize. Sure, pandas are cute, and rhinos are fun to look at, but is there anything more to that? All animals and plants form a very important part of our ecosystem that also includes our lands and waters. Remove one part from the environment and damage will be done. For example, after the last wolves were killed in

Celtic Mythology / Keldi Mütoloogia

was not politically unified nor was there any substantial central source of cultural influence or homogeneity; as a result, there was a great deal of variation in local practices of Celtic religion (although certain motifs, for example the god Lugh, appear to have diffused throughout the Celtic world). Inscriptions to more than three hundred deities, often equated with their Roman counterparts, have survived, but of these most appear to have been genii locorum, local or tribal gods, and few were widely worshipped. However, from what has survived of Celtic mythology, it is possible to discern commonalities which hint at a more unified pantheon than is often given credit. The nature and functions of these ancient gods can be deduced from their names, the location of their inscriptions, their iconography, the Roman gods they are equated with, and similar figures from later bodies of Celtic mythology.

Wonders of the Modern World

Since Neil Armstrong stepped out of his space capsule onto the surface of the moon in 1969, there have been many space probes to several different planets and even to the sun. So far, there has not been found any intelligent life in the universe, but who knows what the future holds. International travel is also something that has changed the modern world. People can now easily travel from one end of the world to another, in quite a short time too. It is estimated that, at any one time these days, there are as many people travelling in aero planes as the total number of people who travelled abroad in the whole of the nineteenth century. There are many different wonders in modern world, but in my opinion, these make up the Top three for me. It's just that I couldn't imagine the modern world without them.

exhausting. Many parents have lost their jobs because of the virus. And still there are people who won’t listen to the government rules and spread the virus further. Secondly, global warming is increasing at an alarming rate with the progress in technology. In recent years, industrialization and extensive use of automobiles have been observed, and these developments have significantly raised the levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Moreover, these gases like carbon dioxide and methane trap the sunlight and elevate the temperature of the earth. This change in temperature is not only responsible for global warming but also other associated problems of climate change and air pollution. In conclusion, to ensure positive contributions and to minimize risks to the planet, relying on govenment alone will not lead to the desired results. Each person's effort can effectively help protect the environment.

Transmission and differential

Transmission and differential Rene Põlluvee and Kaupo Kormik 43AT 2015 Transmission ● The transmission is a mechanical component designed to transmit power from a vehicle’s engine to the drive axle, which makes the wheels drive the vehicle. Some vehicles use a clutch to connect and disconnect the transmission to the engine, controlled through a foot pedal next to the brake pedal. These vehicles have a manual transmission. If your car doesn’t have a clutch pedal, it has an automatic transmission.Automatic transmissions depend on a special fluid called ATF to cool and lubricate the moving parts inside. But the fluid does more than that: In fact, it’s no exaggeration to say that the fluid actually drives the vehicle. So there’s little doubt that the fluid is very important to the transmission’s operation. This is why it’s important to

Permitting machines to take human life in warfare or in law enforcement and other circumstances raises a host of serious ethical, legal, moral, societal and other concerns. However, it is undisputed that any autonomous weapon system must be capable of being used, and must be used, in accordance with IHL. There are some verified ways to collect money, such as a street collection, house-to-house collection and jumble sales. A large amount of money was raised by the house-to house collection. It`s about a 40% of the whole money we got for these children. Also income from the street collection is really nice as well 30%. So, a 20% of the pie chart I made takes the jumble sale and 10% - other ways of collecting money. Overview This year it was decided to organise a fund-raising day for the charity. the life of wild animals. Firstly, there is a serious habitat problem because, after pollution or destruction, habitats take many years (sometimes hundreds or even thousands) to grow again. Pollution and destruction change the balance of nature. Each species in a habitat (for example, wood, jungle, marsh or forest) needs and helps the rest. As a result, forests are been cutting down. And what has taken the place of these green, natural places? Houses, farms, cities, streets, roads and factories. Because of this (and pollution, too) several species are dying all over the world. In addition , if one animal, bird or insect disappears, all the others suffer too. And all living beings belong to the circle of life. And when one link is missing, the circle of life can´t function normally. A further problem is hunting. Man has always been a hunter. He still is. But many modern hunters

in United Kingdom is Theresa May and in Estonia Taavi Rõivas. The second similarity is the election to the parliament in both countries you have to be at least 21 years old and there are some other criterias to match like mental health and imprisonment. And in both countries you have to be at least 18 years old to vote. When you think about it like that there is not too much in common, but at least these two systems have the same mission to handle to keep these two totally different countries operative. And thats it.

Virtual friendship

Virtual friendship Virtual world undoubtedly makes our lives easier and makes it easier for us to get more friends, but are those real friends? Although virtual world gives us a chance to make more friends, there is considerable disagreement over whether these new friends are real or not. The main argument for the virtual world being superficial is that nowadays people rather tend to stay in front of their screens and just talk than go out and have a good time eye to eye. Therefore people might not have any idea who they are talking to or what these people really think of them. What is more, people often spend more time with their virtual friends chatting rather than dedicating time to the people that truly care about them. A final key argument

Poem

Blue you sit so pretty Standing in line West of the one To see the show tonight Sparkles light with yellow icing And there's a light on Just a mirror for the sun Heavy glow Just a mirror for the sun By the way I tried to say Just a mirror for the sun I'd be there... waiting for Dani the girl is singing songs to me These Smiling eyes are just a mirror for Beneath the marquee... of her soul So much as come before those battles lost By the way I tried to say and I'd be there... waiting for won This life is shining more forever in the sun Now let us check our heads Chant And let us check the surf

Giving opinion

Clearly, a coeducational environment promotes understanding between boys and girls. It's far more natural. So in what ways are they superior? .. Well, obviously in size. Everything's bigger. People have always liked dressing up. People just won't continue to accept editorial lines... which don't match up with their experience. Without doubt, television has a lot to answer for. There's no doubt that these large monopolies have a great deal of power. If we let them finance important developments such as digital television, you can be sure that they'll market technical devices which can only receive their own TV broadcasts. Well, there's no doubt that a proper understanding of their problems is needed before we can go much further. Surely, there are immediate things like food aid to countries hit by drought or famine

The present continuous

The present continuous We use the present continuous to talk about: 1. Something which is happening at the moment of speaking. I'm reading the Grammar referance page. 2. Something which is happening around now but not necessarily at the moment of speaking. I'm reading a lot of detective novels these days. 3. A changing situation. Computers are getting faster and faster. 4. Something which happens often and annoys us. My boss is always asking me to stay late. The present simple We use the present simple to talk about: 1. A routine or a habit. Jim always sets the alarm for 7.30. 2. Facts which stay the same for a long time. I have a friend who lives in London. She works in a museum. 3. Something which is always true.

Hübriidauto - Hybrid car

· The answer doesn't lay completely in purchasing and using a hybrid car. They do make a statement by being compact and fuel efficient, but also carry various issues. Why to purc has e a hybrid c ar? 1. Made of lightweight materials hybrids are small in size. The engine is designed to be fuel efficient. When the car halts at a signal, the engine will automatically shut down and restart when the car shifts into gear. 2. Wooden pallets

SLAID 1 I am going to talk about wooden pallets. After I am finished I will answer any question you might have about my presentation. SLAID 2 Lets start with history. Wooden pallets date back to 1000 B.C. Egiptians used sheets of wood for transport and storage. These wooden sheets are called skids or sleads. They are still in use but their shape and durability has changed a lot. It was the during the early 1920’s, shortly after the modern forklift was invented, when skids evolved into pallets, revolutionizing the way merchandise was stored and transported. The new design of pallets allowed goods to be moved, stored and stacked with extraordinary speed and versatility. During the WWII the allied countries established a

Overfishing

Overfishing is a non-sustainable use of the oceans. WHAT IS CAUSING OVERFISHING?: Worldwide, fishing fleets are two to three times as large as needed to take present day catches of fish and other marine species (spiišis) and as what our oceans can sustainably support. On a global scale we have enough fishing capacity (cäpaseti) to cover at least four Earth like planets. On top of the overcapacity many fishing methods (methouds) are unsustainable in their own way. These methods have a large impact on the basic functioning of our marine ecosystems (ikousistem). These unselective fishing practices and gear cause tremendous destruction on non target (taaged) species. Bycatch and discards and bottom trawling destruction are two examples of this. WHY IS OVERFISHING A PROBLEM?: To explain why overfishing is a problem we first have to get an idea on the scale of the problem. This is best done by looking at repord published by the Food and

BABA IS YOU

BABA IS YOU Game REVIEW Baba is You, developed by Hempuli Oy, is a sokoban-pushing puzzle game with a twist of rules manipulation. In this 2D game, the internal rules are presented as pushable blocks and you main goal is to push these blocks around and then combine these words to form new rules to solve puzzles. Unlike other puzzle games that require you to follow rules to complete levels, Baba is You encourages you to break rules and also gives you enough freedom to create new rules to level up. I know, the idea sounds really interesting and smart! The game doesn’t have too many instructions and it only has characters and corresponding objects on each stage. Players may be confused about how to

H. G. Wells

produced. The story appeared in various forms in magazines from 1888 to 1894 and was released in its current form in 1895. The book was successful, and Wells did not need to teach or worry about money from that time on. Wells' early novels continued in the science fiction mode of The Time Machine. The Island of Dr. Moreau (1896), The Invisible Man (1897) and The War Between the Worlds (1898) cemented his position within the genre. For many readers, these early novels are the extent of Wells' writing. He's the "time machine guy" or the "martian guy." Wells, however, wrote short stories, mainstream fiction and non-fiction essays his entire life, most of them espousing in some form or another his views on humanity, society and the direction he saw the world going. Some of these works were also science fictional in nature.

My favorite book

son. It is very tragic, but it is the truth. In the middle of the book Alan has to go to the hospital, where he is surrounded by adult men. They admired Alan`s strength and courage to fight for his life. Alan always had the view that life does not suspend him nothing, even with his disease he can make his dreams come true. He also on the principle that men do not ever cry, because he love challenges and he wanted to cut trough these. Alan`s family was very supportive and they were always there for him. I think that the high spot of the book is when Alan learns how to ride, because it was told to be impossible for him to do that, but Alan had big strength of will and he achieved what he wanted and he was really proud of himself. After reading this book I was a little bit confused. Different emotions and toughts were all over me. First of all, I think that people don`t deserve these kind of diseases and secondly I

Recommendation report about Haapsalu

services for instance therapeutic mud procedures. I have heard that therapeutic mud procedures is very beneficial for one’s health, because it cures chronic inflammatory diseases and relives pain. In addition, the mud therapy treatment gives a nice relaxed and mellow feeling. It is worth trying because the service is offered at a very few places. Unfortunately, this service has very long queues and it may cost too much for some. Conclusion/Recommendations Considering all of these aspects, I would recommend visiting museums and the Old Town. These may not seem very interesting, but I promise that it is a lot of fun, and there are many other things to visit besides the museum.
