An Invention

Prior to the development of mobile phones, people used two-way radios to communicate while they were mobile. The idea behind two-way radios gave rise to the invention of mobile phones. During the 1940s, Motorola came up with the Walkie-Talkie followed by handheld two-way radios that operated on battery power. In 1947, Douglas Ring and W. Rae Young at Bell Labs introduced the idea of hexagonal cells for mobile phones. Ericsson came up with an automatic mobile phone system, which was released in Sweden in 1956. The drawback of this system was that the phones weighed 40 kg´s. Till 1970, mobile phones had to remain within their cell area and there were no means to continue communication while switching between cell areas. The call handoff system that allows users to move through different cell areas came up only in 1970. Mobile phones are nowadays almost in every people hands. They are irreplaceable communication device. Thanks for your attention.

English in my Life

English in my life People in Estonia basically use two languages. The main language and also our mother tongue is Estonian. Also Russian is a commonly spoken language because almost one-third of the population in Estonia is formed by Russians. Besides those two languages many Estonians are quite good at English. We are visited by many tourists from Finland, Sweden, Latvia and many other countries. Tourists from the Scandinavian countries and from other places of Europe don't speak in Estonian. So it is quite important for us to speak itEnglish an international language. It also goes the other way around when we go traveling somewhere in Europe or even further - then we mainly use English to communicate with people. Over the last 10 years the use of English has grown a lot in Estonia. We have many new TV channels in English

Rootsi rahvastiku iseloomustus

RIIGI RAHVASTIKU ISELOOMUSTUS 1. RIIGI RAHVAARV Rootsis elab 9 088 728 inimest (1) (2011) . Minu arvates on see suhteliselt väike riik , arvestades , et on mitmekümneid kordi suurema rahvaarvuga riike . Kuid Eesti mõistes on see keskmine riik . Negatiivseks muutub kasvutempo eeldatavalt 2030 ndal aastal . Siis hakkab rahvaarv vähenema . Langev trend kestab umbes 2040 nda aastani ning siis hakkab taas samas tempos rahvaarv kasv...

Betti. Dear Kate, I think that travelling is the best way to broaden you mind and to explore the world. I haven't travelled a lot recently. The last place I visited was Finland, which was in August 2008. Most of the trips I've taken were when I was too young to remember them. For instance I went to a European trip with my family when I was four years old. We visited such countries as Sweden, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Austria, Lithuania, Latvia and some more countries. I would really love to visit USA, England and Japan. Something is just magical about those places. I know that when you live somewhere, you don't really see what's special about it. I bet you know a lot more about London than I do but you probably don't find it as special and beautiful as I do. I love to observe the architecture and the people who live in the country I visit.

The climate in Estonia

The climate in Estonia As in other northern countries, seasons varie widely in Estonia. The length of the longest day in summer is over 19 hours, while the shortest winter day lasts only 6 hours. It is not completely dark at night from the beginning of May until the end of July. Estonia, on the coast of the Baltic Sea, is at the same latitude in Europe as central Sweden and the northern tip of Scotland. In North America, the middle latitude of Estonia passes through the Labrador peninsula and southern coast of Alaska. However, due to the influence of the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf Stream, the weather in Estonia is considerably milder than the continental climate characteristic of the same latitude. The temperature in the summer months (June September) is typically 15ºC...18ºC and in winter 4ºC...5ºC. Estonian weather offers many surprises

Estonian culture

estonian culture The culture of Estonia incorporates indigenous heritage, as represented by the country's rare Finno-Ugric national language Estonian, with mainstream Nordic and European cultural aspects. Due to its history and geography, Estonia's culture has been influenced by the traditions of the adjacent area's various Finnic, Baltic, Slavic and Germanic peoples as well as the cultural developments in the former dominant powers Sweden and Russia. Traditionally, Estonia has been seen as an area of rivalry between western and eastern Europe on many levels. An example of this geopolitical legacy is an exceptional combination of nationally recognized Christian traditions: a western Protestant and an eastern Orthodox Church. Like the mainstream culture in the other Nordic countries, Estonian culture can be seen to build upon the ascetic environmental realities and traditional livelihoods, a heritage of comparatively

Estonia, as a new member of the World Trade Organization, is steadily moving toward a modern market economy with increasing ties to the West, including the pegging of its currency to the euro. The economy benefits from strong electronics and telecommunications sectors. Estonia has been a member of the European Union from May 2004. The economy is greatly influenced by developments in Finland, Sweden, Russia, and Germany, four major trading partners. The high current account deficit remains a concern. Main industries in Estonia are engineering, electronics, wood and wood products, textile and information technology and telecommunications. The main ports and harbours in Estonia are in Haapsalu, Kunda, Muuga, Paldiski, Pärnu and Tallinn. There is about 10,000 km of paved streets/roads/highways and about 41,000 km of unpaved roads. Pollution of the Baltic Sea

Its condition is a challenge for the nine coastal states and their populations - there are 90 million people living in this catchment area. [1] The sources of marine pollution are municipal and industrial waste inputs directly into the sea or rivers, and atmospheric inputs mainly from traffic and farming. Originating from cellulose producing and from paper mills, large amounts of poisonous chlorinated compounds are polluting the coastal waters of Sweden and Finland. Most of this material is still present in sediments of the central Baltic Sea and can be terminated by near bottom currents. [2] Unsustainable factory farming made the Baltic Sea one of the world's most polluted seas. A really bad year was 2010 unprecedented potentially toxic algae bloom covered almost 377,000 square kilometers. This is an area larger than Germany. This affects marine ecosystems and can cause important disturbance to them. [3]

Introduction Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, lies on the Baltic Sea. It is on almost the same latitude east St. Petersburg in Russia, Stockholm in Sweden and Stavanger in Norway, and covers 158 sq km. Tallinn was first marked on a map of the world by the Arab geographer al-Idrisi in 1154, its name then being Kolyvan (probably derived from the name Kalev). In the 13th-century Chronicle of Henricus de Lettis the town was called Lyndanise. Later came Reval (presumably after the old county of Rävala), the name used by the Germans who ruled the country for seven centuries. Russians then modified Reval to Revel

Men and women in politics

Men and women in politics Women have become a force to be reckoned with in the world of politics. Over the past decade, women have resolved into leadership positions, encouraging the same sex to voice their opinions in voting booths, political debates, and society. Not only in America, but nationwide. Women comprise over 35 percent of the lower house in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Demark; 15 percent or less are seen in parliaments within ten countries . Over the years, women had to protest and fight for this right so that young women today can vote and have a say so in who represents the people of our city, state, and country. A woman's influence in politics has yet to be recognized as a true political voice of women that actually yields power. Perceptions of women and politics from the media, society, men, and even women themselves have shaped women's ability everywhere to participate politically and soc...

Emma

Emma The Origins Emma is a given female name. It is derived from the Germanic word ermen meaning whole or universal, and was originally a short form of Germanic names that began with ermen. After the Norman conquest this name became common in England. It was revived in the 18th century, perhaps in part due to Matthew Prior's poem 'Henry and Emma'. It was also used by Jane Austen for the central character, the matchmaker Emma Woodhouse, in her novel 'Emma'. Popularity Name Emma has been among the top names given to baby girls in the United States, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Ireland, France,Sweden, Belgium, Canada, Australia, Norway, New Zealand, Hungary, Finland, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sp...
