Turkey and the European Union

demography of small member states. The social repercussions of such a development raise sensitivities and pose challenges with political ramifications (Joseph, J.S., 2006). TURKEY'S LOCATION The strategic location of Turkey presents a unique challenge to the EU's external role and policies as "it lies at the epicenter of a series of conflicts, real and potential" in the region. Turkish accession will bring closer to the EU the instability and tensions of a strategically vital region with strong, conflicting energy-related interests. The unstable neighbourhoods of the Middle East, Caucasus and Central Asia will become the immediate neighbourhood of the EU and its member states. As a major power in the region Turkey could be drawn into conflicts that work against European, Central Asian and Middle Eastern integration and peace (Joseph, J.S., 2006). In conjunction with this point, the addition of new long external borders will present a major

There are more that 50 different species of them. Kangaroo is a furry and quite long animal who is known for its jumping. They can jump more than 4 meters and achieve 70 km/h. Kangaroos eat grass and leaves. The koala is one of the best-loved Australian animals. It is a small marsupial that lives in eucalyptus trees and it can sleep for 18 hours straight. The aborigines named it "the animal that does not drink", but it eats leaves and bark. The wombat is a small animal that has short, but strong legs and claws, which it uses for digging burrows. It lives on Tasmania, but also in burrows in grasslands of Australia. They do not see well, but they can hear and smell very well. The platypus is a strange-looking marsupial that lays eggs. It has a strong flat tail what it uses to swim. It gets its food mainly from rivers and they live in the rivers of East Australia. The possum is most probably the strangest animal in Australia. It is an egg-laying mammal who feeds its babies with milk

HIV

HIV Mis on HIV ja AIDS? HIV on viirus, mis suurendab inimese vastuvõtlikkust teistele nakkushaigustele. HIV-nakkus on eelkõige nakkus, mis halastamatult hävitab inimese organismi võimet kaitsta end haiguste eest. Inimese organism muutub väga vastuvõtlikuks kõikvõimalikele haigustele (ka sellistele, mida terve immuunsüsteemiga inimesed põevad väga harva ja mille põhjustajateks on suhteliselt ohutud bakterid, seened jmt). Samuti võivad hakata arenema harvaesinevad kasvajad. HIV-nakkuse viimases faasis kujuneb välja AIDS. AIDS ehk HIV-haigus (HIV-tõbi) on HIV-nakkuse lõppfaas.

elements is set to play a role in reducing global warming. Apart form the many benefits obtained from using clay bricks in construction, such as their durability, insulation properties and aesthetic qualities, recent findings show that they also produce less carbon emissions than any other masonry material. History (slide 3) In more detail the earliest bricks were dried bricks, meaning they were formed from clay- bearing earth or mud and dried usually in the sun until they were strong enough for use. The oldest discovered bricks, originally made from shaped mud and dating before 10000 BC, were found in Mesopotamia related to the first known cities. Ceramic or fired bricks were first introduced by the Romans. These were mainly flat, broad thin sections, not unlike a tile, which is probably why they `burnt' so well, causing them to last for centuries. In Estonia the fired clay bricks came in to use in 13 century. The greatest buildings from that

The Renaissance

to grow. A new middle class emerged --bankers, merchants and trades people had a new market for their services. People became wealthier and had more than enough money to spend. They began to build larger houses, buy more expensive clothes and get interested in art and literature. The middle class population also had more free time, which they spent learning foreign languages, reading, playing musical instruments and studying other things of interest. The Renaissance was especially strong in Italian cities. They became centres of trade, wealth and education. Many cities, like Venice, Genoa and Florence had famous citizens who were very rich and gave the city a lot of money. The printing of books led to a new way of thinking. Scholars of the Renaissance returned to the writings of Greek and Roman philosophers. These writings are called the "classics". More and more scholars learned to read Greek and Latin and studied old manuscripts on topics like science, art and life

and the platypus, but they are not highly developed mammals either. The kangaroo and the wombat are marsupials. Their young are born before they are fully developed. The kangaroo is born after being only seven weeks inside it's mother. It is completely blind and only an inch or an inch and a half long. It crawls into its mother's pouch and attaches itself to a nipple there. There it stays for almost three months, when it begins to stick its head out. It is six months old before it is big and strong enough to leave the pouch. Some of the marsupials in Australia look very much like higher animals. The koala, which looks like a live teddy bear, is not really a bear at all but a marsupial. Today Australian marsupials are dying out. Dogs, cats, and rabbits brought to Australia by men are rapidly destroying the gentler marsupials. Some day there may be nothing left of the ancient animals. Australia has around 800 species of birds, 400 of which are unique to this country. There are

The Origins of American Literature

He tended to avoid the use of metaphors or similes and his poetry is often strongly declarative and non-figurative. The poetry of Whitman's contemporary, Emily Dickinson (1830-1886), was even more strikingly original. Born in New England, Dickinson spent most of her life in quiet isolation detached from events of her time. Her poems are extremely personal and intimate. Recurring themes include nature and death and, although she had rejected orthodox religion, much of her work contains a strong sense of spirituality. Many of her poems, however, are ironic and witty suggesting that their creator was a woman of great humour. Dickinson's style was completely unconventional and showed a total disregard for standard poetic forms. Her technique is so innovative that her work was considered unacceptable for publication. Apart from a few poems, most of her work was published posthumously. Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) Life Family background She was born in Amherst, Massachusetts

Great Britain

Artistic and cultural life in Britain is rather rich, like in most of the European countries. It has passed several main stages in its evelopment. The Saxon King Alfred encouraged the arts and culture. The chief debt owed to him by English literature is for his translations of and commentaries on Latin works. Art, culture and literature flourished during the Elizabethan age, during the reign of Elizabeth I; it was the period of English domination of the oceans and colonies, and, due to the strong political and economic position of the country, there were few obstacles in the way of the cultural development. This time is also famous for the fact that William Shakespeare lived and worked then. The empire, which was very powerful under Queen Victoria, saw another cultural and artistic hey-day as a result of industrialisation and the expansion of international trade during the so- called industrial age. However, German air raids caused much damage during the First World War and then during

13. History For thousands of years America was unknown to Europe. In 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered it while trying to reach India. He didn't stay and in the sixteenth century the first Europeans to settle in America were the Spanish, the English and the French. The first village founded by the English settlers was in Virginia in 1607. It was called Jamestown. In 1620 a new group of British settlers reached Plymouth, Massachusetts, called 'Pilgrims' due to their strong belief in religion. They became farmers and businessmen who coped with the Indians and in 1621 had a big dinner to thank the Indians as they had helped them to survive the hard winter. That day is now known as Thanksgiving and is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November in America. More and more people arrived. Over a time settlers from many other countries joined the English in America the French, the Spaniards and the Dutch. Africans were first brought to Virginia in 1619.

several useful perspectives for PA reform (i.e. part of a pluralistic approach). The question here is more whether one favors post-NPM (anti-NPM) or post-post-NPM, Weberian-based PA, the latter being the most advanced, and the most sophisticated, and now called the Neo-Weberian State (NWS). What was an option ten years ago is not an option anymore today. I would say that in PA · in 1995, it was still possible to believe in NPM, although there were the first strong and substantial critiques · in 2000, NPM was on the defensive, as empirical findings spoke clearly against it as well · in 2005, NPM is not a viable concept anymore Yet, in many areas, both of scholarship and of the world, as well as in policy, NPM is very alive and very much kicking. It is, therefore, necessary to look both at the concept itself and at the reasons for its success. Basic Problems of the New Public Management

Fabio Capello

It was to general astonishment, therefore, that Capello walked out on Roma overnight in 2004 - to join Juventus. In response, Roma fans issued a sort of footballing fatwa against their former manager and hero, meaning that, for several years, he could only return to the Italian capital to visit his dentist while accompanied by bodyguards. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Capello put his ability to weather such crises down to his faith. A devout Catholic, his liking for strong doctrine was revealed earlier this year when he disclosed his support of the conservative Pope Benedict XVI and his opposition to Italy's laws allowing abortion. He told an Italian magazine: "I'm very Catholic and I am not all in favour of the current law on abortion. I like the Pope - for me now the Church needs a traditionalist turn. I am someone who prays twice a day, in the morning and evening, wherever I find myself."

performance. Supercharger Disadvantages The biggest disadvantage of superchargers is also their defining characteristic: Because the crankshaft drives them, they must steal some of the engine's horsepower. A supercharger can consume as much as 20 percent of an engine's total power output. But because a supercharger can generate as much as 46 percent additional horsepower, most think the trade-off is worth it. Supercharging puts an added strain on the engine, which needs to be strong to handle the extra boost and bigger explosions. Most manufacturers account for this by specifying heavy-duty components when they design an engine intended for supercharged use. This makes the vehicle more expensive. Superchargers also cost more to maintain, and most manufacturers suggest high-octane premium- grade gas. Despite their disadvantages, superchargers are still the most cost-effective way to increase horsepower

Men tend to have a "fight or flight" response to stress situations while women seem to approach these situations with a "tend and befriend" strategy. Psychologist Shelley E. Taylor coined the phrase "tend and befriend" after recognizing that during times of stress women take care of themselves and their children (tending) and form strong group bonds (befriending). The reason for these different reactions to stress is rooted in hormones. The hormone oxytocin is released during stress in everyone. However, estrogen tends to enhance oxytocin resulting in calming and nurturing feelings whereas testosterone, which men produce in high levels during stress, reduces the effects of oxytocin. 3. Nunavut). Formally considered a constitutional monarchy, Canada is governed by its own House of Commons. While the governor-general is officially the representative of Queen Elizabeth II, in reality the governor-general acts only on the advice of the Canadian prime minister. Canada is an independent, self-governing nation. However, Canadians recognize Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain as Queen of Canada. The position symbolizes the country's strong ties to Great Britain, which ruled Canada completely until 1867. Canada and the United States have had a relationship of cooperation and friendship since the 1800's. In Canada a federal form of government is combined with a cabinet system. As a federation, Canada is made up of ten provinces and three territories. Its national problems are resolved through its central government in Ottawa. Each province has its own government. The territories are self-governing.

The aspects of labour practices that relate to human rights have been incorporated into the latter category. This decision was made to avoid treating “labour rights” as something different from, or less important than, “human rights”. The decision reflects the strong sentiment that an organisation’s contribution in the area of labour practices should not be simply to protect and respect basic rights; it should also be to enhance the quality of the working environment and value of the relationship to the worker. Several of the social performance indicators differ considerably in nature from other economic and environmental performance indicators in the Guidelines. Many of the social

Links between Estonia and English speaking countries

This recognition of the legal continuity of the Republic of Estonia is nowadays seen as one of the cornerstones of Estonian-US relations. The occupation of Estonia and the migration of refugees from Estonia opened a new form of contacts. Many of the people who migrated from Estonia in fear of Soviets found a new home in one or another of the many English speaking countries. Nowadays there are large groups of Estonians living in Australia, USA and Canada. The area around Toronto in Canada has a strong Estonian minority. In the United States alone, according to the data collected in January 2006, 25,034 persons of Estonian ancestry lived. The activities of Estonians, living far away from their homeland, to keep their nationality alive resulted in the series of events called International Estonian days ESTO. One that showed the great importance of English language and the English speaking countries was that the other official and most widely used languages on

So he had just the time to beat Powell for three centimeters (but with a set of jumps rather better) and win 4x100 relay achieving the 8th gold medal in the Olympic games. Then the last years before the Olympic games of Atlanta showed his poorest figures of the career. At Stuttgart he's third in 200 m and 4th in 100 m (he lost, in that season, all the races on 100 m). His apparitions are few and an injury, in 1995, avoided to get a strong defeat at Goeteborg. Meanwhile he's protagonist of successful spots for Pirelli and Citroen. Carl didn't want to effort his body in order to save it for the Olympic games of 1996. But, like four years before, he got injured in 100 m and failed the qualification. In the 200 meters he didn't show a good form. So, for another time, his Olympic games concerned only long jump. In the last competition before the

These moves helped them in many different ways: It employed the "Supplier of Choice" strategy; It was a key player in putting together the Kimberley Process; It remained focused on mining joint ventures; It worked to leverage the De Beers brand, in partly by selling De Beers jewelry; It helped create and then meet emerging demand in emerging markets. (O'Connell 2009) Second reason why they still have a near monopoly is strong advertisement. They play on the fact that they are oldest and most famous diamond company, they don't just sell diamonds they sell De Beers diamonds. They call de beers diamonds as the symbol of the love and when other things disappear on this world then diamonds are forever. That is the reason why millions of loved people every year celebrate their love and one important thing there is the diamonds. Also over the ages the DeBeers diamonds are advertised by the famous people like

On the individualist side we find societies in which the ties between individuals are loose: everyone is expected to look after him/herself and his/her immediate family. On the collectivist side, we find societies in which people from birth onwards are integrated into strong, cohesive in-groups, often extended families (with uncles, aunts and grandparents) which continue protecting them in exchange for unquestioning loyalty. Individualism prevails in developed and Western countries, while Collectivism prevails in less developed and Eastern countries; Japan takes a middle position on this dimension. 47 Maskuliinsus- feminiinsus

they manipulate their consumers with their positive point of view to the world and to it's wonderful prosperity. Reality is that they fall more under the World Systems theory and Marxism but they try to show the world how great of a business they are and how much they care about people and the planet when it is not always true. Future projections Coca-Cola is a very successful company to this day. They operate on a very strong business model what is recession resistant with distinct competitive advantages and a wide economic moat. That being said, there are some that believe that Coca-Cola's best days are behind it. Soda sales have dropped for 11 straight years (Sure Dividend). That could be because people prefer healthier options or sodas have lost their popularity compared to older times where soda drinks were part of every meal eaten. Although the sales are dropping it should not be

body needs. Taste new foods and old ones you haven't tried for a while. Some foods, such as green veggies, are more pleasing the older you get. Shoot for at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day -- two fruits and three vegetables. Drink water and milk most often. When you're really thirsty, cold water is the No. 1 thirst-quencher. And there's a reason your school cafeteria offers free milk. You need calcium to grow strong bones, and milk is a great source of this mineral. How much do you need? Aim for 3 cups of milk per day, or its equivalent. You can mix it up by having milk and some other calcium-rich dairy foods. You probably will want something other than milk or water once in a while, so it's OK to have 100% juice, too. But try to limit sugary drinks, like sodas, juice cocktails, and fruit punches. They contain a lot of added sugar. Sugar just adds calories, not important nutrients. Listen to your body

rate, whereas food supply increased only at an arithmetic rate. Therefore population was continually outstripping food supply, and was kept in check only by starvation, or by indirect acts such as war and diseases. Malthusianism raised a very good question which is not easily noticed. Which individuals survived in hard times, and which died? Luck was probably the largest factor, but not the only one, other factors applied, such as the strong, the courageous, or the adaptable had a somewhat better chance of surviving than those who lacked those characteristics. To the degree that strength, drive, or adaptability were acquired characteristics, they would have no effect on future generations since Lamarckianism had been proven wrong. But to the degree that some individuals inherited these characteristics, they were more likely to survive, to hand down these same characteristics to their descendants. As the

lived in tent-like huts made of animal skins stretched over a frame. Although most Inuit people today live in the same community year-round, and live in homes built of other construction materials that have to be imported, in the past Inuit would migrate between a summer and winter camp which was shared by several families. Getting Around To travel from one place to another, Inuit used sleds made of animal bones and skins pulled over the snow and ice by dogs. Strong dogs with thick fur like huskies, bred by Inuit, were used. On the waters of the Arctic Ocean, small boats called "kayaks" were used for hunting while larger boats called "umiaq" transported people, dogs, and supplies. Finding Food Because Inuit live in places where most plants cannot grow, the traditional diet consisted of almost entirely meat. Inuit fished and hunted to get their food. Whales, walruses, seals, fish were staples of their diet. Clothing for Staying Warm

Kanada

Canada is a large country blessed with many natural resources. From trees they make pulp and paper. From mines they get coal, gold, silver, iron, uranium and other minerals. On the prairies they raise cattle and extract oil and gas beneath the ground. From the oceans they catch fish and other seafood. They export many of their goods to other countries. The most important customers are USA, Japan, UK, Germany and Russia. Though largely dependent on natural resources Canada also has a strong manufacturing country. They make automobile parts and cars. Population. About 28 million people live in Canada from many different nations and they speak different languages. Only 3.3% of the nation is native people. The Constitution Act of 1982 recognizes three groups of aboriginal peoples in Canada: the "Indians" (their legal designation, but now usually called First Nations), Inuit, and Métis. At first the natives were called Eskimos and Indians but now these

Drugs and how they affect your health.

end of 2003. And the trend was increasing-from 3.9 percent diagnosed with AIDS in 1999 to 4.7 percent in 2003. In youth, as in adults, some populations are disproportionately affected. African Americans age 13 to 19 represent only 15 percent of the U.S. teenage population, but accounted for 66 percent of new AIDS cases in 2003. The reasons for this disparity are not completely understood; in fact, African American youth have lower rates of drug abuse than Whites and Hispanics. This remains a strong research priority area for NIDA. In general, middle and late adolescence is a time when young people engage in risk-taking and sensation-seeking-behaviors that may put them in jeopardy of contracting HIV. Regardless of whether a young person takes drugs, unsafe sexual practices increase a person's risk of contracting HIV. But drugs and alcohol can increase the chances of unsafe behavior by altering judgment and decision making. Why Do People Use Illegal Drugs?
