The Magic of Living

Hilary was the daughter of the house and as such expected and got-everything she wanted. Arabella could quite see that she could hardly expect to receive the same attention for herself. She was 22 and a trained children's nurse. It was only natural that her aunt should consider her capable of keeping an eye on the twins. In one day Arabella wanted to go to the doctor's house for tea and game of tennis, but her aunt's hints at lunch had been strong enough for her to scotch this idea. She had resigned herself to entertaining the twins. She spent time with the twins and suddenly she heard Hilary speaking with her. When Hilary called her Bella it meant that she wanted her to do something for her. And so it was. Hilary wanted Arabella to go to the trip with spastic children. Arabella didn't want to go, because she had got some days off to go to the Scotland. Hilary told her that she was asked a date. And the man was Mr. Thisby Barnes

BRITISH CULTURE Etiquette

Everyday Etiquette In general the British prefer to be introduced to strangers, if at all possible wait for a third party introduction when meeting someone new. Great Britain (especially England) is a non touching culture. When greeting someone a handshake accompanied by a "Pleased to meet you" is appropriate. When departing be sure to shake everyone's hand, a general group wave as is often done in the United States is not looked on favorably. Strong eye contact is not overly common among strangers and casual acquaintances, too much eye contact is considered and invasion of privacy. Eye contact is used when one really wants to make a point, when speaking with close friends, and when interest in a person or topic wants to be stressed. Bad Topics of Discussion: politics, religion, and sex. Also the common American question "what do you do?" is considered rude and too personal.

another person with a different background. This means that you don't define your religion by saying "I'm not like those people over there." It means that you describe what you believe and practice it in positive ways, with as little reference to other religions as possible. Then again there are those who feel themselves comfortable and also special when someone is staring him on the street about his different race. That is a very rare but strong attitude and problems with self-confidence never appear. The basic right of every human being is the right for life. But what kind of life it is when you are being manipulated and teased for who you are. No one can choose for who they are born. No wonder it is considered as an art when you are being understanding and open- minded about the many differences of our world . Without prejudgement people would see and think like they really do, not by others and it is the best way to be tolerant

Moulin Rouge

Satine and Christian are planning to leave Mouline Rouge, but then then Zidler informs Satine that she is dying. Satine changes her mind and stays in Mouline Rouge. The night of the show Christian sneakes into the Moulin Rouge. Satine starts to sing the song Christianwrote to express their love. Christian starts to sing with her and returns to the stage. After the curtains close, Satine succumbs to tuberculosis. Before she dies she tells him to write their story. It is movie about how strong love could be and no one can stop them. Despite the tragic end it was a beautiful love story. I think this is one of the best movies where Nicole Kidman has acted in. I would recommend this to anyone who likes musicals and also is a fan of love stories. Kätlin Koolmeister

Doing business in Australia

a small gift from your country. *Table manners are same as in Europe. *The person making the invitation generally pays the bill in restaurants. However, it is usual for friends to split the bill. *If you are invited out for a drink, don’t recall the subject of business unless your counterpart does so. *In a pub, each person is expected to pay for a round of drinks. Avoiding your turn to pay will only create a bad impression of you. Body language * Strong eye-contact is essential - it demonstrates involvement. *The accepted distance between people at meetings is an arm's length. *The "thumbs up" gesture is also a vulgar one. So be careful when you want to express joy or victory

AMEERIKA JALGPALLI POSITSIOONIDE NIMETUSED

AMEERIKA JALGPALLI POSITSIOONIDE NIMETUSED Sissejuhatus Valisin teemaks ameerika jalgpalli positsioonid, kuna see on huvitav ala, mida võiks ka Eestis rohkem harrastada. Offensive guar...

but Tesla was penniless and rejected as he failed to protect his commercial interests. He invested all his money into inventions to make men’s life a little easier. Tesla was born at the stroke of midnight between July 9th and 10th 1856. A fierce electrical storm raged that night. His father was an Orthodox priest. His mother accompanied by .one of the oldest Serbian families. In his boyhood he suffered from a peculiar reflection due to the appearance of images often descended from strong flashes of light. He was unable to distinguish whether what he saw was tangible or not. He pictured the Niagara in his imagination as a big wheel run by the Nature. In his room he could hear the ticking of a watch with 3 rooms between him and the timepiece. A carriage passed in a distance of a few miles fairly shacked his whole body The whistle of a distant locomotive vibrates so strongly in his ears that the pain was unbearable

Louna-Aafrika poliitajalugu, South Africa

The important thing is not what states were called or how long they lasted, but how they were organised, maintained control, gained and lost legitimacy. South African state formed out of: Conquest Colonization Slavery Indentured labour Racially discriminatory laws reserved jobs for whites; differential pay-scales etc Post 1910 state strong and centralized institutionalised racism: "power, wealth and privileges [distributed] unequally on a racial basis" (Giliomee, 1995, p190) Farming and mining (the basis of the economy) both required large work forces. Once slavery was abolished, need for to generate labour force. Taxation (poll tax) used to force blacks into labour force. Segregation used to control access of blacks to land. You shouldn't blame him for succumbing to such a strong force; true love conquers all. And you should, know, if you don't already, that there are two universal truths about love. First, is that it is in man's nature to love a woman, and in women's to love a man. Secondly, those who are truly in love must be driven mad by the force of the erotic fantasies that come so naturally, which God gave us in order for humanity to continue; we would perish without this driving force.

waves. Dynamic stretching is an important factor of mobility in order to deform and extend the muscles.12 Stretching dynamically is also an opportunity to stretch intensely beyond one’s abilities and develop hypermobile joints as a consequence. Contrary to the positive effects of hypermobility, the condition can cause a lot of inconveniences and discomfort. If one has the syndrome, one also has a greater risk to injure or dislocate one’s joints. Since the joints are fragile and not strong enough to endure the pressure one applies to them, sprains as well as strains are easy to emerge. Furthermore, one can sustain extreme pain because of the condition. Some of the patients suffer from chronic pain during their entire lives. In most cases, the musculoskeletal pain is caused by arthritis 13, which is a joint inflammation that causes a lot of pain. The joints affected are located mostly in the spine, fingers or knees. The

of Independence when Estonian forces defeated the German troops on 23 June 1919. After this battle against Estonia's traditional oppressors, Jaaniõhtu and the lighting of the traditional bonfires became linked with the ideals of independence and freedom. Jaanipäev marks a change in the farming year, specifically the break between the completion of spring sowing and the hard work of summer hay-making. Understandably, some of the rituals of Jaanipäev have very strong folkloric roots. The best-known Jaani, or midsummer, ritual is the lighting of the bonfire and the jumping over it. This is seen as a way of guaranteeing prosperity and avoiding bad luck. Likewise, to not light the fire is to invite the destruction of your house by fire. The fire also frightened away mischievous spirits who avoided it at all costs, thus ensuring a good harvest. So, the bigger the fire, the further the mischievous spirits stayed away. Midsummer's eve is important for lovers

Some soldiers do not have strong nervous system and they can go crazy, some of them can go even a bedlam. If the soldier has been in the war but haven't had any visible injuries it doesn`t mean that he isn´t wounded. We can never know what he saw and how did it effect him mentally. She thinks that woman who get married are fools because married people share their money and other possessions with husbands, who in her opinion aren’t worth it at all. Throughout this novel, Christophine appeared as a strong woman and it looked like she wanted to teach these traits to Antoinette as well as she was basically her substitute mother. This is emphasized by this quote: A man don’t treat you good, pick up your skirt and walk out. This is what Christophine tells her daughter when she has problems with her husband. passage of the Emancipation Act takes places. This means that black slaves are freed and led to the demise of many white slave owners. Because of this act, black men and women start to feel more powerful and superior towards the ex-slave owners. Throughtout Antoinette´s childhood, hostility is present between the weakened white aristocracy and the black servants they employ. On account of this situation, black women feel themselves more independent and strong. First of all, when the slaves are free and there is no need to work for others anymore, many servants leave their employers and turn their back on them. For example, there is a young black girl named Tia who is the daughter of an attendant and she is Antoinette´s only companion. One day Tia unexpectedly turns against Antoinette. Tia sees the pennies that Christophine has given Antoinette and she bets three pennies that Antoinette cannot turn a somersault under water

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

12.d “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” (Mahatma Gandhi) Mahatma Ghandi expresses that everything starts with us, our willingness to help create the world we dream of. It is unlikely that any of us will be the next Mother Teresa but every person has hidden power to do something that benefits to the society. People´s roles are nowadays as important as the next persons, even if they think that little things are insignificant and have no effect, with enough people these small things add up and make an even bigger change that any single organization or person could ever do. To be the change we want to see in the world, people do not have to be smart, rich or well educated. They need to have a dream and commitment. The problems facing the world today are great, and it will surely take the greatness of millions if not b...

That is the reason why Taavi Rõivas was forced to resign from the government and he stepped down as the chairman of the party. The new government left the Reform Party opposition of coalition. The new government turned new page, but ministers are quite the same and there has always been lying in the government. I think there would not be much changes, because people do not change. Changing the government so frequently shows that our politicians and ministers are not strong enough to handle so many crisis. It is sad, that our lives depend, one way or another, of what our country’s government does and decides.

The Goblin

The Farmer had never enough of money and he made everything to develop his bussiness. He had so much money that he decided to go to the casino and as a result he lost it. The Goblin strangles his master and sets his farm on fire. In the end, the Goblin dies, too. But the positive thing is that the love story of two young people stays alive and they are happy together. "The Goblin" was an outstanding performance. All the dancers had excellent dancing skills and emotionally strong influence, the decorations and costumes were great. Moreover, the breathtaking music was based completely on the Estonian folclore and helped to imagine all the dancers' emotions. It was a contemporary ballet, that included elements of classical ballet and modern dance. It does not have fixed rules and because of that it is easier to show real feelings and emotions. It was also quite extraordinary and interesting, that in one scene there took part the National female chorus.

U.S.A

For thousands of years America was unknown to Europe. In 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered it while trying to reach India. He didn't stay and in the sixteenth century the first Europeans to settle in America were the Spanish, the English and the French. The first village founded by the English settlers was in Virginia in 1607. It was called Jamestown. In 1620 a new group of British settlers reached Plymouth, Massachusetts, called 'Pilgrims' due to their strong belief in religion. They became farmers and businessmen who coped with the Indians and in 1621 had a big dinner to thank the Indians as they had helped them to survive the hard winter. That day is now known as Thanksgiving and is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November in America. More and more people arrived. Over a time settlers from many other countries joined the English in America the French, the Spaniards , the Dutch. Africans were first brought to Virginia in 1619

Environmental problems (Keskkonnaprobleemid)

What have governments around the world been trying to do about it? Climate Change Flexibility Mechanisms · Flexibility mechanisms were defined in the Kyoto Protocol as different ways to achieve emissions reduction as part of the effort to address climate change issues. These fall into the following categories: Emissions Trading, Joint Implementation and Clean Development Mechanism. · However, these have been highly controversial as they were mainly included on strong US insistence and to keep the US in the treaty (even though the US eventually pulled out). Some of the mechanisms face criticism for not actually leading to a reduction in emissions, for example. Global Warming and Population · It seems there has been a recent interest in associating climate change/global warming with "over population" and that countries such as China and India have to do more to help contain global warming. · Yet rich countries have a lot to do themselves

Essay on Iron Man

Iron Man essay A superhero is a character with extraordinary powers who is dedicated to protecting the public. However, this definition can be matched with different sets of character traits. This essay discusses what makes Iron Man special and memorable. Besides literally being strong, which a superhero obviously needs to be, Iron Man aka Tony Stark was also highly intelligent. That's what actually helped him in most situations rather than mindlessly beating the opponent. Tony Stark had graduated with advanced degrees in physics and engineering at the age of 17 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. When imprisoned and forced to create a weapon of mass destuction in the movie Iron Man, Stark was able to build an armor suit and a reactor to escape

Cachaça is mostly produced in Brazil, where, according to 2007 figures, 1.5 billion liters (390 million gallons) are consumed annually, compared with 15 million liters (4.0 million gallons) outside the country. It is typically between 38% and 54% alcohol by volume. When it is homemade it can be as strong as the distiller wants. Up to six grams per liter of sugar may be added." The major difference between cachaça and rum is that rum is usually made from molasses, a by-product from refineries that boil the cane juice to extract as much sugar crystal as possible, while cachaça is made from fresh sugarcane juice that's fermented and distilled. While many rums are made from molasses, "cachaça rum" is made from "cachaça", by-product quite different from molasses

Australia

It is an enormous rock in the middle of the desert in the Northern Territory. It is three kilometres long and nearly 2.5 kilometres high in total. It is 600 million years old, and it is the largest rock of its kind in the world. Uluru is a sacred place for the Aborigines. Thanks to Australia's isolation, it has plants and animals unlike anywhere else in the world. The kangaroo is the most well-known of them. They have strong back legs and tails, allowing them to travel at high speeds and jump very high and far. The koalas live in eucalyptus trees, sleeping for 18 hours and drinking almost nothing. Both of those animals have pouches for their babies. Two very strange animals are the spiny anteater and the platypus. Their babies are born from eggs but drink milk from their mothers. There are more than 800 kinds of birds in Australia. The emu is a flightless bird. It is up to two metres tall and can run very fast.

Although Ben and John felt a little nervous, they walked slowly through the creaky front gate and up the long sidewalk. The old stairs creaked as they climbed onto the porch. Lying on the floor of the porch they saw a broken flower pot. "That's what made the loud crash we heard," Ben said

The ears were short and small. Around the cheeks the Caspian tiger was generously furred and the rest of its fur was long and thick. The colouration resembled that of the Bengal tiger. around midnight and don’t close until the sun rises. Several clubs stage "cultural nites" which feature music, traditional foods and drinks from some of Kenya's main ethinic communities. An excellent opprtuinty to see Kenyans unplugged and hear the biggest local music acts. Shopping in Kenya is dominated by souvenir sellers. Handmade items may be purchased at market stalls, roadside stands, and from street peddlers. Be prepared for a strong sales pitch, offering bargain prices on handcrafts. Prices are initially determined based on what these sellers believe you will pay, but can generally be bargained down to a low price. I recommend it to people who like to explore something new and wild. There are many intresting places to go and see, foremost National Parks, where you can see animals with your own eye. It’s just thing you can’t miss. Have you ever seen animals
