Sunflower

The Giant sunflower grows between July and October. To grow well, sunflowers need full sun. They grow best in fertile, moist, well-drained soil with a lot of mulch. In commercial planting, seeds are planted 45 cm (1.5') apart and 2.5 cm (1") deep. Sunflower "whole seed" (fruit) is sold as snacks and can be processed into a peanut butter alternative, Sunbutter, especially in China, the United States, the Middle East and Europe. In Russia it is probably the most wide spread snack.[citation needed] It is also sold as food for birds and can be used directly in cooking and salads. Sunflower oil, extracted from the seeds, is used for cooking (but is less cardiohealthy than olive oil), as a carrier oil and to produce biodiesel, for which it is less expensive than the olive product. During the 18th Century, the use of sunflower oil became very popular in Europe, particularly with members of the Russian Orthodox Church because sunflower oil was

itself solely by hunting. Many Inuit from smaller camps moved into permanent settlements because there was access to jobs and food. In many areas Inuit were required to live in towns by the 1960s. Mythology Malina Malina is the Sun goddess of the Inuit people who live in Greenland. The word "Inuit" means "people." Malina and her brother, the Moon god Anningan, lived together. They got into a terrible fight and Malina spread dirty, black grease all over her brother's face. In fear, she ran as far as she could into the sky and became the Sun. Anningan chased after her and became the Moon. Anningan Anningan often forgets to eat, so he gets thinner as the days go by. Every month, the Moon disappears for three days while Anningan eats. He then returns to chase his sister once again. This eternal chase makes the Sun alternate in the sky with the Moon.

Rugby, cricket and football are believed to foster the values of co-operation and fair-minded competition. The Derby drew large crowds even in 1780 when is started. The banks or the Thames are always lined when the Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge takes place. It started in 1829. Cricket is quite popular in Britain. Kasv, mida kirjeldataks eksponentsiaalse funktisooniga. o Microorganisms in a culture dish will grow exponentially, at first, after the first microorganism appears (but then logistically until the available food is exhausted, when growth stops). o A virus (SARS, West Nile, smallpox) of sufficient infectivity (k > 0) will spread exponentially at first, if no artificial immunization is available. variety of plants, which grow exceptionally well. Most of Britain was once covered with thick deciduous forests in which oak trees predominated. The impact of centuries of dense human population has massively altered the flora of Britain and only small parts of those forests remain today. Although about 10 percent of Britain is still forested, most of this area consists of commercially planted coniferous forests in Wales. Before they were affected by the people, the oak forests spread over the best soils of Britain. Forests were unable to establish themselves in the poorer soils of the mountains, wetlands and heath. The plants common to these wilder areas are heather, peat moss, rowan and bilberry. Some wetland areas have drained and are now covered by towns and farmland. Animal life An estimated 30,000 animal species live in Britain, although many of them are on the endangered list. Britain has many small mammals and the large ones tend to be gentle.

Christmas in different countrys(jõulud erinevates maades)

In Syria on December 6, a special Mass is held in churches in honor of Saint Nicholas Thaumaturgus, who legend has said was a kind and generous man not dissimilar to Saint Nicholas after who Santa Claus is modelled. On Christmas Eve everyone in the family, carries a lit candle, to stand around an unlit bonfire outside their house. The youngest child usually the son of the family reads the Christmas story, after which the bonfire is lit. The way the flames spread shows the luck of the house in the coming year. When the fire burns, psalms are sung, and when it sinks, everyone leaps over the embers making wishes. Early on Christmas morning everyone goes to Mass. At this Mass another bonfire is lit in the middle of the floor. While the wood is blazing, ancient hymns are sung and the celebrant carries a figure of the Christ Child around the building. After this the celebrant then touches the nearest person in a "touch of peace"

It is not uncommon for musicians to be playing dancehall music on Saturday night, and church music on Sunday morning. The Rastafari movement was founded in Jamaica. This Back to Africa movement believes that Haile Selassie of Ethiopia was God incarnate, the returned black messiah, come to take the lost Twelve Tribes of Israel back to live with him in Holy Mount Zion in a world of perfect peace, love and harmony. "Where have you been the past ten years?" "There, "laughed the girl and pointed to the tower. However, the stranger didn't believe her. "This tower is a cursed one no one has ever been there. My mom says an evil witch lives there waiting for the darkness to rise again..." "A witch? Now really am I that frightening?" The man smiled and said in a pleasant voice, "To my mind you are very pretty so it's impossible for you to live there. The demon has black wings and a power to spread disease, too." "I don't know about the last fact, but I do have wings, actually." "Yea right and cats can fly! That's not even a laughing matter to my mind." "Apart from your good looks, you sure can be rude," said Misery in a low voice. The man stared blankly back at her they were both angry now. "Well, I am sorry for disturbing you, but it's really time for me to go now. Farewell." And the light-haired man disappeared to a tunnel leading to the royal labyrinth.

It was to some extent a continuation of its important aspects. There was an interest in symmetry, clear definition of shape, immaculate surface and formal order. This was opposed to the unrestricted and spontaneous character of Action Painting. "Hard-edge" was associated with this style. Chromatic abstraction spread wide in the late 1950s. Exemplary artist. SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The Chinese first developed rockets by filling bamboo tubes with an explosive made from saltpetre, charcoal, and sulphur. The sealed tubes would be thrown onto fires during celebrations because it was thought that the loud explosions would protect them. It was not long before the ancient Chinese realised the military potential of these devices and primitive rockets were used to repel a Mongol invasion in 1232 AD. Word of these new amazing weapons quickly spread around the world and soon rockets were being used in military operations in North Africa and Europe. During the 15 th and 16th centuries they were widely used in naval battles to set fire on enemy ships. Around this time they also started being used for more peaceful purposes again. In the 16th and 17th century Europe fireworks displays using rockets became a very popular form of public entertainment.

The Middle Ages

Bannockburn. Signing of the Magna Carta Magna Carta is a British document, which was signed by King John in 1215. It reaffirmed long-standing rights and responsibilities of the English nobility; limited the powers of the king; and recognized that all people, including the government and monarch, are subject to the law. Peasants' Revolt The Peasants' Revolt of 1381 is one of the most dramatic events of English history. It began as a local revolt in Essex and quickly spread across much of the south east of England. The causes of the Peasants Revolt: No peasants could be paid more than the wages paid in 1346. No lord or master should offer more wages than paid in 1346. No peasants could leave the village they belonged to. On June 14th, the king met the rebels at Mile End. At this meeting, Richard II gave the peasants all that they asked for and asked that they go home in peace. Some did.

remained Canada West, and Lower Canada becoming Canada East. This system remained in effect until Confederation in 1867, when the name was applied to the four provinces that joined forces at that time - Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario. Eventually the other provinces joined Confederation: Manitoba in 1870, British Columbia in 1871, prince Edward Island in 1873, the two prairie provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta in 1905, and finally Newfoundland in 1949. Thus the name Canada spread from a small community on the St. Lawrence to embrace half a continent from sea to sea and from 3rd to 49th parallel to the North Pole. Political System of Canada Canada is an independent, self-governing nation. However, Canadians recognize Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain as Queen of Canada. The position symbolizes the country's strong ties to Great Britain, which ruled Canada completely until 1867. Canada and the United States have

Besides commercial fields listed, there are a number of club ski areas around the country that are open to visitors. Nordic skiing is popular in the South Island. One such area can be found near Wanaka. Growing numbers of mountains are being opened up for ski-planes and heliskiing. The Tasman Glacier, for instance, has 13km of deep powder, as well as stunning views. Bungy jumping, parapenting & skydiving New Zealand is the home of bungy jumping, centred on Queenstown, though it has spread to numerous other sites, including Taupo and Hanmer Springs. The slightly less courageous can enjoy a tandem hang-glide or tandem parapenting, taking in the views of Queenstown, Nelson or Christchurch as someone else takes the controls and steers the glider or chute back to earth. For the ultimate thrill, though, there is the free-fall skydive from 3500m. Harnessed to a tandem master, the experience starts with a scenic flight, then comes the free fall at 200km per hour

society: The poor or the middle class had to access most books through a public library or by other means while the rich could afford to have a private library built in their homes. The advent of paperback books in the 20th century led to an explosion of popular publishing. Paperback books made owning books affordable for many people. Paperback books often included works from genres that had previously been published mostly in pulp magazines. As a result of the low cost of such books and the spread of bookstores filled with them (in addition to the creation of a smaller market of extremely cheap used paperbacks) owning a private library ceased to be a status symbol for the rich. 12/15 In library and booksellers' catalogues, it is common to include an abbreviation such as "Crown 8vo" to indicate the paper size from which the book is made. When rows of books are lined on a book holder, bookends are sometimes needed to keep them from slanting

At that time Asia and North America were joined, and what is now the bottom of the Bering Sea between Russia and Alaska was dry land, (a "land bridge) because sea levels were much lower than they are now. The earliest man-made artifacts tools or ornaments that archaeologists have found date from that time. The theory is that nomadic hunting people followed the big animals (moose, deer, elk, buffalo) for food, and eventually moved south and spread out as the ice sheets melted back. Then they evolved different cultures to suit different environments. Scientists now think that the ancestors of First Nations people may have come to North America from several different parts of Asia and Polynesia, following several different routes. Some may have come on woven reed rafts, or boats, across the Pacific from Asia and various islands. Still others may have crossed the ice fields that once connected Europe and North America

The different dialects and the rise of a standardised middle class in London led to changes in pronunciation, which continued to spread out from that city. · The sudden social mobility after the Black Death may have caused the shift, with people from lower levels in society moving to higher levels. · The medieval aristocracy had spoken French, but by the early fifteenth century, they were using English. MRSA

Don't stop until your doctor tells you to stop. Don't share antibiotics with others or save unfinished antibiotics for another time. Inappropriate use of antibiotics, including not taking all of your prescription and overuse, contributes to resistance. If your infection isn't improving after a few days of taking an antibiotic, contact your doctor. Is it necessary to sanitize buses and close schools for cleaning? Most MRSA is spread through skin-to-skin contact or through shared items such as towels, razors and bandages. In most cases, it's not necessary to close schools unless an outbreak of MRSA cannot be controlled otherwise. It's possible that surfaces -- such as a bus seat -- may be contaminated for hours to days, but infection is not a likely result. Following the tips above is the most effective means of preventing MRSA infection. If you suspect an MRSA infection, what should you do?

The term is generally not applied to events organized by public relations firms or as publicity stunts. This can also be considered mass public performance art. 4.9. Yarn bombing Yarn Bombing is a type of street art that employs colourful displays of knitted or crocheted cloth rather than paint or chalk. The practice is believed to have originated in the U.S. with Texas knitters trying to find a creative way to use their leftover and unfinished knitting projects, but has since spread worldwide. While other forms of graffiti may be expressive, decorative, territorial, socio-political commentary, advertising or vandalism, yarn bombing is almost exclusively about beautification and creativity. Along the Gulf of Mexico grow magnolia, red and black gum, cypress and mangrove. In the west grow forests of sequoia. In the NW grow conifers firs, hemlocks, cedars, spruces and pines. Agriculture Agriculture is a major industry in the United States and the country is a net exporter of food. Corn, turkeys, tomatoes, potatoes, peanuts, and sunflower seeds constitute some of the major holdovers from the agricultural endowment of the Americas. In the U.S., farms spread from the colonies westward along with the settlers. In cooler regions, wheat was often the crop of choice when lands were newly settled, leading to a "wheat frontier" that moved westward over the course of years. Also very common in the antebellum Midwest was farming corn while raising hogs, complementing each other especially since it was difficult to get grain to market before the canals and railroads. After the "wheat frontier" had passed through an area, more diversified

Canada

adventures in Canada must have come to an end well before that time. The first permanent European settlements were established by the French king Louis XIV, who made a deal with a fur trading company so that only they would be allowed to trade beaver pelts, which were in fashion that time and they would settle Canada at Port Royal in 1605 and Quebec City in 1608, and by the English in Newfoundland, around 1610. European explorers and trappers brought European diseases that spread rapidly through native trade routes and decimated the Aboriginal population. For much of the 17th century, the English and French colonies in North America were able to develop in relative isolation from each other. French colonists extensively settled the St. Lawrence River valley, while English colonists largely settled in the Thirteen Colonies to the south. However, as competition for territory, naval bases, furs and fish escalated, several wars broke out between the French,

ended some 10,000 years ago, following the retreat of the glaciers and the appearance of vegetation. Today, there are over 1,200 species of vascular plant, 800 bryophytes and 1,000 lichen species in Finland, with flora being richest in the southern parts of the country. Plant life, like most of the Finnish ecology, is well adapted to tolerate the contrasting seasons and extreme weather. Many plant species, such as the Scots Pine, spruce, birch spread throughout Finland from Norway and only reached the western coast less than three millennia ago. Oak and maple grows in nature only in the southern part of Finland. The Archipelago Sea, between the Gulf of Bothnia and the Gulf of Finland, is the largest archipelago in the world by number of islands; estimates vary between 20,000 and 50,000. Similarly, Finland has a diverse and extensive range of fauna. There are at least sixty native

Jacques Louis David ja Prantsuse Revolutsioon

The figures on the painting tell us a story about a man named Brutus who was the founding father of the Roman Republic and who sent his own sons to death because they had betrayed the country. As for the style of the painting, David was still using the Roman approach with classical style and mostly borrowed all aspects from antiquity. With regard to the receptivity of the public, the king and his supporters tried to ban the panting, but despite of all their efforts it was widely spread and seen. Moreover, it was extremely risky for David to send Brutus to an exhibition sponsored by the king himself, because of the fact that a while ago David himself worked for the king and now he is presenting a work that potentially damages the king's reputation. (Friedlaender, 1952, p.18) The theme of Brutus and the Lictors brings about the feeling of patriotism and sacrifice. Moreover, the events that occurred in France at the time when David was painting Brutus

the audience, start observing the altars of modern churches, stages for TV award programs, and the podium arrangements used by professional seminar leaders. In each case, the speaker either operates without a lectern, or the lectern is a transparent stand. The reason, as we have learned here, is to avoid having the speaker partially blocked from the audience and to allow the speaker to use the full body. One of the most difficult room arrangements for a speaker is when the audience is spread out a full 180 degrees from left to right. In this situation, the tendency is to look straight ahead, virtually ignoring the two thirds of the audience to the left and right. In such cases, it is better to make the extra effort to include the whole audience in your eye contact, addressing some statements to the left, other comments in the middle, and still more remarks to the people on the

ASPECTS OF BRITISH HISTORY

In the second millennium they started using bronze. The Iberians were farmers who bred cattle and probably tamed horses. The Celtic Settlement Towards the Christian era, there was an Iron Age Celtic culture throughout the British Isles. The Celts1 had been arriving from Europe from the eighth century BC onwards. The Celts began to control all the lowland areas of Britain and, with new waves of settlers coming one after another, gradually spread all over Britain and the other islands. It seems that the Celts mixed with the Iberian peoples who were already there. It is also possible that they drove many of the older inhabitants westwards into Wales, Ireland and Scotland where they were eventually assimilated2. Celtic Culture The Celtic tribes continued the same kind of agriculture as the Bronze Age people before them. But the use of iron technology and more advanced ploughing

Kreooli kultuur

Africa Portuguese Africa and the origins of "Creole" The English word creole derives from the French créole, which in turn came from Portuguese crioulo. This word, a derivative of the verb criar ("to raise"), was coined in the 15th century, in the trading and military outposts established by Portugal in West Africa and Cape Verde. It originally referred to descendants of the Portuguese settlers who were born and "raised" locally. The word then spread to other languages, probably adopted from Portuguese slave traders who supplied most of the slaves to South America through the 16th century. While the Portuguese may have originally reserved the term crioulo for people of strictly European descent, the crioulo population came to be dominated by numerous people of mixed Portuguese and African ancestry. This mixing happened relatively quickly in most Portuguese colonies of the time. The

Human love- could be seen as an image of what it meant to love God. The Mother of God, a gracious lady and loving mother could be also worshipped. The cult of Mary emerges and runs parallel with the chivalric idealization of women. For the change of sexual passion into a cult of an idealized woman the warrior had to undergo a cultural transformation. This became possible when he was taken to the king or a great nobleman's court. The courts were run by well-educated clerics who spread the idea of courtier manners and morals. The virtues prized were: no boasting, gentleness, friendliness, moderation, temperate moods. In this times literature and culture of ancient Rome was paid much attention. The works of Virgil, Horace, and Ovid were read, students studied them. Trained in the classics, but in touch with the aspirations and realities of medieval society, the clerks created the chivalric romance of love-new attitude to women

Inglise keele kodulugemine teemal: Mass Media

give the press, and this results in poor coverage, or even in situations where some journalists do not respond the next time they are approached by the same NGO. It is important to have a clear, realistic aim when you use the mass media, such as: specific facts to be disseminated, a project announced, an appeal for money or support, introducing a new person or activity, etc. If you do not have newsworthy information, you should not try to use the media to spread your message via free news coverage, but instead use paid advertising or other channels of communication. Finally, the impact of the mass media should be monitored, so that you can determine what kind of and how much impact the media has on people and society. It might prove more useful for your organizational goals to use other communication means, such as religious, social or tribal groups, the school system, political parties, the government agencies, or other NGOs. Need võrgud on üles ehitatud standardi IEEE 802.11 esitatavatele nõuetele. 802.11 standard käsitleb OSI raammudeli jaotusele vastavate füüsilise ja lülikihi funktsioone. 802.11 on traadita tehnoloogiate põhistandard, millele tuginevad teised arendused. Kasutatav sagedus 2,4845 GHz. Edastuskiirus 1,2 Mb/s.

The leader was John Wycliffe, an Oxford professor. In 1396 he translated the Bible into English. Henry IV, Richard's successor was deeply loyal to the Church. In 1401 burnt men & women for heresy & orthodoxy. The condition of women was no doubt hard. The Church taught that women should obey their husbands. The ideas spread about women were: they should be pure & holy like the Virgin Mary; like Eve they could not be trusted & were moral danger to men. Such teaching led men usually both to worship & also look down on women. Marriage was usually the single most important event in the lives of men & women, but the decision itself was made by the family, not the couple themselves. Once married, a woman had to accept her husband children, preferably sons. The wife of a noble had other responsibilities

(literally "early spring") On New Year's Day, Japanese people have a custom of giving money to children. This is known as otoshidama (, otoshidama?). It is handed out in small decorated envelopes called 'pochibukuro,' similar to Goshugi bukuro or Chinese red envelopes and to the Scottish handsel. In the Edo period large stores and wealthy families gave out a small bag of mochi and a Mandarin orange to spread happiness all around. The amount of money given depends on the age of the child but is usually the same if there is more than one child so that no one feels slighted. Mochi Another custom is creating rice cakes (, mochi?). Boiled sticky rice (, mochigome?) is put into a wooden shallow bucket-like container and patted with water by one person while another person hits it with a large wooden mallet. Mashing the rice, it forms a sticky white dumpling

Law-makers breaking the law: torture as a justified interrogation technique?

possible agreed upon treaties and conventions. One could indeed possibly think of situations that could serve as an exception to the prohibition of torture but these hypothetical situations can hardly relate to real situations. The ticking bomb argument looks at the hypothetical case where a leader of a state is asked to give their permission to torture a captured rebel leader because he (probably) knows the locations of a few explosives that are spread around the city in different apartment buildings. In case they are not found within 24 hours, they will explode and many will be left dead (Walzer, 1973). Is it justified to torture this person to find out where the bomb is? This essay will look in to how it has according to the thinkers in the strand of consequentialism / utilitarianism been labelled justifiable to use torture techniques in combating terrorism and will present the reasons for why this controversial behaviour
