includes among its objectives to provide a tool to embrace diversity as a core value of ONR; to change the organizational culture to enhance the participation of minority, female, and disabled scientists and engineers; and to attract and retain qualified new people into ONR. Creating a more diverse science and engineering work force at ONR is important to its future success, not only because of the demographic changes, but also because of the Navy's need to tap the very best minds from all sources for its research and development efforts. Based on its findings, the committee makes two primary recommendations: to create specific targets for increasing diversity and to appoint an external group to monitor progress. In addition, a series of suggestions are provided for implementation of these recommendations in the areas of recruitment and hiring and employee development and climate. Some of recommendations:

Political analysis (PEST) Lithuania

The president is directly elected by the people and serves a 5-year term. The parliament, known as the Seimas, has 141 members who are elected for 4-year terms. The highest tariffs are on tobacco, automobiles, jewelry, and gasoline. The personal income tax level is 33 percent with rates of between 10 to 35 percent on supplemental income from investments or interest dividends. The Great Guild/Suurgild

The Great Guild Liisbeth Kallakmaa The Great Guild Medieval Tallinn's social institutions were guilds and brotherhoods, whose main function was to provide members with social interactions and ensure their rights, but also played an important political and economic role. Tallinn had three important guilds - The Great Guild, St. Canute's Guild and St. Olaf's guild. The Great Guild was the youngest among them, founded in the 14th century, but soon became the biggest and most important. It was founded as an organization of the wealthiest merchants and shipowners. The name of the Great Guild was introduced in the late 15th century. There were close ties between the guild and the town rules: only members of the Great Guild had the right to belong to the town council and could be elected for mayor. Tallinn's small coat of arms is also the Great Guild's coat of arms. Guild was led by Alderman, with the assistance of t...

The euro in Estonia

On the 2nd of January I saw one counterfeiting incident myself while shopping. In the cashier's office next to the one I was in, a man paid his bill with a 5 banknote. It was a fake one and the cashier immediately called the police and the shop manager. I saw he was really confused and heard he got the fake banknote from Statoil in Tallinn. I don't know how this story ended, but one thing I know for sure - the banknote got taken away from him. The sources I used were all from the Internet. I couldn't use any books to search information about the coming of euro, because as far as I know there is none. I also haven't kept those leaflets that were sent to every household in Estonia, so I couldn't use them either. With regard to the papers, then I don't have any of these in my home too - we read the news online and watch the newscast from television. One newspaper actually did help me a lot - it was the online version of

Personal choice weighs over and dominates the reasons of individual actions. Through rational conscious thoughts one may select the temptations of preference. One may think of the consequences of one's actions or think that one is too smart to get caught. Regardless of what is coming into us from external sources, we choose what we want and what seems most appealing. People balance the risks and costs involved in doing a certain act. Upon seeing which benefit outweighs the most, we decide to act. Well, on the other hand we might decide not to act. It depends on the person. Once again it all boils down to evil vs. good in the world. The evil will always be around tempting us all to do the wrong thing, but if we seek

Mother Theresa

Mother Teresa Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu /agns gna bjadju/ (Albanian Gonxha for "rosebud") was born on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, now the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. Although she was born on August 26, 1910, she considered August 27, 1910, the day she was baptized, to be her "true birthday." Although some sources state that she was 10 when her father died, in an interview with her brother, the Vatican documents her age at the time as "about eight". She was the youngest of the children of a family from Shkodër, Albania, born to Kolë and Dranafile Bojaxhiu (Albanian Dranafile for "rose", nicknamed "Drone"). Her father, Kolë Bojaxhiu was involved in Albanian politics. In 1919, after a political meeting, which left Skopje out of Albania, he fell ill and died when Agnes was about eight years old

The Aborigines arrived in Australia at about 40,000BC, from which Tasmania was cut off by rising water levels at around 8,000BC. Convicts started being transported to Australia in 1770 which was a disaster for the Aborigines. Captain cook arrived in Botany Bay and claimed Australia for Britain. The 18th century life was hard and even small crimes were severe in Britain. Sometimes prisoners would be sentenced to transportation. After the American War of Independence (17751783) transportation wasn't possible anymore and the government began looking for another place for the transportees which was selected to be Botany Bay. ...

cut government spending and/or increase taxes and thus lower consumption, or some combination of the two. Government Budget In the course of a year the government budget is kept track of and there are three large parts observed. Government purchases (what we have called G) + transfer payments (like social security payments to beneficiaries) tax revenue from all sources. Let's rewrite this as Government budget = G tax + transfers = G (tax -transfers) = G T, Where T is net taxes, or taxes net of transfers. · If G T > 0 we have a budget deficit in the year, · If G T < 0 we have a budget surplus in the year, and · If G T = 0 we have a balanced budget in the year.

Boston Tea Party

Europeans developed a taste for tea in the 17th century. When tea became popular in the British colonies in North America, Parliament sought to eliminate foreign competition by passing an act in 1721 that required colonists to import their tea only from Great Britain and the East India Company. Because Parliament heavily taxed this tea and charged the East India company tarrifs, both Britons and British Americans found that it was much cheaper to buy smuggled tea, which usually came from Dutch sources. The biggest market for smuggled tea was England, but tea was also smuggled into the colonies to a lesser extent. Tea Act 1773 In response to this, the British government passed the Tea Act, which allowed the East India Company to sell tea to the colonies directly, paying the much lower American duty. This tax break allowed the East India Company to sell tea for half the old price and cheaper than the price of tea in England, enabling them to undercut the prices offered by the colonial

I did find some good articles, but they were nothing compared to this man. So when i started browsing through the internet I was surprised by how many popped up. Since the concert, I'd bought one of his CD's and really admired that, but I had never thought he'd be this famous. Many magazines around the Europe, and of course Russia, have written about him, so at first I had trouble finding articles in English. But in no time I found his web page and used sources from there. Life in Estonia through the eyes of an economics student

Through my entire life I have seen Estonia as a strong and fast growing country which is also a fact because Estonian economy was one of the fastest growing in the world until 2006 with growth rates even exceeding 10% annually. I find it being quite impressive. There are some fields which Estonia can fill with supplies by itself. We are nearly energy independent country, supplying over 90% of our electricity need with locally mined oil shale. Estonia has also an alternative energy sources such as wood and peat. I could call myself earth friendly because I love walking around the forest and breading some fresh air but I do not like the knowing that somewhere else our own people are cutting down the trees and mining oil shale for eleritcity and warmth but I know that we need those two things to survive and it does not make any different if we cut the trees in Estonia or in Finland. There are some sacrifices people need to make to live on.

outside the solar system. The magnetic fields of the Galaxy, the solar system, and the Earth have scrambled the flight paths of these particles so much that we can no longer point back to their sources in the Galaxy. If you made a map of the sky with cosmic ray intensities, it would be completely uniform. So we have to determine where cosmic rays come from by indirect means. One of the indirect observations we can make is the "composition" of GCRs. This can tell us a lot about the GCR sources and the cosmic rays' trip through the Galaxy. The "composition" of cosmic rays describes what fraction of cosmic rays are protons, what fraction are helium nuclei, etc. All of the natural elementsin the periodic table are present in cosmic rays, in roughly the same proportion as they occur in the solar system. But detailed differences provide a "fingerprint" of the cosmic ray's source. Measuring the quantity of each different element is relatively easy, since the different

The value of things VS the price of things

chipped in for a clinical trial? And how are you paying for that air you're breathing right now? Some benefits are assumed to be part of the environment in which we exist. That's what it means to have an environment. If a benefit grows scarce to the point that people feel they must directly pay cash from their pocket to keep getting it, there's probably a far more dire calamity at hand than that single point of scarcity. Most people will almost always seek other free sources of a benefit first. The price of things is usually affected by it’s value. Since many people assume that higher priced items are better, they value the lower priced items less. I know many people who assume that a freeware program is inferior to a similar commercial program just because it's free. From time to time, things actually have no value, if you think about it. It’s the activity you want to do with it. An good example is that people buy a drill bit. They actually don’t want

Loobuti taktimõõtudest ja piiritletud vormidest. Hakati Proovima juhuslikke kooskõlasid, mida võis võrrelda eredate värvilaikudega abstraktsel maalil. Kuigi selline mängimisviis ärritas harjumuspärase jazzi pooldajaid. Kujunes 1960. aastate keskpaigaks kindel grupp selle suuna esindajaid. Üheks tuntuimaks free jazzi esindajaks peetakse saksofonisti Archie Shepp kellest räägin ka lähemalt. Archie Shepp sündis Fort Lauderdaleis Floridas 24 mail 1937. Aga ta kasvas üles Philadelphias ja Pennsylvanias kus ta õppis mängim...

As a result of the erosion and ruin of properties by large storms on coastal lands, governments have looked into buying land and having residents relocate further inland. How to help prevent global warming GREEN JOBS AND CLEAN ENERGY Choose renewable energy. Pick a Green-e-certified energy supplier that generates at least half of its power from wind, solar energy and other clean sources. If you don't have that option, look at your current electricity bill to see if you are able to support renewable energy in another way. DRIVE SMARTER CARS Choose an efficient vehicle: High-mileage cars such as hybrids and plug-in hybrids use less gas and save money. Over its lifetime, a 40-mpg car will save roughly $3,000 in fuel costs compared with a 20-mpg car. Compare fuel economy performance before you buy. Drive smart

Illegal Immigration in America - essee

Illegal Immigration in America Essay Often the United States is referred to as the land of opportunity. No wonder a lot of people want to experience it – in fact a survey found out that about 165 million adults worldwide would immigrate to the United States if they had the opportunity. Unfortunately not everyone who decides to live in America does it legally and that’s where the problems begin. Illegal immigration is not a new issue in the United States. Wave-energy

A typical wavelength of deep water waves is about 156.1 meter. Please calculate the maximum power output by a point absorber using the surging technology. The power of the waves is about 6.7 kW per meter of crest length. 14 Technologies to convert wave energy There is a wide range of technologies converting the energy of waves into electric energy. Harvesting wave energy enables an engineer to use different physical principles to generate the target energy. More than in all other energy sources for regenerative power engineering. Tapered channel (Tapchan) The Tapchan concept is one of the oldest wave harvesting technologies to generate electric energy. Tapchan is the acronym for TAPered CHANnel. This power plant uses the kinetic energy of the waves reaching the shores. The principle behind is, that an incoming wave flows over a tapered channel of concrete into a a higher basin. The tapering is used to enlarge the velocity of the water flow following the continuity equation

English history

The Fall of the Empire The fall of the British Empire was caused by World War II for two reasons. Firstly, many nations felt that their sacrifice should be rewarded with independence, for example India. Also, the losses to the Japanese destroyed the myth of the European omnipotence. Secondly, heavily in debt to the United States, the United Kingdom was financially exhausted. This left it almost impossible to defend its wider colonies by force. So the vast markets were opened to American companies and to weaken the UK in general. No empire has been larger or more diverse than the British Empire. At its apogee in the 1930s, 42 million Britons governed 500 million foreign subjects. Britannia ruled the waves, and a quarter of the earth's surface was coloured red on the map. Where Britain's writ did not run directly, its influence, sustained by matchless industrial and commercial sinews, was often paramoun...

Most of the lakes lie in the volcanic plateu of the North Island and in glacial valleys near the Southern Alps of the South Isaland. On both islands the rivers rise in the mountains and flow down to the sea. The rapid flow of New Zealand's rivers makes them important sources of hydroelectric power. New Zealand has hundreds of waterfalls. Sutherland falls on the South Island is the fifth highest waterfall in he world.
