The Price of Everlasting Youth

It became easier and easier for him to sin, because he always had a defensive line he does not have a soul. At first he wanted to be a greatness to others, but later he did not care about the oppinion of others at all. He was just so obsessed with his youth. He did everything he had to do, to stay forever young. For example, one night when Basil arrives to question Dorian about rumours of his indulgences, Dorian takes Basil to the portrait upstairs. The portrait is hideous as Dorian's sins. In anger, Dorian blames Basil for his fate and stabs him to death. Dorians is also the reason, why his first love, a very beautiful and talented actress named Sibyl Vane kills herself. The need to be different, superior to others, gets Dorian eventually killed. He wants to redeem his sins. Unfortunately, he lacks the feeling of quilt and fearing the consequences, he goes out for the painting the only conscienceness he has (since the painting hides all his sins)

It is better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven

honor the God anyway. If you have lived your life like God would have wanted you to live and you already are in heaven then it is better to serve in heaven. You have lived for God. You have sacrificed and done everything for being accepted there. If you really believe that Heaven is the place where you want to be then you must follow the right lifestyle, because you do not want to be in a place where you are not wanted. However there are people who go to hell for spiteful sins. Some people don't even care what effect their action has on somebody else. Those people can't even rule in Hell, they must serve there. Yet, people who just do what is best for them and for their natives are good enough to rule in Hell. I think that every person has a right to decide what the best option for them is. They have a variety of pick and I am sure that they will pick the right one.

where no one but him has access to. As time goes by, he becomes more infected by the ideas of Henry, but he loses control over his behaviour and his reputation in public decreases. This grows concern in Basil, who has deep feelings for Dorian and Basil tries to put some sense into the boy's mind. After Dorian had killed Basil, the same coldness and indifference, which had been there after Sibyl's suicide, appear again. All the sins that Dorian makes reveal themselves on the portrait. He keeps the door locked, but sometimes goes to see what he really has become. The picture that he sees is so horrifying that ultimately he hates it so much that throws a knife into the heart of the Dorian in the picture. After death the portrait turns back to original and the body could only be recognized by the rings that Dorian wore. The price that Dorian paid for his long-lasting youth was too high. I would never wish

The Picture of Dorian Gray

When Sibyls acting suffers from the love she feels for Dorian. Dorian rejects her, and when he returns home he sees his portrait has changed, but he hasn't. When Dorian tries to reconcile with Sibyl, he finds out that the girl has killed herself. Dorian realizes that passion and looks are where his life is headed and he needs nothing else. He continues this life for 18 years. When Basil questions Dorian about his wrong doings, he shows Basil the portrait, which is as hideous as Dorian's sins. Dorian blames Basil for everything and stabs Basil. In Deciding that only full confession will free him of his guilt. In a rage, he picks up the knife that killed Basil Hallward and stabs it into the painting. His servants wake up caused by a scream inside a locked room. The servants find Dorian's body, killed by being stabbed to the heart and suddenly aged, old and ugly. It is only by the rings on his hand that the corpse can be identified. Beside him,

They believe the timee of Qiyamah is preordained by God but unkown to man. The trials and tribulations preceding and during the Qiyamah are described in the Koran and the hadith, and also in the commentaries of scholars. The Koran emphazises bodily resurecction, a break from the pre-Islamic Arabian understanding of death. On Yawm al-Qiyamah, Muslims believe all mankind will be judged on their good and bad deeds. The Koran lists several sins that can condemn a person to hell, such as disbelief in God, and dishonesty, however, the Koran makes it clear God will forgive the sins of those who repent if he so wills. Good deeds, such as charity, prayer and compassion towards animals, will be rewarded with entry to heaven. For Muslims is heaven a place of joy and bliss, with Koranic references describing its features and the physical plesarues to come.

The cross, which was otherwise attached to the wall in the northern part of the altar, was now standing in the middle of the altar without any support. The cross was still there during the writing of the letter in January 1354. Pilgrims started to flow to Vastseliina both from Livonia and Germany after what happened and many who were blind and deaf had their sight and hearing restored. The Archbishop of Livonia asked the Pope in his letter for forgiveness of sins to the visitors of the chapel, giving the following reason for his request: the growth in the number of pilgrims would provide funds for the extension of the chapel in the borderlands of Christendom. So the visitors of Vastseliina were granted a forty-day indulgence. Pope Eugene renewed the indulgence in 1342. There are records of pilgrimages to the chapel in the 15th and 16th centuries. In the first century of its existence the castle was not involved in much military action.

industry, known for continuous reissue of regulations upon the standards to which cockpit and other human-operable equipment should conform after any major accident where "human error" has been detected. They do recognize that the actual fault is with the machinery and that it should have been "designed for error" in the first place. "To err is human" Norman states, and I wholeheartedly agree. Norman, quite interestingly, goes as far as to absolve some designers of their sins, at least partially, demonstrating a great deal of common sense in doing so. The fault is often with the industry, with the society and with the unbending bureaucracy and inertia of the whole civilized mechanism - those are the reasons why feedback chain is virtually non-existent as new generations of product are already under development when the previous ones hit the shelves, people demanding new trinkets ASAP and having a tendency to overestimate the value of multitude of functions, dated

As part of the Jewish ritual of Atonement(lunastus), two goats are selected, one to be sacrificed and the other to be released into the wilderness to atone for the sins of the community. The goat depicted Jesus. During the process of creating this painting Hunt found a goat near the Dead Sea and studied and painted it for a long time. Another popular dish is ozni (?), a soup with omochi (?) and other ingredients that differ based on various regions of Japan. Today, sashimi and sushi are often eaten, as well as non-Japanese foods. To let the overworked stomach rest, seven-herb rice soup (, nanakusa-gayu?) is prepared on the seventh day of January, a day known as jinjitsu (?). Bell ringing At midnight on December 31, Buddhist temples all over Japan ring their bells a 108 times to symbolize the 108 human sins in Buddhist belief, and to get rid of the 108 worldly desires regarding sense and feeling in every Japanese citizen. A major attraction is The Watched Night bell, in Tokyo. Japanese believe that the ringing of bells can rid off their sins during the previous year. The Qur'an emphasizes bodily resurrection, a break from the preIslamic Arabian understanding of death. Muslims view paradise (jannah) as a place of joy and bliss, with Qur'anic references describing its features and the physical pleasures to come. There are also references to a greater joy--acceptance by God (ridwn). Mystical traditions in Islam place these heavenly delights in the context of an ecstatic awareness of God.

Modern mosques have evolved greatly from the early designs of the 7th century, and contain a variety of architectural elements such as minarets. 3) Fasting Fasting, called "Sawm", from food and drink (among other things) must be performed from dawn to dusk during the month of Ramadhan. The fast is to encourage a feeling of nearness to God, and during it Muslims should express their gratitude for and dependence on him, atone for their past sins, and think of the needy. Sawm is not obligatory for several groups for whom it would constitute an undue burden. For others, flexibility is allowed depending on circumstances, but missed fasts usually must be made up quickly. 3) Alms-Giving "Zakt" is giving a fixed portion of accumulated wealth by those who can afford it to help the poor or needy, and also to assist the spread of Islam. " Dimmesdale refuses. Hester convinces him to run away with her and Pearl and he accepts. After he delivers his final sermon he runs over to the scaffold finnally admits what he has done and dies. Overall he is punished much greater than he is rewarded. Hester Prynne commits the biggest sin of the book, for which she is caught. We can only speculate what would have happened if she didn't confess and wasn't caught. However there were sins she committed that she didn't confess. First, she didn't tell who her accomplice was in committing adultery. For not confessing this she is rewarded and punished. She is rewarded by keeping Dimmesdale as a freind and a confidant. She is punished however by having to watch her husband, posing as Roger Chillingworth slowly kill Dimmesdale. Her decision to not tell who the father of Pearl was may or may not have been the best move. Perhaps if they knew who the father was they would have

The Medium Is the Message

latest approach to media study considers not only the "content" but the medium and the cultural matrix within which the particular medium operates. The older unawareness of the psychic and social effects of media can be illustrated from almost any of the conventional pronouncements.-- In accepting an honorary degree from the University of Notre Dame a few years ago, General David Sarnoff made this statement: "We are too prone to make technological instruments the scapegoats for the sins of those who wield them. The products of modern science are not in themselves good or bad; it is the way they are used that determines their value." That is the voice of the current somnambulism. Suppose we were to say, "Apple pie is in itself neither good nor bad; it is the way it is used that determines its value." Or, "The smallpox virus is in itself neither good nor bad; it is the way it is used that determines its value." Again, "Firearms

The Witch Trials in Salem

hunt gained force. In 1307 the trial of the Knights Templar shows close parallels to accusations of witchcraft, maleficium, and sorcery and may have been the beginning of the great European witch- hunt. Other rulers such as King Coloman of Hungary declared that witch-hunts should cease because witches do not exist. The Crimes of the Witches Undoubtedly, over the centuries of witch hunting, the charge of ,,witchcraft" came to cover a multitude of sins ranging from political subversion and religious heresy to lewdness and blasphemy. But three central accusations emerge repeatedly in history of witchcraft throughout northern Europe: First, witches are accused of every conceivable sexual crime against men. Quite simply, they are ,,accused" of female sexuality. Second, they are accused of being organized. Third, they are accused of häving magical powers affecting health of harming, but also of healing. They were often charged

THE CAPITALIST NIGER

THE CAPITALIST NIGER Chika Onyeani ………………………Every African must internalise this book - period….DAA INTRODUCTION In October 1960, Nigeria received its independence from Britain. By then, Ghana the former Gold Coast had been independent for three years under the great Osagyefo Kwame Nkumah. It was a time for celebrating Africa’s coming of age, as more and more African countries received their independence either from Britain or France. It was especially a poignant time for Africa, as then British Prime Minister Harold McMillan articulated his now famous “winds of change” sweeping Africa. We had high hopes for Africa, for the Black race, that the insidious imposition of foreign rule on us, the looting of Africa’s natural resources by our colonial masters accorded us would be things of history. That is more than forty years ago. Unfortunately, the promise of independence has not been fulfilled. Today, Africa has become more desolate; th...

William Shakespeare - Hamlet

No traveller returns, puzzles the will And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we know not of? Thus conscience does make cowards of us all; And thus the native hue of resolution Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought, And enterprises of great pith and moment With this regard their currents turn awry, And lose the name of action.—Soft you now! 86 The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons Be all my sins remember'd. OPHELIA Good my lord, How does your honour for this many a day? HAMLET I humbly thank you; well, well, well. OPHELIA My lord, I have remembrances of yours, That I have longed long to re-deliver; I pray you, now receive them. HAMLET No, not I; I never gave you aught. OPHELIA My honour'd lord, you know right well you did; And, with them, words of so sweet breath composed As made the things more rich: their perfume lost, Take these again; for to the noble mind

Christopher Vogler The Writers Journey

It's part of restoring balance to the world of the story, giving a sense of completion. It's like getting your grades after final exams. Villains should earn their ultimate fate by their evil deeds and they should not get off too easily. Audiences hate that. Punishment should fit the crime and have the quality of poetic justice. In other words, the way the villain dies or gets his just comeuppance should directly relate to his sins. Heroes should get what's coming to them as well. Too many movie heroes get rewards they haven't really earned. T h e reward should be proportionate to the sacrifice they have offered. You don't get immortality for being nice. Also if heroes have failed to learn a lesson, they may be penalized for it in the Return. O f course, if your dramatic point of view is that life isn't fair and you feel
