Sustainability aspects of biofuels

and water consumption will be also considered as they are essential aspects in the biofuels sustainability criteria. The review will discuss the viability of biofuels based on the current technologies. Second-generation biofuels are not yet commercially viable and therefore will not be discussed; although they could significantly improve the sustainability of biofuels when they break through to the industrial scale. 2. The scale of biofuels production 2.1. Drivers of biofuels production Lal (2010) stated that "three inter-connected challenges face humankind in the 21st century": food security, climate change, and energy security. The world population is projected to reach 9 billion in 2050, posing more demands on energy, food, and other natural resources. It has been estimated that the world food production needs to double and meat production increase

The cost of production

· The supply function would be perfectly inelastic in this case. The Long Run The long run is a period of time where: technology is constant All inputs are variable Long run period is a series of short run periods. · For each short run period there is a set of TP, AP, MP, MC, AFC, AVC, ATC, TC, TVC & TFC for each possible scale of plant Economies and Diseconomies of Scale Economies of scale, in microeconomics, are the cost advantages that a business obtains due to expansion. They are factors that cause a producer's average cost per unit to fall as scale is increased. Economies of scale is a long run concept and refers to reductions in unit cost as the size of a facility, or scale, increases. There are two typical ways to achieve economies of scale: - High fixed cost and constant marginal cost - Low or no fixed cost and declining marginal cost

Universaalindikaatori värviskaala

Acidic solution Stays red Turns red Neutral solution Stays red Stays blue Alkaline solution Turns blue Stays blue Notice how we say 'stays red' or 'turns red'. This is better than saying 'nothing' or 'stayed the same', because it tells us what we actually see. Universal indicator and the pH scale Universal indicator is a mixture of several different indicators. It has many different colour changes. Unlike litmus, universal indicator can show us how strongly acidic or alkaline a solution is, and its pH. The pH scale runs from pH 0 to pH 14. These are the important points about the pH scale: · neutral solutions are pH 7 exactly · acidic solutions have pH values less than 7 · alkaline solutions have pH values more than 7

Henry Moore

His forms are generally pierced or contain hollow spaces. Many translators liken the wavy form of his lying figures to the landscape and hills of his birthplace, Yorkshire. Moore made many preparatory sketches and drawings for each sculpture. Most of these sketchbooks have survived and provide insight into Moore's development. He placed great importance on drawing; even when he had arthritis, he still was able to draw. After the Second World War, Moore's bronzes took on their larger scale, which was particularly suited for public art commissions. As a matter of practicality, he largely abandoned direct carving, and took on several assistants to help produce maquettes. By the end of the 1940s, he produced sculptures increasingly by modelling, working out the shape in clay or plaster before casting the final work in bronze using the lost wax technique. At his home in Much Hadham, Moore built up a collection of natural objects; skulls,

Acid rain

Wet deposition is any form of precipitation that removes acids from the atmosphere and deposits them on the Earth's surface. Dry deposition polluting particles and gases stick to the ground via dust and smoke in the absence of precipitation. This form of deposition is dangerous however because precipitation can eventually wash pollutants into streams, lakes, and rivers. Acidity itself is determined based on the pH level of the water droplets. PH is the scale measuring the amount of acid in the water and liquid. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14 with lower pH being more acidic while a high pH is alkaline; seven is neutral. Normal rain water is slightly acidic and has a pH range of 5.3-6.0. Acid deposition is anything below that scale. It is also important to note that the pH scale is logarithmic and each whole number on the scale represents a 10-fold change. Broadway

Broadway Broadway is a street in the U.S. state of New York. It is the oldest northsouth main thoroughfare in New York City, dating to the first New Amsterdam settlement. The name Broadway is the English literal translation of the Dutch name, Breede weg. Broadway is known worldwide as the heart of the American theatre industry. One famous stretch near Times Square, where Broadway crosses Seventh Avenue in midtown Manhattan, is the home of many Broadway theatres, housing an ever-changing array of commercial, large- scale plays, particularly musicals. Canyon of Heroes is occasionally used to refer to the section of lower Broadway in the Financial District that is the location of the city's ticker-tape parades. Argumentative presentation: Estonia does need a nuclear power station

Estonia's coal based power generation is becoming obsolete in the near future. The question arises : "Where will the future generations get the energy that they need?". First of all, in the current year, the power consumption reached the highest of all tomes in February. Most of the energy shortage was covered by energy brought from Lithuania. Energy was produced there from gas imported from Russia. That is not a reliable source of energy that can scale. In addition, Estonia does not have an adequate electricity grid network with neighboring countries. Therefore, there are no means to cover local demand with the current resources. Second of all, the problem with most renewables is that it does not scale well. Furthermore they do not have constant output sources of energy. They only supplement the existing systems. The biggest problem is the the increasing cost, if the most optimal places are taken.

Then British Airways showed an interest and became a partner. A design, construction and logistics challenge Soon, everyone realised the sheer scale of what they were attempting. It would be the largest observation wheel ever built and the only cantilevered structure of its kind in the world. It would also be the largest structure ever hoisted into a vertical position in one operation. Over 1,700 people in five countries would be involved in building it. The population of an entire alpine village would test the embarkation procedures. Almost every component and construction technique would have to be invented from scratch

Overfishing

: Overfishing can be defined in a number of ways. However, everything comes down to one simple point: Catching too much fish for the system to support leads to an overall degradation (degrödašon) to the system. Overfishing is a non-sustainable use of the oceans. WHAT IS CAUSING OVERFISHING?: Worldwide, fishing fleets are two to three times as large as needed to take present day catches of fish and other marine species (spiišis) and as what our oceans can sustainably support. On a global scale we have enough fishing capacity (cäpaseti) to cover at least four Earth like planets. On top of the overcapacity many fishing methods (methouds) are unsustainable in their own way. These methods have a large impact on the basic functioning of our marine ecosystems (ikousistem). These unselective fishing practices and gear cause tremendous destruction on non target (taaged) species. Bycatch and discards and bottom trawling destruction are two examples of this. WHY IS OVERFISHING A PROBLEM

1. How can we help bring about a change in behavior? * Renewable energy is the sun and the water that people use, but not yet so widely. Required on all homes, various stations, hypermarkets solar panels to use the potential energy, the stock of which is not completed within 5 billion years. * Renewable sources such as wind and solar are intrinsically unsuited to meeting the demand for continuous, reliable supply on a large scale – which comprises most demand in developed countries. The criteria for any acceptable energy supply will continue to be cost, safety, and security of supply, as well as environmental considerations. 2. How can we encourage sustainable development? * To encourage you in the following way. To allocate money for the construction of such stations to States that are unable to pay for expensive power plants. Permanent sponsorship of these stations and verification.

in between people and tourism, however it can never be reached. Criteria's to reach positive sustainability are as follows: Firstly, usage of goods and services must be limited, long term thinking towards future 10 till 20 years ahead (Sustaining Tourism, 2013). For example, Mowforth and Munt (2009) are suggesting that, Belize agreed to avoid the negative outside impacts, foreign mass tourism industry impacts and large scale tourism development under control. This shows that Belize is thinking ahead, because it is a new destination to mass tourism. Secondly, Ritchie and Crouch (2003) and About Sustainable Tourism (2013) are suggesting that one key parts of sustainable tourism is supporting local communities, ensuring that money that comes from tourism, will go to local businesses. PIRACY

PIRACY Life of the 21th century is getting more and more expensive. People can't afford themselves that kind of entertainment that they did at the end of 20th century. Because of that there are a lot of piracy in that world and I think that it is one of the biggest crime of nowadays technological ear. Piracy is a form of theft. Morden technology has made wide-scale trading of music possible in the form of MP3 files available over the internet for free, all at the click of a mouse. We have to consider that not everything on the internet is legal. Sharing and downloading music and films is most of the time illegal, but everyone thinks that ,,if everyone is doing it and not getting in trouble, then it must be ok." Some of people thinks that illegal file sharing even helps the music industry. Before you are downloading or sharing some files that you don't own, you should fi...

Environmental problems

Air pollution is also drastically reduced by conserving energy. It is the little things, like switching off fans and lights when you are not at home. Electricity causes the burning of large amounts of fossil fuels, which in turn pollute the air. Solar power is a fantastic solution. Now that solar radiation is at a climactic peak, we can reap power from the sun using solar panel systems. These range from home systems to larger scale systems powering entire communities and cities. 2. Deforestation. While individuals can rarely have a personal impact on the deforestation rate, there are other things you can do. Discourage deforestation and thus environmental degradation by reusing plastic and paper bags and packaging. Support eco-friendly businesses and buy products that are either recyclable or have a longer durability. 3. Ozone layer depletion

Teaching the Vocabulary of the Text

Teaching the Vocabulary of the Text The Summary is based on the text taken from the Journal `The News letter' written by David Cranmer. Principal among the reasons is the obvious one that once the extensive context is understood, it is easier to concentrate on the detail of individual words. Large-scale vocabulary building is, in general terms, therefore better done after the text has been presented. (Cranmer 1986:60) Another important reason is that it is possible at this stage to exploit the new lexis in its own right, not just as a means comprehension, If we are to bring new vocabulary into active use and not just passive understanding, it is not sufficient for us just to teach it. It should be done in a way, so that teachers should be sure that it is learnt and used. If the words are taught after the target text, then the meaning of the words will be more understandable. In this case, the `matching' is...

Hue Saturation Brightness

HSB: hue, saturation, and brightness This scheme provides a device-independent way to describe color. HSB may be the most complex scheme to visualize, especially since color selection software has to reduce its three descriptive dimensions to two dimensions on the monitor screen. But once learned, it can be useful in many instances. The easiest way to visualize this scheme is to think of the H, S, and B values representing points within an upside-down cone. At the edge of the cone base, think of the visible light spectrum (preceeding page), cut from the page and pasted into a circle with shading added to smooth the transition between the (now joined) red and magenta ends. · Hue is the actual color. It is measured in angular degrees around the cone starting and endin...

Tourism a threat to the environment?

in wild. Tourism has a negative impact to environment if a large number of events are organized in a inappropriate sites. Usually people throw garbage and empty packages down when they stay overnight or just party. In addition too many people on one land may damage the plants under their feet. Besides nature decorative effects it also changes the economic situation of this place. Develop new jobs and increasing the purchasing power and scale of living. When increase peoples purchasing power increases as well as local municipal tax resulting from revenues. Wich leads to that parish can spend more money to social works. which make up most of its diet. Although most polar bears are born on land, they spend most of their time at sea. Their scientific name means "maritime bear, and derives from this fact. Polar bears can hunt their preferred food of seals from the edge of sea ice, often living off fat reserves when no sea ice is present. The polar bear is classified as a vulnerable species, with eight of the nineteen polar bear subpopulations in decline.[6] For decades, large scale hunting raised international concern for the future of the species but populations rebounded after controls and quotas began to take effect.[citation needed] For thousands of years, the polar bear has been a key figure in the material, spiritual, and cultural life of Arctic indigenous peoples, and polar bears remain important in their cultures.

Kujutlus linnast 1. peatükk

kahepoolse protsessi tulemus, ning et kujutlus võib oluliselt varieeruda sõltuvalt vaatlejast. Tõenäosus sarnase kujutluse tekkimisest on suurem sarnaste omadustega ( näiteks sugu, vanus, kultuuriline taust) gruppides. Esimese peatüki lõpus selgitatakse muutust ajaloos keskkonna tajumises ja tuuakse välja tänapäeva maastikukujundajate eesmärk. THE IMAGE OF THE ENVIRONMENT The city is a construction in space, but one of vast scale, a thing perceived only in the course of long spans of time. Nothing is experienced by itself, but always in relation to its surroundings, the sequences of events leading up to it, the memory of past experiences. Moving elements in a city, and in particular the people and their activities, are as important as the stationary physical parts. We are not simply observers of this spectacle, but are ourselves a part of it, on the stage with the other participants

Floods and Tsunamis

A tsunami (pronounced sue-nahm-ee) is a series of huge waves that can cause great devastation and loss of life when they strike a coast. Tsunamis are caused by an underwater earthquake, a volcanic eruption, an sub-marine rockslide, or, more rarely, by an asteroid or meteoroid crashing into in the water from space. Most tsunamis are caused by underwater earthquakes, but not all underwater earthquakes cause tsunamis - an earthquake has to be over about magnitude 6.75 on the Richter scale for it to cause a tsunami. About 90 percent of all tsunamis occur in the Pacific Ocean. Many tsunamis could be detected before they hit land, and the loss of life could be minimized, with the use of modern technology, including seismographs (which detect earthquakes), computerized offshore buoys that can measure changes in wave height, and a system of sirens on the beach to alert people of potential tsunami danger.

Sissejuhatus sotsioloogiasse, vaheeksami konspekt

Seletage lahti kolm sotsiaaluuringute uurimistasandit. . Mesosociology deals with analyses of concepts like stratification by income, age, gender, race, ethnicity; organizations (functionally circumscribed social structures) and communities (geographically circumscribed social structures). As such, mesosociology lies between analysis of large-scale macro forces such as the economy or human societies (which is a domain of macrosociology), and everyday human social interactions on a small scale (a domain of microsociology). KOKKUVÕTE: Grigori Rasputin

Rasputin jäi aga ellu. Nüüdsest uskusid tema austajad veelgi enam tema pühalikkust. 30. detsember 1916. tapeti Rasputin.
