Millennium Bridge

It was to be a part of the city's millennium celebration. During the first two days after opening the bridge, thousands who had crossed the bridge noticed that the bridge seemed to wobble. Because of that the bridge was closed for modifications 3 days after opening. It was reopened in February 2002. Construction of the bridge began in late 1998 and was completed in June 2000, about 2 months behind schedule. Total cost was 30 million euros. It can carry up to 5,000 people at the same time. DESIGN The design was a subject of a competition organized in 1996. The winning entry was an innovative effort from Arup, Foster and Partners and Sir Anthony Caro. Retell Global Warming

its history. Once, all climate change occurred naturally, but recently, people have also started altering the climate. We are sending more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The average global temperature has increased by about 0.5 °C over the past century. Scientist expect it to increase up to an additional 3 °C over the next on 100 years. People who are living in cold places may have a chance to grow new crops if the climate gets warmer. At the same time in some parts of the world, people won't be able to grow the food they need. Global warming will make the sea level higher because it'll make the glaciers melt. When water expands in the ocean, it takes up more space and the level of the seas rise. If global warming gets worse, some kinds of plants and animals will become extinct. So as a result we have to slow down the global warming.

Etymological doublets are two or more words of the same lan¬guage which were derived by different routes from the same basic word, but differing in meaning and phonemic shape. For example, the word 'fact' ('факт, действительность') and 'feat' ('подвиг') are derived from the same Latin word 'facere' ('делать') but 'fact' was borrowed directly from Latin and 'feat' was borrowed through French. In modern English there are doublets of Latin, Germanic and na¬tive origin

There are many different ways to acquire education. In general, all children should receive the same education. However, many parents cannot afford to send their children to a private school. I think it is unequal, because some parents do not have enough money. So, what are the advantages and disadvantages of state and private schools. Firstly, there are many different facilities in private schools. For example, there are swimming pools, skating rinks, libraries, etc. I have heard that one school has its own drama class. anthem. Maples Cottage is a historic cottage in Westborough, Massachusetts. "Northwest Passage" is one of the best-known songs by Canadian musician Stan Rogers. An a cappella song. While it recalls the history of early explorers who were trying to discover a route across Canada to the Pacific Ocean , its central theme is a comparison between the journeys of these past explorers and the singer's own journey to and through the same region. O Canada is the national anthem of Canada. The song was originally commissioned by the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec. The French "Ô Canada" was first performed on June 24, 1880, at a Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day banquet in Quebec City, but did not become Canada's official national anthem until July 1, 1980. The Canadian government bought the rights to the lyrics and music for only one dollar. The lyrics to "Ô Canada! mon pays, mes amours", a French-Canadian song, were

Music influences our mood in all kinds of infinite ways. Music is outlet for my feelings. I can't find one song that doesn't remind me someone or something i've been went through. Music is all around me and influences my feelings and sometimes my opinions as well. It brings me up when I'm down and it also brings a smile on my face. I can't imagine a life in silence without radio, music videos and probably without movies either because a movie without music is an authentic. Life is not the same without it. In conclusion I can't imagine a world without music, but in fact it is impossible to imagine things that are possible. There will always be music in the world, so there is no way to imagine what it would be without it.

even violent movies where they can see crime and investigation. I think a good movie has to be true-to-life and stunning. I especially love movies that surprise me. A superb movie has to be educative it has to let me know about something new. The best movies have professional actors. Without great actors and actresses, the movies are not so stunning. They need to make the movies seem real and original. People don't think the same way. We have different opinions, so not everyone like the movies that I enjoy watching. Nevertheless a movie has to be fascinating and gripping to make me enjoy it.

The perfect place to live

The Perfect Place to Live For me, I think I am already living in a perfect place, Estonia. I would not want to live somewhere else because I think Estonia has everything what a perfect place should have. Many people who live in Estonia are dreaming of a home in a warmer place. There are many reasons why I would not want to live there. One reason is that the weather stays excactly the same every day but in Estonia we have different seasons. Furthermore why I like living in Estonia is that the nature is amazing and if I am very tired I could just go 10 kilometers out of the city and I would be in pure nature, but in China it would be impossible. I am happy about my life in Estonia. I cannot imagine a better place to live. I am never going to move a different country to live because I love Estonia and this is the perfect place I would want to live.

Stress of the Young people Today

Stress of the Young people Today I think every young people have been faced with stress, like feeling exhausted or undrer excessive pressure. It may cause a desire to run far away from problems just because couldn't cope with it. The main thing in school age peoples what causes stress is probably school. Teachers are giving too much homeworks for not thinking that them subject is the most important. Also about half tests in one period is in the same week. The second thing I bring up is lack of funding. For young people is important hang out with friends, going to the cinema, shopping or just käia kuskil trennis. Everything costs nowadays, but if you don't have money, it causes more stress. Thirdly some young people, especially teenagers, don't get on with their family. They find that everything parents doesn't let them be independent. Some young people's parents are divorced or are drinkers. I have also felt stressed sometimes

Learning English by computer

Learning english by computer Learning english by computer is a really good way to evolve your skills at home. There are positive and negative sides of learning english by computer. In my opinion are there more positive sides. I think that it would be more easier when you can study whatever time you want. When you are studying by computer then you abstain from conflicts with teacher. If you have your own computer then you can study at home and at the same time lie around, eat, listen to music, etc. I think that it would be cheaper and acceptable too. When you are studying english by computer then you don't have to think about your pronunciation. In my opinion is there only few bad sides. For example when you are studying at home then there's no discipline and you don't knuckle down. In my opinion is learning english by computer better way to improve your skills. I think that some day is learning english by computer usual way.

Topic - Libraries

The first libraries were only partly libraries, being composed for the most part of unpublished records which are usually viewed as archives, not libraries. Findings from the citystates of Sumer have revealsed temple rooms full of clay tablets. Those archives were made up almost completely of the records of commercial transactions or inventories with only a few documents touching historical records or legends. Things were pretty same in temple records on papyrus in Ancient Egypt. The earliest discovered private archives were kept at Ugarit (which is located in today's Syria). Besides inventories, texts of myths may have been standardized for teaching new scribes. Private or personal libraries made up of nonfiction and fiction books first appeared in Greece. The first ones appeared some time near the 5th Century BC. Libraries were filled with parchment and papyrus scrolls. There were a

If I were the misiter on education

I would make school food free for all students because at the moment it is quite expensive. Because of that some students can not afford to eat at school but schooldays are long and it is unhealthy to go all day without eating. School buffet's offer unhealthy chips and pies but very little healthy vegetables and fruits so I would make buffets healthier. Secondly, I believe that it would make classes more effective to watch different educational movies. Doing the same thing from day to day is simply boring and some variety would surely increase students' interest in class. The third thing I would do to spice up life at school is organizing more fieldtrips. There are many different cultural and historical exhibits and museums kids may never visit unless they skip classes to do so. To sum up, I would say that although the Minister of Education could change a lot, our school life today is pretty good.

They might suffer under lack of different resources for example financial and material crisis. However, if the company overcomes the recession, it gains an invaluable experience how to withstand crisis situations and how to cut balances, even though it might have come with certain sacrifices such as firing workers. In conclusion the recession could be a sort of a wake-up call to humanity to keep eyes on their spending and credit card balances and the same comes with companies a low tide is a positive side, if only one learns from it.

probably to it again. Because killer`s point of view does not change. Finally it would reassure the people close to the victim it would not happen again. Also it gives them the feeling that the death has been avenged. A family will feel less pain if the killer dies. In my opinion capital punishment should not be abolished, because if someone has committed a major crime such as rape, torture or murder deserves basically the same. I think we should use this policy: an eye for an eye tooth for a tooth.

Koalas

Today this animal is under the protection but they still are in danger. Koalas from the northern populations are typically smaller and lighter in colour than the other. Most of their food consists of eucalypt leaves but sometimes they eat other leaves too. There is about 600 species of eucalypt, koalas eat only 30. Because they get so little energy from their diet, koalas must limit their energy use and sleep 20 hours a day. They typically eat and sleep in the same tree. On very hot days a koala may climb down to the coolest part of the tree which is colder than the surrounding air. The koala will hug the tree to lose heat. Koalas are asocial animals and spend just 15 minutes a day on social activity.

"Pros and Cons of state education"

The Pros and Cons of State Education Most of the people in Estonia receive state education. Estonian schools have been laid down in the National Curriculum. So you get the same education from any of the state schoole. Firstly, I'd like to say that the main problem is that the curriculum is too rigid. Although this gives all the students a fair change of getting a good and even better education, it doesn't take into consideration that some children just can't cope with all that knowledge. This makes the students restless and that leads to bad behaviour. Secondly, we can say that the education you get in Estonia is

Charles Darwin

other factors applied, such as the strong, the courageous, or the adaptable had a somewhat better chance of surviving than those who lacked those characteristics. To the degree that strength, drive, or adaptability were acquired characteristics, they would have no effect on future generations since Lamarckianism had been proven wrong. But to the degree that some individuals inherited these characteristics, they were more likely to survive, to hand down these same characteristics to their descendants. As the lower branches of the ancient African trees were plucked bare, the longer-necked ancestral giraffes were more likely to survive than their shorter-necked cousins, and they handed down the tendency toward long necks to their descendants. The modern, long-necked giraffe thus evolved through countless generations of natural selection. A few people may have stumbled upon this idea before Darwin did, but Darwin was the first to develop it

Book report

Holly liked them very much. In the seventh letter he tells her to find a job that she really enjoys. Holly hated her previous jobs. The eight letter says that she should plant sunflowers, to brighten the dark October days. Also there was an extra letter for his friend John. It was a birthday wish. The ninth letter says that she should go to the ball that they attend every year. The last letter tells her not to be afraid of falling in love again. Every letter ended with the same sentence: "P.S. I love you..." Even if she didn't like all the plans he had for her, she followed through and did them all. During the experience she meets up with Daniel. Daniels girlfriend had been unfaithful and he was alone. Together they became close and Daniel fell in love with Holly. But because Holly wasn't ready for it she started ignoring Daniel. Greec wedding traditions

On Wednesday it is customed that relatives come to bride' s and groom' s new house and watch the flour being sieved by a boy and a girl. Through that process there is silence. When there is enough flour people throw coins into it and yell their wishes of good luck. On Friday there is a ritual called " filling of the sacks" . That means that the bride fills sacks with all her possessions while visitors throw coins in among her things. At the same time groom is sending pitchers of wine around the village to friends and family with an invitation to the wedding. The bride's father does the same thing to his friends and family and the bride goes around the village on Saturday, but instead of wine she gives out sweets. Before the weddings there are all sorts of traditions. It all starts with raising a wedding flag at the groom's house. Then people come with the flag to the bride's

Vene teadlaste avastused.

Altogether Kulibin designed three projects for wooden and three projects for metallic bridges. In 1779, he built a lantern that could emit a powerful light using a weak light source. This invention was used industrially for lighting workshops, lighthouses, ships, etc. In 1791, Kulibin constructed a push-cycle cart, in which he used a flywheel, a brake, a gearbox and roller bearing. The cart was operated by a man pressing pedals.[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] In the same year, he also designed "mechanical legs", a prosthetic device, which was later used by a French entrepreneur. In 1793, Kulibin constructed an elevator that lifted a cabin using screw mechanisms. In 1794, he created an optical telegraph for transmitting signals over distance. In 1801 Kulibin was fired from the academy and returned to Nizhny Novgorod, where he designed a method of sailing upstream and built a ship which he had started to design back in 1782

HCl lahus

Procedure A. Determining the concentration of a hydrochloric acid solution through titration 1. To determine the concentration of the acid solution take the NaOH solution with a known concentration (the standard solution) and pour it into the burette (α in figure 2.2). See that there are no air bubbles near the tip. Fill the burette until the 0-point of the scale. When measuring the level of the solution keep your eyes at the same level with the liquid level. The lower edge of the liquid level has to be at the 0 calibration mark (see figure 2.1). Work solutions are the solutions which are going to be used for pipetting or Figure 2.1 added from the burette. This step is necessary to ensure that the measuring of concentration is not changed by water or solvent of another concentration. 2

Backyard Pond

Figure 1 Figure 2 Figure 3 Step 3. Figure 3 shows how to measure your pond to get the right sized liner. The big square on Figure 3 represents the liner size needed for the pond in the drawing. To determine the right liner size, take the width of the pond and add twice the depth of the pond, plus 24 more inches. The length measurement will be done using the same formula. Step 4. When hole is completed, drape liner over pond, centering it and placing stones around the edge. Start filling with water. As it fills, remove wrinkles and fold large creases into neat folds to be less noticeable. Step 5. After pond is filled, trim excess liner to within 12 inches of edge of pond, and place your coping material around edge to give it a natural finished look. We recommend large

New Zealand beaches

New Zealand has an exceptionally long coastline compared to the size of the country (over 15,000 km) which makes it almost the same size as the mainland USA's coastline. Even though New Zealand is only about the same size as Colorado, the large coastline is possible because it is extremely iregular and indented. New Zealand's coastline is packed with deep coves, bays, intricate harbours, long sounds, and steep fiords. Its territorial waters stretch from the sub-tropical through to the sub-antarctic. Both islands tend to have better swimming beaches on their eastern coasts and the further north you go. The west coasts of both islands are quite rugged with cliffs and more unsettled weather

My Ideal Room

My Ideal Room My ideal room should be a medium sized. It would have probably more than one window, to have more natural light. There might be some stylish curtains in front of windows; their color might be something in the middle, not too dark, but also not too light. Walls, which would be covered with wallpaper, would be the same type, as the curtains. I'd probably have hard floor, which would have maybe one carpet on it. All the furniture, I'd have in my room, would be in some kind of a brownish variation, to make the room more natural. But I'd combine the entire furniture whit some hi-tech technology, for example a powerful computer, maybe also a 5.1 stereo system, surely a big TV set, about "32" inches diagonal and maybe a big deck too. In my room there would be one medium sofa, maybe one or two closets, studying desk and some shelves for mainly storing CD-s and DVD-s. Of course there would b...

Argumentive essay

to get cosmetic surgery? Many people nowadays think that teenagers are getting more independent. They often do things on their own and sometimes things that they wouldn't be proud of in the future. It is certainly true that cosmetic surgery costs a lot of money. People under the age of age of eighteen live with their parents. Usually parents have to cover their expenses. On the other hand minors might get into an accident and need cosmetic surgery to look the same again. If disfigured a child can feel left out which is not good. Another point in favor is that some people might have a serious birth defect like cleft lip and they might want to get it removed. To sum up, minors might use cosmetic surgery a lot but rarely do they really need it. On my opinion cosmetic surgery should only be given to those who need it with a doctor's subscription.
