Comparison of Education in Britain and Estonia

both countries. Firstly, there are dissimilarities in the age at which children go to school. In Estonia the age is 7 whereas in Britain children start their educational journey already as young as 5 years old. Primary school lasts 6 years just like in Estonia but the pupils in Britain are 2 years younger when they finish primary school than the pupils in Estonia. However, students in Britain and Estonia finish secondary school at the same age because secondary school lasts 5 years in Britain instead of 3 like it is in Estonia. Altogether, compulsory school in Britain lasts 11 years which is 2 years more than in Estonia. Moreover, there are slight differences as for the compulsory subjects taught in the first three years of secondary school in Britain and Estonia. In Britain, more emphasis is placed on Religious Studies, including Christianity and other religions, Drama and Information Technology

Gay rights

Gay rights According to an opinion widely held, homosexuality is said to be freer today than ever before. It is present and visible everywhere: in the street, in the newspapers, on television, at the movies. It is even supposedly completely accepted, judging by the recent legislative advances made in many countries for the recognition of same sex couples. Certainly, some work remains necessary in order to eradicate the last vestiges of discrimination. But with changing public opinion, it will only be, according to some people, a matter of time, the time needed for a movement begun many decades earlier to achieve its goals. To tell the truth, the 20th century has undoubtedly been the most violently homophobic period of history: deportation to concentration camps under the Nazi regime, Soviet gulags,

Would less TV and movie violence lead to fewer violent crimes

Would less TV and movie violence lead to fewer violent crimes TV and movies become more and more popular in each year. Reason why we enjoy that kind of entertainment is because of the excitement and fun it offers. There are lots of genres in movies and TV series but most watched of them is action where plenty of crime is shown. Because of the rise in crime and at the same time in action movies or series people have started worrying that these kind of movies affect people to commit more crimes. Firstly, action films/ TV series always include robberys, explosions, car chases, shooting and all the other more little crimes. Usually these movies/series have about the same plot, where there are good guys and bad guys fighting and chasing each other. Often in the end good guys somehow still capture the criminals and live happily forward

The plan fails to clearly define the Objective, forcing the reader into making their own conclusions based on the information presented throughout the plan. 5. The plan suggests multiple marketing tools and channels under the "Marketing methods and channels" section, offering a rather comprehensive analysis of the marketing possibilities. At the same time the section shows no attempt to create a brand image, therefore not allowing us to speak of a Marketing Strategy as a whole. 6. The same "Marketing methods and channels" section offers a rather clear Action Program. However it feels that the latter would have been better off as a separate section, as opposed to being merged a combined with Marketing channels. Considering both pros and cons raised in the analysis, I would say that despite some major

to the natural laws and traditions of the Gods. Sophocles expresses men as the all powerful and wonderful in his well-known "Ode to Man" in Antigone. A man "conquers all, taming with his techniques the prey that roam the cliffs and wild lairs, training the stallion, clamping the yoke across his shaggy neck, and the tireless mountain bull" (l.391-394)1, which portrays the audience all of the marvelous actions of men. At the same time, one common aspect that stands out in the midst of all the greatness is the artificialness of all men's actions. Men build boats to cross seas, houses to protect themselves from snow and rain and hunt animals for food all of these are actions which are working against nature. Creon is the character, who best symbolizes everything man-made, while Antigone is the one who is in connection with the Gods and nature. Creon, due to his excessive hubris, has forgotten about the

Folk music is held in high regard in Estonia. There are many annual international folk festivals of which the biggest is Viljandi Folk, which is calling performers from all over the world. The first Estonian Games, Dance and Gymnastics festival, held in 1934, was a precursor of the present Dance Celebration. One and a half thousand folk dancers performed there. Estonian Dance Celebrations are held once every five years, at the same time as the National Song Festival and usually over the same weekend. In winter, one of the most popular pastime is cross country skiing. It's very popular, because in winter we have lot of snow in here, Estonia. Brands are...

People also buy brands, because they guarantee the high quality of product. On the other hand, today you never can be 100% sure in quality and originality even if you buy product of market leader. Also, after a good brand launch, there is a large probability that someone besides you will buy something from the new collection and if you are living in a small town, there is a chance that you can face a number of people wearing the same outfit or having the same item as you. I also think that the frequency of how a particular brand is being bought by other people depends on society and advertisement of that brand. Considering an example of product placement: if your favorite actor is using a Sony computer, this would certainly affect your choice in the store. So it means that you do not always buy the required or desired object. Therefore, we can say that, this is not really you but "branded" you. It is very sad, but

Advantages and disadvantages of television

TV bridges between Russia and the USA once were very popular. They showed that TV was a unifying force and that our planet in reality is a small world. Previously innovations were promoted on TV. TV shocked, surprised and stimulated. It brought ballet, opera, and theatre to big masses of people. It was even in the vanguard of new drama. Moreover, TV can keep children quiet. If they are noisy their mothers turn on the set. If people do not like TV they do not buy it or switch it off. At the same time there are a lot of arguments against TV. It is said that only three generations have grown up with television, but they managed to forget how to spend their free time without television. Its role is increasing not because it is an entertainer or informant, but because of the grip it has on many people. It is called a "living room monster" or "one-eyed monster." It is established that the biggest viewers are pensioners and housewives. The latter watch TV while their husbands are at work

Word order

Use the first auxiliary, if there is more than one: Peter has not been playing much football lately. 6 If there is no modal verb or auxiliary verb in the sentence (Present and Past Simple), use do/does/did + not in front of the main verb. Note that the main verb will then be used in its original form: Julia works at a department store. - Julia does not work at the department store. Me and my brother went to the same school. - Me and my brother did not go to the same school. REMEMBER! There is no double negation in English – just one is enough: Nobody likes to be kept waiting. We need no education. We do not need any education. Word Order in General Questions To form a general question (i.e. a question requiring a yes/no answer), just bring the auxiliary or modal verb in front of the subject. All the other parts of the sentence will remain in the same place: Will you marry me, darling

Marriage is/is not an outdated institution

who are blessed in this time of century. For example I am one of those people who is not blessed. This leaves only one more option and that is ordinary official ceremony registration. More and more my generation people are using the last method. For example one of my classmates relative one day appeared behind her mothers door and said: ,,We are now married!" But can you say that registration is really getting married or is it just one way to own the same last name and property? Well, this is one of those things that everyone has to think out for themselves. Nowadays the word ,,marriage" does not own the same meaning as before, now it is more like just registration and eating cake with your family or closest friends. Marriages like before are such a rare sight, thats why the word ,,marriage" for me comes with the word ,,special". I hope that the old traditions will not disappear and keep on going, no matter what the life brings us. Thank you.

Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria

The car with the Archduke was able to speed away and make it safely to the Town Hall. The assassins did not give up, however. On the return trip, the motorcade took a wrong turn. When the driver began to back up, another assassin named Gavrilo Princip happened to be right next to the car. He took advantage of this opportunity and began firing at the Archduke. He fired twice, hitting the Archduke once and his wife Sophie. The crowd jumped on Princip and he was arrested by the police. At the same time the car sped to the Governor's residence to get medical help. Unfortunately, Sofie was dead before they arrived and the Archduke died a few minutes later. The Austria-Hungary government saw the assassination as a direct attack on the country. They believed that the Serbians had helped the Bosnian terrorists in the attack. They made harsh demands on the Serbians which the Serbians rejected. At the same time, Russia began to mobilize their army to help protect Serbia.

Healthy lifestyle

Finally they realized, that the only ones shortening our life are ourselves. We do it to ourselves. That's why everybody started living healthy. But is living a healthy life an easy way of living? In my point of view a healthy lifestyle is only healthy, when one does it in the right amount. You can do more damage to your body if you don't do it correctly. For example you can start working out. Start running, Go to gym etc. But if you start a green tea diet at the same time, then there is a high chance that you are going to spend your life in a hospital rather than leading a healthy one. I believe that living healthy doesn't mean that you only eat vegetables and fruit and drink herbal tea. I believe that it means, that you eat vegetables with meat, chicken and fish. You can't stop eating some things, you have to eat, but you can do it in smaller and reasonable amounts. The same goes for working out. It's not healthy, when you

Homereading - body language

Body language Body language means communication with the movement or position of the human body. It can be conscious or unconscious. It is something that is noticed by everybody but is not always given enough attention. We sometimes ignore it and try to hide behind words, but we should never forget that we cannot fool everyone! Children react to body language because they experience the world through intuition. The same can be true for adults when feelings are involved. People who are in bad shape emotionally will often place great importance in it. In fact, they often pick up the smallest hint of a lapse in attention in the person they are speaking to. And they frequently jump to the conclusion that they are boring or a nuisance - thus compounding any sense of depression or poor self-esteem. A way to learn the secrets of body language is to watch television with the sound turned off and

Film Studies - The Black Dahlia

doesn't really look like pretty-boy Bucky but a bit older and macho. Also, when in ``The Big Sleep`` Marlowe, as an anti-hero, is really unemotional, in the closing sequence of ``The Black Dahlia`` we see that Bucky is almost crying. This may lead us to the point that in old times men didn't show much emotions in films but nowadays it is ok, even if it is Film Noir and an anti-hero. Even though, the general dress codes (suits, hats) are still exactly the same. The femme fatale in this film is Madeline Linscott (played by Hilary Swank). Before Noir genre, women were quite inactive figures in Hollywood films. They were wives, mothers or whores and they didn't have much rights. In this gerne, role of women has changed. Through the film Madeline played one of the central roles and even at the end it seems like she could manipulate and control Bucky. She has the right to say what she wants

Satire in Lilliput

one HighHeel and one Low. When Gulliver started learning about the Lilliputians government he noticed that their government officials were chosen by rope dancing. To Gulliver and the reader these practices seem ridiculous and idiotic, but to the Lilliputians they see these practices as normal. Swift uses this scene to satire the British government at this time. The British government also elected their ministers in a same foolish manner. Throughout the first book in Gulliver's Travels, Swift uses satire to demonstrate British politics by using the Lilliputians as a tool to mock and at the same time educate England and its politics. Through Gulliver's eyes, Swift demonstrates the way British people lived in the eighteenth century. From each experience we grasp a stronger understanding of the faults of their government and people who ran them

Holden´s mood swings and trastic changes of feelings could even could mean that he had somekind of bipolar disorder. He could literally hate a person in one second and love in the next. He criticises others alot for being phony. Only persone he really seemed to be fond of was his little sister Phoebe. Great Guild activity ended in 1920, when Estonia abolished guilds. The Great Guild Hall The Great Guild Hall is one of the most outstanding buildings of medieval Tallinn. Albert Einstein

• Confirming his hypothesis through several experiments, Einstein won the Nobel Prize of 1921 for his works in this field. (Galenet) The Brownian Motion • Explained the movements of very small objects. (Galenet) • Examined molecular action that supported the Atomic Theory. (Galenet) The Theory of Relativity • First assumption was that the law of physics are the same from any frame of reference. (Galenet) • Second assumption was that the velocity of light will always be the same no matter what condition measured. (Isaacson, Einstein) • From the two assumptions, Einstein derived a mathematical relationship between the velocity of an object and its length. (Isaacson, Einstein) E=MC2 • Energy equals mass times the speed of light squared. (Fara, EBSOCHOST) • Formula was derived due to Einstein’s

Speech on Fast developing technology

really new. When I got my second cell phone, I thought again that wow, it is so new and unique, I have a prettier phone than my friends do. Some months later, my friends got the same phone, only newer version of it. You can't imagine, how disappointed I was when I realized that technology develops sooooo fast and we just can't always keep up with the times. When I think about the future and what developments are coming I just hardly can imagine what may come. Smartphones are in same level as cheaper laptops. Every month there is something really new and better applications and improvements for every new car or phone. Maybe in future we can fly with the cars, travel to space very cheap and use our house without being home. I think that we can cook food with remote control. In my opinion, it is not so good when modern technology develops as fast as it does nowadays. When people buy new gadgetry so often, it causes a lot of trash, which pollutes the environment

Powerpoint: Krumping

The most important part for them is that this is a way through which they can rebel and act on various events and activities that upset them. All the emotions of the human nature can be expressed through the moves of this dance. The key to start a suitable performance is to render the particular emotion into your head and to let your body move freely to the music in a representation of what you feel. The result will be fast, tragic, emotional, furious and amusing at the same time. From this action, the liberation of stress and frustration is the most important aspect. You can fell relieved and happy after this dance. Krumping brings many benefits for the mind and for the body at the same time. In the initial phases of Krumping style development, people believed it will turn into another way through which gangs are formed and start with various negative actions. KING LEAR

Goneril is jealous, treacherous, and amoral. Shakespeare’s audience would have been particularly shocked at Goneril’s aggressiveness, a quality that it would not have expected in a female character. She challenges Lear’s authority, boldly initiates an affair with Edmund, and wrests military power away from her husband. Regan - Lear’s middle daughter and the wife of the duke of Cornwall. Regan is as ruthless as Goneril and as aggressive in all the same ways. In fact, it is difficult to think of any quality that distinguishes her from her sister. When they are not egging each other on to further acts of cruelty, they jealously compete for the same man, Edmund. Gloucester - A nobleman loyal to King Lear whose rank, earl, is below that of duke. The first thing we learn about Gloucester is that he is an adulterer, having fathered a bastard son, Edmund. His fate is in many ways parallel to that of Lear: he misjudges which of his children to trust

Translation history

problems associated to them?); language use – tenor, mode and domain (what do these notions mean and what are some problems associated to them?). Register-analysis Language user vs. language use – the two main parameters of language change. Variability in the language user is further defined by three broad parameters: 1-Time- (when?) the time when the speaker or the writer lived. For example, if you were to translate a Dickens book from english to russian, you could use the same language as did Dostoyevsky, because they lived at the same time (19th century) 2-Region- The second parameter that defines the language user is region. Region refers to where the author/speaker (sometimes character) is from. May be on a broader scale – Middle East, Western world; but also narrower – Germany, Latvia, Minnesota; and even narrower – Conrwall, London, Pärnu, etc. Problems related to region (similar to the problems covered in previous lessons):
