Extreme Programming - Four Variables Extreme Programming initially recognized four values in 1999. A new value was added in the second edition of Extreme Programming Explained. The five values are: Communication Simplicity Feedback Courage Building software systems requires communicating system requirements to the developers of the system. In formal software development methodologies, this task is accomplished through documentation. Extreme Programming techniques can be viewed as methods for rapidly building and disseminating institutional knowledge among members of a development team. The goal is to give all developers a shared view of the system which matches the view held by the users of the system. To this end, Extreme Programming favors simple designs,

Hard handover - Is one in which the channel in the source cell is released and only then the channel in the target cell is engaged. Thus the connection to the source is broken before or 'as' the connection to the target is made—for this reason such handovers are also known as break-before-make. Hard handovers are intended to be instantaneous in order to minimize the disruption to the call. A hard handover is perceived by network engineers as an event during the call. It requires the least processing by the network providing service. When the mobile is between base stations, then the mobile can switch with any of the base stations, so the base stations bounce the link with the mobile back and forth. This is called 'ping-ponging'. (2G, Soft handover - Is one in which the channel in the source cell is retained and used for a while in parallel with the channel in the target cell. In this case the connection to the target

heating costs with the change of outdoor temperature. This research revealed the negative and positive sides of different heating systems. For example the positive side of electrical heating sytem is its convenience, but the negative is the need for electricity. The same is with solar heating where the initial investment is quite large, but in longer perspective it costs it self back, because money is spent only for maintenance what requires very littel resources. With this work I got the answers for my hypothesea. Fireplaces, stoves and cookers are indeed the most popular heating sytems in Estonia, mainly beacause their cheapness and simplicity. However collapsed the hypothesis, in which I claimed that in certain negative outdoor temperature the cost for heating will remain constant. Actually the cost for wood increased about 0,5 kg for every decreased degree on the outside temperature.

guilty, the emotional and legal battles begin. The saddest part of these legal battles is that they usually end where they started, with no one having gained very much. ■ ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY The best way to eliminate anger of all kinds is to accept responsibility. The acceptance of responsibility immediately short-circuits the emotion of anger. All the energy that anger requires for its existence is cut off. As soon as you say, “I am responsible!” your anger stops. Because of the Law of Substitution and the fact that your mind can hold only one thought at a time, you cannot accept responsibility for your situation and be angry at the same time. The idea of blame, on which the emotion of anger is based, is canceled out by the deci- sion to accept responsibility. ■ POSITIVE VERSUS

understanding) of production and prediction of the future. Basically, what this means is that theory should allow us to foretell upcoming events in the system under consideration, and to understand the interactions between units and processes. All processes in production involving human action and organizational management are in a coherent system; understanding these patterns is essential for future improvements. This requires an understanding of the metaphysical nature of reality and with the use of empirical studies and evaluation of their validity. This is a circle of science where academics learn from reality and then try to put the observed into theory and then apply theory back to practice. It is a continuous never ending process. Koskela claims in his research, which is based on a thorough literature study, that production theory consists of three levels, as shown in the next figure: Figure 3

and calculating a new check digit. Commercial publishers in industrialized countries generally assign ISBNs to their books, so buyers may presume that the ISBN is part of a total international system, with no exceptions. However many government publishers, in industrial as well as developing countries, do not participate fully in the ISBN system, and publish books which do not have ISBNs. A large or public collection requires a catalogue. Codes called "call numbers" relate the books to the catalogue, and determine their locations on the shelves. Call numbers are based on a Library classification system. The call number is placed on the spine of the book, normally a short distance before the bottom, and inside. Institutional or national standards, such as ANSI/NISO Z39.41 - 1997, establish the correct way to place information (such as the title, or the name of the author) on book spines, and on "shelvable"

connotation (an additional shade of meaning). Connotation is also: overtones, colouring, charge, and shade of meaning all this actually means the same. The bulk of words have denotation (in any language)(e.g. tree, time, quick, to take, etc.). Connotation may be a permanent part of word meaning it is then called inherent connotation. Connotation is ever present when the word is used. Adherent connotation is the shade of meaning the word requires in a particular context only. Outside this context this shade of meaning is not present. Connotation is not uniform (even). On the one hand there are words that convey emotional or expressive overtones (e.g. OK fine - gorgeous "gorgeous" conveys emotional overtones). On the other hand they may contain evaluation (the speaker's or writer's negative or positive attitude) (e.g. famous (positive) notorious (negative).

to LTM. The levels of processing model changed the direction of memory research. It showed that encoding was not a simple, straightforward process. This widened the focus from seeing long-term memory as a simple storage unit to seeing it as a complex processing system. Craik and Lockhart's ideas explain why we remember some things much better and for much longer than others. This explanation of memory is useful in everyday life because it highlights the way in which elaboration, which requires deeper processing of information, can aid memory. Despite these strengths, there are a number of criticisms of the levels of processing theory: It does not explain how the deeper processing results in better memories. Deeper processing takes more effort than shallow processing and it could be this, rather than the depth of processing that makes it more likely people will remember something. Also, the concept of depth is vague and cannot be observed. Therefore, it cannot be objectively measured.

seen as the primary means of communication. Functional differences and capabilities of CAD programs impact the communication strategies of complex-shaped architecture. When the architect’s files and the fabricators’ files are not directly compatible, it becomes necessary to translate between the architect’s model and the recipients’ platforms. Typically, interchangeable file formats are supported by commercial software, yet the conversion is not flawless and often requires additional processing (Ku, M., Pollalis, & Fischer, 2008). The interoperability issues of the design/construct community are mirrored in the structural engineering profession. There are dozens of analysis and design (A&D) programs available for modeling various aspects of a structure. However, the graphical representations of the engineer’s designs traditionally have been rendered in a CAD- based set of design drawings. There is little, if any, data embedded in an AutoCAD file

For example, while you think about and feel your grievance, its negative emotional energy can distort your perception of an event that is happening in the present or influence the way in which you speak or behave to ward someone in the present. One strong grievance is enough to contaminate large areas of your life and keep you in the grip of the ego. It requires honesty to see whether you still harbor grievances, whether there is someone in your life you have not completely forgiven, an “enemy.” If you do, become aware of the grievance both on the level of thought as well as emotion, that is to say, be ware of the thoughts that keep it alive, and feel the emotion that is the body's response to those thoughts. Don't try to let go of the grievance. Trying to let go, to forgive, does not work. Forgiveness

But it's not the type of advice that will make friends greet you with "What the #$%& have you been doing?!", whether in the dressing room or on the playing field. That requires an altogether different approach. The Unintentional Dark Horse Let's be clear: I'm neither a doctor nor a PhD. I am a meticulous data cruncher with access to many of the world's best athletes and scientists. This puts me in a rather unusual position. and malignant tumors in the patients of East-Tallinn Central Hospital. The second sub-goal is to describe various tumor localizations in patients with venous thromboembolism. The paper largely draws its statistics from the database of the hospital. For a coherent analysis several statistical methods were used. The results of the survey seem to confirm that patients with cancer are at significantly higher risk of developing, and dying from venous thromboembolism (VTE). This requires careful consideration of the interplay between the patient's cancer and treatment course, with their underlying comorbidities. Recognizing the increased risk for VTE in cancer patients is the first step in preventing the occurrence of VTE and promptly identifying VTE in these patients. Introducing the results of this study to the Estonian physician will help to raise awareness of the relationship between VTE and malignant tumors, increase alertness for potential tumor

Generally, registration of investments is not required, but might be advisable in certain instances. For instance, if a foreign investment is made in kind (i.e. as a contribution of fixed assets into share capital) the contributed fixed assets may be exempt from import customs duties provided the relevant investment is registered with the Ukrainian authorities. In practice, though, in-kind contribution of fixed assets (typically machinery & equipment) to be exempt from import duties requires a lot of work with customs officials and submitting a lot of various documents. It can be especially challenging if equipment is being imported in Ukraine in several deliveries. In my experience, we have managed to organize delivery of the equipment efficiently to avoid keeping the trucks at the customs for long time. The trick for us was to get one unified custom code for the entire equipment for the factory. In such case in-kind contribution will be exempt of customs duties

then computes an additional random backoff time and counts down this time. When the random backoff timer reaches zero, the station transmits its frame. The random backoff timer serves to avoid having multiple stations immediately begin transmission (and thus collide) after a DIFS idle period. Unlike the 802.3 Ethernet protocol, the wireless 802.11 MAC protocol does not implement collision detection. There are a couple of reasons for this: The ability to detect collisions requires the ability to both send (one's own signal) and receive (to determine if another station's transmissions is interfering with one's own transmission) at the same time. This can be costly. More importantly, even if one had collision detection, a collision could still occur at the receiver. Suppose that station A is transmitting to station B. Suppose also that station C is transmitting to station B. With the so-called hidden terminal problem, physical obstructions in the may

It is a particular way of seeing. For education this particular way of seeing has been one oriented toward the past. To change toward a futures-orientation requires a paradigm shift. A paradigm shift is a movement away from old explanations and structures that no longer explain reality, resulting in a redefinition of taken for granted boundaries due to the emergence of a new model or paradigm, which returns everyone back to zero. The main position of the author is that although the geographical indication and the trade mark are often regulated by the same international treaties, they are nevertheless different notions and the protection of the geographical indication requires more attention than that of the trade mark. The illegitimate usage of geographical indications conflicts good commercial and industrial 51 practice, misleads the consumer and provides the perpetrator with a dishonest competitive advantage. . , , , . , .

The problem consists in country size and in historical heritage, that is why the process is not quick and simple. During research it became obvious that Russian Federation legislation requires big changes. In comparison with Estonian notarial legislation Russian legislation does not give a proper answers to some questions. Problem is the limitation of Russian notarial legislation. Two forms of notariates state and private are being regulated by the same system, that leads to conflicts. In my humble opinion it is too early to get rid of state notariate, because at present private notary does not have an appropriate legislative base and private practice is not up to the mark

tion referentially, I say "Mrs Thatcher's Christmas bastard wrote a classic article on descriptions." If you know enough about my weird beliefs, you will pick out the right individual and understand what I meant, but no one could correctly describe me as having said that Keith Donnellan wrote the classic paper. It should be questioned whether there is any rightfully separate notion of an "actual referent." The concept of a semantic referent is clear, and the theory of communication requires that of a speaker-referent, but perhaps the idea of an "actual referent" is just a confusion of the two based on our failure to see the difference between literal sentence semantics and the theory of communication. Then we would have to explain away the fact of our having intuitions about "actual referents" in cases like some of the foregoing. Kripke takes roughly that line, making use of an idea of Grice's that we shall discuss in chapter 13. Anaphora

TheCodeBreakers

Jargon has been popular since the dawn of cryptography. The Chinese employed it; the oldest papal code is the 14th-century use of EGYPTIANS for Ghibellines and SONS OF ISRAEL for Guelphs; in the 17th century a French code consisted entirely of such jargon expressions as GARDEN for Rome, ROSE for the pope, PLUM TREE for the Cardinal de Retz, WINDOW for Monsieur the king's brother, and STAIRCASE for the Marquis de Coeuvres. It is clear that skillful application of jargon's literary veneer requires no little finesse! Censorship defends itself against this ruse by a feel for stilted or heavy-handed language and by a healthy skepticism concerning subject matter. The standard story about jargon comes from World War I. A British censor grew suspicious of the enormous orders for cigars wired each day—mostly from port towns—by two "Dutch business- men." One day Portsmouth called for 10,000 Coronas; the next day Plymouth and Devonport craved large quantities of stogies; then

" The former calls for a voluntary or forced acquisition of the culture of the dominant group, a kind of cultural modification from one group of people to another, or more specifically, a process of cultural adaptation by the subordinate people toward the dominant people's culture within the context of social advancement in American society at that time. The latter indicates the disappearance of group identity through nondifferential association and exogamy, which requires a mutual effort of both dominant and ethnic groups. Cooper was keenly aware that, to his contemporaries, that was something to be wished for but entirely nonfeasible. His perception of the encounters between the European colonizers and their colonized natives convinced him that the acculturation occurring during the process of the Western overseas expansion was basically a confrontation between two

Simply take whatever the inspector is willing to provide-safety information, home extin- guisher-thank him politely, and show him out the door. After all, the reciprocity rule asserts that if justice is to be done, exploitation attempts should be exploited. Summary • According to sociologists and anthropologists, one of the most widespread and basic norms of human culture is embodied in the rule for reciprocation. The rule requires that one person try to repay, in kind, what another person has provided. By obligating the recipient of an act to repayment in the future, the rule for reciprocation allows one individual to give something to another with confidence that it is not being lost. This sense of future obligation within the rule makes possible the development of various kinds of continuing relation- ships, transactions, and exchanges that are beneficial to the society. Conse-

The decline in the number of Africans going into scientific fields of education is a major obstacle to bringing Africans into the technological advancements of the new millennium. We have abandoned this area because it requires too much investment of our brain. We would rather major in the social sciences – political science, management, history, geography, law, psychology, literature, English – anything where the employment of our brain is not taxed to the limit. The question Africans should be addressing is what is the success formula that all these groups have used that we as a group are not using? The miseducation of the African will continue as long as we continue to depend on Europeans and

Christopher Vogler The Writers Journey

T h e Hero is usually the most active per son in the script. H i s will and desire is what drives most stories forward. A frequent flaw in screenplays is that the Hero is fairly active throughout the story, but at the most critical moment becomes passive and is rescued by the timely arrival of some outside force. At this moment above all, a Hero should be fully active, in control of his own fate. T h e Hero should perform the decisive action of the story, the action that requires taking the most risk or responsibility. 31 T H E W R I T E R ' S JOURNEY ~ T H I R D EDITION Christopher Vogler SACRIFICE People commonly think of Heroes as strong or brave, but these qualities are second ary to sacrifice — the true mark of a Hero. Sacrifice is the Hero's willingness to give up something of value, perhaps even her own life, on behalf of an ideal or a group.

that colour to the kittens. Blue eyes also occur in white cats and are associated with the epistatic white (often called dominant white) gene which is quite different from albinism because it masks an underlying coat colour. The white spotting gene also affects eye pigment if there are white patches around the eyes. White cats can have one or both eyes blue. The non-blue eye will be whatever colour the breed standard requires for example in white Persians, the other eye is vivid orange. In the randombred odd-eye white cats, the non-white eye might be green or yellow or even a different shade of blue. For more on blue-eyed white cats White Cats, Eye Colours and Deafness. The Ojos Azules is characterised by cornflower blue eyes, but the mutation is linked to lethal deformities if a kitten inherits 2 copies of the mutated gene. In this breed, the eye colour is independent of the coat colour

Tests indicated that the sound insulation of walls and ceilings in double-plank-walled apartments is in accordance with INSTA 122 D-class requirements and their soundproofing may exceed that of prefabricated concrete large panel apartment buildings type series 1-464 and 1-121. The studied single layer wood structures air sound insulation index in the case of the same mass is up to 15 dB higher than according to the calculated EVS - EN 12354 - 1, the latter requires the spread of sound waves within the area irrespective of the direction of the spread and thus is more suitable for concrete and masonry structures than the wood structures under examination. To clarify the basis for improvement of sound insulation of wood structures it is necessary to conduct a separate study for the creation of the basis of sound insulation and/or conducting respective comparative tests. 16.6 Hygrothermal conditions in apartments
