Austraalia

Australia is a parliamentary democracy. Queen Elizabeth II is formally the head of the state, but she is represented in Australia by a Governor General. There are two houses of Parliament: the Senate and the House of Representatives. There is growing Republican feeling in Australia: a desire to break the remaining formal links with Britain and become totally independent. Prince Charles has said that Australians should be able to have a Republic if they want one. The Language The people of Australia speak English but some of their words are not found in the English of either Britain or America. The Capital The capital of Australia is Canberra in New South Wales. Canberra is a small city. It was built in the early 1900s just to be the capital of the country. When the government of Australia

Washington and Texas

Houston is the most populous city in Texas and the fourth largest in the US, while San Antonio is the second most populous in the state and seventh largest in the US. Dallas–Fort Worth and Greater Houston are the fourth and fifth largest metropolitan statistical areas in the country, respectively. Other major cities include Austin, the second most populous state capital in the US, and El Paso. Texas is nicknamed the Lone Star State to signify its former status as an independent republic and as a reminder of the state's struggle for independence from Mexico. The "Lone Star" can be found on the Texan state flag and on the Texan state seal. The origin of the state name, Texas, is from the word, "Tejas", which means 'friends' in the Caddo language. Government Texas has a plural executive branch system limiting the power of the governor, which is a weak executive compared to some other states. Except for the Secretary of State, voters elect executive

Tallinn

1700. Estonia remained under Russian rule and the Baltic-German nobility vowed allegiance to the Tsar; the barons were restored their former privileges. In 1870 a railway line was opened from St. Petersburg to Tallinn. Tallinn grew into a major port and an industrial centre. Estonians became conscious of their national identity. Tartu was the centre of the movement of national awakening. On 24 February 1918, Estonia was proclaimed an independent democratic republic. Tallinn developed into a modern European capital. A period of prosperity followed, but independence only lasted for 20 years. During World War II Estonia was occupied by both German and Russian invaders, and Tallinn suffered heavily. The bombing of the city by the Soviet air forces on 9 March 1944 left over 20,000 people homeless. During the Russian occupation which followed (and which lasted for five decades) attempts were made to Russify the local people

ignoring parliament. James I united England and Scotland. Charles I raised taxes without its permission and prevented it from meeting for 11 years. The conflict between the Parliament and the kings over power increased and led the country into the Civil War (1642-1651) between Charles I and Parliamentarians led by Oliver Cromwell. Oliver Cromwell led the Parliamentarian Roundheads to victory, Charles I was executed and Cromwell rook up rule of the country, which became a republic, called the Commonwealth. He was its Lord Protector until his death in 1660. After Cromwell's death, the Stuarts returned to the throne, Charles I's son was crowned Charles II. However, the Parliament was firmly established this time and no future monarch would ever seriously challenge its power. England suffered during the reign of Charles II. The Plague (1665) killed almost 70 000 of London's inhabitants and the Great Fire (1666) destroyed most of the city. Sir

My Town

My Town I live in Tallinn. It's the capital and main seaport of Estonia. Tallinn is a very beautiful city that lies on the Baltic Sea. It covers 158 square kilometres. The Mayor of Tallinn is Jüri Ratas. The population of our capital is about 400000 people. About 55% of them are Estonian, 37% Russians and the other 8% are from different nations. The people here are mostly engaged in industry- mainly the food industry (23%), trade (16%) and transport and communication (14%). History. Tallinn has a great history. It was first marked on a map of the world by the Arab geographer al-Idrisi in 1154, its name then being Kolyvan. In the 13 th- century chronicle of Henricus de Lettis the town was called Lyndanise. Then it was called Reval for some time and finally Estonians started to call the town Tallinn from Taanilinn (Danish town) after the Danish conquest in the 13th century. Th...

Analüüs Swifti kirjandusest inglise keeles

These two chapters highlight the kinds of commentary Swift makes throughout the novel. By describing a society that chooses its highest officials with silly competitions like seeing who can jump the highest on a tightrope, Swift is poking fun at the way officials are chosen in England. He is also commenting on the disturbing trend of politicians who are willing to do whatever it takes to gain favour in the courtincluding humiliating themselves. The danger of ambition is also figured here; jumping badly can lead to death. Having Gulliver stand with his legs apart so that the Lilliputian armies can walk through is also a ridiculous idea. It is a comment on the pomp and circumstance of English armies. To Swift it seems that armies are often more concerned with looking impressive than with being impressive. This scene might also be an allusion to the Colossus of Rhodes, described in Julius Caesar by Shakespeare as a largerthanlife ...

They wanted to establish an independent Boer republic. The Natalia Republic was established by the local Boers after Pretorius entered into an alliance with the new Zulu king. The Orange Free State was recognized as independent by Great Britain and it became officially independent with the signing of the Bloemfontein or Orange River Convention. Inglise keele ajalugu, essee "My languages"

My languages I love different languages. I mean, I really, really love different languages. I also believe and have been told that I pick them up rather easily. That might be true, although I did not pick any Greek up in Greece but that might have been because they spoke so damn fast that I could not tell if it was a word or an entire sentence. The first foreign language I learned was Russian. Considering I was ten when Estonia became a Republic, it makes sense. We began studying Russian in first grade, though it was simplified – "koška" instead of "kot", "medvešonok" instead of "medved", "saichik" etc. Did not make much sense and we mostly played some games in Russian (Tare-tareke etc). Learned as much playing outside, since we had Estonian-Russian kids around as well. Not that we played with them. It's sad to say but it was not a nice time to be a Russian kid. We were mean to them, and we...

European Commission by agreeing not to buy rough diamonds from Russian diamond miner Alrosa from 2009. The Commission said this would make more diamonds available in the market. (Miningmx 2009) With this sort moves they will decrease DeBeers monopoly and hope to get diamonds prices not so high. In 2011 as Oppenheimer decided to back out from business and sell his shares. This gave an opportunity already existing shareholders Anglo America and Botswana Republic to increase their shareholding. Botswana did not buy because of a large cost for a country whose government budget is still in deficit, and [which] is trying to bring the budget to balance within a year and a half. The purchase of the 10% DeBeers stake would have cost the Botswana government $1.275 billion, equivalent to about 10% of the country's gross domestic product, the ministry said.

London. All of them were at one time independent kingdoms with their own monarch. Now they are all part of the same kingdom and share the same monarch. The UK consists of Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. The peoples of these countries are British subjects; they hold British passports and therefore their nationality is British. The british Isles is the geographical name for all the islands off the west coast of Europe. These islands also include The Republic of Ireland, which is politically independent of the Britsh government. Many people refer to the inhabitants of the British isles as 'the English', but England is only one of the countries. The other countries are Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Great britan is the name of the one island which is made up of Scotland, England and Wales. The number of countries with Christian majorities is expected to decline from 159 to 151, as Christians are projected to drop below 50% of the population in Australia, Benin, Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Republic of Macedonia and the United Kingdom. Muslims in 2050 are expected to make up more than 50% of the population in 51 countries, two more than in 2010, as both the Republic of Macedonia and Nigeria are projected to gain Muslim majorities. The first Estonian mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records was a sportsman. In the Olympic Games of 1912 in Stockholm, the Finn Alfred Asikainen and the Estonian Martin Klein wrestled for a record 11 hours and 40 minutes. Klein won, and "Russia" was given as his country of residence. The first chance to rectify this mistake came in 1918 when the Republic of Estonia came into being for the first time. Martin Klein was the first Estonian Olympic medal winner. Among other Estonians, the heavyweight wrestlers Georg Lurich, Aleksander Aberg and Georg Hackenschmidt were famous at the turn of the century. By 1645 Charles ran out of money and his army deserted. He was defeated at the battle of Naseby, captured and imprisoned. It took them four years to decide what to do with them. They decided to behead him in 1649. After his beheading the Commonwealth or Cromwell's republic was created. However, the government was too severe and it fell in 1660. The Commonwealth abolished the House of Lords, the Anglican Church and Scotland went under Cromwell's rule. 1653 it became a dictatorship. The army was used to retain law and order. The country strictly observed Puritan beliefs no celebration of Christmas or Easter, no games on Sunday. Cromwell died in 1658, his son was his successor, but fucked up. In 1660 Charles II was invited to return to the throne
