Tallinn grew into a major port and an industrial centre, with huge shipyards. Interest in culture grew and Estonians became conscious of their national identity, dreams of independence gained ground. On 24 February 1918 Estonia was declared an independent country and Tallinn became the capital of the Republic of Estonia. During World War II Estonia was occupied by both German and Russian invaders and Tallinn suffered heavily. The bombing of the city by the Soviet air force on 9 March 1944 left over 20,000 people homeless. During the Russian occupation which followed attempts were made to Russify the local people. Indigenous people mostly fished, because there vas a vast stock of fish. But they also relied upon agriculture, hunting and trapping. There has to be a strong emphasis on research and development. In Switzerland, a higher percentage of people work in research and development than in other industrialized countries. Political Factors: Government type: formally a confederation but similar in structure to a federal republic. Political conditions: Switzerland has a stable government. Most voters support the government in its philosophy of armed neutrality underlying its foreign and defense policies. The Russian government, however, did not trust the Baltic nations and suspected them (for which there was good cause) of planning to split away from Russia. The emergence of Estonian independence On 15 March 1917, after Nicholas II renounced the throne and the Romanoff dynasty collapsed, the Provisional government in Russia declared a new course towards establishing a democratic republic. A great number of political parties immediately sprang up in Estonia. By appointing Jaan Poska the Estonian provincial commissar, the new central government handed the local administration over to Estonian politicians. On 12 April 1917, under the pressure of the ever increasing demands for autonomy that the Estonians had been voicing since 1905, the Provisional government issued a decree on the provisional management of the administrative government and local government

The United States of America

There are about 24 million Negroes in the country and over 800,000 Indians. Many of the inhabitants come from Mexico and other South American countries. The United States is a federal union of fifty states. The original thirteen states were the successors of the thirteen colonies that rebelled against British rule. Most of the states were carved out of unorganized territories, with the exceptions being Vermont, Texas, and Hawaii; each was an independent republic before joining the union. Early in the country's history, three states were created out of the territory of existing ones: Kentucky from Virginia; Tennessee from North Carolina; and Maine from Massachusetts. West Virginia broke away from Virginia during the American Civil War. The most recent state--Hawaii--achieved statehood on August 21, 1959. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the states do not have the right to secede from the union.

Australia/ Austraalia

The political system is a federation of six states (Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria). The capital city is Canberra in New South Wales. Australia is a parliamentary democracy. Queen Elizabeth II is formally head of state, but she is represented in Australia by a Governor General. There are two houses of Parliament: the Senate and the House of Representatives. Prince Charles has said that Australians should be able to have a Republic if they want one. Animals and plants. Sixty million years ago Australia and its nearby islands were separated from the other world by a great upheaval. They were cut off from Asia by the ocean. Almost no animals visited Australia before English colonists began to settle there. Now a strange thing happened when the ocean blocked off this island continent. The ancestors of cats and tigers, of dogs and wolves, of elephant and sheep just were not there

“Foreign direct investments in the Estonian economy”

"Foreign direct investments are relatively new phenomenon for Estonia because during the nearly five decades as part of the Soviet economic system, our economy received virtually none. Such economic isolation from the West lasted until the early 1990s. In consequence of the mid-1990s' radical macroeconomic reforms, foreign direct investments started to play a significant role in the Estonian economy. Currently Estonia ranks third after Hungary and the Czech Republic by per capita indicators of the inflow of foreign direct investments. Presumably, the experience of our recent past provides sufficient data to analyze how foreign direct investments impact on different aspects of the economic restructuring process in Estonia." Urmas Varblane Foreign investments Sound and liberal economic policies and excellent business climate has ensured a continuous growth of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Estonia. In 1929 the palace was expropriated from the Art Museum in order to rebuild it as the residence of the President of Estonia. The Art Museum of Estonia was housed in several different temporary spaces, until it moved back to the palace in 1946. In September, 1991 the Kadriorg Palace was closed, because it had totally deteriorated by then. During Swedish rule, the first university in Estonia was founded at Tartu in 1632. Tartu University is still widely considered the most important university in Estonia. The period is still often remembered by Estonians as "the Good old Swedish time". In the early 18th century, the Great Northern War left Estonia under Russian rule. A high point of the Estonian national movement was the first nation-wide Song Festival in Tartu in June 1869. In 1918 on the 24th of February, the Estonian Republic was proclaimed. It is a highly important holiday in Estonia. At first it was merely a decision on paper. True independence was fought for in the following years, in the War of Liberation. Independence lasted until 1939 when a pact between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union was signed. Following the Soviet occupation in 1940, Estonia was occupied by Nazi Germany from 1942 to 1944. The Soviet Union incorporated Estonia in the autumn of 1944. A large proportion of the population fled abroad

Reconstruction era After the Civil War, Douglass held several important political positions. He served as President of the Reconstruction-era Freedman's Savings Bank; as marshal of the District of Columbia; as minister-resident and consul-general to the Republic of Haiti (1889 1891); and as chargé d'affaires for the Dominican Republic. Launched in 2007, Stitchclub franchises provide great flexibility since franchisees are only required to run classes for a minimum of two afternoons and/or a Saturday morning. That franchise businesses do not need to be a full-time commitment is a key reason for their increasing popularity. At the other end of the franchise spectrum, Coffee Republic offers franchise opportunities for those interested in a more traditional model (www.coffeerepublic. co.uk). With three levels of potential franchise engagement (Espresso Bar, Coffee Republic Deli and Deli Chain of six outlets) the company offers options that suit a range of more significant investment levels. There's no doubt that a franchise can be an effective way into business. But do your homework before purchasing a franchise. Make sure that you understand fully any

tower, Pilsticker (“arrow-sharpener”). Three of these towers have been preserved. Stür den Kerl was demolished in the 18th century when the government administration building was being erected. The core of the fortress was taken up by the Convent House, built to a specific plan and the layout evolved in the course of the Order´s construction activities. In the 1920s the house, which had fallen into disrepair, was replaced with the building of the parliament of the Republic of Estonia that follows in general the layout of the medieval construction. The building was designed by Eugen Habermann and Herbert Johanson, who later proved to be Estonia’s most outstanding architects. The building with its traditionalist exterior and expressionist interior is unique among parliament buildings. The most outstanding room of the building is the parliamentary chamber, with ultramarine walls and a pleated lemon-yellow ceiling, which extends through three floors.
