Iseseisev töö nr2: „Drivers of Convergence in Eleven Eastern European Countries“

The generosity of the social protection system allows Europeans to maintain a balance between work and leisure. While this pillar of the European growth model has obvious benefits for workers, it discourages labor participation and is a burden on the public finances. Europeans do indeed work less and retire earlier than Americans. Over the last four decades the effective retirement age in Europe has systematically declined in Europe even though life expectancy has risen significantly. Relatively low labor mobility adds to the problems Europe faces in achieving efficient allocation of labor within and between countries. 3.

Abstract. Roostalu, H. 2000. Quality of arable land in Estonia. – Transaction of The Estonian Agricultural University Only 50 - 60 % of arable land in Estonia is characterized by a high degree of fertility, where it is possible to foster competitive agricultural production. The share of low fertility, droughtly and coarse rich soils as well as eroded soils, nutrient - poor acid soils and overmoistened soils in the arable area, where agricultural production is not profitable, is relatively large. On all arable land soils with a low or very low content of lactate soluble potassium account for 40 - 65 %. Considerable phosphorus deficit occurs in 20 - 35 % of soils in the arable area. The soils of Põlva, Valga and Võru counties are exceedingly poor in humus. The available water supply in the metric profile of arable soils at the beginning of vegetation period varies from 140 to 255 mm. Gleyic and gley soils occupy the large areas

purposes (such as designing a floor to also serve as the radiator, or a massive fireplace to also house the bathroom). Designer Buckminster Fuller adopted the engineer's goal of "Doing more with less", but his concerns were oriented towards technology and engineering rather than aesthetics. A similar sentiment was industrial designer Dieter Rams' motto, "Less but better" adapted from van der Rohe. The structure uses relatively simple elegant designs; ornamentations are quality rather than quantity[dubious discuss]. The structure's beauty is also determined by playing with lighting, using the basic geometric shapes as outlines, using only a single shape or a small number of like shapes for components for design unity, using tasteful non-fussy bright color combinations, usually natural textures and colors, and clean and fine finishes. The highest temperature ever recorded in London was 39 °C in August 2003. The lowest ever recorded temperature is -10 °C London has regular but generally light precipitation throughout the year, with average precipitation of 583.6 millimeters every year. Snow is relatively uncommon, particularly because heat from the urban area can make London up to 5 °C warmer than the surrounding areas in winter. Some snowfall, however, is usually seen up to a few times a year. London is in USDA Hardiness zone 9, and AHS Heat Zone 2.In the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th, London was noted for its dense fogs and smogs .Following the deadly Great Smog of 1952, the Clean Air Act 1956 was passed, leading to the decline of such severe pollution in

“Foreign direct investments in the Estonian economy”

Urmas Varblane) (Pages : 10 20) Prepared: Kadri Tamm, MF-I-5 Tartu 2007 I read book about direct investments in the Estonian economy. The book is issued by University of Tartu and the writers are also scientists from University of Tartu. "Foreign direct investments are relatively new phenomenon for Estonia because during the nearly five decades as part of the Soviet economic system, our economy received virtually none. Such economic isolation from the West lasted until the early 1990s. In consequence of the mid-1990s' radical macroeconomic reforms, foreign direct investments started to play a significant role in the Estonian economy. Currently Estonia ranks third after Hungary and the Czech Republic by per capita indicators of the inflow of foreign direct investments

non-musical duties. During his seven-month tenure at Weimar, his reputation as a keyboard player spread. He was invited to inspect and give the inaugural recital on the new organ at St. Boniface's Church in Arnstadt. The Bach family had close connections with this oldest town in Thuringia, about 40 km to the southwest of Weimar at the edge of the great forest. In August 1703, he accepted the post of organist at that church, with light duties, a relatively generous salary, and a fine new organ tuned to a modern system that allowed a wide range of keys to be used. At this time, Bach was embarking on the serious composition of organ preludes; these works, in the North German tradition of virtuosic, improvisatory preludes, already showed tight motivic control (in which a single, short music idea is explored cogently throughout a movement). However, in these works the

Manners in Estonia

Gifts are usually opened when received. Dining Etiquette Arrive on time. Punctuality is expected. Call if running late. Check to see if shoes are being worn in the house. Do not expect a tour of the house - homes are private. Dress conservatively. Try and offer to help the hostess with the preparation or clearing up after a meal is served. This will be turned down but is nonetheless polite. Do not discuss business. Reciprocate any hospitality received. Table Manners Table manners are relatively formal in Estonia. Remain standing until invited to sit down. Table manners are Continental, i.e. the fork is held in the left hand and the knife in the right while eating. Do not begin eating until the hostess starts or someone says "head isu" ("good appetite"). Avoid resting your elbows of the table. Compliment the hostess on the meal. Try to finish everything on your plate. Business Meeting & Greeting Estonians are quite formal and may not come across as quote cold or even friendly to

The sounds of languages can be produced by: pushing air out of the lungs through the vocal tract (pulmonic, egressive) sucking the air into the mouth (ingressive) NB! Without air we cannot produce sound. There are two classes of sounds: consonants vowels Consonants are produced with some restriction or closure in the vocal tract that impedes the flow of air from the lungs. Vowels are produced so that the airstream is relatively unobstructed. NB! Any speech sound will always exhibit two components in some form or other: An activity that initiates a flow of air (i.e. initiation, lungs as initiators) An activity that modulates or articulates the air-stream, thus generating a specific type of sound Vowel and Consonant The difference between vowel and consonant is: in the way they are produced (phonetics) in their distribution, i.e. the different contexts and positions in which particular

Theatres in Tallinn

In Estonia there are many theatres. Tallinn has 8 theatres. Most of them are located in the Old Town or near the Old Town. These 8 theatres are: Estonian National Opera, Tallinn City Theatre, Estonian Drama Theatre, Estonian State Puppet & Youth Theatre, Russian Drama Theatre, VAT Theatre, Theatre NO99 and Von Krahl Theatre. Estonian National Opera The song and drama society `'Estonia'' was founded in 1865. Play-acting started in 1871. The following theatre activites were relatively haphazard, theatre as a tradition really came into being since 1895, when the society began to direct song plays, folk plays and comedies, usually with singing and dancing; in the start of the XX century already saw more serious drama on the stage. In year 1906 Paul Pinna and Theodor Altermann founded a professional theatre called `'Estonia''. Since 1998, it is called The Estonian National Opera and operates as a body governed by public

In addition, Estonia is not only kown as „e-country“ but it has also resources like arable land and wood which help along developing the country’s economy. Estonia’s large amount of forests favours development of forestry and wood industry. Estonian forests relatively rapid growth (forest area has grown in the last half-century two times and the forest reserves by 2.5 times) allows using the wood without endangering the regenerative capacity of the forest. Other real important resource is also oil shade. Estonia manages to produce its own energy by mining every year about 15 million tonnes of oil shade having its findings about 0.4% of world’s total. These two are currently the largest industries in the country providing services

3 Energy Dividends You Can Still Trust

That history showcases that the company has a good record of surviving and rewarding shareholders during some pretty tough times in the oil patch. 2. ExxonMobil's dividends are still very well covered by its operating cash flow. It generated nearly $9.2 billion in cash from operations in the quarter ending Sept. 30, 2015, and only around $3.1 billion of that went to pay dividends. ExxonMobil is reducing its capital spending in response to the current relatively low oil prices, but due to the timing and placement of existing capital projects, it still has new production coming on line over the next few years. Production is what allows ExxonMobil to pay its dividends, and that looks very likely to continue, even with today's oil prices. 3. ExxonMobil boasts a AAA debt rating an indication of an exceptionally solid balance sheet. With a debttoequity ratio around a very low 0.2 to go along with that

Germany GDP per capita is 46 268.64 USD while Estonian GDP per capita is 28 781 USD The GDP value of Germany represents 6.21% of the world economy. The unemployment rate in Germany is 4.7% which is considerably lower than in Estonia. The minimum wage in Germany is 1473 eur per month. It is over three times the minimum wage in Estonia. Germany is on 15th spot on cost of living index by country 2016 which is not much higher than Estonia. Compared to Estonia, the German soil is relatively poor in raw materials. Conclusion Estonian economic state is acceptable. Although Estonian population is rather small, Estonia has come a long way in technology with innovative ideas and products. The statistics show that Estonia can compete with many other countries. I do not think there is anything specific I would change about Estonia.

It can be recognized that sunken gardens or other light-searching architectural elements will require substantial space to be fully effective. A recent study of such underground architectural spaces notes that many of the kinds of space with which we are dealing, would, “because of the dominant modes of activity within them, require relief by physical or visual connection to adjacent high activity areas or the external environment, or both. Characteristic occupancy of such spaces would by relatively secondary and routinized. Characteristic examples of such spaces would be conference centers, classrooms, and offices” (superscript 1 here). It is our judgment that the quantity and quality of natural light and external views deemed adequate for underground spaces in the Northern Pointe Development cannot be established with certainty, owing to the preliminary nature of this study and the large number of unresolved controlling factors.

Acid Rain

Acid deposition may influence forest vegetation and soils. It removes soil nutrients such as calcium and magnesium from soils in high elevation forests. Acid rain may also help weaken natural defenses of some trees, making them more vulnerable to some diseases and pests. Acid rain wears away the waxy protective coating of leaves, damaging them and preventing them from being able to photosynthesize properly. Many animals and insects are sensitive to acidification. Frogs are relatively tolerant of low pH, but the insects upon which they feed are not. Lichens, mosses and fungi are also particularly sensitive to acid deposition. Acid rain may lead to increases in nitrogen in forests. Nitrogen is important plant nutrient, but it some situations it leads to nitrogen saturation. Nitrates can remove additional calcium and magnesium from the soils. Social effects Humans can become seriously ill, even die from the effects of acid rain

(Finland: Insight compact guides) 2 Climate The climate in Southern Finland is a northern temperate climate. In Northern Finland, particularly in the Province of Lapland, a subarctic climate dominates, characterised by cold, occasionally severe, winters and relatively warm summers. The main factor influencing Finland's climate is the country's geographical position between the 60th and 70th northern parallels in the Eurasian continent's coastal zone, which shows characteristics of both a maritime and a continental climate, depending on the direction of air flow. Finland is near enough to the Atlantic Ocean to be continuously warmed by the Gulf Stream, which explains the unusually warm climate considering the absolute latitude.

In reaching its recommended best practice approach – the fixed ratio rule - the OECD has put great work into comparative analyses of different metrics, definitions, existing practices and risks. In the Final Report it explains thoroughly how it arrived at fixed ratio rule as the most promising but still relatively non-complex metrics. First, many countries already use the general interest or debt limitation rule for the purpose of limiting the tax deductibility of interest expenses, therefore there already was experience to learn from. In analyzing the different routes – interest expense versus debt as a base, the OECD proposes the former because it would be less complicated to control. Second, the OECD analyses different metrics to

Pushkin revolutionized Russian literature by rejecting archaic grammar and vocabulary (so-called -- "high style") in favor of grammar and vocabulary found in the spoken language of the time. Even modern readers of younger age may only experience slight difficulties understanding some words in Pushkin's texts, since relatively few words used by Pushkin have become archaic or changed meaning. In fact, many expressions used by Russian writers of the early 19th century, in particular Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov ( ), Nikolai Gogol ( ), Aleksander Griboyedov ( ), became proverbs or sayings which can be frequently found even in modern Russian colloquial speech. Most types of truck air brakes are drum units, though there is an increasing trend towards the use of disc brakes in this application. The compressed air brakes system works by drawing filtered air from the atmosphere, compressing it, and holding it in high-pressure reservoirs at around 120 PSI. When needed for braking, this high pressure air is routed to the operating cylinders on the brakes, which ...

Ticket No1 1)The characteristic is called output characteristic or volt-ampere charateristic of a Rectifier Diode. 2)Rectifier Diode. 3) A is called Anode and C is called Cathode. An Anode has positive potential and therefore collects electrons in the device. Cathode has negative potential and therefore emits electrons to anode. The symbol looks like an arrow that ponts from the anode to the cathode, and reminds that conventional current flows easily from the p side(anode) to the n side(cathode). BIASING. Forward biasing. If the current in a diode is too large, excessive heat will destroy the device. Even approaching the burnout current value without reaching it can shorten its life. Therefore manufacturer's data sheet specifies the maximum forward current, that diode can withstand. This average current IF is the rate a diode can handle up to the forward direction when used a...

Hamelti tegelased (Ingilse keeles)

Hamlet WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Character List Hamlet - The Prince of Denmark, the title character, and the protagonist. About thirty years old at the start of the play, Hamlet is the son of Queen Gertrude and the late King Hamlet, and the nephew of the present king, Claudius. Hamlet is melancholy, bitter, and cynical, full of hatred for his uncle's scheming and disgust for his mother's sexuality. A reflective and thoughtful young man who has studied at the University of Wittenberg, Hamlet is often indecisive and hesitant, but at other times prone to rash and impulsive acts. Hamlet (In-Depth Analysis) Claudius - The King of Denmark, Hamlet's uncle, and the play's antagonist. The villain of the play, Claudius is a calculating, ambitious politician, driven by his sexual appetites and his lust for power, but he occasionally shows signs of guilt and human feeling--his love for Gertrude, for instance, seems sincere. Claudius (In-Depth Ana...

Analüüs Swifti kirjandusest inglise keeles

Lilliput to live with their enemies. Furthermore, satire is shown through the plot of journey and return. The Lilliputians symbolize humankind's widely excessive pride in its own puny existence because, in spite of the small size of the Lilliputians, they do not consider the notion that Gulliver is enormous compared to them and could kill them with just a flick of his finger. Gulliver has learned that their society suffers from the same flaws inherent in the English society (rebellions over relatively minor issues), but their society is more utopian compared to the English society. WIKI Lilliput and Blefuscu were intended as, and understood to be, satirical portraits of the kingdom of Great Britain and the kingdom ofFrance, respectively, as they were in the early 18th century. Only the internal politics of Lilliput are described in detail; these are parodies of British politics, in which the great central issues of the day are belittled and reduced to unimportance.

TRADERUN ANSWERS

European Council shall be taken into account". Bearing in mind the traditional lack of democratic principles in post-communist and post-soviet states, the political criteria of a functioning democracy, rule of law, and protection of human and minority rights met the strongest obstacles in the Central Eastern European countries and are currently the most problematic areas in the ENP countries. On the other hand after the dismay of planned economies, the requirement for a free market was relatively easier to meet despite some hardships in change of management styles and ownership in the process of transferring to free market economy. In the case of the 2004 and 2007 enlargements the closure of all acquischapters required lengthy process of negotiations and domestic adjustments. 5.Which are the most updated EU documents to describe ENP and EaP policy goals and tools? Progress reports on implementation of the European Neighbourhood Policy.

Never in the history of surveying have their been so many alternatives for collecting survey data, nor has there been so much heterogeneity in the use of survey methods across countries. Heterogeneity also exists within countries as surveyors attempt to match survey modes to the difficulties associated with finding and obtaining response to particular survey populations. Yet, all surveys face a common challenge, which is how to produce precise estimates by surveying only a relatively small proportion of the larger population, within the limits of the social, economic and technological environments associated with countries and survey populations in countries. This chapter is about solving these common problems that we described as the cornerstones of surveying. When understood and responded to, the cornerstone challenges will assure precision in the pursuit of one’s survey objectives. 1.2 What is a survey?

Ireland report

S. citizens who sought to move to Ireland for work. Sport Gaelic football, hurling and football are the most popular sports in Ireland.[19] Along with Camogie, Ladies' Gaelic football, handball and rounders, they make up the national sports of Ireland, collectively known as Gaelic Games. All GAA players, even at the highest level, are amateurs and receive no wages. Golf is a popular sport in Ireland and golf tourism is a major industry. Culture Literature and the arts For an island of relatively small population, Ireland has made a disproportionately large contribution to world literature in all its branches, mainly in English. Poetry in Irish represents the oldest vernacular poetry in Europe with the earliest examples dating from the 6th century; Jonathan Swift, still often called the foremost satirist in the English language, was wildly popular in his day and remains so in modern times amongst both children and adults. Tartu ajalugu

Throughout centuries the centre of town activity has been Town Hall Square, the history of which goes back to ancient times. At that time the market place was the square lying between the fortress on Toome Hill and the harbour on the banks of the Emajõgi River. This tradition persisted for centuries. During the midieval period the Town Hall was built here. The present building is the third one in the same place. Compared with the long history of Tartu, the buildings are relatively young: it is rare to find buildings originating from earlier than the last quarter of the 18th century. This is due to the many wars and fires which have passed over the town. During the Great Fire of 1775, nearly the entire town centre burned to the ground. Just after that fire the town began to take on the appearance that it displays today, and the Town Hall building originates from that time. Town Hall

Kosmilised kiired

This can tell us a lot about the GCR sources and the cosmic rays' trip through the Galaxy. The "composition" of cosmic rays describes what fraction of cosmic rays are protons, what fraction are helium nuclei, etc. All of the natural elementsin the periodic table are present in cosmic rays, in roughly the same proportion as they occur in the solar system. But detailed differences provide a "fingerprint" of the cosmic ray's source. Measuring the quantity of each different element is relatively easy, since the different charges of each nucleus give very different signatures. Harder to measure, but a better fingerprint, is the isotopic composition (nuclei of the same element but with different numbers of neutrons). To tell the isotopes apart involves, in effect, weighing each atomic nucleus that enters the cosmic ray detector. About 90% of the cosmic ray nuclei are hydrogen (protons), about 9% are helium (alpha particles), and all of the rest of the elements make up only 1%

the United States. Giving birth in El Paso (US side) would deliver their children a precious advantage: it would make them Americans. Any child born at Arnold's birth center would possess American citizenship, courtesy of the 14th Amendment, and with it the ability to cross freely back and forth. El Paso, with its large, willing, cash-paying clientele, made an ideal destination for students. Though heightened security has put an end to the easier days, it is relatively easy for a resident of Juárez to obtain a U.S. border-crossing card, which permits short trips for social visits or shopping, and there is nothing illegal about crossing while pregnant -- at least for now. While American nationality has always been a desirable asset in Juárez, it has become much more valuable -- sometimes a matter of life and death -- since the drug violence erupted in earnest three years ago. The children

least the last 2000 years. The first bridge on record was constructed by the Romans, and since then many bridges have risen at the hands of various empires. London Bridge today remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in Britain as well as an icon for the City of London. London Bridge history records the building of a wooden bridge by the Romans about 2000 years ago. Historians suspect that the location was chosen for its relatively convenient access to the deeper ocean waters, as well as the excellent land conditions available for bridge building. The home of the London Bridge as it appeared in Roman times was in virtually the same spot as the home of the London Bridge today, suspended over the Thames River. The Romans were not the only people in London Bridge history to construct a wooden bridge. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the Saxons were known to have built at least one, if not many (due to

Free variaton of R, and it was pronounced everywhere. Very much Germanic in character. Quite some special consonants that no longer exist. About morphology: synthetic with numerous aglutinating tendencies. System of tenses Germanic, but with a reduction of tenses. Paradigmatic leveling; Stress shift; Word order; Loan words (Old Norse, Old French). Dual pronouns. Determiners - no separate definite article. Strong and weak verbs. Word order relatively free with tendencies towards SVO. SVO, SOV, VSO most common. Adposition and podposition were both possible (eesliide ja tagaliide). About syntax: clauses were joined much simpler than nowadays, using and, then etc. Because of case syncretion the word order in a sentence became much more important to be able to tell the difference between words. FIRST CONSONANT SHIFT (GRIMM'S LAW) Grimm's Law (also known as the First Germanic Sound Shift or Rask's rule) is a set of statements

Rational Use of Diagnostic Tests

always obtained, and a biopsy may need to be performed to achieve a definitive diagnosis. Useful characteristics of diagnostic tests Accuracy and Precision Accuracy is the measure of a test result's accordance with results determined by a gold standard. It is the frequency with which a given test correctly identifies a patient as having a disease, or put another way, how closely the mean of test data points accords to the mean of the reference standard. A test with high diagnostic accuracy has relatively few false results in comparison to true results. Precision is the measure of a test result's reproducibility. If repeated testing is performed on an individual patient's sample, the results from each testing should be similar to each other if the test is, in fact, precise. For instance, if a white blood cell count from an individual patient is run 2 to 3 times on a particular hematology analyzer, the results would be considered

This dead material is being slowly digested by the fungi, insects, and bacteria that live here. Temperate Grasslands: Calcification is the dominant soil-forming process in semiarid regions. When this process works on a loess that itself is rich in calcium, the world's most fertile soils are created, the chernozems (A Russian term meaning black soil). Taiga: The low temperatures inhibit bacterial and fungal action, so the decomposition rate is low and the leaf litter relatively deep. The soil in the taiga is thin, acidic and not very nutrient rich. It also is rocky. 6. What is permafrost? In geology, permafrost, cryotic soil or permafrost soil is soil at or below the freezing point of water (0 °C or 32 °F) for two or more years. Ice is not always present, as may be in the case of nonporous bedrock, but it frequently occurs and it may be in amounts exceeding the potential hydraulic saturation of the ground material. 7. downtown was one of the results of the battle. Having acquired North Estonia again in 1238, King Valdemar of Denmark appointed the Toompea church the cathedral of the Tallinn bishopric, which was formed in 1240, and subordinated to the archdiocese of Lund. The cathedral chapter was established at the cathedral consecrated to St. Mary the Virgin and a school was formed at the church in 1319 at the latest. The reconstruction of the initally one-nave and relatively modest church into a three- nave one started at the beginning of the 14 th century and lasted approximately a hundred years. This period includes another change of power, resulting in Tallinn's subordination to the order one more time. Although the main building of the church dates back to those times, the medieval cathedral was quite different from the present appearance. For example, the tower on the western side of the church was built only in the 18 th century, the

cultural diversity of different nations in Canada. All the communities living in the country are encouraged to remember their origins and hold their own ethnic events and national festivals. Cultural diversity makes Canada even more interesting. In spite of this, in recent years there is a strong movement in Frenchspeaking Quebec to become an independent country. 8. Natives Canada is a relatively young country whose recorded history goes back less than 500 years. When the European settlers arrived, Canada was already populated by a diverse range of aboriginal peoples, Indians and Inuit, who are thought to have arrived from Asia 10 3000 years ago by crossing a land bridge formed between Siberia and Alaska during the last ice age. It is believed that the ancestors of Canadian Inuit were inland hunters who adapted their lifestyle to new conditions
