Terrorism and fighting against it

Terrorism and fighting against it Terrorism is not new and even though it has been used since the beginning of recorded history it can be relatively hard to define. Terrorism has been described differently as both a tactic and strategy; a crime and a holy duty; a justified reaction to oppression and an unforgivable abomination. Obviously, a lot depends on whose point of view it is being represented. Terrorism has often been an effective tactic for the weaker side in a conflict. Terrorism is most common in nations with the average political freedom, and is least common in the most democratic nations.

Monopoly

· The conditions of entry or barriers to entry (BTE) are also important determinants of market power. If there are significant BTE, a firm or firms may be able to sustain above normal profits over time because other firms are prevented from entry to capture the above normal profits. Monopoly is the market structure that is usually associated with the greatest market power. · The monopolist produces a good with no close substitutes(increased probability the demand is relatively inelastic) and there are barriers to entry. Firms in monopolistic competition or imperfectly competitive markets are more likely to have limited market power because there are many firms with differentiated products (there are substitutes) and there is relative ease of entry and exit into the market Market power is the ability of an agent to influence the price of a good they sell or buy and to alter the allocation of resources. Water Purification

Service Reservoir A reservoir from which water is conveyed to homes, factories, and other destinations according to the amount of water that is consumed. Rapid sand filtration First, to quickly remove the impurities from the raw water, a coagulant is added, forming the impurities into large clumps that settle to the bottom. After this process, the water passes through a coarse sand layer in a filter bed, which cleanly removes the impurities. This method is effective even when the raw water is relatively turbid, and can be used to treat large amounts of water using only a small area of land. Slow sand filtration First, the flow of raw water is slowed considerably to allow impurities to settle naturally. The water then passes through a relatively fine sand layer in a filter bed to filter it. However, the water is actually purified through the decomposition action of microorganisms that exist on the surface of the sand layer.

Henry's Law · When a mixture of gases is in contact with a liquid, each gas will dissolve in the liquid in proportion to its partial pressure. · Greater concentration of gas, the more and faster that gas will go into solution in the liquid. · How much gas dissolves in liquid depends on: solubility of the gas in the liquid temperature of the liquid. Did You Know...? The solubility of a gas in blood and the temperature of blood are relatively constant. Differences in the partial pressures of gases in the aveoli and in the blood create a pressure gradient across the respiratory membrane. This difference in pressures leads to diffusion of gases across the respiratory membrane. The greater the pressure gradient, the more rapidly oxygen diffuses across it. Geothermal energy Geothermal energy is the heat from the Earth. It's clean and sustainable. It can be extracted without burning a fossil fuel such as coal, gas, or oil. Geothermal fields produce only about onesixth of the carbon dioxide that a relatively clean naturalgasfueled power plant produces. Unlike solar and wind energy, geothermal energy is always available, 365 days a year. It's relatively inexpensive. There are three types of geothermal power plants: dry steam, flash, and binary. Geothermal energy is generated in over 20 countries. The United States is the world's largest producer. In Iceland, many of the buildings and even swimming pools are heated with geothermal hot water. Fast Development of modern technology- a blessing or a curse?

As is known to all, each coin has two sides. When we are enjoying the remarkable wonders which science and technology has brought us, we are suffering at the same time from a lot of troubles. For example, environmental pollution, noise, green-house effect and nuclear weapons are the things we did not need to bother about in the past. But these problems nowadays are not only making our life inconvenient, but even dangerous. In my opinion, humans are now relatively more powerful. So it is up to men to decide what we should do and what we shouldn't. It is our duty to make science and technology serve human beings better and better. In consequence, we are faced with a glorious task ---- to build a magnificent new civilization by means of advanced science and technology. Only then can we expect to make the development of science and technology a blessing rather than a curse.

Conventional medicine has little to learn from alternative medicine

treatment is strongly needed. For example, in a case of a heart attack or a severed limb, it is vital to find a way to a hospital or surgeon in a hurry. Unlike alternative medicine, conventional medicine has proven effectiveness and is scientifically based, while alternative medicine has a lack of scientific basis and its results are not always consistent. On the other hand, alternative medicine is better when having relatively mild condition, such as headaches, then a doctor would probably write out pain killers. Not much help in the long term. Alternative medicine is also the last chance, when having an untreatable condition, like cancer. Conventional medicine seeks to solve problems by masking or eliminating symptoms, which is not always the best solution, because it does not reveal the real cause of the pain. In conclusion, conventional medicine has a lot to learn from alternative medicine. It is also

Essey: Capital Punishment

In this case, capital punishment looks like senseless cruelty. A number of states had already passed legislation adopted by the Supreme Court in June 2002 prohibiting such executions to this group of people. As for juvenile delinquents, we should admit their lack of maturity thus they may be less culpable than adults who commit crimes. Ultimately, the death penalty is an utter denial of human rights. It implies that killing is acceptable under certain circumstances. Relatively few developed countries in the world impose the death penalty. Japan and South Korea are the only established democracies in the world, other than the US, which still conduct executions. The execution rate in Japan is a small fraction of that in the US. So it is high time the US society kept track with other civilized countries which value individual life and liberty above all else, where justice, not vengeance, is the only guiding principle of the system of criminal law

INGLISKEELNE TRANSMISSIONI TÖÖPÕHIMÕTE

TRANSMISSION 1. A transmission or gearbox provides speed and torque conversions from a rotating power source to another device using gear ratios. The most common use is in motor vehicles, where the transmission adapts the output of the internal combustion engine to the drive wheels. Such engines need to operate at a relatively high rotational speed, which is inappropriate for starting, stopping, and slower travel. The transmission reduces the higher engine speed to the slower wheel speed, increasing torque in the process.. While a differential may also provide gear reduction, its primary purpose is to change the direction of rotation. Many manual transmissions include both synchronized and unsynchronized gearing; it is not uncommon for the first/reverse gear to lack synchros

Bees

and the latter primarily for protein and other nutrients. Most pollen is used as food for larvae. Bees have a long proboscis (a complex "tongue") that enables them to obtain the nectar from flowers. They have antennae almost universally made up of 13 segments in males and 12 in females, as is typical for the superfamily. Bees all have two pairs of wings, the hind pair being the smaller of the two; in a very few species, one sex or caste has relatively short wings that make flight difficult or impossible, but none is wingless. The best-known bee species is the European honey bee, which, as its name suggests, produces honey, as do a few other types of bee. Human management of this species is known as beekeeping or apiculture. Despite the honey bee's painful sting and the stereotype of insects as pests, bees are generally held in high regard. This is most likely due to their usefulness as pollinators and as producers

Eating habits in Estonia

Traditional Estonian food has its roots firmly in the countryside, relying heavily on pork, potatoes and garden variety vegetables. The main culinary influences were from Germans, who ruled over Estonia for so many centuries. The eating habits of the Estonian population are related to the season, which severely affect the availability of fresh food. The spring and summer are the seasons of fresh food, in this period are used vegetables, berries and herbs, with the warmer climate the Estonians also like to cook meat grilled outdoors. During the winter are used mushrooms, jams, and preserved foods. Among the typical Estonian dishes are: Baltic fish in acid sauce, pork with sauerkraut and boiled potatoes, blood sausage and barley, marinade anguilla, boiled pork in jelly, tongue, smoked fish and a kind of dry cake-like barley bread. How much do you know about biology?

How much do you know about biology? What is biology? Biology is a natural science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy.[1] Biology is a vast subject containing many subdivisions, topics, and disciplines. Although biology in its modern form is a relatively recent development, sciences related to and included within it have been studied since ancient times. Natural philosophy was studied as early as the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Indian subcontinent, and China. Much of modern biology can be encompassed within five unifying principles: cell theory, evolution, genetics, homeostasis, and energy. Cell theory states that the cell is the fundamental

Ghana

Ghana Ghana, country of western Africa, situated on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea. Although relatively small in area and population, Ghana is one of the leading countries of Africa, partly because of its considerable natural wealth and partly because it was the first black African country south of the Sahara to achieve independence from colonial rule. In addition to being known for its lush forests, diverse animal life, and miles of sandy beaches along a picturesque coast, Ghana is also celebrated for its rich history--its habitation possibly dating from 10,000 BC--and as a fascinating repository of cultural heritage. The country takes it name from the great medieval trading empire that was located northwest of the modern-day state until its demise in the 13th century. Direct sea trade with Europe, established in the 15th century, had much impact on the area's inhabitants, many of whom actively...

Cinema is the most restricitve medium

decision to give the best viewing experience which would also make sense but the audience have to be educated enough to see the meaning behind the shots, the dialogue, imagery and put together bigger picture. Furthermore, not everyone will be able to go the cinema. The travel cost, if they live far from the cinema, ticket price, lack of cinemas overall etc will limit cinemas grasp on the society compared to books, which are relatively cost efficient, easy to distribute and mostly always available in the libraries. In my opinion, cinema is rather a medium of opportunities. Driving to the cinema, watching a movie is relatively easy, at least in Estonia. It requires only two hours of my day, few euros and all i have to do is sit and watch. I agree, technically and timewise, cinema is limited as medium and has an obligation by default to be entertaining but recently filmmakers have start
