In poetry, personification is achieved also by addressing the object. If personification is associated with symbolic or didactic tendencies, it becomes allegory. It has a definite communicative aim and its own system of interrelated language and stylistic means. The aim of communication in this style of language is to reach agreement between two contracting parties (the state and the citizen, or citizen and citizen, etc.). The most general function of the style of official documents predetermines the peculiarities of the style. The most striking is the system of clichés, terms and set expressions by which each substyle can be easily recognized (e.g. Dear Sir, we remain; I be to inform you). There is also a common feature the use of abbreviations, conventional symbols and contractions (M.P. = Member of Parliament; ltd. = limited, gvt = government). Abbreviations are particularly abundant in military documents and used as signs of the military code. Another feature is the use of words in their logical dictionary meaning. Words with emotive meaning are not to be bound in the style of
