luLUGEMISHARJUMUSED TALLINNA REAALKOOLI ERI VANUSES ÕPILASTE SEAS

väärtused ei pruugi kehtida teiste koolide õpilaste hulgas, on selge, et just lugemisharjumuste muutumise kohta tehtud üldiseid järeldusi saab laiendada kogu Eesti õpilaskonnale. 58 SUMMARY The topic of this research project is "Reading Habits among Pupils of Various Age Groups in Tallinn Secondary Science School". The problem is very acute as nowadays pupils tend to spend more time using the Internet which leaves less time for reading. The main purpose of this research is to find out the connections between pupils' age and reading habits. To make broader conclusions, not only books, but also Internet-based media, newspapers and other periodicals are considered. To collect the necessary data, a questionnaire was conducted among pupils of the 5th, 8th and 11th grade, the aim of which was to get a diverse and detailed overview of reading habits. During the analysis, boys' and girls' answers were separated

Presentatsioon Corporate Financial Management

Corporate Financial Management Glen Arnold Book Review Introduction Reading this book you will receive a brief overview of the financial world and its components. This review considers the most fundamental question facing anyone trying to make decisions within an organization what is the objective of the business? Without clarity on this point it is very difficult to run a business in a purposeful and effective manner. In addition, a brief rundown is given of both primitive and modern economies and the role of the financial manager within an organization. The objective of the firm When people have to make choices in the harsh environment in which modern businesses have to operate, it is necessary to be clear about the purpose of the organization; to be clear about what objective is set for management to achieve. It is imperative that the management teams are aware ...

Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit Character Sketch

Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit - Jeanette Winterson Character Sketch – Louie Louie is a mother of Jeanette, the narrator of the novel. She plays an important role in the life of the main character. She was plump and pretty. Drunkards, she used to urge to join her at the church, called her the Jesus Belle. She was loved by men and attracted attention, many of drunkards stopped in the street when Jeanette’s mother walked past and raised their hats to her. She was very religious person. Louie considered church as her family more than her own family. “My mother stood up and said she believed this was right: that women had specific circumstances for their ministry, that the Sunday School was one of them, the Sisterhood another, but the message belonged to the men.” She believed that praying could solve all the problems and people like her were meant to be separated fr...

Jane Eyre

She found out that the Thornfield had burned down. She found out that Rochester’s wife died during the fire and Rochester lost his eyesight and one of his hands, saving the servants. Jane traveled to Rochester’s new residence, Ferndean, where he lived with two servants named John and Mary. At Ferndean Jane and Rochester got to together once again. At the end of the story Jane and Rochester married and had their first son. Rochester also regained sight in one eye. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was always interesting and exiting. I think that the most exiting part of the book was, when Jane heard that Rochester had wife, who was greasy and the reason of the fire in Rochester’s room. I liked that it wasn’t just a blame love story, it was pretty different from the others. I also liked the century of the story when there were no phones and texting, when people still had to write to their loved ones.

Eclipse 11th chapter (legends) - kokkuvõte

Bella feels an affinity towards the third wife and falls asleep thinking of her. Jacob calls Edward and Charlie for her, both to keep her out of trouble as well as ensure additional time with her as a reward for "playing nice." Jacob takes Bella to meet Edward, who is pacing while he waits for her. Edward takes Bella home and stays with her. Bella has a bad dream in which Rosalie is fighting Billy Black in his wolf form and sees the Third Wife's knife in her own hand. She wakes to find Edward reading Wuthering Heights, a novel he previously claimed to dislike. As he lulls her back to sleep, he tells her that she is awakening human emotions in him, and that he can now relate to Heathcliff as he couldn't before. The next morning, Bella remembers what Edward said, and finds her book open to Heathcliff's declaration that he could never hurt Catherine by killing her husband, though he longs to do so. She talks herself into discounting the passage as being indicative of the change in

Education

Education Education is so multifaceted that it is difficult for me to know where to begin discussing it, or how to prioritize the many factors. Relaying my own experience is easy: I had a standard classroom approach, supplemented by inordinate reading. In only the briefest and least memorable instances did I receive any individual tutoring. Education is commonly thought of as the job of schools. Adults cry "educate our children!" Everyone has opinions about the best way to do the job. It is of urgent importance, and all the numerous factors are much studied, debated, and new (or old) ideas continually tested or retested. Some people say "it's as simple as . . . " and then name their pet peeve or passion. My

abandoned children, the physically and mentally sick, the disabled, the elderly and unmarried mothers. The idea of workhouses was kind of good, but in reality, there were several problems with them. The government, terrified of encouraging 'idlers' (lazy people), made sure that people feared the workhouse and would do anything to keep out of it. The problems included poor education system for children(teachers uninspired and low paid, children weren't taught reading and writing), physically demanding jobs(breaking rocks and so on; very detrimental to health) and long, 10-hour workdays; women, children and men had different living and working areas in the workhouse, so families were split up. To make things even worse they could be punished if they even tried to speak to one another! The food was tasteless and the same day after day. Children could also find themselves 'hired out' (sold) to work in factories or mines

Hemingway A Farewell to Arms (main characters)

Analysis of Major Characters Frederic Henry - In the sections of the novel in which he describes his experience in the war, Henry portrays himself as a man of duty. He attaches to this understanding of himself no sense of honor, nor does he expect any praise for his service. Even after he has been severely wounded, he discourages Rinaldi from pursuing medals of distinction for him. Time and again, through conversations with men like the priest, Ettore Moretti, and Gino, Henry distances himself from such abstract notions as faith, honor, and patriotism. Concepts such as these mean nothing to him beside such concrete facts of war as the names of the cities in which he has fought and the numbers of decimated streets. Against this bleak backdrop, Henry's reaction to Catherine Barkley is rather astonishing. The reader understands why Henry responds to the game that Catherine proposes--why he pledges his love to a woman he barely kn...

page. I would really like to know what happens next and I would definitely read the sequel to know what is going to happen with Annie, Grace and Pilgrim. The weakness of the book was that it was a little too easy to read. Usually I notice the hidden message but I did not found it this time. Some places were also a little boring to read when the author was describing places too long. But in the end I was truly surprised after reading the book because as I don't like horses a lot I just thought that it is a stupid book about a horse. But it was not bad at all. Actually it was quite interesting and I am thinking about watching the movie also. But still it was not so good that I would like to read it over and over like some books. But when people are interested in fiction book it is a great book to read.

Irish history

Irish History Tallinn 2009 Ireland is the third-largest island in Europe, and the twentieth-largest island in the world. It lies to the north-west of continental Europe and is surrounded by hundreds of islands and islets. To the east of Ireland, separated by the Irish Sea, is the island of Great Britain. Politically, the state Ireland (described as the Republic of Ireland) covers five-sixths of the island, with Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom, covering the remainder in the north-east. The first settlements in Ireland date from 8000 BC. By 200 BC Celtic migration and influence had come to dominate the island. Relatively small scale settlement by both the Vikings and Normans in the Middle Ages gave way to complete English domination by the 1600s. Protestant English rule resulted in the marginalisation of the Catholic majority, although in the north-east, Protestants were in the majority. A famine in the mid-1800s...

Identity as a personal project

Identity as a personal project How could be one identity created? Or is it creating itself? Or, maybe, every child is born with some kind of identity? There are many theories about what identity is and how it is developing, so in this essay I want to discuss A. Giddens´ text and my reflection about his theory. “It's like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.” Patrick Rothfuss When talking about identity, it´s creation is a very important moment. To understand it, I was always thinking practically – I created a character, like in a movie or a book. What should happen first with the character, what factors influence the creation of individual identity? I agree to Giddens – person isn´t born with identity, everyone has to build and deve...

This helps you realise that the person reading your letter is a real human being with feelings, trying to do their job to the best of their abilities. Your letter should encourage them to respond positively and helpfully to the complaint. No matter how mad you feel, aggression and confrontation does not encourage a helpful reaction to complaints. Good complaints letters with the above features tend to produce better outcomes: - Concise letters can be understood quickly.

and will be flying to Brussels in spring. From these moments on, i realised that you can only get somewhere if you do something yourself. I would not have had these opportunities if i would have just waited for good luck. It made me think, what i would like to do in the future and where to be. I already knew, that my dream was to study abroad, and after Brussels it came to me. I wanted to study something that influences many lives in a positive way. So to further my intrests, i started reading books written by successful people-Robert T.Kiyosaki, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Branson, Robin Sharma. I believe that these people are not only successful in business, they just know how to influence others in a positive way, how to make smart decisions and live an amazing life. From these books you learn how to be a great professional and how important really a great education is in order to understand the world as a system and to handle it in the way you like it.

Minimaailm

Läänes on läbi aegade pargid ja aiad olnud pigem planeeritud olema seoses kokkukuuluvate hoonetega, harva on näha aedu, kus inimkäsi on vähe tajutav. Minnes mõtetes aasia poole, meenuvad pigem metsiku muljega aiakesed, kus ebasümmeetrilise ruumi mõõtmeid on keeruline tajuda, elemendid on paika pandud suure hoolikusega ning kujundatud aiad on harmoonilised ja mõjuvad loomulike keskondadena, mõningate inimeste poolt lisatud elementidega. Jaapani aedades on keeruline aimata, kui vana on aed, kuna aia kujundamine on kinni teatud kommetes ja kaanonites. Siingi on kujundamisel väga oluline kokkusobivus ja harmoonia hoonet...

Introduction and history of the European Union

Implementing acts are scrutinised by EU governments through the system known as comitology. How it is born: The Commission submits a legislative proposal to the Parliament and Council. At the first reading Parliament adopts its position. If the Council approves the Parliament's wording then the act is adopted. If not, it shall adopt its own position and pass it back to Parliament with explanations. The Commission also informs Parliament of its position on the matter. At the second reading, the act is adopted if Parliament approves the Council's text or fails to take a decision. The Parliament may reject the Council's text, leading to a failure of the law, or modify it and pass it back to the Council. The Commission gives its opinion once more. Where the Commission has rejected amendments in its opinion, the Council must act unanimously rather than by majority. If, within three months of receiving Parliament's new text the Council approves it, then it is

Idealization of nature in Romantic poetry

And the waves clasp one another; No sister flower would be forgiven, If it disdained it's brother; And the sunlight clasps the earth, And the moonbeams kiss the sea;-- What are all these kissings worth, If thou kiss not me? The woman is forced to abandon her own principles because Nature feels something other it is as good as to say if nature does this, so must you. As much as I find the idealization of nature in romantic poetry a bit exaggerated, I have nevertheless enjoyed reading most of the poems. Romantic authors do not really try to make up new and magnificent qualities for nature, rather than show the simple ones that it already has from a new and better perspective that helps the reader re-evaluate their thoughts and see a new kind of beauty in something that they are already familiar with.

Merde Actually

Merde Actually By Stephen Clarke "Merde Actually" is written by Stephen Clarke, who is a British journalist and a novelist living in Paris. When he first arrived in Paris, he experienced a cultural shock and got inspired by it. He started to keep a diary of his experiences and decided to publish it as a novel when the Anglo-French relationships were at their worst during the Iraq War spring 2003. Therefore his novels (he has written three in this series) have become enormously popular all around the world, especially because they are partly true. Stephen Clarke himself still lives in Paris with his French girlfriend. This novel is considered to be seriously funny and a comedy with a message. "Merde Actually" has one main character whose name is Paul West, but there are also many other significant characters, that come from the previous book "A Year in...

Finished topic- mass media

There is little use of colour. Popular papers are smaller, cheaper and more colourful. They have large headlines and are designed to be read quickly. When newspaper is the oldest type of media, the internet is the newest one. During the years, the importance of computers and internet has grown rapidly. Some people predict that this may mean the end of the printed word as a means of communication. The biggest advantage is that internet is the quickest way to do everyday activities, like reading the latest news, searching for information, listening to music, watching films and TV series and online shopping. One of the oldest type of entertainment is the theatre. It is a word taken from the Ancient Greeks. It means Seeing Place. A typical stage-play depends on 3 things: actions seen, words spoken and people watching and listening. The first theatres were built by the ancient Greeks. They were outdoors. There were no plays. Songs sung by a chorus told stories about gods.

Sexualisation of women in advertising

This kind of attitude will maintain the sexism in advertisements. An additional aspect of advertisements that strongly disturbs me is that the inclusion of only stereotypically beautiful women who are mainly attractive in men’s eyes. Have you not noticed that? You definitely have as it can be seen everywhere! The casting decisions made in commercials tremendously affect the young female audience reading this type of media, leading to the lowering of their self-esteem. Sadly this phenomenon can result in health problems. The Harvard Eating Disorders Center reports that 80% of women wake up each morning feeling depressed about their appearance (Johnston, 2004, paragraph 15). I have no doubt that persuasive media play a huge role in this unfortunately high percentage number.

RE English is spoken on all five continents

English speakers in America have a different accent; their spelling and pronunciation vary as well. For example, in American English any 'r' is usually pronounced. So words large, hear, hurt, and dinner would sound differently. In 1785 Noah Webster became famous by producing The American Spelling Book, which marked the real birth of American English. He was a graduate of Yale University who started his career as a teacher in a school. When teaching, reading and spelling, he lacked good materials. The only textbooks used at that time were textbooks from overseas that made no reference to the people, events, or language of America. Webster felt that an original American textbook would help inspire the sense of identity and patriotism of the younger generation. It was his belief that pupils should enjoy learning; therefore the grammar in his popular ''speller book'' was kept simple, and it contained inspiring text by American authors.

Top Gear

Top Gear It all started when BBC presented us with an idea. Every one of us had to build a British motorhome of the future, which would be practical but still look cool. Three things the motorhome had to have were sleeping accommodation, cooking facilities and a bog. We met up at Fleet to take a look at each others brilliant come ups before the challanges. As usual I came in with quite an entrance. My motorhome was by far the tallest ever built. It had three stories and looked extremely cool. After walking Hammond through my surperb motorhome I couldn't help but laughing at his. It was a hidious Land Rover which appeared from far to be covered with bricks. The ,,stone effect" was in Richards mind the Land Rover style. It literally had a bog next to the driver's seat. After having a great laugh once more over Hammonds brilliant motorhome, James May came in what appeared to be a roc...
