present - day capitals of England and Scotland stand on or near these two ancient trade centres. For money the Celts used iron bars, until they began to copy the Roman coins they saw used in Gaul (France). According to the Romans, the Celtic men wore shirts and breeches (short trousers) and striped or checked cloaks fastened by a pin. It is possible that the Scottish dress and tartan developed from this cloak.

The 4 oldest Churches in Tallinn

G2K Jaana-Kristiina Jõgevest The Four oldest churches of Tallinn Report Supervisor: Ingrid Teigar Tallinn 2009 The Dome Church The Danes began fortification of Toompea after the conquest of Tallinn in 1219 and probably also built the first church there. It was presumably a wooden building located at the site of the present cathedral. However, a serious conflict with the Order of the Brothers of the Sword broke out soon as the latter wanted to gain control of the entire Estonia. The order succeeded in subordinating Tallinn and the whole of North Estonia to its rule in 1227. The monks of the Dominican Order began the construction of a stone church in Toompea in 1229. The first written data on the cathedral date back to 1233, the date of a

in mortality rates, an increase in immigration, or an unsustainable biome and depletion of resources • Human population has been rising continuously since the end of the Black Death, around the year 1350 • The most significant increase has been since the 1950s, mainly due to medical advancements and increases in agricultural productivity • The recent rapid increase in human population over the past three centuries has raised concerns that the planet may not be able to sustain present or future numbers of inhabitants. Loss of Fresh Water • Most of the freshwater resources are either unreachable or too polluted, leaving less than 1% of the world's freshwater, or about 0.003% of all water on Earth, readily accessible for direct human use. • According to the Global Outlook for Water Resources to the Year 2025, it is estimated that by 2025, more than half of the world population will be facing water-based vulnerability and human demand for water

Haridusfilosoofia Dewey

To exemplify the principle of the linkage of the present with past, Dewey (1938) uses the example of natural science because contemporary social life is how we know it because of the application and results of physical science. He affirms that it is a sound educational principle that educators should introduce learners to scientific subject matter and its facts and laws through the familiarity with everyday social applications such as the use of appliances that utilize electricity, heat, and light. Dewey (1938) explains:

The Most Important Buildings in Lai Street in Tallinn

After the Reformation, the monastery was eliminated and in 1631 a gymnasium was founded in its rooms, but the street name remained in the form of Süsterstrasse and Cisternstrasse. It was not until the 18th century that the name Lai also started to appear. In 1872, when the street names were being fixed, Lai remained the sole name of the street. 4 1 Lai Street / 4 Nunne Street A good example of Neo-Renaissance and early Art Nouveau styles combined is Lai Street 1, the present Youth and Puppet Theatre, erected at the beginning of the 20th century as the Nobility Club. The three-storey building replaces two medieval properties. In 1784 an amateur theatre began playing in a house situated in the same place and soon became a professional German City Theatre. The famous German writer August von Kotzebue (1761-1819), the life and soul of the theatre, lived in Tallinn for several long periods. (Otto von Kotzebue, the son of August von Kotzebue,

mythological character for granting wishes, such as a genie or leprechaun. The two men are soon joined in conversation by an old man at the bar claiming that America does, named O.W. Grant; the son of aleprechaun and a Cheyenne Indian . Neal checks a number of roadmaps, but there does not appear to be an Interstate 60. Taking a guess, he sets out West, only to encounter O.W. Grant along the roadside. Grant happily greets Neal, and hands him a bag containing a 'birthday present.' The present turns out to be a Magic 8-Ball, which can answer any yes-or-no question that Neal asks it. Shortly after their meeting, Grant gives Neal some directions, and they are soon on the unlisted Interstate 60. Traveling along the mysterious highway, Neal and Grant discuss such things as the humor found in causing people to recognize the gullible side of themselves, Grant's unfortunate accident that cost him his penis, and the certainty of knowing what to wish for

Tallinn town hall

appearance in 140204. It was as early as 1248 when King Eric IV Ploughpenny of Denmark granted the Lübeck Charter to Tallinn. Relying on that document a town council was elected from amongst merchants of the Hanse and started convening in the Town Hall. It is possible to state on the basis of research findings that a meeting place of the magistracy and a goods depot in the form of a small, fortified town hall, constructed of local limestone, existed in its present location already in the mid-13th century. The town hall first mentioned in a real estate record in 1322 had a large meeting room (consistorium) and, considering the times, a huge warehouse (cellarium civitatis). Three walls and seven windows representing Tallinn's oldest secular architecture have come down to our days from that building. In the first quarter of the 14th century the existing building was extended and the basement enlarged

Canada´s history

Brunswick--were granted a constitution, the British North America Act, by the United Kingdom, creating the Dominion of Canada. The term "Canadian Confederation" refers to this 1867 unification of the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec (formerly Canada East or Lower Canada), and Ontario (formerly Canada West or Upper Canada). The remaining British colonies and territories soon joined Confederation. By 1880 Canada included all of its present area except for Newfoundland and Labrador, which joined in 1949. (It should be noted that, although part of Canada, Alberta and Saskatchewan did not gain Provincial status until 1905.) In 1919, Canada became a member of the League of Nations and, in the Imperial Conference of 1926, Canada assumed full control of its own through the Balfour Declaration. In 1927, Canada appointed its first ambassador to a foreign country, the United States. In 1931, the

Investeeringute hindamine

Report

Report A report is based on facts/data etc. The writer knows more than the reader. The reader needs the information. A report should be clear and easy to follow. The person who reads it should find the information quickly. THINK: why you are writing the report, why the reader needs your report and what she might be interested in. Think about the best way to present the facts. If it’s a report of events (e.g. a traffic accident), describe them in chronological order. It should NOT be written like a letter! NO salutation/sign-off. Impersonal style (PASSIVE!), unless you make suggestions or give personal opinion – then you can use “I”. Formal language –no contractions, slang, etc. You can use the following format at the beginning of the report: To: From: (DO NOT write your own name. A member of the student committee etc. is fine) Subject:

Toompea Toompea is the oldest and the most respectable part of the city. For centuries there was only one means of access to Toompea Pikk Jalg Street. In the middle of the 15th century the Lower Town fenced itself off with these walls from the Upper Town because of the permanent contradictions between the noblemen of Toompea and the citizens of Down Town. At the end of the street there used to be a wooden gate, in place of this a gate-tower was built at the end of the 14th century. At present Pikk Jalg Street is only for pedestrians. There still exists another gate to Toompea Short Leg. It was laid in the 15th century. The massive wooden gate with ironworks dates from the 17th century. Long Leg was used by vehicles. Until the 20th century there was no way down form the western side of Toompea except for a foot-path. The stairs were built in 1903 and are called Patkul Stairs. The name Patkul itself comes from Johann Patkul. He had worked against the Swede, so Patkul was

It was the largest building in the country and was built of imported Caen stone. It was even bigger than the present day St Paul's and its spire was the tallest ever built. When the spire was struck by lightning in the mid 16th century, it was not rebuilt. During the English Civil War and the period of the Cromwell's rule, the Commonwealth, an enormous amount of damage was done to the fabric of the building. The originated from Denmark, which was ruling Northern Estonia at that time. A similar motif was later used on the coat if arms of the Province of Estonia under Swedish rule. The most common types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Why do some people start with such harmful nutritional habits? Firstly, one reason for this could be media. Advertisers heavily market weight-reduction programs and present anorexic young models as the paradigm of sexual desirability. Also, clothes are designed and displayed for thin bodies in spite of the fact that few women could wear them successfully. Another thing to mention is genetic factors. According to studies, anorexia is eight times more common in people who have relatives with the disorder. This disease will become apparent after some kind of psychological shock.
