Russian philology

( ). It arose in the beginning of the 18th century with the modernization reforms of the Russian state under the rule of Peter the Great, and developed from the Moscow (Middle or Central Russian) dialect substratum under the influence of some of the previous century's Russian chancellery language. Mikhail Lomonosov first compiled a normalizing grammar book in 1755; in 1783 the Russian Academy's first explanatory Russian dictionary appeared. During the end of the 18th and 19th centuries, a period known as the "Golden Age", the grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation of the Russian language was stabilized and standardized, and it became the nationwide literary language; meanwhile, Russia's world-famous literature flourished. Until the 20th century, the language's spoken form was the language of only the upper noble classes and urban population, as Russian peasants from the countryside continued to speak in their own dialects

The Origins of American Literature

Much of the material addressed the problems of Church and State. There were few examples of fiction, poetry or drama. Anne Bradstreet of Massachusetts published some lyrical poems of high literary quality (1650) and Edward Taylor, who was born in England but lived in Boston, wrote some poetry in the style of John Donne and the metaphysical poets. All 17 th cent Am writings were, both in content and form, similar to English lit of the same period. The great literary figures of the 18th cent were Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), Thomas Paine (1737-1809) and Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826). The common sense and witty aphorisms of Franklin's popular Poor Richard's Almanac series appealed to colonial readers. Franklin also wrote effectively on the question of allegiance to the British crown but it was his protégé, Thomas Paine, who inspired colonists during the dark days of the Revolution with his stirring pamphlet

Essay: Christmases in Estonia

Christmas celebrations in Estonia In Estonia, Christmas time is considered to be the most important time of the year. In recent times, Christmases have grown to be more a commercial holiday. What is more, Estonian Christmas celebrations have been changed due to German cultural influences. Christmases in Estonia on the whole have two meanings: first one is to celebrate the birth of the Christ and secondly it marks the whole period of mid-winter festivities. In Estonia's folk tradition, Christmas (in Estonian "jõulud" is of ancient Scandinavian origin and has no connection with Christianity) was a time of year to celebrate the shortest day and longest night. At the same time, Christmas was the culmination of the late autumn celebrations. Christmas Eve and Christmas Night were the most sacred times of the season. Nowadays, Christmases are simply considered to be a holiday to spend time with family and friends

Mozart and his father Leopold Mozart

Mozart and his father Mozart was lucky to have a an experienced musician as a father. Leopold immediately recognised the potential in Wolfgang. He dedicated his life to supporting his son’s talent. Despite, or perhaps because, of their different characters, Wolfgang and Leopold Mozart were dependent on each other. For the remainder of his life, when Wolfgang had been working and living with his wife Constanze in Vienna for a considerable period of time, Leopold Mozart continued a dialogue with his son by writing letters.  Moving to Vienna Wolfgang left home for good in 1781. The move almost certainly aided Wolfgang's musical development; the great majority of his most celebrated works were composed in Vienna. As indicated by Mozart's return letters (which alone survive), Leopold was strongly opposed to the Vienna move, wanting Wolfgang to return to Salzburg. In 1785 Leopold visited Wolfgang and

Raphael Sanzio

Raphael Sanzio Raphael (April 6 or March 28, 1483 April 6, 1520) was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance. Raphael was enormously productive, running an unusually large workshop. Most of his work remains especially in the Vatican. He received his first training from his father, Giovanni Santi, who was a poet and a painter. After that he became a student and assistant of the painter Perugino. Raphael imitated his master closely and sometimes it is difficult to distinguish which works are painted by Raphael. His work at that period is Marriage of the Virgin (1.) Mary receives a ring from Joseph. In contrast to the calm figures of the main group, there are one man, who is shown in motion (liikuvuses). He is breaking a dead stick over his knee, because he fail to win Mary's heart. Joseph's stick, on the other hand, has blossomed. Raphael moved to Florence, where he studied the ...

Eating habits in Estonia

Traditional Estonian food has its roots firmly in the countryside, relying heavily on pork, potatoes and garden variety vegetables. The main culinary influences were from Germans, who ruled over Estonia for so many centuries. The eating habits of the Estonian population are related to the season, which severely affect the availability of fresh food. The spring and summer are the seasons of fresh food, in this period are used vegetables, berries and herbs, with the warmer climate the Estonians also like to cook meat grilled outdoors. During the winter are used mushrooms, jams, and preserved foods. Among the typical Estonian dishes are: Baltic fish in acid sauce, pork with sauerkraut and boiled potatoes, blood sausage and barley, marinade anguilla, boiled pork in jelly, tongue, smoked fish and a kind of dry cake-like barley bread

began in the early 19th century. By 1854 six separate railway terminals had been built just outside the centre of London: London Bridge, Euston, Paddington, King's Cross, Bishopsgate and Waterloo. At this point, only Fenchurch Street Station was located in the actual City of London. Traffic congestion in the city and the surrounding areas had increased significantly in this period, partly due to the need for rail travellers to complete their journeys into the city centre by road. The idea of building an underground railway to link the City of London with the mainline terminals had first been proposed in the 1830s, but it was not until the 1850s that the idea was taken seriously as a solution to traffic congestion. Renewable energy

substances such as gasoline. Renewable energy is energy generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable. Renewable energy uses natural resources that can be replaced or "renewed" without harming the environment and does not contribute to the greenhouse effect and global warming. Non-renewable energy Non-renewable energy comes from sources that can't be replenished in a short period of time. We get most of our energy from nonrenewable energy sources, which include fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas, coal and from nuclear energy. Unfortunately, burning fossil fuels produces greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane which may cause global warming. Wind energy is the world's fastest growing energy technology. Most renewable energy comes either directly or indirectly from the sun.

The Ideal School for my children

They would be able to bring their respective groups of students together in a virtual environment to work as one to solve a problem or tutor each other. Children should not be asked how to wear their uniforms. They should be able to wear it to whatever makes them feel comfortable. If they are asked to wear it a certain way this would push them into doing wrong. Students should not be punished for playing during break, before school and lunch. The reason is because that period of time is their time and they should be able to get some free time for themselves. Children should do their work, yes, but at the same time playing, not during class, would be permitted. That would be my ideal school.

Dear Madam, I wish to rent a 3 bedroom apartment in Võru city. I would like apartment to be situated near the city centre, bigger stores, kindergarten and school. It needs to be with all the comforts and in new or renovated condition. Kitchen should be big and spacious plus bathroom and toilet needs to be separate. Apartments with balcony or terrace, large windows and separate rooms are more appealing for me. I prefer to rent for a longer period of time with reasonable price. Range should not be over 400 which includes public utility bills. It is important that apartment has full kitchen furniture, cellar and garage for car. Neighbourhood needs to be peaceful, with nice neighbours and good public transport access. Do you have a webpage, where I could see latest apartment ads with pictures and your other offers? I look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Maris Springtime vacation in London

American Art Revision Materials

American Art Revision Materials Colonial Period Portraiture. The first typically American paintings were illustrated maps but painting remained scarce during C17. "Roof of the World". In the history of Tibet, it has been an independent country, divided into different countries, and a part of China each for a certain amount of time. Tibet was first unified under King Songtsän Gampo in the seventh century. A government nominally headed by the Dalai Lamas, a line of spiritual leaders, ruled a large portion of the Tibetan region at various times from the 1640s until 1950s. During most of this period, the Tibetan administration was subordinate to the Chinese empire of the Qing Dynasty. The 13th Dalai Lama proclaimed Tibet independent in 1913, but this declaration was not accepted by China. Furthermore, Tibet was not recognized by any country as a de jure independent nation. As a measure of the power that regents must have wielded, it is important to note that only three of the fourteen Dalai Lamas have actually ruled Tibet; regents ruled during 77 percent of the period from 1751 until 1960

Correlation between brand longevity and the diffusion of innovations theory

new to one society. o Communication through channels – essence of the process is the information exchange, done through several channels/ in several ways. o Members of social system/ network – inseparable aspect as without members there is no communication. The transfer of ideas is easier in homogenous groups (same language etc). (Also, the norms and values of the system – culture i.e. – can inhibit the diffusion.) o Period – as change always takes times, it is natural that period in time is one of the elements. Adopter Categories – exemplified with iPhones & Estonians Innovators – always want to be first with new things, more well off so they have the means to do it. (Someone who would travel to US in order to get the newest iPhone before everyone else) Early adopters – the first bigger group who might take on the change quite early, not desperately early though

Most of Portugal fell into the hands of the Taifa of Badajoz of the Aftasid Dynasty, and after a short spell of an ephemera taifa of Lisbon in 1022, fell within the dominion of the Taifa of Seville of the Abbadids poets. The Taifa period ended with the conquest of the Almoravids that came from Morocco in 1086 with a decisive victory in the Battle of Sagrajas followed one century later by the Almohads also coming from Marrakesh in 1147 after the second period of Taifa. Al-Andalus was divided into different districts called Kura. Gharb Al-Andalus at its largest was constituted of ten kuras, each with a distinct capital and governor. Friends have more influence than family

Friends have more influence than family Mikk Ludvi 10.a Parents always want best for their children. However when people are teenager they don't want their parent's advises or opinions .In this period the most important thing in young adults life is being popular, having more friend, more parties or more fun. For them parents are only bar to achieve that. Parents don't influence their children and they don't understand each other. Therefore I think teenagers are influenced by their friends more than their parents. Teenagers can get along well with their peers easily because they have same expectations about life. In school, in their social life they always with their friends.
