Crime

Crime In the sociological field, crime is the breach of a rule or law for which some governing authority or force may ultimately prescribe a punishment. The word crime originates from the Latin crimen. Even in society there are always black sheep and these people are called 'criminals'. Estonia is a relatively safe country, although there are some situations, where people should be more careful crime has been increased lately. We could count different type of crimes, but most common are smuggling and robberies. Many people like something, what do not belong to them. On the one hand, news are talking about shoplifting, bank robbery and vandalism. When looking for the reasons why people commit crimes I can

Do I think the government has any right or reason to monitor people's online activity? The government should find out about potential threats online but should still let people keep their privacy (e.g they shouldn't check people's emails who aren't suspected of anything) e.g People writing to each other about criminal activities People posting videos of shoplifting and not get caught etc Do I suport the idea that anonymous comments under online articles should be done away with? It depends where these comments are posted. For example I think that when it is posted to an online newspaper webpage it is not as bad as when people write to web

Work or university?

Work or university? After finishing secondary school you can take two choices. Whether you are going to work or study at the university. Now I would like to talk about their positive and negative sides. Firstly, I'd like to speak about going to work. Many people after finishing secondary school are going to work. One reason for this is that people have different abilities. Not everybody is suitable for university. The second reason is that perhaps they don't want to spend a lot of time on academic education. They are interested in particular profession which doesn't need an academic degree and want to move on with their life. Positive sides are that people can earn money and grow up faster. Negative sides are that it's not easy to get a job if doesn't have an education. Employees tend to prefer employers who have a good education

Victorian life - Briti ajalugu

15. Victorian times Life and conditions of Victorian people Children were expected to help towards the family budget. They often worked long hours in dangerous jobs and in difficult situations for a very little wage. For example, there were the climbing boys employed by the chimney sweeps; boys and girls working down the coal mines, crawling through tunnels too narrow and low to take an adult. Some children worked as errand boys, crossing sweepers, shoe blacks, and they sold matches, flowers and other cheap goods.

"Choices after secondary school"

Choices after secondary school In today's world, many young people decide to go to university after secondary school, while others think that going to work is a better decision. Firstly, the advantage of going to university after high school is that when person is willing to study and develop himself it is one of the best choices. Many young people know what they want to do with their life after high school, therefore going to university is a good idea. Also, after graduating university it is easier to find a job because then people have necessary education. However, going to work can also be a good decicion for some people. When person has never been very into studying then there is no point in going to university because there they have to study a lot. Books today and tomorrow

Books today and tomorrow Ervin Sagor Books have always played a great role in life and it is important to read them but nowadays people read less than they used to do. When I think about our relationship with books a question comes to my mind: `'Will there be books in the future?'' I think people read more books in the past because then there were no television and radio to entertain people. In the present people rather watch moving images from television than pick up a dusty old book. My opinion on importance of books is that there are books with empty storyline as well as there are books that are considered as true gems which contain knowledge and a great story and the importance of these books is immeasurable. Considering the fact that people in the future will be even lazier than they are now

Does children who have a very high IQ need special education at schools?

Some people say that children who have a very high IQ need special education at schools that are specifically designed for people like them. I couldn't agree more because usually people with very high IQ are a little bit different than people who have normal IQ. First of all, I would like to say that when kids are in elementary school and some of them are smarter and quicker than others they may be labeled as nerds and weirdos. They are also often ostracized. Another thing is that, in extremis gifted children often knows more than their teachers and are very bored. Gifted students need more than most regular schools can offer to them to improve their knowledge. On the other hand, some of them, who have very high IQ, may be

Apperances are deceitful!

People's eyes are attracted to beauty and it's quite natural. We look at flowers, landscapes, pieces of art, and so on. We understand why it is beautiful. People also think of a man's/woman's appearance as of a masterpiece of nature and enjoy it as much as a landscape in the Alps. But is the essence of this beauty the same? Landscapes are parts of nature, pieces of art are created by gifted people; these objects are not alive, don't possess an intellect, so it is much easier to define the essence of it's meaning and purpose. Humans have divine gift of speech, abstract thinking and freedom of action. We can't

How does virtual communication influence our behaviour and relationships

How does virtual communication influence our behaviour and relationships? Virtual world is growing closer to ours every day. It has its pros, as well as cons and the industry involved in it has grown most rapidly in the last 15 year. Therefore, does virtual communication influence us positively or negatively? Becoming virtual in the means of communication has changed our lives forever. Recent studies tell that about 75% of the people in North-America use the internet and from that 95% use email and other virtual communication software. This percentage has grown over 130% from the year 2000. I bring my examples on North-America because there is the highest percentage of Internet users in population. Talking of it, what is internet? Statistics say that it is porn, but I believe that people mostly use it for communication. But can it be bad? Along with the use of the Internet, obesity also has grown dramatically

What is needed for good society

If these aspects are not fulfilled; it is not a good society. In my opinion, good society is not the thing what suits for everybody, because if you will not agree with good society standards, you really are not the person who would be advantageous for this kind of society. Person who is not accepting these standards is communist and only fits in to the dictatorship supportive countries. For being appropriate member for food society you have to accept other people needs and at the same time sacrifice some of your own needs. Good society is not a paradise. Universal access to human essentials means that everyone have the rights to access elementary things for living, such as: air, water, food, protection from harsh weather (clothing and shelter), and safety from harm. So these right-hand duds are major for good society, in Estonia these things are usual for some people, but not for anyone

Essay about NewZealand and Australia

In my essay I will describe the most characteristic features of the Maori people and the aborigines. I will divide the essay in 3 parts the Maori people, the aborigines and their comparison. Maori are the host people of New Zealand. Their name is derived from Ma-Uri which means the children of heaven. The arrival of the Maori people to New Zealand is considered to be somewhat of a mystery. It is known that first Polynesians arrived to New Zealand about 1000 years ago, when navigator Kupe discovered the land in 950 AD. He named it Aotearoa The Land of the Long White Cloud. Although these facts can be debatable, I will focus my attention on this interpretation of Maori history. After the Maori arrived to New Zealand, they started to develop into tribes and sub tribes, this tribal system is still in use

In essence, hunger is the most extreme form of poverty, where individuals or families cannot afford to meet their most basic need for food. Hunger manifests itself in many ways other than starvation and famine. Most poor people who battle hunger deal with chronic undernourishment and vitamin or mineral deficiencies, which result in stunted growth, weakness and heightened susceptibility to illness. Countries in which a large portion of the population battles hunger daily are usually poor and often lack the social safety nets we enjoy, such as soup kitchens, food stamps, and job training programs. When a family that lives in a poor country cannot grow enough food or earn enough money to buy

Aborigines have interested me for a long time now so doing this essay is really fun for me. Australian Aboriginal culture is one of the world's longest surviving cultures. Australian Aborigines, also known as Indigenous Australians , are the native people of Australia . Many of them suffered when white people from Britain arrived in Australia, because of disease, the loss of their hunting lands, and unfair laws. Australian Aborigines are those people regarded as indigenous to the Australian continent. In the High Court of Australia, Australian Aborigines have been specifically identified as a group of people who share, in common, biological ancestry back to the original occupants of the continent. I am an animal person

I Am an Animal Person In the world there are so many different people. Some people like and some do not like animals. But what makes an animal likeable and what is the reason why some people can not have an animal? Firstly, the biggest plus what animals can give is love. Every animal it does not matter how big or small he/she is, loves his/her host with all of his heart and he/she does not care how rich or famous you are. For example, puppies do so much trouble when they are young, but they show love every single day, sometimes they have to lick only your cheek to make you feel good. Secondly, one fateful thing about having an animal is that people do not have any time for

Setting goals and trying to achieve them is an important factor of success Stanislav Stõkov MASB11 Every person's main goal or dream is to succeed in life. While the mission stays the same, the only difference is how it is achieved. Usually people set goals for themselves and attain them step by step, but how important is it in general? The advantages of setting goals include firstly, acting on a certain plan. If people have their goals straighten out, then they will not come to a point where they do not know what to do or what will happen next. It is much easier to move from one point to another if there is a direction. Secondly, if one goal is attained then people feel already sense of

Environment in Estonia

The aim of the report is to discuss environmental issues in Estonia, what kind of problems we have, what causes these problems and what have been done to solve them. Firstly, the main issue is pollution, that is caused by our own carelessness and thoughlessness. In Estonia there are too many old cars and other vehicles, which exhaust fumes that pollute air what we breathe. Although, there are some newer vehicles like busses and cars that contaminate less and even few electric cars, people do not pay enough attention to it. When the levels of pollution are too high, it may cause some serious diseases. The second aspect is that people fell quite a lot of trees, but that is not so big problem. In Estonia there are a lot of forests and groves. Also, people are planting new trees all the time and know abot the importance of green. Lastly, one of the issues is that people consume too much and therefore produce a lot of garbage

The advantages and disadvantages of multiculturalism

The advantages and disadvantages of multiculturalism. Multiculturalism has both the good sides and the bad sides. A lot depends on the country as much it depends of its people. The good side is definitely the environment and society, which enrich and develop into many directions. So do people, too. New languages spread to schools all over the world and people learn and try out new things such as new oriental cuisines and much more. Many different traditiones expand that way. On the other side, people are different and probably, when they move to another country, they expect or hope, that there is better life, but often they are wrong. The obstacle can very easily be even the language. If you don't know or understand the language of the country, it can be very tricky to live on. But in good will, learning the language

Filmi analüüs "Invictus"

December 11, 2009. The film is produced by Clint Eastwood, Lori McCreary, Robert Lorenz, Mace Neufeld and directed by Clint Eastwood. The story is based on the John Carlin book Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation about the events in South Africa before and during the 1995 Rugby World Cup. The title of the film is also a title of a poem ,,Invictus", written by William Ernest Henley. I quite liked this film. It is an interesting and teaching film, which make people think about their attitude towards other people. Nelson Mandela, who released from Victor Verster Prison after 27 years spent in jail, is the first black president of South Africa. He concentrates on problems, which are associated with racial divisions between black and white South Africans. The problems between black and white are obvious even between his own security team. Mr. Mandela attends a game of the Springboks, which is the South Africa's rugby union team.

This is very positive that we can learn at least two foreign language in the school. Very important is than we get practice beside school lessons. To swear or not to swear ?

Swearing has become a natural part of the society. It can be said that almost everybody uses swear words, particularly popular is it among youngsters and teenagers. In this paper I am going to discuss the positive and negative sides of swearing and why people swear. Firstly, people swear beacause it helps to relieve stress and blow off steam, like crying does for small children, to camouflage a person's fear or insecurity, establish a group identity, establish membership in a group and maintain the group's boundaries, express solidarity with other people or just to add humor, emphasis or "shock value" (http://people.howstuffworks.com/swearing1.htm). As can be seen, swearing has many reasons, but the first one is probably the most common. Using a

Cars enslave us rather than liberate us

Transportation is something that has a big influence on people's lives. Especially cars that offer the best comfort for humans. There is always a need to go somewhere: to school, work or just for a journey and it is always good to reach a destination as soon as possible. Of course, the importance of the car depends on the person's residence, whether the person lives in a city or in the countryside, the needs are different. In my opinion, cars enslave people because once a person gets behind the wheel, there is no way out of this comfort. To begin with, car requires a many expenditure, starting from purchasing a car and ending with technical controls, supplying of fuel and so on. It can be said that the material side of the car sustenance is difficult. A person must have a stable income to afford a car. Moreover, it is expensive to get a driver's license. It can be said that owning a car is an expensive pleasure.

Different cultures

Different cultures- a problem or blessing? When we live in our country we never think that something that we do is wrong and needs some changes. Only by meeting the different cultures you may think that some things that you had before were worse or better than they need to be. Effective communication with people of different cultures is especially challenging. Cultures provide people with ways of thinking--ways of seeing, hearing, and interpreting the world. The same words can mean different things to people from different cultures, even when they talk the "same" language. When the languages are different, and translation has to be used to communicate, the potential for misunderstandings increases. Second are "behavior constraints." Each culture has its own rules about proper behavior which affect verbal and nonverbal communication. Whether one looks the

1948 is book that has many ideas twisted together. Lovestory, fears, how Winston whose daily work is rewriting history tries to rebel by falling in love to Julia, altough she isn´t his taste. This book was very interesting because there are many connections to real life for example Big Brother evokes to the cult of personality buillt up around Joseph Stalin, also Winston´s job „revising history“ is based on the Stalinist habit of airbrushing images of „fallen“ people from group photographs and removing references to them in books and newspapers. The thought police is based on the NKVD and the tortures of the Minstry of Love evoke the procedures used by the NKVD. Actually the statement „2+2=5“ that Winston had to beliece was a communist party slogan from the second five-year plan, in which they wanted to full five-year plan in four years. In my opinion it goeds together with nowadays- that people want to get more and faster, they do not have

How to survive in Estonia. Guide for foreigner

To give an answer by topic I decided to hear the views of other people. I was published a topic in Facebook. The theme was "How to survive in Estonia. Guide for foreigner". Analyzing the answers I see the stratification of society, where one side is set extremely negative, but I am glad that there are positive opinions about living in Estonia. But everything in order: The first group of people are inclined to say that in Estonia is difficult even for local people and what to say about those who come from abroad. The problem is particularly acute elderly (old people). Their pensions are small, wherefore they are often forced to work. When people say about government, they responds terms like "corruption" and "incompetence". It is sad to state the fact that the percentage of dissatisfied respondents is higher than the percentage of people who satisfied of their life. The second group of people are more positive. They like to live in Estonia

Inuit Culture

Arctic tundra from beliefs inspired by stories of the aurora to practicalities like homes made of snow. Inuit invented tools, gear, and methods to help them survive in this environment. Read on to learn more about traditional Inuit ways of life, and how Inuit culture has been changed over the past century. Geography Inuit communities are found in the Arctic, in the Northwest Territories, Labrador and Quebec in Canada, above tree line in Alaska (where people are called the Inupiat and Yupik), and in Russia (where people are called the Yupik people). In some areas, Inuit people are called "Eskimos" however many Inuit find this term offensive. The word "Inuit" means "the people" in the Inuktitut language. Inuit Homes In the tundra, where Inuit communities are found, there are not many building materials. No trees grow in the tundra so houses can not be made from wood unless it is transported from elsewhere.

Essee: Can money buy happiness?

Can money buy happiness Since I can remember I have heard people say, that money cannot buy happiness. I generally believe it to be true; the most important things in life, such as friends, family and love can't be bought. However, in today's world we must agree that life without money can be really stressful and hard. If one doesn't have any money, one can't afford to pay rent, buy food, clothes, get medical help if needed or basically do anything. For example, people in developing countries are very poor, they don't have access to pure drinking water or food and they are unable to get proper medical help and that's why in Africa there are always all kinds of diseases spreading. Money is something that can cause a lot of trouble, it makes people greedy and it can even ruin relationships, but it is also something we cannot live without. That is why people need to be rational and understand that money is important and makes our lives easier but we still

Estonian Defence League

Estonian Defence League In this world, different people like different things. Some people are into dancing, but some people are into war games and military things. For those, who like the last ones, there is a special organisation, that raises love to our home country in young people. Estonian Defence League even protects our country in case of a war or emergency. It has and always will be free and open to all of those, who are even a little bit interested in it. The Estonian Defence League was preceded in 1918 by Estonia's first armed home defence organisation: The Citizens' Defence Organisation (Omakaitse) against the public disorder accompanying the Russian Revolution. On 11 November in 1918 the Citizens'

Monoloog: eating disorders

Some people say that while the appearance of waif-like models in the media may send a dangerous message about eating disorders, general fitness and fashion magazines and television shows with thin characters also play a key role in influencing irregular eating patterns. I agree this fact and I think people say that because lots of young people, mostly girls, think that they are overweight or fat. They think that because in magazines and in television there are mostly people with perfect appearance. Often these people start a diet, because they want to look like those models in fashion magazines. They eat few food and hope that when they don't eat as much as they want, they will look better. It may involve eating disorders and irregular eating patterns and it's really bad for their health.

IS MEDIA DECEIVING AND PACIFYING THE POPULATION?

Essay Tallinn 2013 The rapid development of computer technologies and internet has been one of the main factors affecting our everyday life over the last decades. They have made our life more efficient, comfortable and also changed the way we communicate and consume media. Digitalization has also brought us many new platforms and more possibilities for media to reach even more people. The internet is allowing anyone to share information instantly to all over the world. It might be thought that with all these new developments, problems like controlling of the media and deceiving people are gone, but it seems that things are not that clear. When the first newspapers appeared, they were just a part of small businesses, whose goal was to make money by selling the reports of recent events. People bought the papers to stay

It is better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven

Lisett Oras 10a It is better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven People have different opinions about this quote. It makes them think and discuss about Hell and Heaven. I think that this quote means that it is much easier to be a ruler of a place that has no rules and bans. People are allowed to do anything they want, but they still have to somehow obey to the ruler of the Hell s. However in Heaven the ruler has been and will be God. There you must obey and honor the God anyway. If you have lived your life like God would have wanted you to live and you already are in heaven then it is better to serve in heaven. You have lived for God. You have sacrificed and done everything for being accepted there. If you really believe that Heaven is the place

We live in a constantly changing world - essee

Nations rise and fall, governments come to power and tumble, armies march and retreat, healthy people become sick and on and on the world goes. On the one hand the world we are living in is amazing, because science, medicine, technology, and so on are advancing at an ever-increasing pace. It has made our lives much easier than it was 100 years ago. For example we have phones, television, fast cars, eco towns, highrise buildings and so on. But on the other hand the world can also be frightful. People are starving, and do not have water to drink nor wash themselves. But somewhere someone has unlimited food and water and never thinks about those people who are in need. Due to the over consumption of water, gas, wood et cetera, we might be in a lack of mineral resources in the future. And if they run out, we need to find an alternative variant. Already today we have places on Earth were there are no clean water and fresh air.
