For many people, money is the most important thing in the world

For many people, money is the most important thing in the world What is the meaning of life? What is happiness? Surely everyone has asked these questions from himself and has thought about that. Crime & Punishment

Even in society there are always black sheep and these people are called 'criminals'. Although we are part of the EU and tend to be as humane as possible, we have to deal with the problem of growing numbers of people admitted to penitentiaries. One in all we have to dwelve into the mind of a criminal and find out what makes a felon tick. What forces an individual to commit crimes against others? Are we too humane and lenient? When looking for the reasons why people commit crimes I can only say what I believe to be sure of, and it is that individ...

London - climate, park and gardens

An important settlement for two millennia, London's history goes back to its founding by the Romans. Since its foundation, London has been part of many movements and phenomena throughout history, including the English Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, and the Gothic Revival. The city's core, the ancient City of London, still retains its limited medieval boundaries; but since at least the 19th century, the name "London" has also referred to the whole metropolis that has developed around it. Today the bulk of this conurbation forms the London region of England and the Greater Lo...

London - sillad, tornid, ajalugu

At the end of the fourth century AD the Roman Empire began to crumble and the Roman armies were recalled from Britain to defend Rome itself. Once they had left, tribes such as Angles, Saxons and Jutes invaded and settled in from Holland, Germany and Denmark. Together they are known as Anglo-Saxons. They were farming people who preferred living outside towns. For a while London probably lay in ruins, but it eventually developed again, partly because its position on the river was good for trading. In 1666 most of the City of London was destroyed in the Great Fire of London. London Bridge The home of the London Bridge is the Thames River, and a bridge has existed on the spot for at least the last 2000 years. The first bridge on record was constructed by the Romans, and since then many bridges have risen at the hands of various empires. London Bridge today remains one of the...

How far can we go being tolerant?

To me, it is absolutely unacceptable because this is not normal. They could have good facilities for bringing up children and lots of love to give them, but in my eyes it just is not suitable for a child. How could a child live a normal life having to live with two mothers or two fathers? It may sound very intolerant and rude from my part , but I do not think any child could live like that and have a normal and healthy life afterwards. I try to be tolerant about gays having untraditional partnerships and think of them as fellow humans and let them live their own lives, but allowing them to raise children is over my line. Moreover, I am even more confused and concerned about the gender roles. A couple of days ago I saw Oprah talk show where there was a man Thomas, who was pregn...

Estonians: What we’re really like

We love to travel and a lot of people have a job or go to school somewhere outside Estonia. Ernest Hemingway once said that at least one Estonian can be found in every part of the world. Many of us have emigrated to the US, Canada or Australia. Some of them came back after the restauration of the independence in 1991. Estonia is a quite young country with painful history but I think we've been strong and kept our heads up. We may have a little country but it doesn't mean that the people are small too. The Estonians are more self-confident than you can ever imagine. We have many talented people, especially athletes...
