the Provisional as well as the RUC following a rumour that he's become an informer. Valentine recovers the file and soon discovers that its contents are very sensitive and linked to some shady US Government types. He and Mellows go on the run pursued by a conglomerate of vicious acronyms consisting of CIA, RUC, IRA as well as Valentine's own organisation the MRU. Aided by a veteran smuggler Regan, they flee Ireland in Valentine's old trawler and head off into the North Sea. The real theme of the book is how friendships can survive when they are forged in the brutal world of death and treachery that forms the world of espionage and covert war. The story is told in first person who allows the cynicism of Valentine to flow and contrast abrasively with the brutality that he has seen in his life. The characters are well delineated and the skulduggery plausible. The conclusion is full of

Benefits and drawbacks about Estonia

Estonia is divided into 15 counties which are divided in turn into 207 rural municipalities and 47 towns. The Republic of Estonia, the northernmost and smallest of the three Baltic countries, is located on the eastern shores of the Baltic Sea in the north-east of Europe. Lying between East and West, it has served as junction of international trade routes for centuries. Moreover, Estonian neighbours are Russia and Latvia. Estonia is accessible, both from a logistical and social point of view - Tallinn is within 3 hours flight from major European capitals and the power distance is very low. In the west, the coast of Estonia is washed by the Baltic Sea. It is a land of great natural beauty with a long and varied history and rich culture. That's their nature especially concerning national symbols such as their music or their language. Even if Estonia is tiny, it still offers a breathtaking amount of nature. Tallinn

Tallinn: Situated in the north of the country, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, Tallinn is the capital of Estonia and also the largest city in the country. It occupies an area of 159.2 km2 (61.5 sq mi) with a population of 411,196. During different periods, the city has been known under several different names. In 1154 a town called Qlwn or Qalaven (possible derivations of Kalevan or Kolyvan) was put on the world map of the Almoravid by cartographer Muhammad al-Idrisi who described it as a small town like a large castle among the towns of Astlanda. It has been suggested that the Quwri in Astlanda may have denoted the predecessor town of today's Tallinn. The earliest name Kolyvan may be derived from the mythical Estonian hero Kalev. Up to the 13th century the Scandinavians and Henry of Livonia in his chronicle called the town Lindanisa: Lyndanisse in Danish, Lindanäs in Swedish, also mentioned as Ledenets in Old East Slavic. The City on London

The ruins were demolished and a new design by Wren, the one we see today, was built. The only surviving artifact from the old Cathedral was a statue of John Donne which can now be seen in the South Aisle. Building was completed 1710. During the Second World War's Blitz, St Paul's Cathedral became a great symbol of how Londoners could 'take it'. After each night's bombing, there was St Paul's, still intact. That is not to say it survived unscathed. A bomb hit the north transept and another destroyed the High Altar which was replaced by one commemorating the dead of the First and Second World Wars. The chapel behind the High Altar, also damaged, was restored. It is called the American Chapel and dedicated to the Americans who died in Britain during the Second World War. St Paul's has been the scene of many great State ceremonies including: · a thanksgiving for the end of the Napoleonic Wars · the Duke of Wellington's funeral

The Republic of South Africa

The Republic of South Africa History The Republic of South Africa is a country located at the southern tip of Africa, with a 2,798 kilometres coastline on the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Modern humans have inhabited Southern Africa for more than 100,000 years. In 1652 the Dutch East India Company founded a refreshment station at what would become Cape Town. The discovery of diamonds and later gold triggered the conflict known as the Anglo-Boer War, as the Boers and the British fought for the control of the South African mineral wealth. Although the Boers were defeated, the British gave limited independence to South Africa in 1910 as a British dominion. South Africa contains some of the oldest archaeological sites in the world. Flag I flag After the Anglo-Boer War the English people desided to make British Union Flag a national flag of South Africa II flag The second flag was designed in 31 May 1928, becau...

The Foundation of Estonia

Before the Germans invaded in the 13th century proto-Estonians of the Ancient Estonia worshipped the spirits of nature. Since the Northern Crusades Estonia became a battleground for centuries where Denmark, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Poland fought their many wars over controlling the important geographical position of the country as a gateway between East and West. Being conquered by Danes and Germans in 1227, Estonia was ruled initially by Denmark in the north, by the Livonian Order, an autonomous part of the Monastic state of the Teutonic Knights and Baltic German ecclesiastical states of the Holy Roman Empire. From 1418–1562 the whole of Estonia was part of the Livonian Confederation. After the Livonian War, Estonia became part of the Sweden from the 16th century to 1710/1721, when it was ceded to the Russian Empire as the result of the Great Northern War. House of my dreams

House of my dreams Vsevolod Dolgov So, today I want to tell you about my house and house of my dreams. I live in a three-bedroom flat with my mother and brother. Our flat is very big, well, it is very big for me. It is very warm in there, but my mom says it's cold. I have my own room, and it is very cool, because it is like my own flat. I have all my things in there, such things like: a computer, books, my big bed, a guitar and diplomas. There, in my room, is all my life, if you want to know something about me, all you need is to visit my room. We live on the ground floor, and because of that, we do not get a lot of sun in the flat. Our city is not so big, but we live far from the center, our house is in the north-east of the city- it is about fifteen minutes by bus. But it is not so bad, in big cities you need fifty minutes! That’s why I love my city. My dream house should be located outside the city, where I...

Australia

Long before the seventeenth century, people though there was land in the southern ocean, but nobody had seen it. So it was called Terra Australis Incognita - the Unknown South Land. The first recorded European to see Australia was a Dutch - Captain William Jansz who entered the Gulf of Carpentaria in 1606. Another Dutch - Abel Tasman sailed to the south and discovered Tasmania in 1642. By the middle of the seventeenth century most of the north, west and south coasts had been charted. But the Dutch were disappointed with their new discoveries. The first British captain who saw the new continent was William Dampier who visited the north western coast in 1688 and 1689. In 1770 the British sailor Captain James Cook landed on the east coast at Botany bay, and said Australia now belonged to Britain. Of course nobody asked the Aborigines about this - it was the beginning of a terrible time for them. Narrowly escaping shipwreck on the Great

The UK

Nordic peoples started. The Angles, Saxons and Jutes began to settle from the sixth to the eighth centuries, and the Angles gave England its name. These invaders introduced a new culture to Britain, and even today British customs and habits are described as 'Anglo-Saxon'. Anglo-Saxon England was one of the most civilised countries in Europe, with organised systems of agriculture and trade. The Vikings ca me from Scandinavia in the tenth eentury; they settled in the north and made the town of York the capital of their kingdom. The last successful invasion of Britain was in 1066, which is an important date in history books in British schools. Duke William of Normandy (William the Conqueror) defeated the English at the Battle of Hastings, and the Normans and the French settled in Britain over the next three centuries. French became the language of the nobility and, with Latin, the language of the legal system and of government. POPULATION

Native peoples of North and South America descended from ancestors who arrived via land bridges from East Asia, possibly in a single migration. Different tribes and their way of life The men were hunters, warriors, and protectors, while the women tended to the children, their homes, and farmed. It depended on the tribe when it came to artwork. In some tribes, the men would actually weave baskets and blankets. Natural foods were consumed and hunted. Deer, buffalo, fish, and various birds were the game of choice
