Nowadays all Welsh, Scottish and Irish people speak English (even if they speak their own language as well), but all the countries have their own special accents and dialects, and their people are easily recognizable as soon as they speak. A southern English accent is usually taught to foreigners as it is the most easily understood. Regional movements of people For over a century there has been a drift of people from the north and west to the south-east of England. Some of the major reasons for this movement are listed here. 48. A decline in the farming workforce and rural population (rural depopulation). 49. The exhaustion of raw materials (coal and iron ore). 50. The decline of the basic heavy industries, such as steel, textiles and shipbuilding. Those wishing to work had to move south. 51. Higher birth rate in the industrial cities meant more potential job-seekers. Movements away from conurbations

The Pilgrim Fathers

On November 9th, 1620, the `Mayflower' sighted what is now Cape Cod. Despite seeing land, the crew of the `Mayflower' searched for another month to find somewhere to land. Where they eventually landed was called New Plymouth. On December 25th, after finding a place where the `Mayflower' could be safely anchored, the Pilgrim Fathers began to build the first house for common use. By February 1621, 50% of the Pilgrim Fathers had died as a result of the cold weather and the inadequate housing that they had built for themselves. A Native American called Squanto helped those Pilgrim Fathers who survived the harsh winter. He showed them how to sow maize and how to cultivate the crop. Seeds brought from England were of little use in their new environment. By the summer of 1621, the Pilgrim Fathers had built houses for themselves and had gathered up a small harvest. They were well recovered in health and strength, and had all things in good plen...

Studying and tests have never been a difficulty for me, but this year physics and math are getting hard. I don't like math, never have. What are the biggest pressures for teens in you city? Võru doesn't have pressure for teens because it is a small and a peaceful city, at least I can't feel any. Is there a difference in Estonia between the north and the south? No, there isn't a big difference, but when I went there and talked to some of my friends living in Tallinn, then I noticed that they don't recognize some of the words we use every day in Võru. Have you visited any other countries? Yes, I have visited many different countries. When I was little, our family traveled a lot. We lived in the USA for one year but unfortunately, I can't remember too much. We visited America another time too, when I was in the second grade

The incident, which took place on December 16, 1773, was a key event in the growth of the American Revolution and remains an iconic event of American history. Background Europeans developed a taste for tea in the 17th century. When tea became popular in the British colonies in North America, Parliament sought to eliminate foreign competition by passing an act in 1721 that required colonists to import their tea only from Great Britain and the East India Company. Because Parliament heavily taxed this tea and charged the East India company tarrifs, both Britons and British Americans found that it was much cheaper to buy smuggled tea, which usually came from Dutch sources. Tower Bridge

· In December 1952, the bridge opened while a number 78 double-decker bus was on it. At that time, the gateman would ring a warning bell and close the gates when the bridge was clear before the watchman ordered the lift. The process failed while a relief watchman was on duty. The bus was near the edge of the south bascule when it started to rise; driver Albert Gunter made a split-second decision to accelerate the bus, clearing a three-foot drop onto the north bascule, which had not started to rise. There were no serious injuries. · Before dawn on 31 October 2003, David Crick, a Fathers 4 Justice campaigner, climbed a 120 ft (37 m) tower crane near Tower Bridge at the start of a six day protest dressed as Spider-Man. Fearing for his safety, and that of motorists should he fall, police cordoned off the area, closing the bridge and surrounding roads and causing widespread traffic congestion across the City and east London

Position Paper The Kingdom of Belgium

development and use of lethal autonomous weapons systems. II. The Question of Preventing the Creation and Testing of Nuclear Weapons. In this day and age, The Kingdom of Belgium thinks that nuclear weapons are one of the most vital weapons that a country can use at war. We think that the NATO countries should constantly upgrade their nuclear arsenal, to be compatible with other nuclear power countries, such as Russia, The Republic of North Korea and many others. At the moment The Kingdom of Belgium holds in their possession with some other NATO countries the American type B-61 nuclear warheads. We think that by possessing nuclear weapons a country sends out a message not to attack them, as we can see in the example of Pakistan and India. In the future, we would love to see a world without nuclear bombs, but at the moment we just cannot allow us that, because of the conflicts, that are threatening world peace. III

Tähtsamad julgeolekuorganisatsioonid

NATO lähtub põhimõttest, et iga liikmesriigi julgeolek sõltub kõigi liikmete julgeolekust. Seega on NATO asutajaliikmed kohustatud üksteist kaitsma sõjalise agressiooni korral, mis on suunatud ükskõik kelle vastu nende seast. 1949. aasta 4. aprillil moodustasid 12 lääneriiki Ameerika Ühendriigid, Belgia, Kanada, Holland, Itaalia, Island, Luksemburg, Norra, Portugal, Prantsusmaa, Taani ja Ühendkuningriik Põhja-Atlandi Lepingu Organisatsiooni (NATO North Atlantic Treaty Organization). NATO loodi vastukaaluks Nõukogude Liidust tulenevale ohule ning liiduvabariike ühendava Varssavi Lepingu Organisatsioonile (VLO). Aastatel 1947-1952 aitas Marshalli plaan stabiliseerida Lääne-Euroopa riikide majandust. Poliitilise ja sõjalise organisatsioonina oli NATO roll tagada kollektiivne kaitse igasuguse relvastatud kallaletungi korral ning kindlustada demokraatia arenguks ja majanduse kasvuks vajaline turvaline keskkond

The importance of the rainforest

erosion, malaria epidemics, the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the eviction and decimation of indigenous Indian tribes, and the loss of biodiversity through extinction of plants and animals. Fewer rainforests mean less rain, less oxygen for us to breathe, and an increased threat from global warming. But who is really to blame? Consider what we industrialized Americans have done to our own homeland. We converted 90 percent of North America's virgin forests into firewood, shingles, furniture, railroad ties, and paper. Other industrialized countries have done no better. Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil, and other tropical countries with rainforests are often branded as "environmental villains" of the world, mainly because of their reported levels of destruction of their rainforests. But despite the levels of deforestation, up to 60 percent of their territory is still covered by natural tropical forests

Temperate deciduous forests, woodlands and shrub

Temperate deciduous forests, woodlands and shrub Tartu 2008 Location: Temperate forests are typical of all European continent, the Eastern region of Asia (in special, Chinese and Japan) and North America. Also are finded in tempered areas of South America. Climate: The average temperature in temperate forests is 50° F. Summers are mild, and average about 70° F, while winter temperatures are often well blow freezing. The average yearly precipitation is 30-60 inches. This precipitation falls throughout the year, but in the winter it falls as snow. There are four seasons in this biome, with warm summers and cold winters, often snowy. In autumn, the leaves change color and fall from the trees. The leaves decay on the forest floor, so the soil is very rich. Because of this, and because of the long growing season, many deciduous forests have been cut down for farming purposes. Plants: Trees of this biome include hardwood...

Sir Isaac Newton

Newtoni ema teisest abielust sündis kolm last, nendelt aga omakorda kokku kaheksa. Nende kaheksa vahel läks peale Newtoni surma jagamisele kogu

Most endangered bears

S. Endangered Species Act protection. • Human settlements near brown bear habitats are increasingly becoming "mortality sinks" where the animals are poached or inadvertently (tahtmatult) killed. 8. THE AMERICAN BLACK BEAR • Thriving in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, this is the only bear species considered secure throughout its range. • An enormous amount of effort and funding for conservation and management continue to be directed at bears in North America, where their status is relatively favorable. CONCLUSION • Six of the world's eight bear species—75 percent—are threatened with extinction. • Hunting is also a problem—sun bear gall bladders are sought for their bile (sapp), an ingredient in Asian folk medicines. • Six out of eight of the world's bear species are threatened with extinction. VOCABULARY • Habitat – elupaik • Confined – piiratud • Destruction – purustamine
