SUMMARY The aim of this thesis was to study the suitability of two optical sensors for a calibration process of water meters. While writing this thesis the author studied the working principle of optical sensors, analysed different solutions, disregarding all that did not suit the needs of this work and concentrated on thouse that showed the most potential. Also the calibration method of water meters was carefully examined, which stated the requirements that the optical sensors should fullfill while working. The practical part of the work was made simpler by authors two years of experience with water meters and measuring equipment used for the process.
