Wind energy vs oil shale

which is published on their web page. Wind power It is said that the wind power is the most expensive source of power, but this statement is not plausible, because the recourse -wind- is for free. Calculations have shown that if new oil shale blocks were built, it would cost 3473 million EEK in a year per capita. On the other hand, if wind power were renewed in similar amount, it would cost only 868 million EEK per capita in a year. It means that if the wind power were renewed, it would be 17 370 millions EEK cheaper. The fact that wind energy saves resources and produces neither dangerous emissions nor toxic waste is also in favour of wind energy. Power from oil shale In the time when many world countries close factories that use fossil fuels, Estonia is starting to build new factories that work with oil shale. Taxpayers pay subsidy for oil shale in every

The role of the free press

The role of the free press Newspapers and magazines play an imoportant role in today's society and are capable of influencing people's lives in many ways. The new electronic media have become even more influential in shaping people's opinions, attitudes and behaviour. However, does the free press offer a valuable service, or is it, as American journalist, Edward Egglestone said, "organised gossip"? On a personal level, the media can be very entertaining and informative. Reading about the lifestyles of the rich and famous is amusing and can help people forget their own problems. However, journalists frequently intrude on the privacy of celebrities, following them and photographing them in their most intimate moments. This is surely an unacceptable interpretation of the word "free". As far as politics are concerned, the free press is important as it often reveals the...

Can food really affect our mental well-being?

Learning and memory, illnesses such as depression, reduced calorie diet that includes fruits, vegetables and fish. What people eat determines how they tackle their daily physical activities, including housework, job, school, homework, shopping, caring for a family and exercise. Eating healthy enables body movements to be executed with ease.A poor diet with unhealthy food choices can make each movement a major effort filled with stress and pain. When people are hungry that means their blood sugar dropped, they feel tired, irritable and depressed and starvation. They're becoming more agressive to things around them.Solution for that is eating regularly and choosing foods that release energy slowly will help to keep sugar levels steady. I think food affects our well-being,because is one of the important thing for our body. Food gives substances like vitamines, minerals, carbohydrates and protein to our body. When people

What would also be unacceptable, according to Bush, is for "unelected regulators and judges" to force a "one size fits all" set of carbon regulations on the country. The unelected judges in question are the ones on what Bush refers to dismissively as "some courts" - that is, the US supreme court. The unelected regulators are the ones in Bush's own EPA, which was told by the court in no uncertain terms that it is obligated by the Clean Air Act to regulate CO2. "One size fits all" means that CO2 would thus be subject to national regulations, and the Bush administration couldn't cut deals with every industry individually. Oh, the affront to democracy. *Hilariously, Bush said that such incentives "should be technology-neutral because the government should not be picking winners and losers" - not noticing, apparently, that elsewhere in the speech he promised billions in subsidies to "clean" coal, nuclear power and biofuels. *Ultimately, the speech itself was a sideshow

Poultry farming is highly developed in the countryside near all big cities. The United States is rich in various metals and minerals. It holds first place in the capitalist world. The Great Lakes and the rivers, especially the Mississippi, are important waterways. For Americans, democracy means more than majority rule. It also means minority rights. The American democratic government was established in March 1789 in the Constitution of the United States. In this system, rights and powers are divided between the individual states and the central, or Federal government. To prevent any political party from becoming too powerful, the powers of the Federal Government are divided. The Federal government has 3 branches - the executive, the legislature and the judiciary

Philip Larkin poetry analysis

He is saying that intimacy is dying and that may represent the globalization. Another political poem I really enjoyed is ´´Homage To a Government´´. Larkin says that next year they are going to bring all the soldiers home, because they (citizens) want the money for them selves. And that their children do not know it's a different country, because they did not achieve anything in the war. But at least they can leave their children some money. I think that Larkin means that the troops are going to be brought home from Vietnam. At the end of almost every line in the first stanza is /And it is all right./ In his ironical way he is trying to say that the Vietnam War was pointless, because it did not bring any results. Another poem about the Vietnam War is ´´High Windows.´´ The poem was written is the 1960s during the sexual revolution. Partly due to that there were conflicts between the younger generation and an older, different generation

Dioxins and furans in the atmosphere

Haiglajäätmete põlemine 0,5 Tööstusjäätmete põletamine 8 Why are dioxins a problem? Dioxins are widely encountered toxic substances. They are found in all environmental compartments, are persistent and, being fat soluble, they tend to accumulate in higher animals including humans. Their resistance to degradation and semivolatility means that they may be transported over long distances and give rise to transnational exchanges of pollutants. In addition, dioxins which were released into the environment many years ago are still contributing to current exposure. Even very small dioxin concentrations can cause negative effects on the environment and on human health, in particular on the most vulnerable groups like children. Human health effects include impairment of the immune system,

How the right of privacy was viewed in the 1890s and 2010s.

Essay How the right of privacy was viewed in the 1890s and 2010s. Comparison between two articles by Warren & Brandeis and Julie Cohen The two articles have questioned - What is privacy ? The simplest answer would be that the privacy is a human right and like in the first article by Warren & Brandeis, they quote Judge Cooly who sayd that, the privacy is the right to be let alone. This means, that a person is free to go and do what ever the person wants, no one has a right to harm him/her physically or mentally and vice versa. What ever the person decides to do, nobody else has the right to know about it without persons premission. Julie Cohen starts her essay with a point that privacy has the image problem. In the world where there is no mobile platforms, data mining social meedia, in simple words the internet, its easyer to leave the

Everything and nothing can be or exist. Things like colour, nature, material things like a table just are, but the meaning of being in be-ing in itself is unclear. Non Material things can also be or exist. If something is, then it is a being. But what exactly is this IS that we can see or on the opposite can not see? Therefore this is one of the fundamental questions of philosophy. 2. Can you reject solipsism? Solipsism (solus ipse) means nothing exists, therefore everything is an illusion outside of our own minds. I think that it is true that we know WE as in myself exists. But i can not for certain say that the person reading this exists although it might seems like it to me. I think that you really can’t reject solipsism on the whole because you do know that you exists, but can you for certain say that anybody else does? It may as well be just an illusion, but you never can say for certain

second time is set"). She goes on to explain that after fame has faded, its not too pleasant insides become visible and even the crows inspect the leftovers, but decide to turn to the farmer's corn. The crows could also represent the many followers famous people get (fans etc), who turn away as soon as they see the fame becoming less bright. Dickinson ends the poem by saying that men, who eat the dish of fame, die. This means that they have spent their lives in search and pursuit of fame and have lost sight of everything important. Stylistically it is a very lovely poem. It flows nicely, although there is an abrupt change of pace in the last line, but that also carries a significance - to highlight the importance of the last sentence. She has also comprised the stanzas very logically the main idea carries over very well. Dickinson

A celebrity is a person who works hard all his life to become well known, and then wears darkglasses to avoid being recognized. A celebrity is a person who works hard all his life to become well known, and then wears darkglasses to avoid being recognized. Who wouldn't want to be in the spotlight? Being a celebrity means having nice cars, gigantic villas, clothes from famous fashions designers and a shot on the front cover of a magazine each week. The first answer among children to the question `Who would you like to be in the future?' most likely tends to be a singer, a model, a dancer, or simply: a superstar. Some parents wish to realise their dreams on their children. For example, in their youth they aspired to become famous, but failed and now force their children to work hard to realise their

Tolerance and diversity First of all I had to pose myself a question what does tolerance mean to me? I came to the conclusion that for me it means accepting people the way they are- not caring about their appearance, orign, religion, attitude or skin coulor, even if their beliefs and thoughts are not just the same as mine. I think that every one of us should pay respect to other people. I find it interesting to learn about other cultures and how they live. Estonia is a culturally diverse society. It is home to approximately 1,4 million people and not all of them are Estonians. Beside us consider Estonia as their home: Russians,

Competition good or bad ?

Even animals and plants compete with each other. But what are the good and bad sides of competition? First of all, competiton makes us strive(pingutama) more than usually. When we must compete with other people, we want to be best or at least good. As a result, we are ready to do things that maybe are difficult or boring, but improve our skills. For example, if estonian proffessional skier Kristina Smigun wants to win a gold medal, she has to focus on the upcoming contest. That means to train every day without complaining about the lack of free time. Furthermore, competition is needed in order to be able to compare different things. If we do not compete, we can not ever know who is stronger, better and smarter. We can only say our own subjective opinion. For instance, If we need to make university admission tests, we all know, the smartest win.Clearly we understand that all have chances to win, because everyone must pass the same test and have equal chances to prepare for it

interpreting the world. The same words can mean different things to people from different cultures, even when they talk the "same" language. When the languages are different, and translation has to be used to communicate, the potential for misunderstandings increases. Second are "behavior constraints." Each culture has its own rules about proper behavior which affect verbal and nonverbal communication. Whether one looks the other person in the eye-or not; whether one says what one means overtly or talks around the issue; how close the people stand to each other when they are talking--all of these and many more are rules of politeness which differ from culture to culture. Third factor is "emotional constraints." Different cultures regulate the display of emotion differently. Some cultures get very emotional when they are debating an issue. They yell, they cry, they exhibit their anger, fear, frustration, and other feelings openly

The Integration of subjects The present-day school system revolves around traditional education, in which students learn each subject individually. This structure means that pupils don’t have the capability or know-how to connect math, biology or even art into their daily life. Even though the tutors of this conventional education have faith in the arrangement of subjects it is still entirely about high test scores, grades and graduation. The essence of progressive, alternative education like the integration of subjects is learning and the accumulation of valuable knowledge & skill.

Can you buy everything for money? Money is a resource for which you can afford to buy anything, of course, if this is enough money. But they are also a lot of things (values) that you can not for the money. You can not buy friendship, family, acquaintances and loved ones much more. At the moment Supilinn is being rapidly renovated, undergoing a slow transformation from the historic slum into a prestigious highclass neighborhood. The active community embodied by the Supilinn Society is committed to preserving the heritage. Tartu's large student population means that it has a comparatively thriving nightlife, with many bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. Annually, in the summer, Tartu hosts the Hansa Days Festival (Estonian: Hansapäevad) to celebrate the Hanseatic heritage under the motto "History lives" when the old town bustles with activity from handicraft markets and historic workshops to a jousting tournament.

more popular every day, with a growth rate of 7 percent per year. There are about two million children currently learning at home. Homeschooled kids do well on standardized tests and are welcome at colleges and universities. Pros: Individual teaching attention Continuous population growth is leading to overcrowded schools in many areas. Add this to the recent economic struggles, with many schools laying off teachers or closing altogether. This means that teachers are more overwhelmed than ever, often handling classes of 40 or more children at a time. Personalized learning Another important consideration in the pros and cons of homeschooling is your ability to tailor lesson plans to your child. In traditional school environments, classmates often learn at very different speeds. This helps slower learners stay on track with the class, but often leaves bright children bored and distracted

The exhaustible resources are running out. And with the population growing, it will become an even bigger probleem. This means people in the future may not have enough resources, because right now humans are using too much. Another huge problem is global warming. The effects of global warming can already be seen today. Half of the Great Barrier Reef already dead because of the increasing temperature. Global warming causes a lot of species to go extinct. For many people, money is the most important thing in the world

It looks like for some people happiness depends on that how much money they can earn. Money is for them the most important thing in the world. Somehow money is important for all of us. We need it for everything: to buy food, clothes and other bare necessities. Also we buy other things and services that are less necessity, but we just want to buy them. Money is resource for buying things, is it also a purpose? Why are we studying? Because we want to get a good job, it means for one thing that we want to get big salary. We attempt to make career to get even bigger salary, even more money. We spend huge part of our life for earning money. It looks like this is the meaning of life. Fortunately there is also other things in the life, beside material values. Joy, friends, love we can not buy such things. It is good, otherwise we would only gather money. I believe ingenously that mental values are much more important than material values. But other story

But if to look into our street picture, there are seen so many under age smokers that it is really threatening. The West End of London

1834 by Charles Henry Harrod. Harrods is also the world's first building with an escalator. Today Harrods is an amazing place with over 330 shops, which includes twenty-six fine eating places, where you can go eat, when hungry. London is the theatre capital of the world and most of its best theatres are in the West End. There are always many fine plays and musicals to see. Piccadilly Circus is a big public space built in 1819. The word 'circus' here comes from the Latin word circle, which means a big open space where people can meet. Young people like to sit and relax there. The god of love, known as Eros, has its own memorial fountain there. Soho is an area north of Piccadilly Cirucus near Oxford Street. It attracted many foreigners, artists and writers in the past Karl Marx lived here for five years. Until 1536 Soho was part of King Henry VIII's royal park for the palace where he lived. People think that the word 'soho' was a hunting call.

Essee, Homelessness

where they feel needed. The homeless have trouble belonging to a community. Many people do not want the homeless to be apart of the same social circle. People are embarrassed of the homeless because of the many stereotypes that they have been given. It is time we stop ignoring the homeless and treating them as if they do not exist. Government must play a better role in helping these individuals that do not have a home. Social workers must find different means for helping the homeless. Permanent residence facilities should be considered instead of temporary shelters. Job programs for the homeless must concentrate on getting these people out of the streets and into the workplace so they can make something of themselves and not rely on the government just to give them what they need. Society must stop fearing these people and realize that they are humans just like all of us. No one deserves to be homeless.

Writer dicribes her like a hero. c) Michael Jackson Few years ago the world lost a great singer . The mans name was Michael Jackson. He is my idol even if he does not exist among us anymore. He was a favourite artist for many people. But having a lot of friends means having a lot of enemies. There comes the scandals towards him too. Even now, two years after his death, he isn't left alone. Firstly, Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958. I guess that he didn't even imagine that when he grow up, he'll have so many admirerers, but he was a musical person as a youngster. He started singing in a band when he was in the family band The Jacson 5. He started his solo career in 1971. Since then he was rising on the musical career table.

Skulptuur “Kristallmets”

Today, forests cover up to 55% of our country’s territory but it’s possible that this number might start decreasing quickly unless we start taking the state of forests more seriously. A good forest grows approximately 70 years so the young peole who plant trees on their land, won’t probably be building houses with them, instead their children or grandchildren will. We dream of Estonia, where even the children of our kids know what the word Forest means and can walk there any time, pick berries or go skiing in the winter. Since we didn’t want to waste what we were drawing attention to, we used Jõgeva’s wood industry Valmeco AS’s production residues. For paintings, we used acrylics. The sculpture is being kept above the water by a ferry made out of empty plastic bottles. The authors of the sculpture are Jessica Järvelt, Rezete Karu and Marilin Kuusk from Jõgeva County Gymnasium (või Jõgevamaa Gümnaasium).

Film review - Billy Elliot

he doesn't like it either. Then suddenly Billy finds himself a new hobby he actually enjoys and that is ballet. There is a small ballet group in this town, taught by Ms Wilkinson (Julie Walters). She is a strong women and knows how to inspire children to practice. Ms Wilkinson is blown away by Billys unique natural talent of ballet and he is her best dancer. She wants the best dance career for him but this means it has to be considered with Billys parents. Due to the reason Billy has no mother and his father is really oldfashioned, this is the point where it gets difficult. Billys life is about to fall apart again. All the actors of this movie are extraordinarily talented and I got really carried away by this story. Billy was a tough kid and managed to convince his father to trust him and Ms Wilkinson about ballet. They softened even his fathers heart that seemed pretty unconvinceable at the first place

Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development in Estonia

sustainable development model and preservation of the traditional values of Estonia. Estonia is well-known by its waste quotas. In order to keep the air pollution to a minimum Estonia has developed high quotas. There are limits for large industries and factories to how much carbon dioxide they are allowed to let into the atmosphere. If they transgress the quotas then they must pay large sums of money. That is probably one of the most important means of preventing the global warming. Although the condition of our environment has improved, there is still a lot to do. Every one of us has to start thinking more about how our actions can affect the environment that is surrounding us. Even waste sorting can make a huge difference in the environment. We should also think about our descendants and make it so that they would not have to live in an environment that has been ruined by us.

CARPOOLING/esitlus inglise keeles

journeys with high fuel costs. Just for your information I would like to say that there are some Estonian carpooling groups in Facebook, like Tallinn-Tartu-Tallinn, Tallinn-Rakvere-Tallinn and so on.So you could get to the place you need using these kinds of groups or some apps in your smartphone. In conclusion I would like to tell, that carpooling platforms in internet are meeting points for people who wants to reduce travel costs and pollution. Please realize that driving alone in your car means that 4 seats are wasted, twice a day, 5 days a week, all year-round. For an approximate of 30 working weeks, that makes 1200 empty seats! Let’s be proactive and start thinking about energy and resource conservation now! Thank you for attention!

Healthy Lifestyle

So if you don't want to be at risk for any of these diseases it is advised you get regular exercise and eat accordingly. Another great way to lead a healthy lifestyle is to get enough rest. As students, we must go to sleep early. This is to prevent us from being tired the next day. Therefore, we can give full concentration when our teachers are teaching us in class. A study shows that we must have atleast 8 hours of sleep. If we often stay up at night, it means that we are not leading a healthy lifestyle all the time. In conclusion, a healthy lifestyle mainly consists of getting regular exercise, eating healthy and getting enough rest.

Speech: Ideas are our greatest weapons

Speech: Ideas are our greatest weapons Hello class and classmates, I would like to open up my speech with a quote that I find really amazing: „The pen is mightier than the sword”. Sadly I don't know whose it is, but it means, that not every war has to be fought with swords and weapons, coming up with an idea about something that isn't violent might be a lot easier way to conquer in life. I think that all of you know that every tool, weapon, Everything that surrounds us, has started with an idea. That shouldn't be new for you. Some people might find it hard to believe, but even the most common things- like chairs, walls, even a pack of bread has been an idea once. Someone had

lunch and the evening meal as dinner or, when it is less formal, as supper. But some rural people call the midday meal dinner and the early-evening meal tea. Many people, particularly in Dublin, no longer eat more than a light meal or snack in the middle of the day. Those who have an early-evening meal sometimes have another snack-- sandwiches, cakes, or biscuits--at around 9 PM. Socializing The traditional Irish greeting Céad míle fáilte literally means "A hundred thousand welcomes." However, the Irish greet one another with common English phrases such as "Hello" and "How are you?" or more casual greetings such as 'How's it going?' The most typical Irish greeting is Dia dhuit, which means "God be with you." Goodbye is expressed with Slán (roughly "Go safely") or the warmer Slán agus beannacht ('Go safely, and blessings be with you'). Greetings are generally accompanied by a firm
