1788-1849 The early years 1850-1899 The golden years 1900-1949 The shifting concern 1950-today The new foundations We can say that A. Phillip founded theatre in Australia. In the golden years, it was strongly affected by the English and Italian opera. The first ballet was introduced in 1855. Because cinema and radio became very popular in the beginning of the 20th century, theatre lost its fans and was not as popular as in the golden years. Literature The oldest type of literature in Australia is the aboriginal poetry, which is quite popular even today, as it is found everywhere. The most famous poets are C.Harpur, H.Kendall, G.G. McCrae. Today, crime fiction is the most popular genre. Australians love the writings of K.Greenwood, as they are exciting and thrilling. Art Australian art is famous for its dot paintings-a painting that is made out of dots. It was painted famous by aborigines, who nowadays can earn good money by selling those paintings.
for their hometown, the likes of which could not hav been found in any other European city. Tallinn's architects of the old days probably aimed to reach the Heavenly Father or to defy the skies at least. 14 Summary The aim of the report was to find additional material about the houses on Lai Street that would be helpful for the students of Tallinna Mustamäe College while doing their guide practice exam in form eleven. In conclusion, we can say that although there is literature available on this subject, it is mostly found in the Estonian language, or written many years ago, and no longer entirely accurate. There is certainly a need for up-to-date literature on the subject. The author proposes to create a database that would have a list of all the buildings in the Old Town with a short summary of the history of each building and an explanation why the building is important. 15 References 1. Cultural Life in Great Britain Artistic and cultural life in Britain is rather rich, like in most of the European countries. It has passed several main stages in its evelopment. The Saxon King Alfred encouraged the arts and culture. The chief debt owed to him by English literature is for his translations of and commentaries on Latin works. Art, culture and literature flourished during the Elizabethan age, during the reign of Elizabeth I; it was the period of English domination of the oceans and colonies, and, due to the strong political and economic position of the country, there were few obstacles in the way of the cultural development. This time is also famous for the fact that William Shakespeare lived and worked then.

Themes, Motifs, and Symbols Themes Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work. The Grim Reality of War - As the title of the novel makes clear, A Farewell to Arms concerns itself primarily with war, namely the process by which Frederic Henry removes himself from it and leaves it behind. The few characters in the novel who actually support the effort--Ettore Moretti and Gino--come across as a dull braggart and a naïve youth, respectively. The majority of the characters remain ambivalent about the war, resentful of the terrible destruction it causes, doubtful of the glory it supposedly brings. The novel offers masterful descriptions of the conflict's senseless brutality and violent chaos: the scene of the Italian army's retreat remains one of the most profound evocations of war in American literature. As the neat columns of men begin to crumble, so too do the soldiers' nerves, minds, and cap...

King Alfred conquered the Dames, King Arthur lived in the Age of Shivery, King Harlod mustarded his troops before the Battle of Hastings, Joan of Arc was cannonized by George Bernard Shaw, and the victims of the Black Death grew boobs on their necks. Finally, the Magna Carta provided that no free man should be hanged twice for the same offense. In midevil times most of the people were alliterate. The greatest writer of the time was Chaucer, who wrote many poems and verse and also wrote literature. Another tale tells of William Tell, who shot an arrow through an apple while standing on his son's head. The Renaissance was an age in which more individuals felt the value of their human being. Martin Luther was nailed to the church door at Wittenberg for selling papal indulgences. He died a horrible death, being excommunicated by a bull. It was the painter Donatello's interest in the female nude that made him the father of the Renaissance. It was an age of great inventions and discoveries

7 1. A CATEGORIZATION OF METHODS FOR AUTOMATIC FABRIC PILLING ASSESSMENT USING MACHINE VISION In the last decades automated visual inspection (AVI) of fabrics for quality control faced an increasing trend in the textile industry due to the considerable development of technologies related to vision systems. Several approaches have been proposed in scientific literature [3-6] employing image processing-based methods and statistical parameters (such as mean, variance and median) for defect detection on fabrics. Pilling measurement using machine vision systems makes no exception: a number of methodologies have been proposed in order to explore automatic or semi-automatic pills detection and classification. Basically (in almost all the methods) the starting point consists of digital images of pilled fabrics

Allusion a reference to something known to the reader, frequently to the literature, history, facts of everyday life. Usually no source indicated. Allusions create new associations in a new context, because they call forth compression. Usually they create festive overtones, also humor (when used "inappropriately") (e.g. "Death may be knocking at the door like the Commandor's statue.") 3. Quotation is a phrase, passage from a literary source marked by inverted commas. Usually the author's name is supplied unless he is widely known

acid), incorporated into other cellular molecules, or oxidized to carbon dioxide and exhaled. Formaldehyde vapors are readily absorbed from the respiratory tract. Due to rapid metabolism to formate, little, if any, intact formaldehyde can be found in the blood of humans or animals exposed to formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is also readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and meets with the same metabolic fate as formaldehyde after inhalation exposure. The studies available in the open literature suggest that very little formaldehyde is absorbed via the dermal route. In all cases, absorption appears to be limited to cell layers immediately adjacent to the point of contact. Entry of formaldehyde into the blood (i.e., systemic absorption) occurs to a very limited extent, if at all. by the intractable Irish situation and humiliated by the failures of the Boer War. EDUCATION Education in nineteenth-century England was not equal - not between the sexes, and not between the classes. Gentlemen would be educated at home by a governess or tutor until they were old enough to attend Eton, Harrow, Rugby, Winchester, Westminster, Charterhouse, or a small handful of lesser schools. The curriculum was heavily weighted towards the classics - the languages and literature of Ancient Greece and Rome. After that, they would attend Oxford or Cambridge. Here they might also study mathematics, law, philosophy, and modern history. Oxford tended to produce more Members of Parliament and government officials, while Cambridge leaned more towards the sciences and produced more acclaimed scholars. However, it was not compulsory, either legally or socially, for a gentleman to attend school at all. He could, just as easily, be taught entirely at home

The Stylistics of language studies different styles including registers, stylistic devices and expressive shades of linguistic units (words, construction of phrases). The Stylistics of speech studies individual texts viewing the way the message or content is expressed. Literary Stylistics concentrates on artistic expressiveness that characterises a literary work or a writer, a literary trend or a whole time period. Thus Stylistics is a part of theory of literature (literary criticism) and poetics. Poetics is a science viewing a structure of a literary work and esthetic means "employ with it". Linguistic Stylistics studies linguistic facts from the point of view of their ability to convey extra shades of meaning (connotations we call them). Any speech act (oral or written) is meant to pass an information. There are 2 types of information: 1. the content proper 2
make tourism an everyday practice through the ongoing physical mobility of backpacking. Although Pearce and Lee (2007) do refer to ‘travel career patterns’ to try to encapsulate how tourists may develop across time, lifestyle travel is distinctly not akin to career, which metaphorically implies a logic of production. As such, Uriely et al.’s (2002) reference to a backpacking biography presents an apt departure point in the backpacking literature for exploring how the episodic consumption of backpacking can be assembled into a meaningful and identifiable lifestyle. Lifestyle Consumption Although lifestyles can be used as a means of socially stratifying individuals, as one might do through social class, occupation, ethnicity or culture, it is important to locate lifestyles as products of the same post-industrial period they can be used to analyse (Binkley, 2004)
Other natural resources include: petroleum, paper and paper products, textiles, clothing and other consumer goods. 9. Culture The official literacy rate is 99%, which is normal by developed country standards. Universal state education was introduced for the primary level in the end of the 19 th century and secondary level at the beginning of the 20 th. Education is mandatory from ages five to sixteen. (Except when you are born in late July of August) Britain is also rich in literature and the best known writers in the world have been born there, such as William Shakespeare, who is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. Among the earliest writers are Geoffrey Chaucer, Thomas Malory, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf and of course J.K. Rowling. Scotland's contribution includes the detective writer A. C. Doyle, Sir Walter Scott, R. L. Stevenson and Robert Burns.

translation published in 1506 by Ordóñez. In this 1987 edition, the letter "El autor a un su amigo" and the poems at the beginning and end have been translated and added by Severin. Severin writes that "Mabbe's Jacobean style appears somewhat overwrought by comparison to the austerity of the original model, and is in fact quite a bit longer because of Mabbe's tendency to overexplain and to find synonymous words with which to amplify the text" (Severin p XV). The Jacobean style of literature are the works written during the reign of King James I of England. The period begins with some the last works by Shakespeare, and includes authors like Thomas Dekker and Ben Jonson. The theme of revenge was very popular during the Jacobean period, which was also characterized by dark moods, "questioning the stability of the social order." It is appropriate that Mabbe decided to translate this work, as it is easily adaptable to these themes
Summary • Early history of translation studies – Cicero and St. Jerome (what did they do/how/why are they relevant to translation studies?) St. Jerome – Greek scholar, did some translation work. Lived during the 4th century. Jerome is best known as the translator of the Bible into Latin. A previous version (now called the Old Latin) existed, but Jerome's version far surpassed it in scholarship and in literary quality. Jerome was well versed in classical Latin (as well as Greek and Hebrew), but deliberately translated the Bible into the style of Latin that was actually spoken and written by the majority of persons in his own time. This kind of Latin is known as Vulgate Latin (meaning the Latin of the common people), and accordingly Jerome's translation is called the Vulgate. Cicero – Lived during the 1st century BC. Roman politician, philosopher & translator. Theory ‘‘word-for-word’’ & ‘‘sense-for-sen...

profoundly as he stands nearer to the Source of all sources from which all the innermost sublime and substantial ideas stream. In this book Estonian symphonic music is discussed from its starting point, the pathetic overture Julius Caesar (1896) by Rudolf Tobias, up to the works of the young composers of the 1990s. This is the first book that presents a general treatment of the Estonian symphonic music. Other Estonian literature on this subject has offered a broader background. This book should appeal to composers, musicologists, conductors, educationalists, instrumentalists, music students, as well as everybody interested in Estonian symphonic music. The book is divided into 29 chapters where more than 70 orchestral compositions of 32 composers are examined. The background on the developments in music is illustrated through historical data and cultural achievements in literature, art,

I recall my love of art in the 3rd grade, of science in 8th grade, of comparative literature in 11th grade. Probably each student learns at an individual pace, and has personal likes and dislikes, yet overall some fair generalizations can be made about what approach usually works best for most children at various ages. Education for adults is so much different. Almost all of my teaching has been directed to adults. I've dealt with preschoolers, elementary and junior high school kids exclusively in my role as a plant expert showing them the joy and wonder of wild plants
Finishing school is the beginning of the independent life for millions of school leavers. Many roads are opened before them: vocational and technical schools, institutes and universities. But it is not an easy thing to choose a profession out of more than 2,000 existing in the world. Some pupils follow the advice of their parents, others can't decide even after leaving school. As for me, I made my choice long ago. I want to become a teacher of the Ukrainian language and literature. My choice of this occupation didn't come as a sudden flash. During all school years literature was my favourite subject. I've read a lot of books by Ukrainian and foreign writers. I understand that reading books helps people in self education and in solving different life problems. I would like to teach my pupils to enjoy reading, to encourage them to learn our national language and literature, which is the source of national culture. It is known that
Ta mõõdab lõikust. Järelvaatajad on ta selja taga keppidega, nuubialased nuiadega. Talle öeldakse: "Anna vilja." "Seda pole." Teda pekstakse metsikult. Ta seotakse kinni, visatakse kaevu, tema pead hoitakse vee all. Ta näeb, kuidas ta naine kinni seotakse. Tema lapsed on jalaraudades. Tema naabrid põgenevad. Kui see kõik lõpeb, vilja ei ole. " Sissejuhatus kirjakirjutamisesse kuningliku kirjutaja Nebmare-nakhti poolt (Miriam Lichtheim, Ancient Egyptian Literature ,University of California Press, 1976, I, pp. 168-173. ) Nebmare-nakhti kirjeldus põllumehe elust võib olla tendentslik, kuid ilmselt on see paljuski täpne. Talunike elu oli kindlasti raske. Tihti röövisid mitmesugused nuhtlused toodangu, mille saamiseks nad olid pikalt töötanud. Ka seadus sundis põllumehi märkimisväärset osa saagist ära andma. Aga siis said nad vähemalt midagi vastu. Ka jäi osa saagist riigiladudesse hädaolukordade tarvis. 3. Tööloomad ja tööriistad
Culture The culture of Estonia incorporates indigenous heritage. Due to its history and geography, Estonia's culture has been influenced by the traditions of the adjacent area's various Finnic, Baltic and Germanic peoples as well as the cultural developments in the former dominant powers Sweden and Russia. Though Estonian written language could be said to exist since J.J.Köhler translated the New Testament into Estonian in the 18th century as a result of the Reformation, few notable works of literature were written until the 19th century. In the 19th century Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald collected Estonian folk poetry and arranged and published them as Kalevipoeg, the Estonian national epic. The era saw a rise of poets and novelists who wrote in Estonian, notably Lydia Koidula. Modern Estonian popular music has received attention also in foreign countries, especially on the rock and metal scenes, with such bands as Vanilla Ninja, Metsatöll and Arvo Pärt gaining international acclaim.

Opera diva Kiri Te Kanawa performs regularly nationally and internationally. Writers such as Witi Ihimaera, Albert Wendt, Patricia Grace, and Keri Hulme are also international figures. Fine Arts In the past, Kiwis were hostile towards art. In 1982, the McDougall Gallery in Christchurch planned to spend $10,000 on a painting by Colin McCahon, arguably the country's most significant and contentious painter, and this triggered ire among locals. At present, however,
arts and commission works resulting in a proliferation of paintings and illuminated manuscripts. Increased literacy and a growing body of secular vernacular literature encouraged the representation of secular themes in art. With the growth of cities, trade guilds were formed and artists were often required to be members of a painters' guild--as a result, because of better record keeping, more artists are known to us by name in this period than any previous; some artists were even so bold as to sign their names.

24 VIIDATUD ALLIKAD Baldersone, S.J., Mabin, V.J. BOOKS (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) A book is a set or collection of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made of paper, parchment, or other various material, usually fastened together to hinge at one side. A single sheet within a book is called a leaf, and each side of a leaf is called a page. A book produced in electronic format is known as an electronic book (e-book). Books may also refer to works of literature, or a main division of such a work. In library and information science, a book is called a monograph, to distinguish it from serial periodicals such as magazines, journals or newspaper. The body of all written works including books is literature.
