Pop culture has defined the noble savage as a mentor to the modern man, a guide to the spiritual world and to the ways of the nature. In order to qualify as a mentor the character must give us a different perspective on what we are used to experiencing.

Puritanism in John Winthrop "A model of Christian Charity"

01.2015 Puritanism in A model of Christian Charity A modell of Christian charity, also known as A City on a Hill, is the kind of Puritan literature example that can fade the suspicious reader’s doubts in the Puritan main ideology and beliefs. At least, this is how it seemed to me. This sermon can be seen as a gateway to the Puritan society’s attitude and mindset as it is one of the most classical examples of the Puritan era literature. Although John Winthrop was the leader of the Massachusetts Bay Colony which was filled with corrupted chiefs, he vigorously emphasizes in his writings the unity of community, love of others and morals of equality. This sermon also represents the hope of the colony in God after repudiating the Church of England. In his sermon A modell of Christian charity, reliance to the Bible is the key element which reveals in the interpretation of God itself and morals of the Bible

Pride and Prejudice Book Report

This is the beginning of their wonderful love story. My opinion: I found the book quite interesting, not as good as I had expected or hoped, but still something different from the usual books I read. It is a classical love story, how a man and a woman at first loath each other and later on fall in love. But it can be said that it is a quite women- dominating story, as it shows women having power, although little, but still- and how it was uncommon those days to praise women in literature. Women are desperate to find a man to marry, especially a rich man, then they submit to their husbands, if not they are off to find a new one. Most of the action happens at balls. It is depicted as dances were the center of social world. Dancing seemed to be the only way how women could meet men, which is very unreasonable in my opinion, but what can I do? Women choose men by counting their finances rather than admireing their looks or personalities.

Me and languages

Communication or language is a process every child learns from birth and during our life we will usually learn many different languages. Due to the fact that both of my parents are Estonians , my mother tongue is Estonian, therefore I can speak and write in it very fluently. I also prefer read the books in Estonian. I know that some people like to do it in some other languages, in English for instance. I am really amused by the Estonian literature. I like to read books and stories from Andrus Kivirähk and F.R. Kreutzwald. English is one of the world most spoken language. You can hear it everywhere, no matter which part of the world are you in. In the third grade of elementary scool I started to learn English as a second language so since then i have learned it for nine years and i have reached the level of B2, like all the poeple in Estonia who have finished the high school. The Pre-Raphaelites

They had their supporters among middle classes of the Midlands and North of England. Even thou the brotherhood lasted only about five years its impact to art lasted up to the 20 th century. At first the realistic movement predominated but later the mystical medievalism of Rossetti became more influential. Pre-Raphaelitism hung on in British art until after World war I, but it no longer represented the feelings and ideas of society. During Queen Victoria`s reign interest grew in classical literature and the history of ancient Greece and Rome, as well as in the legendary medieval past of Britain itself. Artists started to combine sex and art in a tasteful manner acceptable to Victorian sensibility- paintings of Greek and Roman ladies at their bath and in other intimate situations. The technical expectations were very high towards these paintings. A new current was set in motion by Rossetti, who was a poet as well as a painter. He developed a style

Short overview of London

has been divided into 32 London boroughs. However, it is a city that is surprisingly easy to get around, with the comprehensive and easily navigated London Underground or `Tube'. London's population was 7,172,000 on the latest Census Day of April 2001. This is 14.6 per cent of the total population of Britain. The people of London have great love for theatre, opera, films, music, sports, and arts. Most of the London films are premiered at Leicester Square. The love for literature has made London the setting for many dramas, plays, novels, and short stories. Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, Arthur Conan Doyle, are just a few names to mention among the many littérateurs. London's climate is among the mildest in England, with damp but mild winters and moderate summers. January is the coolest month, July being the warmest. It very rarely freezes in London.

Estonian national holidays

War of Independence when Estonian forces defeated the German troops on 23 June 1919. After this battle against Estonia's traditional oppressors, the lighting of the traditional bonfires became linked with the ideals of independence and freedom. St John's Day marks a change in the farming year, specifically the break between the completion of spring sowing and the hard work of summer haymaking. Midsummer's eve is important for lovers. Among Estonian fairy tales and literature there is the tale of two lovers, Koit and Hämarik. The tradition before the Soviet occupation, which has now been restored, was for a fire to be lit by the Estonian President on the morning of Victory Day. From this fire, the flame of independence was carried across the country to light the many bonfires. St John's Day became an unofficial holiday, with many work places closing down. It once again became an official national holiday in 1992.

People restrict themselves in food, but in such a manner they are depriving themselves of the important components necessary for the efficiency of the body. Personally, I faced with such diseases and it was hard enough to deal with this by myself. In order to return a healthy appetite, I read a lot of literature but was not sure that I would find the correct way to restore health. That`s why, I want to study Nutrition and Food Science course. I desire to help people cope with eating diseases and find out more about healthy eating, explore the foundations of human nutrition, food science and safety. While the function of television is frequently debated among cultural and media critics, some of the most commonly recognized functions of television are to educate, inform and entertain. These three functions are hardly separate from one another, and many television programs perform some combination of the three. A commonly held but more pessimistic view is that television's primary function is to make money.Educational television programming can focus on art, history, literature, politics, science, economics and just about any other branch of human knowledge in existence. Children's programming, such as "Sesame Street," also helps educate children on fundamental knowledge, such as the alphabet and basic colors. Closely linked to education is television's function of informing viewers. News and current affairs programs help viewers stay up to date on the world around them, creating a more informed populace that is aware of politics and current events. https://www

The Life of Dante, the Inferno of Dante

to convey his interpretation of the nature of human existence. He writes in the first person so the reader can identify and deeply understand the truths he wished to share about the meaning of life and man's relationship with the Creator. Dante is remembered as a great thinker and one of the most learned writers of all time. Many scholars consider his epic poem The Divine Comedy consisting of Inferno, Paradiso, and Purgatorio, among the finest works of all literature. Critics have praised it not only as magnificent poetry, but also for its wisdom and scholarly learning. Dante was a man who lived, who saw political and artistic success, and who was in love. He was also a man who was defeated, who felt danger and the humiliation of exile, and who was no stranger to the cruelty and treachery possible in people. Dante felt he was a victim of a grave injustice. He also suffered serious self-doubts, natural for a man in exile

Ireland report

[19] Along with Camogie, Ladies' Gaelic football, handball and rounders, they make up the national sports of Ireland, collectively known as Gaelic Games. All GAA players, even at the highest level, are amateurs and receive no wages. Golf is a popular sport in Ireland and golf tourism is a major industry. Culture Literature and the arts For an island of relatively small population, Ireland has made a disproportionately large contribution to world literature in all its branches, mainly in English. Poetry in Irish represents the oldest vernacular poetry in Europe with the earliest examples dating from the 6th century; Jonathan Swift, still often called the foremost satirist in the English language, was wildly popular in his day and remains so in modern times amongst both children and adults. Music and dance The Irish tradition of folk music and dance is also widely known. In the middle years of the 20th century,

Ireland

History **** A long cold climatic spell prevailed until about 9,000 years ago, and most of Ireland was covered with ice. This era was known as the Ice Age. Population The populaion of Republic of Ireland is about three and a half million people and two offical languages English, and Gaelic, which is spoken by about half a million people. Economy **** Culture For an island of relatively small population, Ireland has made a disproportionately large contribution to world literature in all its branches, mainly in English. Poetry in Irish represents the oldest vernacular poetry in Europe with the earliest examples dating from the 6th century; Jonathan Swift, still often called the foremost satirist in the English language, was wildly popular in his day and remains so in modern times amongst both children and adults. The Irish tradition of folk music and dance is also widely known. In the middle years of the 20th century, as Irish society was attempting to modernise,

The Role of the Hippie Movement in 21st Century Britain

the goal. They are seeking a connection in their work, and in their nonwork lives. In their nonwork lives this is exemplified by a quest for smaller, purer production, and an embrace of individualism and the spirit of the garage tinkerer. They are embracing handmade crafts, small-batch beers, artisanal cheesemaking, farm-to-table food. The impact, good and bad, of the 1960’s hippie movement cannot be denied. The movement influenced popular music, television, film, literature, and the arts. The music industry, particularly the rock music segment, experienced an explosion in sales that has continued to this day. In subsequent years, unmarried couples no longer felt persecuted for living together. Frankness regarding sexual matters was common. Religious and cultural diversity gained greater acceptance. Even fashion was impacted as the popularity of the necktie and other business apparel declined and was replaced by more casual dress standards.

Feministlik kirjandusteooria

Feministid. Elaine Showalter Elaine Showalter (sündinud 1941) on Ameerika feministliku kirjanduskriitika rajaja, kes keskendus naiste kogemustele ja naiste kirjutamisele. Tema kõige mõjukam raamat on A Literature of Their Own (,,Nende oma kirjandus"). Showalter arvab, et kui ajalugu üle vaadata võime tähele panna naiste kirjanduse pärandit. Kõige tähtsam saavutus on tema naiste kirjandustraditsiooni sõnastus läbi kolme faasi. Esimesena on valdava traditsiooni jäljendamine; kunstilised normid, et traditsioon nagu ka 3 ,,A History of Literary Criticism" M. A. R. Habib (lk 682 693)

Culture Scottish music is a significant aspect of the nation's culture, with both traditional and modern influences. An example of a traditional Scottish instrument is the Great Highland Bagpipe, a wind instrument consisting of three drones and a melody pipe (called the chanter), which are fed continuously by a reservoir of air in a bag.Scottish literature includes text written in English, Scottish Gaelic, Scots, French, and Latin. The poet and songwriter Robert Burns wrote in the Scots language, although much of his writing is also in English and in a "light" Scots dialect which is more accessible to a wider audience.Sport is an important element in Scottish culture, with the country hosting many of its own national sporting competitions, and enjoying independent representation at many international sporting events such as the FIFA World

Why I came to study English essay

my love of reading in English. I had always loved to read, but many of the books I loved had not been translated into Estonian, so naturally I had to read them in English. At the end of the 9th grade I actually made a promise to myself, that I would try to graduate high school with good grades, but I would not bother torturing myself with mathematics anymore and that I would concentrate on the things I'm good at, like literature and English and other languages. Finally, 12th grade came and I already knew that I would like to study something with English or Public Relations or maybe those two together. I managed to pass all of my exams and graduate and then came the dreaded time of waiting to hear back from the universities. At the end, I had to choose between Spanish and English and naturally I chose English. I just feel so comfortable reading in English or writing in English. I don't remember when I last used

English portfolio

The number of Baltic German students increased in Halle, the centre of German Pietism. One of the leaders of the movement, August Hermann Francke, also dispatched Pietist pastors to fill the numerous teaching posts at Estonian church and town schools left vacant by the Northern War. Pietism stressed individual religious experience and encouraged the faithful to read the Bible themselves. The Pietists thus strove to develop the Estonian language and religious literature. The full vernacular Bible appeared in 1739. The translators tried to eliminate the vast difference between the `country language' and `church language'. The Bible translation became the basic text that regulated the written Estonian language for more than a century. Despite its enormous impact on the development of the Estonian language, individualistic Pietism found a direct response primarily among the German-speaking clergy and nobility.
