Seda referaati tehes ning tohutult materjale lugedes sain ise ka vägagi palju uut informatsiooni teada. 5. Mati Hint USA-s, väliseestlased, välismaailm Veidi enne Balti ketti läks Mati Hint esimese Eesti esindajana USA-sse. Ta külastas seal erinevaid linnu, Harvardi ülikooli ja Eesti konsulaati, kus kõneles Baltimaade olukorrast ja Eesti suhetest Moskvaga. 23. augustil pidasid nad koos leedulase Linas Kucinskasega Hartfordis meeleavalduse, millele järgnes lippudega rongkäik. Ta andis mitmeid intervjuusid ja sai sellele suurepärast vastukaja. Samuti esines populaarses saates News Hour, kus ta pidas tunniajase teledebati koos Eesti-sõbraliku poliitiku Paul Globe'ga. Osadel väliseestlastel oli ekslikke artikleid lugedes ja kõnesid kuulates tekkinud RR-st arvamus kui riigireetjast. Mati Hint pidas Eesti majas kõne, kus ta selgitas Eesti tegelikke olusid ning sai suurepärase vastukaja osaliseks.
