Topic - Health

Health 2007 1. Introduction Health is the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of an organism at both the cellular and social level. In the medical field, health is commonly defined as an organism's ability to succesfully respond to challenges and effectively restore and keep a so-called ,,state of balance". 2. History · Early hospitals During the Middle Ages the hospital could serve other functions, such as an almshouse for the poor, or hostel for pilgrims. In ancient cultures, religion and medicine were linked. The earliest known institutions aiming to provide cure were Egyptian temples. Greek temples dedicatedto the healer-god, might admit the sick, who would wait for guidance from the god in a dream. The Romans adopted this worship. The Sri Lankans are perhaps responsible for introducing theconcept ofdedicated hospitals

Doctors who provide medical care can be divided into two main categories: general practitioners and specialists. General practitioners provide primary medical care only. But they treat a wide variety of ailments. They provide care for every member of the family, regardless of the age . Specialists specialize in a certain field of medicine. Doctors could not do their job without the help of many skilled professionals. Nurses work closely with doctors in the clinics, hospitals and medical centres. Nurses also provide many services to patients independent of the doctors. Various kinds of therapists give special treatment as ordered by the doctor. Other skilled workers serve clinics, medical laboratories, X-ray departments and operating theatres. Diseases There are many different diseases in the world. Some have been stamped out, others have improved and come back. New diseases have also developed, such as AIDS, stress, diabetes etc

And what can you do to protect against MRSA infection? James Steckelberg, M.D., an infectious disease specialist at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., answers these and other common questions about MRSA. What is MRSA, and why is it sometimes referred to as a "superbug"? · MRSA in hospitals. MRSA infection is caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria - often called "staph." Many years ago, a strain of staph emerged in hospitals that was resistant to the broad-spectrum antibiotics commonly used to treat it. Dubbed methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), it has been called a "superbug" by the media because of its multiple drug resistance. MRSA can cause serious,

against the tourism. Firstly, the main advantage of tourism is that it gives people places to work. For instance hotels, bars and museums. Due to that, the standards of living increases and unemployment decrease. Secondly, many countries depend on the money whick tourism brings. It can help developing countries to become stabled. By attracting people from almost everywhere, the area can get much money in order to develop the other public services such as hospitals and schools. My life without the Internet

The Internet is the latest in a series of technological breakthroughs in interpersonal communication, following the telegraph, telephone, radio, and television. The humanity of today wouldn't imagine the life without the internet anymore. Internet is now dominating in the communication between republics too. The evidence suggests that the Internet has blended into the rhythms of everyday life: the Internet is used at work, in schools, in universities, and hospitals etc. It is used for a wide variety of purposes, such as surfing for information, working, playing online games, and just chatting. The fact that people are not interacting in visible public spaces does not mean that they are in isolation. It is just sometimes quicker and easier way to find needed information and for some people who simply don't have time to meet and have a chat in a cafe or somewhere it might be the only way to chat.

Advantages and disadvantages living in a city

There are many advantages and disadvantages living in a city and in the countryside. Some people prefer to stay in the countryside and say that they couldn't live anywhere else. Some people think the opposite. I think that there are many advantages of living in a big city. First of all, there are many opportunities to spend your free time. There are theatres, shopping centres, galleries and entertainment places. In a big city there are also hospitals and schools nearby. Also it is much easier to find a job in a big city, because there are many companies, which are located in a central city. Of course, public transport in a big city is much more comfortable, than in a countryside. There are also many disadvantages of living in a big city. In the morning the streets are crowded, because everybody has to go to work and they only use cars or public transport, which means that there are traffics.

Is it better to live in a city or is the countryside?

You will never run out of activities to do. While that may be true, there are some things that you can only do in the countryside for example going fishing, camping or playing outside with your pets. A calm rural lifestyle is for people who enjoy peace and quiet. In addition to that there is fresh air, which is good for your health. You are also more likely to be more active and walk in the nature. Having said that, in the city there are hospitals and drugstores nearby, so if you get sick or injured, you will have drugs and helpful doctors right around the corner. From my point of view, living in a city is easier and better because I can have pretty much everything I want, at any time day or night. Public transportation saves the need for a car. All my friends are nearby and I can stay socially active. In conclusion, I believe living in a city has more advantages

Life in the future

Life in the future In the domain of technology, robots will have replaced people in factories. Many factories already use robots. Big companies prefer robots- they do not ask for pay rises or go on strike, and they work 24 hours a day. By 2050, we will see robots everywhere- in factories, schools, offices, hospitals, shops and homes. In the 2050 every human have an opportunity to go on space travel, because space travels will cost less. Even the poor people can allow this. Schooling will be much better and cheaper (in the long run) in 2050. The word ,,school" will no longer be in our vocabulary. School will be called a ,,work force". There will be no more textbooks, paper, pens or pencils. Everything will be done electronically. Classes will be conjoyned together

Music therapy

Playing music in the background while we are working, seemingly unaware of the music itself, has been found to reduce the stress. Music was found to reduce heart rates and to promote higher body temperature - an indication of the onset of relaxation. Combining music with relaxation therapy was more effective than doing relaxation therapy alone. Those who practice music therapy are finding a benefit in using music to help cancer patients, children with ADD, and others, and even hospitals are beginning to use music and music therapy to help with pain management, to help ward off depression, to promote movement, to calm patients, to ease muscle tension, and for many other benefits that music and music therapy can bring With all these benefits that music can carry, it's no surprise that music therapy is growing in popularity.

Advantages and disadvantages of living in the countryside

People in the cities are always under pressure and stress, they always have to be up to date with technologies and there is no time to relax. People suffer from many health problems that live in city and especially they suffer a lot in the old ages. Also all services are easily reachable in city area. Moreover, city provides better prospects of life, such as hospital, bank, shops. Another advantage is that the city provides better medical services. Best hospitals, medical centers are built in big towns so that majority of people can have medical facilities. Another point in support of living in the city is the available of jobs. A little consideration, a little thought for others makes all the difference

your thinking you will change your feelings. While you are feeling positive it is more easy to change others. You have to be honest with everything and everybody. Do not be afraid to say what you are thinking or feeling. You may regret that what you did not said. Help others with their problems, even if they are just strangers to you. There are always something good in people even if they do bad things, remember that. When you see good in people you will feel more positive. Donate to hospitals or people who need it. You do not need to donate to everybody, but if you can, it would be nice. You can also donate blood or organs. Many people need those things. Think of it, that you can save someone’s life. Do not never lie. Lying is very bad and it takes lot energy, because you have to remember everything what you have said before. Do not hate anybody. Forgive everyone, it may take time, but forgive. Forgiveness will make you feel better and happier

The most important thing, though, is to have high quality instruments and to keep them well taken care of. Music therapy has existed in its common current form in the United States since around 1944. Live music was used in hospitals after both of the World Wars, as part of the regime for some recovering soldiers. Music has been shown to affect portions of the brain. Part of this therapy is the ability of music to affect emotions and social interactions. Music may reduce heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure in patients with coronary heart disease. Benefits included a decrease in blood pressure, heart rate, and levels of anxiety in heart patients.

My parents advised me to be a doctor too and I think this is correct. At the same time, helping people and giving them my knowledge, care and attention, I think that I will also receive a good salary. I hope that this will be so, because the doctors are always in demand and they can work in schools, hospitals and medical institutions. From my point of view, are also important conditions: clean rooms, lunch-break, pleasant environment and so on. I would like to have a holidays and sometimes bonuses, I also would like that I get on with my co- workers and we would have been friendly. Living in the countryside – a pleasant experience or a never-ending hardship?

As well as there is a positive sides living in the countryside, there are also negative sides. The main disadvantage is that the rate of unemployment is high. Many people do not have a job and they have to make living of grewing vegetables and fruits as well keep animals to survive. Also there are problems with communication. There might not be internet or television connection. Also, if you do not have a car, then going to work might be complicated. The same problem concerns the access to the hospitals, schools, police stations and shops, which are usually located far from the village. Last of all, there are some dangers connected with country life such as heavy snowfall or rainfall. To sum up, I think that living in a city would be easier and more comfortable, but living in a countryside is definately better if you prefer peace and quiet. I personally think that it is good, when you have a experience living in both places. Then you can compare and thimk which one suits you better.

Keen is studying doxycycline, one of the widely used class of antibiotics. Their research to date is showing that chlorine used to treat wastewater is actually changing the makeup of the doxycycline and forming new antibiotics. Subsequently, the question arises: how do all the antibiotics find their way into wastewater? Olya Keen answers: ”Those that are not broken down by the organisms are passed to wastewater, also, expired antibiotics from homes and hospitals are dumped into wastewater.” For example, the problem is actual in China. It has about a fifth of the world’s population, but it accounts for half of the world’s consumption of antibiotics, according to the study, conducted by the Guanghzou Institute of Geochemistry. Total consumption in 2013 was 162,000 tons. Furthermore, Ying Guangguo, the lead researcher of the topic has said: “There are no regulations for farms in China for how to manage their wastewater. Offering long-term nursing care in Estonia is becoming increasingly more important due to the aging of the population. More attention is being paid to how patients cope and this requires close cooperation and communication between the patient, their next of kin, hospitals and national social welfare. The structural change that occurred in the East Tallinn Central Hospital (ETCH) in 2006, according to which medical rehabilitation was separated from the current comprehensive clinic, was the biggest change for departments engaged in long-term nursing. In addition to the long-term nursing centre at Järve, the Department of Patients without Medical Insurance is also part of the Clinic.

problems of delayed discharge. Across the local care economy, the focus on coordinating services is now seen as a mutual responsibility driven by a common belief that, together, health and social care agencies and professionals can make the best use of limited funding, promote wellbeing and address health inequalities. However, the policy drive for organisational integration of community services means that Milton Keynes may be required to more closely integrate with hospitals and/or general practices; health services that have not previously been involved in integrated care within Milton Keynes. 6 What is integrated care? There is some emerging evidence of the benefits of integration within the NHS, for example in improving access to care, managing demand and reducing delayed transfers (Ham and de Silva, 2009). However, empirical research on the impact of integrated health systems in respect of clinical outcomes and value for money

Referaat Islami usust

The spread of the Islamic dominion induced hostility among medieval ecclesiastical Christian authors who saw Islam as an adversary in the light of the large numbers of new Muslim converts. This opposition resulted in polemical treatises which depicted Islam as the religion of the antichrist and of Muslims as libidinous and subhuman. Córdoba, the largest Muslim city of the world in 1000, was home to about half a million people. Public hospitals established during this time, are considered "the first hospitals" in the modern sense of the word and issued the first medical diplomas to license doctors of medicine. The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes the University of Al Karaouine as the oldest degree-granting university in the world with its founding in 859 CE. The origins of the doctorate also dates back to the license to teach and issue legal opinions in madrasahs which taught law

He was commissioned as a second lieutenant and completed his training as a tank commander. He served for 77 days on the front line in the Afghan War, although he was pulled out after an American website revealed his presence there. CHARITY WORK Diana became increasingly associated with numerous charities. As Princess of Wales she was expected to visit hospitals, schools, etc. Diana developed an intense interest in serious illnesses and health- related matters, including AIDS and leprosy. She was one of the first very high profile people to be pictured touching those afflicted with AIDS. This had a significant impact in changing people's opinions and attitudes to the disease. She was very at ease in meeting people from any background and even if they were ill or in hospices. The patients would react very favorably to her meetings

pantries, certain public benefits, and in some cases, emergency shelters. Obtaining replacement identification is difficult. Without an address, birth certificates cannot be mailed. Fees may be cost-prohibitive for impoverished persons. And some states will not issue birth certificates unless the person has photo identification, creating a Catch-22. This problem is far less acute in countries which provide free-at-use health care, such as the UK, where hospitals are open-access day and night, and make no charges for treatment. In the US, free-care clinics, especially for the homeless do exist in major cities, but they are usually over-burdened with patients. The conditions affecting the homeless are somewhat specialized and have opened a new area of medicine tailored to this population. Skin conditions and diseases abound, because homeless people are exposed to extreme cold in the winter and they have little access to bathing facilities

The Origins of American Literature

In 1855 Leaves of Grass, a collection of 12 poems, was published with a portrait of an anonymous poet in working man's clothes on the title page. Whitman's mentor, the influential poet Ralph Waldo Emerson hailed his work as `the most extraordinary piece of wit and wisdom that an American has yet contributed'. However, other literary critics and the reading public were unimpressed. The Civil War years During the Civil War, Whitman served as a volunteer nurse in military hospitals and as a correspondent for The New York Times. His experience among the wounded inspired him to write two collections of poems: Drum Taps (1865) and Sequel (1865-66), which includes his famous elegy to Abraham Lincoln, `O Captain! My Captain!' Last years He spent the rest of his life working on the subsequent editions of Leaves of Grass, which grew to include 400 poems. His literary achievements were largely

Standard at pre-World War I parities. Ernest Miller Hemingway Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961), born in Oak Park, Illinois, started his career as a writer in a newspaper office in Kansas City at the age of seventeen. After the United States entered the First World War, he joined a volunteer ambulance unit in the Italian army. Serving at the front, he was wounded, was decorated by the Italian Government, and spent considerable time in hospitals. After his return to the United States, he became a reporter for Canadian and American newspapers and was soon sent back to Europe to cover such events as the Greek Revolution. During the twenties, Hemingway became a member of the group of expatriate Americans in Paris, which he described in his first important work, The Sun Also Rises (1926). The Witch Trials in Salem

connected to the peasant rebellions of the time. Any peasant organization, just by being an organization, would attract dissidents, increase communicationn between villages, and build a spirit of collectivity and autonomy among peasants. Witches as healers The witch is accused not only of murdering and poisoning, sex crimes and conspiracy but of helping and healing. Witch-healers were often the only general medical practioners for peole who had no doctors and no hospitals and who were bitterly afflicted with poverty and disease. In particular, the association of the witch and the midwife was strong. The Church was not against medical care for upper class. Kings and nobless had their court physicians who were men, sometimes even priests. The real issue was control: Male upper class healing under the auspices of the Church was acceptable; female healing as part of a peasant subculture was not.

Phillip, and so on. However, the word reign is also used to reflect the supremacy of a king or queen in royal rule or authority as in King Edward reigned. Reign is also used to indicate something that is predominant or prevalent as in the reign of terror or panic reigned. To rule Rule is a word that is primarily used to refer to a set of regulations or guidelines that are put in place within a place or aspect of life. and towers adorned fortified bridges such the 1355 Pont Valentré at Cahors (France) or the Monnow Bridge (1272, 1296) at Monmouth, Wales (UK), which were built with defensive ramparts, firing slits, and drawspans. Christian religious orders formed after the fall of the Roman Empire greatly assisted travellers by building bridges. In western and central Europe, religious groups managed popular financial institutions, with Papal sanction, both for bridge construction and for hospitals. The influence of these groups lasted from the end of the 12th to the early 14th century, and their perseverance ensured the construction of major bridges over wide rivers as the Rhône and the Danube. The bridge over the Rhône at Avignon (1187), for example, a wooden deck on stone piers, was built by such an order under the inspired vision of a young shepherd, later canonized as St Bénézet for his accomplishment

Public International Law is a system of law

Perfidy behaviour diminishes the protection for real victims, that's why it's a war crime. You should distinguish between perfidy and for example the misuse of red cross, because it's not for military advantage. Regular misinformation (camouflage etc), then it's not perfidy, because it's not the misuse of the protection of IHL. E.g. waving the white flag and then starts shooting is perfidy. Using safety zones such as hospitals for the location of military zones is perfidy. Starvation terrorism there's no universal definition for it. Each convention provides the definition itself. Here in I Additional Protocol terrorizing the civilian population at time of war. Crime of aggression crime against peace very problematic, hasn't been involved since the Nürnberg trial or Tokyo Aggression - is the use of armed force by a State against the sovereignty, territorial integrity or
