control woody plant species. Grazing animals can have a more direct effect on woody plants by the browsing of palatable woody species. There is evidence that unpalatable woody plants have increased under grazing in savannas. Grazing also promotes the spread of weeds in savannas by the removal or reduction of the plants which would normally compete with potential weeds and hinder establishment. In addition to this cattle and horses are implicated in the spread of the seeds of weed species such as Prickly Acacia and Stylo. These alterations in savanna species composition brought about by grazing can alter ecosystem function, and are exacerbated by overgrazing and poor land management practices. Introduced grazing animals can also affect soil condition through physical compaction and break-up of the soil caused by the hooves of animals and through the erosion effects caused by the removal of protective plant cover

Inglise keele stilistika II

There is also a logical climax the way the author sees the things happened. The function of climax is to show the significance of things as the author sees them. ANTICLIMAX ANTICLIMAX means a comic, satiric effect by arranging sentences in such a way that the aroused expectations are disappointed. (paradoxes are often based on anticlimax). NT: Women have a wonderful instinct of things. They can discover everything except the obvious. NT: I know two things about the horses. And on of them is rather coarse. SUSPENSE SUSPENSE means holding the reader in a tense anticipation. This is achieved by special construction of the sentence in which the main part of information comes at the end of the sentence. The sentence must be long. NT: The day on which I take the happiest and best step of my life the day in which I shall be man, more enviable than any other man in the world the day on which I give bleek house its little mistress shall be next month.

imported Caen stone. It was even bigger than the present day St Paul's and its spire was the tallest ever built. When the spire was struck by lightning in the mid 16th century, it was not rebuilt. During the English Civil War and the period of the Cromwell's rule, the Commonwealth, an enormous amount of damage was done to the fabric of the building. Windows, statues, carvings and the nave roof were destroyed. During the war, the Parliamentary army used the nave to stable their horses and later the porch of the Cathedral was rented to small businesses. In 1660 King Charles II was restored to the throne. By this time St Paul's was in a desperate state so Christopher Wren was consulted about repairs to restore its former grandeur. Before the recommended repairs could be undertaken, the cathedral was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. The ruins were demolished and a new design by Wren, the one we see today, was built

Foursyte Saga - The Man of Property

John Galsworthy The Man of Property PREFACE "The Forsyte Saga" was the title originally destined for that part of it which is called "The Man of Property"; and to adopt it for the collected chronicles of the Forsyte family has indulged the Forsytean tenacity that is in all of us. The word Saga might be objected to on the ground that it connotes the heroic and that there is little heroism in these pages. But it is used with a suitable irony; and, after all, this long tale, though it may deal with folk in frock coats, furbelows, and a gilt- edged period, is not devoid of the essential heat of conflict. Discounting for the gigantic stature and blood-thirstiness of old days, as they have come down to us in fairy-tale and legend, the folk of the old Sagas were Forsytes, assuredly, in their possessive instincts, and as little proof against the inroads of beauty and passion as Swithin, Soames, or even Young Jolyon. And if heroic figures, in ...

houses are the mute witnesses of those times. The riches and cultural heritage of Mulgimaa owe to the diligence and tenacity of the local people. Village handicraftsmen and masters have always been honoured. Mulgikapsad (stewed sauerkraut with barley groats), Estonian cheesecakes and kama (a roasted meal-mixture) have not lost their popularity. However, linen growers have now been replaced by cereal grains growers and many farms have specialised on raising sheep or horses. And as the song goes: "Mulgimaa it's a place where life is good. It's a land of vast woods, fertile fields and nature's charms, the home of prosperous Estonian farms..." Tourism and handicraft in Lõuna-Viljandimaa Lõuna- Viljandimaa captivates senses with its beautiful landscapes. Lõuna- Viljandimaa as we know it today stays in the heart of the historic Mulgimaa. The Magi are particularly revered in Spain. It is believed that they travel through the countryside reenacting their journey to Bethlehem every year at this time. Children leave their shoes on the windowsills and fill them with straw, carrots, and barley or the horses of the Wise Men. Their favorite is Balthazar who rides a donkey and is the one believed to leave the gifts. The Spanish Christmas is Navidad, people go to church, exchange presents, and many play on swing sets set up especially for the occasion. Swinging at solstice time evokes an ancient desire to encourage the sun, urging it to "swing" ever higher in the sky. Christmas in Syria

E.M.Remarque "Läänerindel Muutuseta"

Paul attempts to place a terrified recruit's helmet back on the recruit's head, but the boy cowers under Paul's arm. Paul places the helmet on the recruit's behind to protect it from shell fragments. After the shelling lessens, the recruit comes to and notices with embarrassment that he has defecated in his pants. Paul explains that many soldiers experience this problem at first. He instructs the boy to remove his underpants and throw them away. The men hear the wrenching sounds of wounded horses shrieking in agony. Detering is particularly horrified because he is a farmer and loves horses. After the wounded men are gathered, those in charge of shooting the wounded animals do their job. Detering declares with disgust that using horses in war is the "vilest baseness." As the trucks drive the men back, Kat becomes restless. A flurry of bombs then lands around them. The men take cover in a nearby graveyard. Paul crawls under an uncovered coffin for protection

Jacques Louis David ja Prantsuse Revolutsioon

Historians found out that during the French Revolution, people who saw the painting would become more affectionate towards the Revolution and the new Republic, and would see Marat as a role model. (Vaughan,????????????????, p.56, 57) Last but not least, the third martyr that David depicted was Joseph Bara. Bara was a young boy, who anchored himself to an army fighting the opposers of the Revolution. He was murdered, because he refused to give away two horses to the counterrevolutionaries. David portrayed him as an innocent victim and therefore the painting of Bara was very different from two previous martyr portrays. Bara is depicted as lying naked on the ground with a national emblem in his hand. David did not paint the real story, but instead portrayed Bara as being killed after being surrounded by enemies who demanded him to cry out `Long live the King!' . As usual for Jacques-Louis David, he made the story and the person better than it

There are only few ordinary mammals in Australia: dingoes, which are wild grown dogs and brumbies, which are wild grown horses. The Englishmen brought rabbits to Australia and soon they became wild and numerous being the real pests of the fields and pastures today. That's why Rabbit Proof fences were built. The Most Important Buildings in Lai Street in Tallinn

It was thoroughly repaired in the first half of the 16th century, in 1701-1702 it was again under repairs and by 1741 once more dilapidated. Then it was turned over to the army as a storehouse. In 1757 the mill and the palace of Peter I in its vicinity burnt down. The ruins were rented out in 1772 to be built into stores. In the late 19th and early 20th century St Olaf's congregation used the building as a hearse-shed. Nothing has remained of the mill's equipment, in general such mills used horses as a power source. Moving in circle they operated the millstone in the basement by means of gear system. Today the building belongs to the city and is used by the City Theatre. 12 50 Lai Street The church got its name after king Olaf II Haraldson and was dedicated to St Olaf, who in Estonia was the patront saint of seafarers. The Middle Ages

In 1485 Henry Tudor, duke of Richmond defeated Richard's army & was crowned king at once in the battlefield. This year has usually been taken to mark the end of the Middle Ages. The Wars of the Roses lasted fron 1450-1485. Many nobles were killed, ordinary people knew and cared little about it. Government & Society. Language & Culture. Society was still based upon rank. At the top were dukes, earls & other lords. Below these were knights (most were not heavily armed fighters on horses, but ,,gentlemen farmers" or ,,landed gentry") who had increased their landholdings & improved farming methods. This class had grown in numbers. Edward I had ordered that all those with income of L20 a year must be made knights, so even some yeomen farmers became part of the ,,landed gentry", while many ,,esquires" who had served knights, now became knights themselves. Next to the gentlemen were ordinary freemen of the towns.

ASPECTS OF BRITISH HISTORY

What territories did they occupy in ancient times? What happened to them? The first real civilization was brought to Britain in the third millennium BC by the Iberians who arrived from the Iberian Peninsula in Southern Europe. The Iberians were skilled in the use of copper and gold; they made copper daggers and axes, traded in gold and copper ornaments. In the second millennium they started using bronze. The Iberians were farmers who bred cattle and probably tamed horses. The Celtic Settlement Towards the Christian era, there was an Iron Age Celtic culture throughout the British Isles. The Celts1 had been arriving from Europe from the eighth century BC onwards. The Celts began to control all the lowland areas of Britain and, with new waves of settlers coming one after another, gradually spread all over Britain and the other islands. It seems that the Celts mixed with the Iberian peoples who were already there. It

"That would be a good scheme," said Elizabeth, "if you were sure that they would not offer to send her home." "Oh! but the gentlemen will have Mr. Bingley's chaise to go to Meryton, and the Hursts have no horses to theirs." "I had much rather go in the coach." "But, my dear, your father cannot spare the horses, I am sure. They are wanted in the farm, Mr. Bennet, are they not?" "They are wanted in the farm much oftener than I can get them." "But if you have got them to-day," said Elizabeth, "my mother's purpose will be answered." She did at last extort from her father an acknowledgment that the horses were engaged.

William Shakespeare - Hamlet

carriages, in faith, are very dear to fancy, very responsive to the hilts, most delicate carriages, and of very liberal conceit. HAMLET What call you the carriages? HORATIO I knew you must be edified by the margent ere you had done. OSRIC The carriages, sir, are the hangers. HAMLET 188 The phrase would be more german to the matter, if we could carry cannon by our sides: I would it might be hangers till then. But, on: six Barbary horses against six French swords, their assigns, and three liberal-conceited carriages; that's the French bet against the Danish. Why is this 'imponed,' as you call it? OSRIC The king, sir, hath laid, that in a dozen passes between yourself and him, he shall not exceed you three hits: he hath laid on twelve for nine; and it would come to immediate trial, if your lordship would vouchsafe the answer. HAMLET How if I answer 'no'? OSRIC I mean, my lord, the opposition of your person in trial.

It slows down the utterance on the one hand, but on the other it makes the utterance more rhythmical. "or" stresses equal importance of the listed items; "and" gives energetic impact (e.g. "And the coach, and the coachman, and the horses rattled, and jangled, and whipped, and cursed, and swore, and tumbled all together."; "Miss Smiles, or he, or they both will come, or will not come, or will send a note, or will send somebody, or will not send anybody.") in randombreds the non-blue eye may be yellow, green or brown. Another form of odd eyes is found in white cats where one eye has a tapetum lucidum (green eye shine in the dark) and one eye lacks the tapetum (red eye shine). These different eye shines are seen in reflected headlights or flash photography. Bicolour cats with a high degree of white on the face may also have odd eyes. Heterochromía from birth is common in cats (blue/amber), horses (blue/brown) and some breeds of dog (blue/brown). It is uncommon in humans. In cats, there is no specific gene for "odd eyes," but it is associated with the white spotting gene and the white masking gene (epistatic white/dominant white). These genes prevent pigment production in the embryonic stage, which includes the pigment of the iris. If some melanocytes (pigment cells) remain active in the eye area, this is sufficient to make the eye green, amber, brown or yellow etc.

tivistic values of their nation (Cialdini et aI., 1999). ~ Chapter 4 SOCIAL PROOF READER'S REPORT 4.4 From a Former Racetrack Employee became aware of one method of faking social evidence to one's advantage Iwhile working at a racetrack. In order to lower the odds and make more money, some bettors are able to sway the public to bet on bad horses. Odds at a racetrack are based on where the money is being bet. The more money on a horse, the better the odds. Many people who play the horses have surprisingly little knowledge of racing or betting strategy. Thus, especially when they don't know much about the horses in a particular race, a lot of times they'll simply bet the favorite. Because tote boards display up-to-the-minute odds, the public can always tell who the current favorite is

.. Nende ilmsete liialduste pärast ei võetud Chambers'i üllitist tõsiselt (Hellström 1997). Brown'i maastikke kritiseeriti ka sotsiaalsest vaatevinklist. Nimelt tehti maastikuparkide rajamisel maatasa mitmeid külasid, mis aristokraatlikku pilku häirisid. Goldsmith, The deserted village (1770): " ...The man of wealth and pride Takes up a space that many poor supplied; Space for his lake, his parks's extended bounds, Space for his horses, equipage and hounds." IV Pitoreskne stiil 18. saj. teisel poolel hakkasid aiakujunduse ideaalid muutuma. Kasvas huvi mineviku, eksootika ja müstika vastu. Romantiline inimtüüp ei otsinud mitte selgust ja reegleid, vaid müstikat ja fantastikat. Tundlemine oli moes. Loodust jumaldati endise kirega, kuid huviorbiiti tuli hariliku kultuurmaastiku asemel metsik maastik kaljujärsakute, koskede ja rägastikega. only a few such things are so lucky as to exist in reality as well. Moriarty has being of that sort and can be referred to, even though--fortunately for England and the world--he lacks the property of existing. 2 With that otherwise unexplained distinction in hand, Meinong could deal handily with negative existentials in particular. Such a sentence says, of an entity that (of course) has being, that that entity lacks existence. Secretariat, Seabiscuit and Smarty Jones were horses that existed but lacked wings; Pegasus had wings but failed to exist. It happens. Less implausibly, Frege himself dealt with Apparent Reference to Nonexistents by rejecting J3: He posited abstract entities that he called "senses" and argued that a singular term is meaningful in virtue of having one of those over and above its referent--or in the case of a nonreferring singular term, instead of a referent. That is, since the singular term expresses

type of stuff almost has to be a cryptographer himself. You understand that these things come out in the form of syllables, and it is how you group your syllables that you make your words. There is no punctuation. "Now, without the Chinese ideograph to read from, it is most difficult to group these things together. That is, any two sounds grouped together to make a word may mean a variety of things. For instance, 'ba' may mean horses or fields, old women, or my hand, all depending on the ideographs with which it is written. On the so-called translator is forced the job of taking unrelated syllables and grouping them into what looks to him to be intelligible words, substituting then such of the Chinese ideographs necessary to pin it down, and then going ahead with the translation, which is a much more difficult job than simple translation." Hence the situation of Mrs. Dorothy Edgers. She had lived for thirty
