Hoe to write an argumentative essay?

the next sentence. An essay should end with a conclusion that briefly takes together what has been said before. If for and against arguments were given earlier, this is the place where the writer can give his own opinion. If the writer feels there are more arguments for than against the topic, it is advisable to give those before the final paragraph to lead the reader to a proper conclusion. If giving support to an opinion throughout the essay, the opinion should be restated here. There are a lot of linking expressions that are useful for connecting the separate sentences and paragraphs into a logical cohesive text and are considered absolutely necessary in a good essay. The following are some examples of these. To introduce points: Firstly/To begin with/In the first place; One point in favour of/against is/One advantage of ... is/One disadvantage of ... is, etc. To add more points: Secondly/Thirdly/What is more/Furthermore/both ... and/not only ..

Tolerance and Diversity essay

different nations have often been underlined by the representatives of the European Union. The same ideas have lately been spreading in the Baltic countries. So, what are the main dangers to the tolerance and friendly coexistence in these countries? There are several phenomena which counteract the successful coexistence and integration of people from different cultural backgrounds. First and foremost, both coexistence and integration require a high level of tolerance from all those involved. Here, the major obstacle is often xenophobia which may be caused by a wide range of factors. As a rule, xenophobia occurs in big, mostly mono-cultural societies, where strangers are kept at a distance just because they have not been seen around before. On the other hand, xenophobia can result from the hyper-liberal immigration policy in some modern countries. For example France and Sweden which have warmly welcomed a huge amount of immigrants form Asia and Africa during the recent decades

Surfing (esitluse tekst)

*Two major subdivisions within stand-up surfing are longboarding and shortboarding, reflecting differences in surfboard design -- particularly including surfboard length, and riding style. *It's important to observe the correct etiquette while out surfing, otherwise things will just descend in to total chaos. These are the most importand rules you have to follow. Probaly the most important word and rule in surfing. Respect for the land, the ocean and the people who grew up surfing here. You have to give respect and behave while visiting a spot, keep things friendly, earn some respect yourself *You will never know what may happen out there and its better if you have some friend with you. They can look over you and you over them. * Always know the water where you choose to surf. * Clint Eastwood say in one of his movies (A man has to know his limits).Do not overestimate yourself, waves can be deadly. *And dont forget to have fun, thats why you are out there.

He was the only one who survived. Waves alone, it disrupted the uninhabited island. There, he first had to maintain peace and to think clearly, to start. Crusoe bought the wrack everything what he need and what wasn't spoilt. They also had on the ship a dog and two cats. He had carried the cats to shore on the raft, and the dog had jumped out of the ship and swum to the shore whit him. At first Crusoe built the tent for himself but found that as a few days living here, that the tent was an unsuitable place. The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde

Oscar Wilde Oscar Wilde is one of the most iconic figures from late Victorian society. Enjoying a meteoric rise to the top of society, his wit, humour and intelligence shine through his plays and writings. Oscar Wilde was born on 16th October 1854 in Dublin, Ireland. His parents were well known and attracted a degree of gossip for their extravagant lifestyles. Oscar Wilde proved to be a student of great talent. He was awarded a scholarship to Trinity College Dublin. Here he studied the classics, in particular developing an interest in the Greek philosophers and the Hellenistic view of life. He also really cherished his youth, which probably was the inspiration for the book The picture of Dorian Gray. "To get back my youth I would do anything in the world, except take exercise, get up early or be respectable." - Oscar Wilde The picture of Dorian Gray This book talks about a young man called Dorian Gray, who doesn't age. Truancy in school – individual responsibility

Truancy in school individual responsibility Hello ladies and gentlemen, today I am here to talk to you about truancy in school and why is it an individual responsibility. Truancy in school is a very serious problem nowadays. Unfortunately many students have lost their motivation to study. According to the BBC 400,000 children were persistently absent from England's schools in the past year and missed about one month of school each. The effect that poor attendance at school can have on a child's education can be permanent and damaging but skipping should be child's own

Read the following description I am from Seattle, Washington. Seattle is a city in the United States. It is near the border of Canada in the northwest corner of the USA. I live in a town called Olympia which is on the Puget Sound. I live in a house in a street in the countryside. The street is called "Bear Street" and the house is old - more than 100 years old! I am an English teacher at a school in the center of the town. I like books and taking photographs. I usually have lunch at school. I usually go home by car. We have all kinds of food in Olympia. I like Italian food very much. Sometimes, I go to an Italian restaurant in Seattle. The restaurant is called "Luigi's". Italian food is great! Here are the rules for when to use "A, An or The": · a = indefinite article (not a specific object, one of a number of the same objects) with consonants She has a dog. England Sightseeing

Designated a World Heritage Site in 2006. The Cornwall and West Devon World Heritage Site areas are spread across 12 districts of Cornwall and West Devon, and there are many walks and visitor attractions to experience in each of them. By example Gwennap Pit, an open-air amphitheatre which may have originated from a hollow created by sunken mine workings; and King Edward Mine, the oldest complete mine site in Cornwall. Cornwall and West Devon was the centre of mining technology, and it was from here that mining technologies spread across the world. Canterbury Cathedral, St Augustine's Abbey and St Martin's Church in Kent Designated a World Heritage Site in 1988. Canterbury Cathedral was founded in AD597 (that's over 1,400 years ago!) and is the Mother Church of the Anglican Communion. It has a perpendicular nave, 12th-century Gothic choir, stunning stained glass windows that fill the church with colour and a Romanesque crypt.

The Future of Work or How Artificial Intelligence Will Affect Us in 20 years

The lump of work would get bigger. Its called the lump of labor fallacy. And today you hear the people talk about the lump of labor fallacy to think about the future of all types of work. There's no fixed lump of work out there to be divided up between people and machines. Yes, machines substitute for humans making the original lump of work smaller, but they also complement humans, and the lump of work gets bigger and changes. But here the mistake it right to think that technologigal progress makes the lump of work to be done bigger. But it's wrong to think that necessarily, humans will be placed to perform those tasks. As machines become more capable, it's likely that theyl take on the extra lump of work themselves. Machines perform tasks differently to humans. What humans are currently capable of doing dosen't represent any sort of summit in what machines might be capable of doing in the future.

A Modern Answer to the Commune

an apartment in Park Slope. "And I'd rather have a lot of people to share my day with." The impetus for the group home or collective they hope to form is less about finances -- though it is true that pooling resources yields better real estate -- and more about community building. Indeed, Ms. Berger and others seem to share the ideals of the old- fashioned communes of yore, except that their groups are tiny, urban-centric and linked to outside interests like fixing bikes or, here in New York City, membership in the Park Slope food co-op. And like communes, many collectives give themselves names: The House of Tiny Egos (a name that's decidedly more evocative than, say, Findhorn, that of the hoary Scottish commune) is a five-person collective in a century-old brick bungalow 1 in Bed-Stuy. Not only do they aim to remain of the world, they hope for a convenient

Although conditions are generally good, there are one or two problems. Firstly, in large classes, there is not much desk space. Secondly, the classrooms tend to be darl, especially in the winter months. Finally, during video lessons, some of us find it difficult to see screen properly. There are number of changes that could be made in order to improve the situation. To begin with, I would strongly suggest that the number of students per class kept to below ten. In this way... To sump up, while most of us are satisfied with the conditions, I feel that above improvements would make things even better. If these suggestions were carried out... Complaint Dear Sir I am writing to complain about the holiday apartment I rented from you on 15...

Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley Could you reproduce Silicon Valley elsewhere, or is there something unique about it? It wouldn't be surprising if it were hard to reproduce in other countries, because you couldn't reproduce it in most of the US either. What does it take to make a silicon valley even here? What it takes is the right people. If you could get the right ten thousand people to move from Silicon Valley to Buffalo, Buffalo would become Silicon Valley. That's a striking departure from the past. Up till a couple decades ago, geography was destiny for cities. All great cities were located on waterways, because cities made money by trade, and water was the only economical way to ship.

Outside this context this shade of meaning is not present. ADHERENT CONNOTATION (AC) - is evoked only to create a particular context. AC may be positive or negative. Negative adherent connotation 1. Grammatical negation results in words becoming negatively charged (e.g. "Science has not got a soul. Cannot help itself." science here becomes negative). 2. The same do certain intensifiers, such as: merely, only, too, too much, horribly, perfectly, so, etc. 5. Repetition of a word in a sentence makes the negative charge stronger. 6. The Count of Monte Cristo

far. When the Count realizes that it's his fault that Villefort's wife and son is dead, he really feels guilty. At this point the Count reveals to Villefort that he is Dantes. Villefort goes mad right after Dantes reveals himself; which is all the more incentive for him to feel bad. "Monte Cristo paled at the horrible sight. He realized that he had gone beyond the limits of rightful vengeance and could no longer say, "God is for me and with me."" (p. 403) We see here how bad the Count really does feel and that we're all human in the end and you can't hurt people forever until you start to feel bad. The Count of Monte Cristo is a great story that helps you to realize how far the reaches of vengeance can really go. When the Count is going around ruining people it seems like he is more of a machine than a person. It seems like he has no emotions and can't forgive the people who hurt him.

When you work on the phone all day as a customer service representative, the telephone is the one and only tool that will make or break your success. Following are the most basic ones, which should always be employed. 1. Use the four answering courtesies: · Greet the caller · State your organisation (or department) · Introduce yourself · Offer your help "Good afternoon, Accounts, Andrew Batt speaking. How may I help?" 2. Show enthusiasm when you answer. Help make the caller feel welcome A tired voice lacking in enthusiasm is very unappealing and reflects on the professionalism...

Irish Christmas

Christmas in Ireland lasts from Christmas Eve to the feast of the Epiphany on January 6, which is referred to as Little Christmas. Ireland's Christmas is more religious than a time of fun. Lighted candles are placed in windows on Christmas Eve, as a guide that Joseph and Mary might be looking for shelter. The candles are usually red in color, and decorated with sprigs of holly. Irish women bake a seed cake for each person in the house. They also make three puddings, one for each day of the Epiphany such as Christmas, New Year's Day and the Twelfth Night. After the Christmas evening meal, bread and milk are left out and the door unlatched as a symbol of hospitality. St Stephen's Day, the day after Christmas, is almost as important, with football matches and meetings going on. For children, the Wren Boys Procession is their big event. Boys go from door to door with a fake wren on a stick, singing, with violins, accordions, harmonicas and ...

At the end of the table read, they surprised me with a big birthday cake, flowers and balloons. It was a moment I'll never forget. That moment happened Feb. 19th, 2009. "The show aired in March of 2010 right after the Kids Choice Awards and we debuted to record numbers for the network. I remember it like it was yesterday. So, here we are, Feb. 2nd and it's almost three years later and we are showing our final episode, titled, `Victori-yes'. The cast and I have had so many incredible memories together and we are so touched by the outpouring of support from all of you. The cast and I really do wish we had a proper finale, but it wasn't to be. So, because we don't have one, I'm going to tell you what I think happens to every cast member. "Tori- Tori gets signed to a record deal and becomes a popstar. She
