"The Catcher in the Rye" ("Kuristik rukkis") Salinger - Book report/review

as I do in English, although the differences aren't that drastic. One of the differences is that I usually tell my parents about my problems because I know they can help me with everything. Did you like this character? Why/why not? I definitely like the character because he seems to be different than others, like a drop of ink in a glass of water. I don't like the character because of his bad habits like drinking and smoking, although I guess they add to his character. 6. Did you like the book? Would you recommend it to your classmates? Why/why not? I liked this book a lot because it's very thought provoking in many different aspects. The language that the book is written in is very simple and really connects with young people, even though the book is over 60 years old. The story and the characters can be easily familiarized with

Means of communication

.. News aren't always true, they are not objective or says just half true. Our world is very huge and sending a message from America to Asia a hundred years ago was nearly impossible or it took a lot of time. Nowadays you can send the message in a few seconds and it is very simple. The media makes the world much smaller particularly the TV and the Internet. When you turn on the TV or a computer you can see whole world like it would be in the next village. You can learn the culture and habits of other nationalities, you can see what they are doing right now. The world is also called `the global community village'. There are not only good things about media. Firstly there are always some information that are not true. We have to be careful about it but when you listen to media for a long time you can find some companies which are nearly always true. Secondly there is a danger of being influenced in the bad way (lot of pornography on the Internet, lot of action films in TV

Homereading - body language

make much sense unless the parents express it with both words and body language. Otherwise, the child may get the impression that it is only good for the parents that the child is put to bed early. It is important to remember that, although body language does give you an additional channel of communication, which sometimes contradicts the spoken word, it should be interpreted with care. For one thing, body language can be affected by particular habits of the speaker. Apart from individual differences, there are also differences between geographical regions, as well as between cultural groups. For example, in Greece, you nod your head for 'no', and shake your head for 'yes'. The human brain communicates to the body how it is to position itself. Body language is subconscious and is intended to create a balance between inner feelings and outer appearance.

Ways of keeping healthy Keeping healthy is not just avoiding being ill but it is a sense of genereal well-being, getting physical, emotional and social factors in balance. Stress is a part of most peoples' everyday life. Some stress is useful, some not. They stayed for three hundred years, and built villas, roads and towns. Many Roman remains can be visited in Britain today. The Romans finally abandoned Britain in AD 410 and a long period of invasion by Nordic peoples (from northern Germany and Scandinavia) started. The Angles, Saxons and Jutes began to settle from the sixth to the eighth centuries, and the Angles gave England its name. These invaders introduced a new culture to Britain, and even today British customs and habits are described as ´Anglo-Saxon`. Anglo-Saxon England was one of the most civilised countries in Europe, with organised systems of agriculture and trade. The Vikings came from Scandinavia in the tenth century; they settled in the north and made the town of York the capital of their kingdom. The last successful invasion of Britain was in 1066, when William the Conqueror defeated the English at the Battle of Hastings, and the Normans and the French settled in Britain over the next three centuries.

But Leopolda keeps track of Satan and knows his habits, minds he burrows in, deep spaces where he is hiding, she know as much about him as Marie grandma. Leopolda perhaps doesn't like Indians, she always says to Marie that the Dark One wants her most of all. Marie stands out for her. 9. Analyse the relationship between Marie and Sister Leopolda. Käesoleva uurimistöö põhiline väärtus seisneb selles, et lugemise vanusega muutumise trendid on sarnased kogu Eestis. Kuigi Tallinna Reaalkooli õpilaste seas leitud protsentuaalsed, arvulised väärtused ei pruugi kehtida teiste koolide õpilaste hulgas, on selge, et just lugemisharjumuste muutumise kohta tehtud üldiseid järeldusi saab laiendada kogu Eesti õpilaskonnale. 58 SUMMARY The topic of this research project is "Reading Habits among Pupils of Various Age Groups in Tallinn Secondary Science School". The problem is very acute as nowadays pupils tend to spend more time using the Internet which leaves less time for reading. The main purpose of this research is to find out the connections between pupils' age and reading habits. To make broader conclusions, not only books, but also Internet-based media, newspapers and other periodicals are considered.

It is a home-brewed sorghum beer that is rich in B vitamins and has a low alcohol content. Because of its nutritional value it is considered a type of food. Other South African dishes originated in the period of colonization. As settlers moved into mainland South Africa, the ingredients for their usual dishes were not available. This meant they had to adapt their eating habits to their new homes. The Cape Malays were considered the masters of seasoning. When the Malays arrived in the region, they spiced, curried and often sweetened variations of many European traditional dishes. Fish and shellfish might be grilled, fried, baked or curried. For these facts already, English has a great importance in the today’s world. As the United States of America is one of the leading countries of the world, American English has a certain authority as well. It is now an inescapable fact that America, through its worldwide influence and massive entertainment industry is the mighty power-house that drives the English language. Deskr.def-d on levinud nt kultuuriantropoloogias. Nt üks esimesi antropoloogilisi kultuuridefinitsioone pärineb 1871 Edward Burtnett Tylor Primitive Culture: Kultuur...on see keerukas tervik, mis sisaldab teadmisi, uskumusi, kunsti, moraali, seadusi, kombeid ja kõiki teisi võimeid ja harjumusi, mille inimene ühiskonna liikmena on omandanud. Culture ... is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, law, morals, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society. Whenever a regular behavior or habit of an individual or species is interpreted as a sign by some other individuals (conspecific or alter-specific) and is reacted upon through the release of yet other regular behaviors or habits, we have a case of semethic interactions. (Hoffmeyer 2008: 189) Hoffmeyeri järgi põhinevad semeetilised interaktsioonid organismide võimel ära tunda keskkonnaressursse ja näha ette tulevaid sündmusi (st kasutada märke). Mõnes ökosüsteemis määravad eri liikide vahelised ühted kogu koosluse näo ja meil on alust rääkida ökoloogilistest koodidest, mis on: 1) Avatud, s.t ühelgi liigil pole täit infot või kompetentsi ökoloogilise koodi

As a quantitative observation endlessly repeated from within a homogenized culture, this phrase refers to the men in such a culture who have to be homogenized Dagwoods in order to belong at all. It is in our I.Q. testing that we have produced the greatest flood of misbegottten standards. Unaware of our typographic cultural bias, our testers assume that uniform and continuous habits are a sign of intelligence, thus eliminating the ear man and the tactile man. C. P. Snow, reviewing a book of A. L. Rowse (The New York Times Book Review, December 24, 1961) on Appeasement and the road to Munich, describes the top level of British brains and experience in the 1930s. "Their I.Q.'s were much higher than usual among political bosses. Why were they such a disaster?" our official age begins. · There is good news and bad news. We can no longer think that the placenta can protect the prenate from anything bad going on in the mother's body, or that the mother's body can protect the prenate from bad things going on in her world. · Parents, too, can be a source of contamination and injury to the unborn baby as a consequence of their personal habits and lifestyle choices. · To a pioneering minority holding the ideal of conscious conception, parenting has always been seen as a spiritual process in which they wanted to participate fully and consciously. A handbook for many in this group has been the book by Jeannine and Frederick Baker, Conscious Conception: Elemental Journey Through the Labyrinth of Sexuality (Monroe, UT, Freestone Publishing or Berkeley, CA: North Atlantic Books, 1986). Stilistika materjalid

· Lexicology--finish-terminate (synonymic pairs) A survey of the development of stylistic studies: It is a relatively new branch in philology; yet, its roots go back as far as ancient Greek and Rome where the rhetoricians cultivated the art of clear and elegant use of language. 18th cent--emerged an individualistic-psychological view on style and stylistics. According to that, style bears the stamps of individual usage: every writer has a unique pattern of habits and abilities that form his style. Fr. Poet Buffon: "Style is the man himself." Late 19th, early 20th century--appeared a utilitarian approach to style remotely linked with ancient rhetoric. It became important to improve the style of a text and show the author how better express his thoughts. (Vallins, Lucas) There was also another tendency in that time--to regard style as a study of form separated from content. (Saintsbury, Bally, Marouseau, Aronstein, Deutchbein)

activities. Each of the lights, car miles, games, and other appliances was converted to a common unit of power consumption called kilowatt-hours. The spreadsheet was used to determine how many kilowatt-hours were used during each day, each week, and each year for each energy consumption activity. The spreadsheet converted their energy consumption to show them the amount of money it costs for each energy consumption activity. In the end, they were shocked to see how much money Jules' energy using habits cost compared to Les' habits. USES OF ENERGY The United States is a highly developed and industrialized society. We use a lot of energy - in our homes, in businesses, inindustry, and for traveling between all these different places. The industrial sector uses almost one-third of the total energy. The residential and commercial sectors combined use 39 percent of all energy. These two sectors include all 4

TANTSIJA FÜÜSILISE VIGASTUSE MÕJU ELUKUTSELE SOMAATILISTE TREENINGSÜSTEEMIDE NÄITEL

The issue persists and creates new questions: Who is concidered 21st century dancer? What is dance in its purest form, physical or metaphysical values? 42 Is it possible that injury can be taken as a pioneer for new cognition processes and new thinking? If previous theoretics have noticed the importance of inhibitation in habitudes, can injuries be taken as destroiers of old habits. Therefore perhaps they happen so that an individual could restructure. To understand self is to refer to yourself in regular activities. 43

Backpaking lifestyle

With a decline in identities based on logics of production and tradition, Shields (1992) suggests selves are instead increasingly fashioned and differentiated through aesthetic consumption practices. Distinctive consumption becomes a life project wherein ‘the particularity of the assemblage of goods, clothes, practices, experiences, appearance and bodily dispositions’ are designed together into a lifestyle (Featherstone, 1987, p. 59). Lifestyle practices such as habits of dressing, what to eat, how to spend leisure time and even ‘favoured milieux’ become ‘decisions not only about how to act but who to be’ (Giddens, 1991, p. 81). As increased consumer choice may afford a dizzying array of life options (Gergen, 1991), the stylising of a distinctive mode of living also promises the opportunity to anchor one’s self amidst the cacophony of liquid modernity (Bauman, 2000). Featherstone (1987) does

to accomplish goals of humanization. In order to effect change, the focus must not be just on individual change, but also on institutional change. Change will never come about if the unit of change on which one focuses is the individual rather than on the institution as an organization. What is being sought is not a mere cosmetic change but a change of basic orientation. Stephen Covey brings this out in a clear manner in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, when he states: If we want to make relatively minor changes in our lives [and institutions], we can focus on our attitudes and behaviors [our prejudices and discriminations]. But if we want to make significant, quantum change, we need to work on our basic paradigms. To try to change our attitudes and behaviors does very little good in the long run if we fail to examine the basic paradigms from which these attitudes and behaviors flow (p. 31).

The stray queen later became known as "Bubastis Georgina". Unfortunately her habits meant she was "quite unfit to live in a civilised house" and in spite of persevering with her, her adopter offered her to Stirling-Webb as a cattery cat. By then, Stirling-Webb was enthusiastic about producing colourpoint Persians (but emphatically against longhaired Siamese!). "Anna Karenina" kokkuvõte

Part 1, Chapters 1-6 The first line of the book is one of the most famous in literature: "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." The line leads into a household crisis between a wife and husband, Dolly and Stiva, but also forecasts the issues that will arise throughout the rest of the book, all of them having to do with personal relationships and family structures: especially those of Stiva and Dolly, Anna and Karenin, and Anna and Count Vronsky. Stiva's habits are described in detail. To avoid arguing with Dolly about an affair he had with another woman, Stiva tries to distract himself by plunging into his work. He reads a liberal newspaper and comes off as a bit of a rogue (Tolstoy himself was a conservative). Stiva follows the liberal tradition, which denounces religion and marriage as cheap institutions. When a widow drops by to ask Stiva's help with a petition she's submitting to the
