“ Government fails to serve up free school meals for all “

Home reading ( magazine article ) : 1. " Government fails to serve up free school meals for all " from http://www.timesonline.co.uk 2. The article is about Scottish government who has failed to achieve it's goal of extending free school meals to all children in the first three years of education. This healthy meal serving is now extended because of the tight public finances caused by the economic slump. There's mentioned that at the moment government can only offer a healthy lunch for 20% of the pupils in Scotland. 3. This topic is interesting because now I can compare my school lunch with Scottish meals. Here we have it for free until the end of the primary school. It's also interesting to read how are they handling with this economic crisis. 4. reluctance vastumeelsus, magnetiline takistus provision säte, lepingutingimus acute, akuutne, terav 5. Letter travelling description

Kolkata is a very big place. The streets of Kolkata are full, of the crowds of people. There is such great rush-of traffic that at first I felt quite confused. Kolkata is a city of fine streets. I liked the Chawranghee most of all. On one side it is lined by tall buildings and on the other by the maidan. The maidan is a great open park where large numbers of people assemble to spend their sweet evenings. In Kolkata there are many places worth-seeing. I saw the Government House, Fort William, the Museum, the Botanical Garden, the Zoo at Alipore, and the Birla Planetarium I had a very pleasant time in Kolkata. It is really a fine city in India. I am sure, my description of the city will tempt you to visit Calcutta very soon. My earnest regards for uncle and aunt with love. Yours ever, Name My dear Rashmi, I received your letter a week ago. I am sorry, I could not write to you earlier as I was but of station.

People are afraid of the unknown, it is natural. But it can only grow, if it gets encouragement, either from parents, who are also ingorant or school, who just do not teach children any better. And fighting intolerance requires Law. Intolerance can be fought with education. Tolerance can be teached at an early

A world government is both desirable and necessary. A world government is both desirable and necessary. What is there to gain from a world government? Are there any downsides to such world order? A lot of people believe that a world government is the only way in future. It would unite countries and people, eliminating differences. What would help to preserve peace in the world. Also a world government would help to rationalize recourses. As there would not be any duplicating, allowing much faster development of new technologies and faster production. In addition recourses would not pile up in one place because they would be diverted to places where the need is greatest. But there is a downside to a world government. Historically, this ceremony used to take place in the Autumn; but since 2012, it has been brought forward to May. This is the only regular time when the members of both Houses come together. During the ceremony, the Sovereign reads out the government's intended programme. The "Queen 's Speech" is a summary of the programme "his" or "her" government intends to implement in the next twelve months; but the speech is prepared and written by the Prime Minister's office, not by the Queen. The second major function of the sovereign is to sign new laws passed by Parliament. Satire in Lilliput

Even though Gulliver's urination intends to prevent a disaster, it also gives Gulliver the ability to control the Lilliputians in any way he likes. Swift uses this sequence of problems to show a personal issue in his life. Swift's urination scene parody's his own life giving him a satire within a satire. By pointing this out in the story, he mocks his critics. Swift further illustrates satire by comparing English government to Lilliput. In the early eighteenth century, the English government was under the Whig's political party. Swift represented himself as Gulliver as being a Tory, and the Lilliputians as being powerhungry Whigs. Their heels of their shoes identified these parties. In Lilliput the HighHeels represented the Tories and the LowHeels represented the Whigs. George I favoured the Whigs, so the Lilliputian emperor favoured the Low Heals. But the Prince of Whales favoured both parties, and thus the Lilliputian heir to the throne wore one HighHeel and one Low

Why did Russian civil war breake out in 1918

But why did it really breake out? There were three reasons why Civil War broke out in Russia in 1918.The first reason was that there was bound to be a challenge to the Bolsheviks, who had seized power by a surprise coup. After 1918, their political opponents tried to reverse it. The Bolsheviks had many enemies. One group who wanted to destroy the Bolsheviks were the Social Revolutionaries. At first, they had supported the November Revolution. Elections had been held in November 1917 for a new government, the Assembly in which the Bolsheviks had won 175 seats and the Social Revolutionaries 370 seats. However, when it met in 1918, Lenin used the Red Guards to close the Assembly, and killed anybody who objected. The Social Revolutionaries fought back by attacking the Bolshevik government. The Bolsheviks were also opposed by the Mensheviks, who had controlled the Provisional Government, and who they had toppled from control of the Soviets in September, and by the Tsarists, who wanted to

private consumption, and public sector (or government) spending. · Two advantages of dividing total consumption this way in theoretical macroeconomics are: 1. Private consumption is a central concern of welfare economics. The private investment and trade portions of the economy are ultimately directed (in mainstream economic models) to increases in long-term private consumption. If separated from endogenous private consumption, 2. Government consumption can be treated as exogenous. Different government spending levels can be considered within a meaningful macroeconomic framework. Income Approach This method measures GDP by adding incomes that firms pay households for the factors of production they hire- wages for labor, interest for capital, rent for land and profits for entrepreneurship. Monarch and Parliament got on quite well together. ✿ The Whigs, were the political 'descendants' of the parliamentarians - supported the Protestant values of hard work and thrift, were sympathetic to Dissenters, and believed in government by monarch and aristocracy together. ✿ The Tories, had a greater respect for the idea of the monarchy and the importance of the Anglican Church ✿ The two terms, Whig and Tory, had in fact first been used in the late 1670s ✿ At the beginning of the century, by agreement, the Scottish Parliament joined with the English and Welsh Parliament at Westminster in London. ✿ Scotland retained its own system of law

Pros and Cons of the Capital Punishment

groups. On the one hand, there are advocates of the death penalty, who argue that it deters crime, improves community by making them sure, that convicted criminals would never find their way out onto the streets to offend again and it is cheaper than keeping convicted criminals in high security prison for the rest of their natural lives. On the other hand, there are opponents of the death penalty claim that `capital punishment cheapens human's life and government on the same low moral level as criminals who have taken life.` personally, I strongly support this idea. I think, that the government must be smarter and invent some kind of punishment, that would satisfy the wishes of the families and friends of murder victims and at the same time, this punishment should not be a crime. From my point of view, death penalty is the same crime like a simple murder, but it is legal, because the part of murderer plays the government.

Skills needed today are more complex and depend on scientific and mathematical knowledge, and/or an ability to think about abstract concepts. Such understanding can only be taught in higher education institutions. The point of education is to allow opportunity. As opportunities change, so must our education systems. Also why do pay the university costs yourself is that you already have education free till the end of high school. So what do you want more from the Government? Government makes big spendings to education because they know that this is their country's future at stake. Even lunches till high school are free for everyone. Therefore there's not much reasons to complain. In conclusion I think it would definitely be a respectable decision from the Government if the universities are to be free. But the affects to the budget would be enormous. At the moment the Government's budget probably wouldn't handle it well.

Political parties in the US

Today, the United States has two major political parties. One is the Democratic party, which evolved out of Thomas Jefferson's party. The other is the Republican party, which was formed by people in the states of the North and West, such as Abraham Lincoln, who wanted the government to prevent the expansion of slavery into new states then being admitted to the union. Most Americans today consider the Democratic party the more liberal party. Democrats believe the federal government and the state governments should be active in providing social and economic programs for those who need them, such as the poor, the unemployed or students who need money to go to college. Republicans are not necessarily opposed to such programs. They believe, however, that many social programs are too costly to the taxpayers and that when taxes are raised to pay for such programs, everyone is hurt. They often accuse

Canada topic

Elizabeth II, in reality the governor-general acts only on the advice of the Canadian prime minister. Canada is an independent, self-governing nation. However, Canadians recognize Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain as Queen of Canada. The position symbolizes the country's strong ties to Great Britain, which ruled Canada completely until 1867. Canada and the United States have had a relationship of cooperation and friendship since the 1800's. In Canada a federal form of government is combined with a cabinet system. As a federation, Canada is made up of ten provinces and three territories. Its national problems are resolved through its central government in Ottawa. Each province has its own government. Should the monarchy be abolished

Should The Monarchy Be Abolished Monarchy is one of the oldest forms of government, which echoes in the leadership of tribal chiefs. It is a form of government in which an individual has the actual or nominal supreme power, who is the head of state, often for life or until abdication. Since 1800, most of the world's monarchies have been abolished, and most of the nations that retain monarchs are constitutional monarchies. The most recent nation to abolish its monarchy was Nepal, which became a republic in this year, on May 28. Currently 44 nations in the world have monarchs as heads of state, 16 of which are

Kasutatud kirjandus: · Wilson, James Q. (1998). American government : institutions and policies . Report: The Free Rider Problem

The free rider issue has become one of the most serious economic issues today. The free rider is a lazy type person who wants the benefits that others bring in without having to do the work. The free rider typically takes advantage of a public good. Living in a civilized society presents many opportunities for free riding, which we have yet to find a way to control. Economists regard the possibility for free riding as a problem for the free market, which usually leads to government intervention. Government intervention is not generally needed in a free market society but in this case if there were no government intervention this problem would not find a solution. The free-rider issue is often seen as a serious problem because of the assumption that a free rider's best self-interest is that they interact with others by force and fraud. If they can get away with the fraud and begin to gain the benefits of others they have reached their first goal

law. Descriptive law – describes the way people or natural phenomena behave, e. g. law of gravity Prescriptive law – prescribe how people ought to behave e.g. speed limits In all societies relations between people are regulated by prescriptive law; customs (informal rules of social and moral behaviour); rules we accept if we belong to a particular institution (religion, organization); laws imposed on people by a government Penalties for breaking the rules are different. For not following the customs there may not be a punishment, or a person may be criticized by the society; rules of a social institution tend to carry precise penalties but they are not enforceable by any political authority; however governments use a system of courts backed by the power of the police to enforce the laws they have made. The relations between people are regulated by a combination of all these rules.
