"Splendid isolation" Splendid Isolation was the foreign policy pursued by Britain during the late 19th century. The term was actually coined by a Canadian M.P. to praise Britain's lack of involvement in European affairs. It basically means that Great Britain was isolated from the rest of Europe: they weren't even connected by land and they stayed away from the affairs of European countries. They didn't want to ruin the situation that they had: during the late 19th century, Britain's primary goal in foreign policy was to maintain the balance of power in Europe and to intervene should that balance be upset. Its secondary goal was to protect its overseas interest in the colonies and dominions, as free trade was what kept the Empire alive. Estonian environment was significantly polluted by Soviet army and it takes decades to eliminate this. After Estonia regained its independence, Estonia has moved towards a liberal and free market economy. Different enterprises and various funds have financed large investments to address enviromental problems. The main object of environmental protection is to provide everybody wtih a healthy environment and natural reources without causing damage to nature. The other goal of protection is to preserve biodiversity. Estonian National Enviromental Strategy has made many principles to protect environment. The first one means that we have to think not only about ourselves, but also about future generation, because they want to live in clean enviroment.
