Bourne Ameerika Psühholoogide Assotsiatsioon moodustas 1993. aastal töögrupi (The Task Force on Promotion and Dissemination of Psychological Procedures, edaspidi töögrupp), mille ülesandeks sai teaduslikult tõestatud efektiivsusega teraapiameetodite defineerimine ning selle teadmise levitamine.
