equal amount of people. Somebody who wants to become a candidate must decleare him/herself there. On polling day each voter is given a ballot paper with the candidate names on it and they make a cross next to the person they vote for. The candidate with the most votes at the end of polling day becomes and MP for that constituency. Formal arrangement Government decides when to hold an election, and the law says that an election must take place in every five years, in reality it's a bit shorter time. After the date has been set, people who want to become candidates in some constituency must deposit 500 pounds with the Returning Officer. The money is gotten back if they get 5% of votes or more. Local associations pay the money for their candidates, but to become a candidate doesn't mean that you have to belong to a party. Eligible voting age is 18 and the person has to be on the electorial register. Nobody is obliged to vote. Polling day

Automaatika referaat (eng)

Page and Peterson (1995) referred to these elements as "proxes" or approximations for underlying "trins" (i.e., intrinsic characteristics) of writing. It is the observable components that automated essay scoring engines, identify, computationally, and subsequently use to compute essay scores. AES statistical models are developed by weighting the various observable components as they relate to intrinsic characteristics of writing. For example, a model in the PEG system, might be formed by taking five intrinsic characteristics of writing (content, creativity, style, mechanics, and organization) and linking proxes. An example of a simple prox is essay length. The empirical evidence suggests that the longer an essay is, the more highly valued it is by a rater. This could be because the writer provides additional details which improves the essay's standing in the eyes of the grader. However, this relationship is not linear, but logarithmic.More

Twenty-one EU countries are members of NATO. It has developed a role in justice and home affairs, including the abolition of passport control between many member states under the Schengen Agreement. Important institutions and bodies of the EU include the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Council, the European Court of Justice and the European Central Bank. EU citizens elect the Parliament every five years. In 1973 the European Communities enlarged to include Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Norway had negotiated to join at the same time but a referendum rejected membership and so it remained outside. The first direct, democratic elections of members of the European Parliament were held in 1979. Greece, Spain and Portugal joined in the 1980s. The Schengen Agreement in 1985 created largely open borders without passport controls between most member states.

Fricatives may be voiced (vocal cords vibrating during the articulation of the fricative) or voiceless (vocal cords not vibrating during the articulation of the fricative). Of the nine fricative sounds in English, four are voiced (meaning that the vocal cords vibrate while producing the sound) and five are unvoiced (meaning that the vocal cords do not vibrate while producing the sound). Voiced and unvoiced sounds usually occur in pairs, with the major difference between the sounds in the pair being the use of the vocal cords or not. There are three major points that beginner ESL/ELL students should understand about fricative sounds: To produce fricatives, air travels smoothly through a small, constricted opening in the vocal

making it into a largely elected chamber : but the proposal does not terribly interest the British public, and this change is unlikely to happen in the near future. The House of Commons The House of Commons is the main House of the British Parliament in terms of legislative power. It is a chamber composed of 650 members (Members of Parliament or MPs ) elected by universal suffrage. The life of a Parliament is five years. According to an ancient tradition, MPs are elected by universal suffrage under a system of relative majority, in one round of voting. This means that the candidate with the most votes in an election is elected, whether or not he or she has an absolute majority of votes. This system favors the major political parties, and stable governments - at the expense of smaller parties. Elected Members of Parliament do not have a deputy, so in the event of the death,

Oliver did not mind this, but soon after he arrived, the state decided to implement a plan that would save money by feeding the people very little. After a time on this diet, the boys at the table chose Oliver to go ask the head cook for more gruel. Oliver did this, and was taken away. A flyer was then posted that said the state would give five pounds for someone to take young Oliver off their hands. Chapter3: The board locked up Oliver in what he called the `dark room' all day until someone would take him as an apprentice. After several days of solitary confinement, several beatings, and being made an example of at mealtime, Oliver thought he would do just about anything to leave the workhouse. But the new version—a four-character code with a transposition superencipherment—was stoutly resisting the best efforts of the Navy's most skilled cryptanalysts, and Rochefort was urged to concentrate on it. The other major system, the main fleet cryptographic system, the most widely used, comprised a code with five digit code- numbers to which were added a key of other numbers to complicate the system. The Navy called it the "five numeral system," or, more formally, JN25b—the JN for "Japanese Navy," the 25 an identifying number, the b for the second (and current) edition. Advantages and disadvantages of television

It is said that only three generations have grown up with television, but they managed to forget how to spend their free time without television. Its role is increasing not because it is an entertainer or informant, but because of the grip it has on many people. It is called a "living room monster" or "one-eyed monster." It is established that the biggest viewers are pensioners and housewives. The latter watch TV while their husbands are at work. In total they spend five hours daily sitting before the "boxes." Children watch commercials, horror films or films of violence. TV prevents children from creating their abilities. They get accustomed to TV to such an extent that they watch it all the time. To force their children away from their favourite evening programmes to their homework has eventually become the main problem of the parents of different countries. Moreover, TV is damaging for health. It has bad effect on the eyes, particularly of children

Iirimaa

Ireland Ireland (Irish: Éire, Irish pronunciation:) is a country in north-western Europe. The modern sovereign state occupies about five-sixths of the island of Ireland, which was first partitioned on 3 May 1921. It is bordered by Northern Ireland--part of the United Kingdom--to the north, by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Irish Sea to the east and the Celtic Sea and St George's Channel to the South and South-East. The legal name of the state is simply "Ireland", but its legal description the Republic of Ireland is sometimes used to differentiate the state from the island. On 29 December 1937 Ireland became the successor-state to the Irish Free State, itself established on 6 December 1922. Ireland was one of the poorest countries in Western Europe and had high emigration. The protectionist economy was opened in the late 1950s and Ireland joined the European Communities (now the European Un...

1600s. They brought back word that the land was '' of very little use ''. First people in Australia were the ancestors of the current Aborigenes, who arrived from present-day Southeast Asia over 40,000 years ago. Most of these people were hunter-gatherers, with their own oral culture and spiritual values. They had a great respect of the land and a belief in the Dreamtime. As the population grew and new areas were explored, five largely self-governing Crown Colonies were established over the course of the 19th century. On the 1 January 1901, the colonies became states linked by one federal government the Commonwealth of Australia. Settlers came from Britain and Ireland, and the people of Australia are still mainly of British or Irish origin, with a culture and outlook similar to that of the United Kingdom and the United States

Saturn

many findings of Saturn's composition. The planet has an internal heat source like Jupiter and radiates about twice as much energy as it receives from the Sun. As suspected, Saturn must have internal shells of liquid and metallic hydrogen, small amounts of helium, ammonia, water, and perhaps a small rocky core. A magnetic field was also discovered around Saturn, larger than the Earth's, but smaller than that of Jupiter. It is five times as weak as predicted by theory. The axis of this magnetic field is aligned parallel to the planet's rotation axis, contrary to thecircumstances in both Jupiter and Earth. The boundary of the magnetic field varies due to changes in the pressure of the solar wind on the sunward side,as was found in the case of Jupiter. The atmosphere of Saturn has weak bonds and there is a high haze, perhaps composed of crystals of ammonia ice, above the clouds. Apparent high-speed jet

Word order

We need no education. We do not need any education. Word Order in General Questions To form a general question (i.e. a question requiring a yes/no answer), just bring the auxiliary or modal verb in front of the subject. All the other parts of the sentence will remain in the same place: Will you marry me, darling? Are you happy, darling? Was it a lovely day? Would you like a cup of coffee? Could you read fluently when you were five? May I go now? Use the first auxiliary, if there is more than one: Can I come and see you at 5 or will you still be working? 7 Your eyes are red. Have you been crying? Have you ever been to Italy? If there is no modal verb or auxiliary verb in the sentence (Present and Past Simple), use do/does/did in front of the subject. Note that the main verb will then be used in its original form:

After the ceremony the members of the family signed the register. The guests then went to the bride's home for the banquet. The bride cut the cake and gave pieces of it to single girls to put under their pillows. When the guests began to dance, the bride and her mother went to the bridal chamber where she took off her wedding clothes and changed into her nightgown. The bride and groom spent their honeymoon in her parents' house. They were expected to stay in the bedroom for five days or more. Creole Customs Creole customs can be divided into two kinds: religious and non-religious. Religious customs focus on holidays: All Saints Day, Mardi gras and Easter, for example. On All Saints Day Creoles bring flowers made of white, black, or purple tissue paper to place on graves in the cemetery. Molekulaar- ja rakubioloogia konspekt

(TBP) sõltuv ja TBP sõltumatu. TATA boxbinding protein TBP interacts with the minor groove in DNA, bending the helix considerably. Niipea kui TBP on seotud TATA-boxile saavad teised TF-id ja PolII järjest seonduda. TFIIB sidumisele järgnevalt toimub preformeeritud tetrameerse TFIIF ja RNAPolII sidumine. In bacteria, a domain of prokaryotes, transcription begins with the binding of RNA polymerase to the promoter in DNA. RNA polymerase is a core enzyme consisting of five subunits: 2 subunits, 1 subunit, 1 ' subunit, and 1 subunit. At the start of initiation, the core enzyme is associated with a sigma factor (number 70) that aids in finding the appropriate -35 and -10 base pairs downstream of promoter sequences. Eukaryotic RNA polymerase does not directly recognize the core promoter sequences. The most common type of core promoter in eukaryotes is a short DNA sequence known as a TATA box. The

The Norman Conquest

Henry I (1100 - 1135) Henry I was an ambitious and unscrupulous politician. Early in his reign, he set out to convince his subjects that he would not be as ruthless as his brother had been. He proved himself an effective king. He maintained good order and kept his barons in check. In 1101, Duke Robert of Normandy invaded England to claim the throne as the eldest of William the Conqueror's sons. Henry made terms with him, and Robert renounced his claim in return for a pension. Five years later, Henry invaded Normandy, and captured Robert at the Battle of Tinchebrai. Normandy and England were reunited under one ruler. Henry had two legitimate children, William and Matilda (also called Maud). William was drowned in 1120 while crossing from Normandy to England in a vessel called the White Ship. Matilda was married at the age of 11 to the Holy Roman Emperor Henry V. Henry V died in 1125. In 1127, the Empress Matilda, for whom Henry I was struggling to win recognition as

Britain started sending its convicts to the place now called Sydney, and they established the colony of New South Wales. This day is celebrated as Australia's national day, Australia day. Most of the people there are of British origin, with a culture and outlook similar to the UK and USA. In 1901, five colonies became states linked by one federal government the Commonwealth of Australia. English is the official language, and is spoken and written in a distinct variety known as Australian English. It is believed that there used to be around 200-300 Australian Aboriginal languages, when Europeans first came to the country. Now there are about 70, with all but 20 being endangered. GERMAN CIVIL CODE German Civil Code, German Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch, the body of codified private law that went into effect in the German empire in 1900. Though it has been modified, it remains in effect. The first is general, covering concepts of personal rights and legal personality. The subjects of the other four parts are: obligations, including concepts of sale and contract; things, including immovable and movable property; domestic relations; and succession. Symbols: Australia had the British flag as their official flag until 1901, when the Commonwealth of Australia was formed. Over 30 000 entries attracted the official competition. Five of them, which contained almost identical designs, were placed equally first. The Australian flag symbolises Australia's historical links with Britain, because it has British flag on it, and Australia's location in the southern hemisphere, because it has stars of the Southern Cross on it. The large seven-pointed star represents the six original states and the territories of Commonwealth. There is also the Indigenous Australian flag, which represents the Aboriginal Australians
