English Parliament and Elections

Describe the British Parliament Works in a large building called the Palace of Westminster aka The Houses of Parliament. There are offices, committee rooms, restaurants, bars, libraries and even some places of residence. Two large rooms: The House of Lords meet in one and the House of Commons in the other. The British Parliament is divided into two houses, but the House of Commons is obviously more important and only they are considered to be the MPs. In the House of Commons there are just two rows of benches facing each other. On the left sit the members of the governing party and on the right sit the opposition. The Speaker sits between them and controls the action

Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit Character Sketch

Louie considered church as her family more than her own family. “My mother stood up and said she believed this was right: that women had specific circumstances for their ministry, that the Sunday School was one of them, the Sisterhood another, but the message belonged to the men.” She believed that praying could solve all the problems and people like her were meant to be separated from others. She did not have many friends because people did not understand her, not even Jeanette. But Jeanette looked up to her because she had had always an answer, knowledge why did things happen. Louie saw the world in two categories: friends and enemies. “She had never heard of mixed feelings.” Devils were daily talking point and she could find them anywhere. Sexuality was one of taboos for her. For example when Mrs Rothwell was drowning and Fred had saved her, all Louie could think about was Mrs Rothwell’s underslip that was showing. Her favourite book besides the

were only black people. Most of them live near coasts as the climate there is more fertile and human-friendly. Still there are people who like to live in the country, as there is much land and peace. However, because schools are thousands of kilometers away, children have to learn using special programs on the TV and radio. People living in big cities do not all use cars for moving. Getting to work with a bicycle or with even a sailing boat is not strange in Australia. Aborigines are described in the History topic History Aborigines Anthropologists say that the Aborigines were the first humans in the world. Even the word "aboriginal" means "the first" or "earliest known". It is confirmed that people lived in Australia about 40000 years ago. At that time, which is called the last great Ice Age, Australia was joined with New Guinea. Because sea passages were narrower between the Java and Borneo islands, the first

For many people, money is the most important thing in the world

Money is for them the most important thing in the world. Somehow money is important for all of us. We need it for everything: to buy food, clothes and other bare necessities. Also we buy other things and services that are less necessity, but we just want to buy them. Money is resource for buying things, is it also a purpose? Why are we studying? Because we want to get a good job, it means for one thing that we want to get big salary. We attempt to make career to get even bigger salary, even more money. We spend huge part of our life for earning money. It looks like this is the meaning of life. Fortunately there is also other things in the life, beside material values. Joy, friends, love we can not buy such things. It is good, otherwise we would only gather money. I believe ingenously that mental values are much more important than material values. But other story is, how to use this knowledge. For example I would like to be a millionaire. I can not say that

Equality Equality is a very important subject in todays world. Even though people of all races, social statuses and of both sexes have more equal rights in just about everything today, than they have had throughout history, there are still many places in the world and lots of topics, where equality is still a big problem. The point of equality, is for everyone to have the same opportunities. In a society with perfect equality, everyone would be able to do what they want, no matter where they are from, how

Benefits and drawbacks about Estonia

Moreover, Estonian neighbours are Russia and Latvia. Estonia is accessible, both from a logistical and social point of view - Tallinn is within 3 hours flight from major European capitals and the power distance is very low. In the west, the coast of Estonia is washed by the Baltic Sea. It is a land of great natural beauty with a long and varied history and rich culture. That's their nature especially concerning national symbols such as their music or their language. Even if Estonia is tiny, it still offers a breathtaking amount of nature. It is safe or safer than most places. It offers beautiful cities and beautiful people. It lacks pollution and traffic jams. There is water everywhere. It has four seasons. Dark days in the winter and white nights in the summer and it is wonderful. Many countries have gradually climate , when all time sun is shining and it rains one time in 1 month. In my opinion, all seasons have own benefits

The four engine plane can carry up to 181 passengers and cruise at 600 mph for 5280 miles on a full tank. This has made continetial travelling extremely comfortable, as voyages that formerly took a couple of weeks can now be passed with only 1 day or even less. The first jet flight took off from New York and landed in Paris, soon after that there was a connection between Los Angeles and New York. I can only assume that the tickets had to cost a fortune in the beginning, but the time spared was and is still worth it, as the plane tickets do not even cost so much nowadays, it is perhaps the cheapest and the fastest way to travel. The secound reason why i thought that a plane ment for passengers is the greatest invention is

Film review - Billy Elliot

She wants the best dance career for him but this means it has to be considered with Billys parents. Due to the reason Billy has no mother and his father is really oldfashioned, this is the point where it gets difficult. Billys life is about to fall apart again. All the actors of this movie are extraordinarily talented and I got really carried away by this story. Billy was a tough kid and managed to convince his father to trust him and Ms Wilkinson about ballet. They softened even his fathers heart that seemed pretty unconvinceable at the first place. Even though I knew it was just a movie I found myself hoping it's all going to be fine and Billy will find a place to belong. Billys grandmother (Jean Heywood), who he was supposed to taka care of, and his dad Jackie (Gary Lewis) played their parts really touchingly and caused all kinds of different emotions. These images of ballet performed by Billy are some still stuck in my mind.

Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development in Estonia

We are all a part of the environment that surrounds us. Unfortunately, people do not always know how to take care of the things that are vital to our survivor but what we take for granted such as water, air and forests products. However, things have improved in recent years. What has been done to improve the environment in Estonia? People today are too lazy to think or to do something to protect the environment. They dump their waste into forests and even rivers which causes air and water pollution. Fortunately, people have come up with different organisations and events to help clean our envrionment. An annual event such as ,,Teeme ära!" motivates people to go out, spend time with friends and family and have fun while cleaning up the trash. This event first took place in 2008 and is now one of the biggest worldwide environmental events. Estonian Commission on Sustainable Development is one of the organisations that is

mainland. They suited their appearance more comfortable for the isolated island and learned how to survive in the wet climate and rather heavy air. The first inhabitants the Iberians also had to change in order to survive. They had to renew their menu from different kinds of plants and animals to those special ones found in the woods of England. Another important change was connected with moving around. An island has water surrounding it, so temporarily changing homes is not possible even if the northern part is too cold to live and the southern too warm. The inhabitants were cut off from any tribes that could support them and therefore had to survive on their own. As for more, soon invaders began to change the native population. The Celts, the Romans, the Vikings, then the Normandians all wanted to live somewhere, gain power and finally, settle down. Since they were not the first ones to live in England, it

3 Energy Dividends You Can Still Trust

Phillips 66 may not be completely immune from energy prices, but it's structurally much less affected than the majority of the industry. The company's refining segment benefits when domestic crude prices are down relative to Brent, and natural gas is a major feedstock for its chemicals business. In other words, cheap oil and natural gas mean lower input costs. That's good for the bottom line. The risk is in its midstream segment, where commodity exposure has seen profits fall by 75%. But even with that hit, the company's earnings are down barely 1% for the year. When adjusted for gains from a business that was sold off last year, profits are actually up this year. Phillips 66's 2.5% dividend is more than just trustworthy. It's far more likely to be increased than get cut. Matt DiLallo ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) continues to make it clear to investors that its dividend remains trustworthy. In fact, CFO Jeff Sheets recently said: Our top priority is the dividend

"What makes a good movie?"

When the movie is based on something else, the actors have to be picked with great precision because the viewers already have their visions of the characters and the director has to work hard to get the actors as similar to the characters in the original story as he can. When the characters have been selected and the movie is already being shot it needs to have some great special effects. Some movies have been successful even without any special effects, but nowadays people expect to see special effects in every movie. Special effects are now mostly made with the help of computers and the level of the effects depends on the skill of the people doing them and the level of their equipment. When all three are good and people have put much effort in them, the movie will probably be great unless someone messes things up very badly. But even when one of

Essay about Chinese language taking over English

In addition, China will presumably be the largest manufacturer soon. However, he questions whether Chinese language grows at the same pace as its economy. Graddol's teaching in Hong Kong starts with a lecture called "World Englishes". He notes that he wrote his book "The Future of English" in 1997, same year when China got Hong Kong back from Britain. Graddol reminds the students, how many things wasn't happened then: euro was not put in use, even Windows 98 was not ready. He had been in Hong Kong before that, actually, making a TV-programme about global English for BBC, which showed that Putonghua, the native language, had become more important. Nevertheless, that programme was never completed, because no one thought it was interesting enough. Then Graddol writes about importance of language and how it should be assessed. He discusses whether it should be the number of speakers, their social status or even wealth and whether the

''How much does life weigh?''

Many are convinced that a human body has an immortal part - a soul. With knowing how few it actually weights, we can only assume what we have in these grams and whether it is anything worth at all. First of all, what do we claim to be a soul? It is our conscience with no form or location. It is the energy that is a part of the whole universe. In consideration of this, every human being has their own soul. This is what makes us all different and unique. Because of this, how can we even question the weight of our lives, when it seems to be completely different for everyone? Well, let's think about the moment of death. It is the exact moment, where our energy leaves our bodies. It has been scientifically proven that at this moment, every human being loses weight - 21 grams on average. Then comes the question that cannot be proven whether this loss is our souls or not. The movie ''21 grams'' brings up a subject that everything we are weights only 21 grams

Online vs. traditional classes

It is extremely important for most students to have a face to face interaction with their teacher. The study materials are generally more understandable and better acquired when explained orally by the teacher. This also gives the students the opportunity to immediately ask the teacher for clarification or additional information on a certain topic. Thus, the student will have a better understanding of the subject at hand as well as develop their social skills. In conclusion, even though there are several pros and cons to both traditional and online classes, the classical way of learning outweigh online classes. When in search of a good education, attending a regular class is more advantageous by being the base of discipline, reliability and enhanced social skills. Although online classes can be a good fit for some people, the majority will still benefit more by learning in a classroom.

Pure Competition

Marginal Revenue (MR) = Change in Total Revenue from selling ONE additional unit of output. Same as price. - MR = TR from selling 1 more unit of output = price The reason MR=D=AR=P is because in a purely competitive firm the price carries over from the industry and thus that equals the demand. At this demand each additional output increases by the same degree and the average revenue at any point is the same price. Even with changes in the marketplace, the line may move vertically but the values will always be equal Price line is the same as the average revenue or marginal revenue since the price is fixed Profit Maximization in the Short-run: TR/TC Approach · Firm = price taker firms can only adjust output to maximize profit · Short-run = fixed plant firms can only adjust amount of variable resource such as labor and materials.

After all, these songs have been handed down for generations. What if the employers decide to introduce new working practices? After all, things can't remain the same for ever. The films we see on TV don't go that far. At least there's some censorship. But at least it's culture free. With Esperanto as the world language, no country would be accused of exporting both its language and its culture. The Coca-Cola bottle, called the "contour bottle" within the company, was created by bottle designer Earl.R.Dean. In 1915, the Coca-Cola Company launched a competition among its bottle suppliers to create a new bottle for their beverage that would distinguish it from other beverage bottles, "a bottle which a person could recognize even if they felt it in the dark, and so shaped that, even if broken, a person could tell at a glance what it was." At first, Dean's prototype never made it to production, because its middle diameter was larger than its base, making it unstable on conveyor belts. Dean resolved this issue by decreasing the bottle's middle diameter. Although the ingredients of Coca-Cola are listed on the side of the bottle or a can, the exact formula of Coca-Cola's natural flavorings is a trade secret

Gay rights

Gay rights According to an opinion widely held, homosexuality is said to be freer today than ever before. It is present and visible everywhere: in the street, in the newspapers, on television, at the movies. It is even supposedly completely accepted, judging by the recent legislative advances made in many countries for the recognition of same sex couples. Certainly, some work remains necessary in order to eradicate the last vestiges of discrimination. But with changing public opinion, it will only be, according to some people, a matter of time, the time needed for a movement begun many decades earlier to achieve its goals. To tell the truth, the 20th century has undoubtedly been the most violently homophobic

Manners that disrespect or hurt others, like being mean or bullying, or manners that break social rules, like lying or stealing, should not be tolerated. Tolerance is about accepting people for who they are -- not about accepting bad behavior. Tolerance also means treating others the way you would like to be treated. Nobody wants to be mocked or even be a victim of physical violence. In reality, we have no idea how much pain our small insignificant words can cause. We may think we are strong, but we fought inconsiderate of the fact, that not all are as strong as us. A person, who has sustained constant mocking in matters, which he might not be the one to blame, might be smiling on the outside, but going through hell on the inside. And hell is definitely not the place we would like to find ourselves.

MARGARET THACHER

WHAT IT TAKE FOR MARGARET THATCHER TO BECOME THE PRIME MINISTER It is a rather big achievement for a woman to become the prime minister. Back these days it was even inadmissible to believe in it. She was the only woman in the Parlament at that time. Her father was a pole model and inspiration for her ever since she was a young girl. When she saw her father giving powerful and confident speeches, it motivated her to become as looked up as her father was as a political figure. What gave her a push into politics was wish to make a change in the world, Not to become someone, but to change something that would matter. She was wise and clever enough to do so.

Happiness

not. Some of us are rich and wealthy, some of us are not. Usually it is so that people who cannot afford everything and who have suffered more in life are living in reality with both feet on the ground. I admire them due to the fact that sometimes I get 10 feet off the ground and I do not want to come down. But I am bothered by those who can only complain, because then they miss the bright side of life. They will not even notice when something great is happening in their life. I am saying that it is possible for every one of us to find happiness in this world. The main thing is to put things into perspective, try to find some positive out of the negative because without bad things there would not be good ones either. For example, when I cannot decide in some circumstances whether to do something or not, then the main thought which occurs to my mind is "We only live once, use every

Cars enslave us rather than liberate us

It can be said that the material side of the car sustenance is difficult. A person must have a stable income to afford a car. Moreover, it is expensive to get a driver's license. It can be said that owning a car is an expensive pleasure. Secondly, driving a car can be compared to addiction as Matthew Perry once said:" I think we need to educate doctors about our addiction." Initially, people may not notice it, but over time it becomes clear that people cannot pass even the smaller distances without car. For instance, there are people who drive to the gym to do a workout there even if the distance is small. Nonetheless, it is good to have a car if it is necessary to save time. Thirdly, due to technical development, people always have a need to follow latest trends. There is always a demand for something new and better. New solutions involve situations, where the drivers first car purchase is also not the last. In turn,

Should a mosque be built in Tallinn?

Namely, should the construction of a mosque in Tallinn be permitted? Estonians often like to pride themselves for being more tolerant and open-minded than those from other post-soviet nations. This sort of a progressive mindset, however, rarely extends to the principles of religious freedom. But why? Why are so many people opposed to something that in its core is just another place of worship much-like any other? After all, the construction of the mosque wouldn't even be funded by tax-payers. In addition, most of us don't oppose the building of churches, even though Estonia is currently the 3rd least religious country on the planet. Many people fear that the building of a mosque would open a door for Islamic radicalization in Estonia. I for one, find that very hard to believe since the main cause of radicalization is not religion, but the feeling of exclusion. The feeling of not being wanted within society

Edward the Confessor & Westminster Abbey

It is said that Edward blamed her for his miserable and lonely childhood. For the first eleven years of Edward's reign the real ruler of England was Godwin, Earl of Wessex. In 1045, he married Godwin's only daughter, Edith. Godwin was the most important nobleman in England. They had no children as Edward had taken a vow of celibacy. Even this marriage couldn't prevent a breach between Godwin and Edward in 1049. A number on Normans were killed in a scrap in Dover and Kent in 1051. Edward still had influential friends in Normandy and he wanted the people of Dover punhised for this. Edward asked Earl Godwin to be the punisher. After saying no to king he raised an army against Edward instead. The other two senior noblemen, the earls of Mercia and Northumbria, remained loyal to Edward. Later Edward

Gothic story

Home alone Ella was left all alone in the mansion. She hated that but since she was only seventeen her opinion was often unheard. Nobody cared that she hadn't even wanted to move there. A big house with three storeys and an attic is usually the place where all scary movies take place and she knew that. Ella was feeling terrified. She was on the ground floor, in the living room. It wasn't exactly the best place to be in, since the walls of the room were covered with old paintings of men with harrowing looks in their eyes, eyes that seemed to be moving. But she couldn't move. The thought of being anywhere, closer to the attic made her faint.

varies greatly. Often governments offer loans and financial support to help students pay these fees. However, more and more people want to go to university, putting student funding systems under pressure. So should Governments charge fees for higher education, or provide it for free? Government should charge fees because it is well known that the `education' is often only a small part of the university experience. Students spend far too much time and money drinking, partying and wasting time. Even if there is an argument for funding higher education itself (which we doubt) then it is very hard to justify why low income workers should pay taxes to support the `student lifestyle' of people who attend universities. As long as students don't pay, or understand, the full cost of their tuition, they are more likely to take it for granted and be wasteful as they currently do. Though my side of this is that the off time from university broadens every student's horizon more or less.

Estonian Defence League

Estonian Defence League In this world, different people like different things. Some people are into dancing, but some people are into war games and military things. For those, who like the last ones, there is a special organisation, that raises love to our home country in young people. Estonian Defence League even protects our country in case of a war or emergency. It has and always will be free and open to all of those, who are even a little bit interested in it. The Estonian Defence League was preceded in 1918 by Estonia's first armed home defence organisation: The Citizens' Defence Organisation (Omakaitse) against the public disorder accompanying the Russian Revolution. On 11 November in 1918 the Citizens' Defence Organisation was renamed the Estonian Defence League which performed the tasks of a national guard in the War of Independence. In October of 1925 was founded the

and St.Petersburg would have enabled him to easily merge in either place. The long years of study in St.Petersburg, Dusseldorf and Munich ended in 1903 when Kristjan Raud settled at home. A great part of K. Rauds work is based on Estonian folklore. his drawings have been the first to give visible shape to strange and ancient creatures, ghosts, goblins and personificated natural forces and even to tales of flying lakes etc. The magic world of Kristjan Rauds drawings charms the viewer with its epic poetry. In 1935 many Estonian homws acquired a copy of their national epic Kalevipoeg illustrated by Kristjan Raud. This made his name known to his fellow countrymen. Kalevipoeg with Rauds pictures was reissued in 1975. To an average Estonian Kristjan Raud is primarily known as the illustrator of the national epic and as an advocate of

Shatelie world

" Shatelie laughed saying, "The Devil? Here? But there are so many nice flowers around!" "Flowers?" "Yes! Come and have a look yourself if you are so superstitious!" "But won't you kill me?" "Do I have a reason?" "No...I think." "Then it's fine to come closer! And don't forget your violin!" The man climbed up to the first window and saw the girl. She had long blond hair and big deep-purple eyes. "You must be an angel," the man said to her. Shatelie smiled and said she had no idea how this was even possible, because her father was a farmer. "A farmer?" asked the man, "A nice-sounding word to my mind, but what does it mean?" "Well, he owns a large amount of land, where he creates life-forms like plants and so!" "So your father is a god?" "I guess so, in some examples!" "And you are a goddess?" "Shatelie, actually!" "And can you create plants?" "But of course! I even helped to grow the Royal Roses!" "But in that case you're no demon! You came here to save me, my Goddess!"
