"Tallinn old town"

Tallinn Old Town It was built up from the 13th to 16th centuries, when Tallinn was a thriving member of the Hanseatic trade league. It is built on a big hill and is surrounded with big walls. There is a lot of medieval style houses and inns, courtyards, churches and museums and a lot more. Many have described Tallinn Old Town as mystic and addictive. Unlike other capital cities in Europe, Tallinn has managed to preserve the completeness and structure of it's medieval and Hanseatic origin. Even after 7 centuries, Town Hall Square still remains as the social heart of the city and is hosting many concerts and fairs. Town Hall on Town Hall square is the only intact Gothic town hall in Northern Europe, now operates as a museum and concert hall.On top of the Town Hall tower, you will see a beloved guard of Tallinn Old Town Vana Toomas. One of the most impressive churches in Old

Ireland report

Climate Overall, Ireland has a mild, but changeable, climate all year. The island is not noted for its extremes. The warmest recorded air temperature was 33.3°C. The coldest air temperature was -19.1°C Average temperatures in the island vary from -4°C (min) to 11°C (max) in January, and 9°C (min) to 23°C (max) in July. Flora and fauna Ireland has fewer animal and plant species than either Britain or mainland Europe because it became an island very soon after the end of the last Ice Age, about 8,000 years ago. Nevertheless, it is home to hundreds of plant species, some of them unique to the island. Many different habitat types are found in Ireland, including farmland, open woodland, temperate forests, conifer plantations, peat bogs, and various coastal habitats. Fauna Only 31 mammal species are native to Ireland, again because it was isolated from Europe by rising sea levels after the Ice Age

Democracy in the US

The United States is a democracy. The Constitution, laws and traditions of the United States give the people the right to determine who will be the leader of their nation, who will make the laws and what the laws will be. The Constitution also guarantees individual freedom to all. In 1492, Christopher Columbus discovered the New World. Within a few years, the more powerful nations of Europe were claiming great areas there and establishing colonies to support their claims. Most of the colonists were English, but there were also Germans in Pennsylvania, Swedes in Delaware and Dutch in New York. Some of the early British colonists had come to the New World in hopes of enriching themselves, some came because Britain forced them to leave and some because of the opportunity , which did not exist for them in Europe, to own land or practice a trade

Turkey and the European Union

The fact that Turkey does not recognize the Republic of Cyprus a full member of the EU since May 2004 has been a source of legal controversies and political complications. (Joseph, J.S., 2006) In that regard, there is still an open question that how can a candidate country conduct accession negotiations and sign an international treaty with a country it does not recognize. That is a big problem and question that Turkey has to deal with. TURKEY WAITING ON THE DOORSTEPS OF EUROPE While some oppose Turkey's full membership on cultural-religious grounds, others view Turkey as a ,,poor and populous country, waiting on the doorsteps of Europe, trying to push in". It is a fact. One of the most important reasons for Turkey's desire for membership is economic. Turkey wants to enter the EU in order to become wealthier, more developed and more stable. Turkey is not alone in that sense. All members came into this Union with the same motives. Britain, France, Germany,

There are about 50,000 megaliths in these areas Over the centuries they have variously been thought to have been used by Druids for human sacrifice, used as territorial markers or elements of a complex ideological system, or functioned as early calendars History Practically nothing is known of the social organization or religious beliefs of the people who erected the menhirs

How to Make Tourism in Tallinn Profitable

Europe. Here are such attractions as the Medieval Old Town, Kadriorg Park and Rusalka monument. These are the main places people usually want to visit. So, we must develop our tourism system. For example, make up some journey programmes with elements of the Estonian tales. That certainly attracts much more tourists in Tallinn. Moreover, Tallinn has the good benefit in its geographical location. Estonia is like a bridge or gate between Europe and Russia. And Tallinn is the heart of Estonia its capital. Estonians could get some profits from such situation, but for some unknown reasons they did not do that still. The only thing we need to solve this question - is to get on well with Russia. Our two countries, as we are neighbours, could sign an agreement, which would let youngsters to go to study abroad as the exchange students. This point can improve not only tourism, but population ageing problem as well.

Poverty in World

Poverty has also been described as the number one health problem for many poor nations as they do not have the resources to meet the growing needs. But poverty is not restricted just to developing countries. Industrialized nations are also seeing a sharp increase in poverty. While the current form of globalization is resulting in additional wealth, the disparities are sharp. Less people are turning out to be benefiting while an increasing number are left behind. Even in places such as Europe and USA, poor people still do not seem to get enough attention or resources to help alleviate their problems. Certain types of poverty in various European cities can be regarded as worse than in some other parts of the world which one would not normally think would compare with Europe, such as India.

Because of the geographical orientation of Scotland and its strong reliance on trade routes by sea, the kingdom held close links in the south and east with the Baltic countries, and through Ireland with France and the continent of Europe. Following the Acts of Union which united Scotland with England into the Kingdom of Great Britain, and the subsequent Scottish Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution, Scotland became one of the commercial, intellectual and industrial powerhouses of Europe. After the World War Two the United States and the USSR were the dominant military powers in the world, but they had very different forms of government and economy, the USA a capitalist democracy, USSR a communist dictatorship. The two nations were rivals who feared each other, each ideologically opposed. The war also left Russia in control of large areas of Eastern Europe, and the US led Allies in control of the West (each had atomic weapons) . Arguments also rose about Poland. The USSR wanted Poland to have a communist government while the others wanted a democratic. Finally they agreed on democratic elections but most of the candidates were communist so the communist still got to power. In between the countries which were controlled by the communist and the countries which were on the USA's side an iron curtain was drawn. Military

The Domician Monastery

But the name could be split into two words "Domini canes" which means "the hounds of the Lord". The torch represents the flame of truth. The monastery was celebrated for its scholarship Its best known prior was an Estonian from Tallinn named Mauritius. He studied theology in Cologne with one of the most eminent medieval scholars, Saint Albertus Magnus, and may have been a fellow-student of St Thomas Aquinas. Mauritius completed his studies at the University of Paris, which was then the best in Europe. On his return to his native land Mauritius kept in touch with colleagues in Germany. His intellectual stature is indicative of the quality of the monastery's leadership. The offerings made on the occasion of such family festivals made a significant contribution to the monastery's finances. The various guilds gave gifts when their feast days were celebrated. The Merchant Guild, for example, each year in December gave the friars a tun of meat, a tun of codfish, and a tun of peas

Biodiesel is based on the oil crops, such as rapeseed in Europe and soybean in the USA and Brazil. In tropical regions, biodiesel feedstock can also be sourced from palm, coconut and jatropha oils, but these are currently not major feedstock for biodiesel. Tallinn

As an important port for trade between Russia and Scandinavia, it became a target for the expansion of the Teutonic Knights and the Kingdom of Denmark during the period of Northern Crusades in the beginning of the 13th century when Christianity was forcibly imposed on the local population. Danish rule of Tallinn and Northern Estonia started in 1219. In 1285 the city became the northernmost member of the Hanseatic League - a military alliance of German-dominated cities inNorthern Europe. The Danes sold Tallinn along with their other land possessions in northern Estonia to the Teutonic Knights in 1346. Medieval Tallinn enjoyed a strategic position at the crossroads of trade between Western and Northern Europe and Russia. The city, with a population of 8,000, was very well fortified with city walls and 66 defence towers. During the Great Northern War the Swedish troops based in Tallinn capitulated to Imperial

Benefits and drawbacks of the EU

Benefits and drawbacks of the EU Joining the European Union in 2004 has definitely brought some good and some bad things to Estonia in the past 9 years. As they say, you have to take the good with the bad. One positive thing that almost immediately pops into my head is the fact that being in the EU makes travelling so much easier between the member countries. So, along with the EU currency the euro, travelling in Europe has never been this easy. Now people don't even have to exchange their currency when travelling for example to Finland. But the simplification of travel could also bring some drawbacks. With leaving the country being so easy, many students who are looking for better opportunities abroad now have the chance to easily leave their homeland and maybe never come back. So Estonia is losing some of its valuable young people. And since the use of euro, prices have gone up a lot, and Estonians are

Illegal Immigration in America - essee

A better solution would be to punish companies who take advantage of the cheap labor provided by illegal immigrants and stop them from paying the immigrants under the table. This would mean that if a person wanted to find work, he or she would have to be documented. Of course there are other ways to try and fix this issue but I think this one would work the best. The issue of illegal immigration is not only familiar to the U.S; it is also becoming a problem in Europe. It is legal to move from an EU country to another so we don’t really think about illegal immigration that much but recently the number of illegal immigrants from Africa and the Middle-East has grown quite a lot. It has been estimated that in 2012 at least 72 000 immigrants entered Europe illegally. The issue isn’t as big here as it is in America but Europe should take action before it’s too late and the problem gets out of hand.

This is a big concern for a country as little as Estonia, and also a reason why the decriminalizing cannabis topic has grown so popular lately. Cannabis, as a soft drug, is criminalized in Estonia

Should a mosque be built in Tallinn?

In addition, most of us don't oppose the building of churches, even though Estonia is currently the 3rd least religious country on the planet. Many people fear that the building of a mosque would open a door for Islamic radicalization in Estonia. I for one, find that very hard to believe since the main cause of radicalization is not religion, but the feeling of exclusion. The feeling of not being wanted within society. Many parts of Europe are currently caught in a vicious circle A terrorist attack occurs, so people no longer want Islam in their home town. The muslim population, as a result, feels alienated and pockets of radicalized muslims start to form . Every so often, one of these groups commit another terrorist attack and thus, the wheel just keeps turning. Unless we find a way to break this circle, things will only get worse as time goes on. We must keep in mind that the road from legitimate suspicion to rampant

Vana-Kreeka kunst

Tuntuima Ledat kujutava maali autor on Leonardo da Vinci (1452 - 1519). Leda seisab siin rüütult hiigelluige kaitsva tiiva taustal. Nende ees murul mängivad kaks imikueas poisslast, taamal paistab suur muna, kust peaks peagi kooruma Ilus Helena koos õega. Kahjuks on selle meistritöö originaal kaduma läinud. On säilinud üksnes 16. saj. tehtud koopia. Üht säilitatakse Borghese galeriis Roomas, teist Salisburys Suurbritannias3. Sugugi vähem pole kunstnikke paelunud EUROPE röövimise motiiv. Europe oli Väike- Aasias paikneva Foiniikia kuninga tütar. Moondunud taltsaks sõnniks, ilmus Zeus merekaldal mängiva Europe juurde, röövis ta ning viis mere taha Kreetale. Seal sünnitas naine Minose, Rhadamanthyse ja Sarpedoni. Europe röövimist on sageli kujutatud antiikaja seina- ja vaasimaalidel. Hilisemaist Europet kujutavaist maalidest on tuntuimad Veronese, Tiziani, Rembrandti, Tieppolo ja Serovi teosed.

Ireland Ireland (Irish: Éire, Irish pronunciation:) is a country in north-western Europe. The modern sovereign state occupies about five-sixths of the island of Ireland, which was first partitioned on 3 May 1921. It is bordered by Northern Ireland--part of the United Kingdom--to the north, by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Irish Sea to the east and the Celtic Sea and St George's Channel to the South and South-East. The legal name of the state is simply "Ireland", but its legal description the Republic of Ireland is sometimes used to differentiate the state from the island.
