The Mayor Environmental Problems in Estonia

The Major Environmental Problems in Estonia I would like to talk about the major environmental problems in Estonia. There are many of them but I would like to point out the most important of them: air pollution, huge amounts of waste because of overconsumption and abuse of the natural resources. To begin with, air pollution is a big problem in big cities and in industrial areas. Air pollution is often caused by the exhaust fumes of the cars or by big factories. It affects nature and peoples health causing them breathing problems.

The Major Environmental Problems In Estonia

The Major Environmental Problems in Estonia The environment and saving it are important topics in today's world. In fact there are often several articles in newspapers and on television about environmental problems all around the world. To begin with, Estonia is a little country with small towns. In spite of that there is pollution. Most of the people here have their own cars and they prefer driving five hundred meters by car than walking by foot. In addition to that pollution is also caused by industries which are often located in towns near peoples' homes. As Estonia belongs to developed countries, people have enough power purchased and they mindlessly buy things they do not even need. According to that there is overconsumption which also

Kahetiivalise ehitise ühte poolde kavandati teatri-, teise kontserdisaal.

Art predating World War II is exhibited on the third floor; the fourth floor houses an exhibition of works from the period of Soviet occupation. Tallinna naiste ja meeste ökoloogilise jalajälje võrdlus

Tallinna naiste ja meeste ökoloogilise jalajälje võrdlus Töö teostamiseks viidi 2011. aasta algul Tallinna elanike seas läbi küsitlusuuring Tartu Ülikooli poolt koostatud ökoloogilise jalajälje kalkulaatori http://www.ut.ee/mobility/jalajalg/, abil. Küsitleti kokku 155 inimest, neist 100 naist ja 55 meest. Küsitluse viisid läbi SA REC Estonia töötajad. Kuna inimeste keskkonnamõju oleneb suuresti nende vanusest, siis valimi koostamisel lähtuti Tallinna elanike vanuselisest struktuurist. On teada, et suurim keskkonnamõju on tööealistel inimestel, kuna lastel ja pensionäridel on see märgatavalt väiksem. Tallinna elanike vanuselise struktuuri alusel kujunes valimi suuruseks 107 inimest. Käesolevas töös oli ökoloogilise jalajälje ühikuks globaalhektarit inimese kohta aastas – gha/in a. Globaalhektari all mõeldakse pindala, mis annab niisama palju toodangut kui maakera kõigi vastaval aastal elukooslust kandvate hektarite keskmine. ...

How to keep Estonians in Estonia - kirjand

which they are not able to pay back after graduating. They have to get a well-paid job. But here in Estonia you can't get a great job unless you have a relative who's a top executive. Because of this many people go to a foreign country for a short time. At least that's what they say. Most of my friends and relatives who have gone abroad years ago are sure they are never coming back to live in Estonia. I'm not sure if it would help to keep Estonians in Estonia if kids would have a normal childhood but it really makes me angry that they have to be able to read at the age of 5. I think it wouldn't hurt to be able to read before school if the kid is interested in it. But to put pressure on them at such a young age is wrong. School is a place where kids are forced to do things they don't like but it shouln't be like that in kindergarten. What i'm trying to say is young people don't have time to do

Estonian War of Independence

Estonian border. The War of Independence had begun. The situation of the Estonian Republic was rather desperate. Organizing of the army had just begun and less than 2,000 men could be sent to the front (without a single cannon). However, the Government headed by Prime Minister Konstantin Päts decided not to give up without a fight. During the first month of war Estonian soldiers were forced to retreat and the Red Army was able to occupy North- and South-Eastern Estonia. The university town of Tartu soon fell to the Red Army and in the beginning of January 1919 the enemy was just 40 kilometers from Tallinn (the capital of Estonia). At the time when few military units and volunteers of the Defence League showed desperate resistance on the front, intense organizational work took place in the rear. Colonel Johan Laidoner (since January 1919 Major General) who became Commander-in-Chief on December 23, 1918 was the coordinator and soul of these efforts

Estonian Independence Day

February 24: Independence Day The Republic of Estonia was founded on February 24, 1918 when the Salvation Committee, Päästekomitee, declared the independence of the Republic of Estonia. This date was celebrated as the Day of Independence until the Soviet occupation of Estonia in 1940. During the Soviet occupation, the Independence Day was festively celebrated in Estonian communities around the world. Every year, the US Secretary of State sent greetings on the occasion to the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to the United States, Ernst Jaakson. On February 24, 1989, the red flag of Soviet Estonia was replaced by the blue-black-white Estonian national flag on Toompea and since that time the Independence Day has been celebrated as a public holiday again

Comparison of Education in Britain and Estonia

Comparison of Education in Britain and Estonia When looking into the educational systems of Britain and Estonia, several differences appear. In this essay I am going to point out some of the most distinguish features in the education of both countries. Firstly, there are dissimilarities in the age at which children go to school. In Estonia the age is 7 whereas in Britain children start their educational journey already as young as 5 years old. Primary school lasts 6 years just like in Estonia but the pupils in Britain are 2 years younger when they finish primary school than the pupils in Estonia. However, students in Britain and Estonia finish secondary school at the same age because secondary school lasts 5 years in Britain instead of 3 like it is in Estonia. Altogether, compulsory school in Britain lasts 11

How does the United States influence Estonia? The United States of America is one of the most influential countries in the world. Its’ influence can be seen even in Estonia. Estonian national security is built upon being a member of NATO and it is dependent on Article 5. Therefore, it is important for us to be in good political relations with America because it is the most influential member of the organization. To stay in good terms some of our political decisions might be affected by the United States, however, it will stay out of the public view. Although Estonia is not directly dependant on America economically but as the

Estonian language surely is very beautiful but has a lot of loans from other languages. Also in colloquial language, especially with the younger generation, we switch a lot of words. Like instead of saying "vabandust" we say "sorry".

Forest industry, agriculture and other human activities in the nature, as well as pollution, disturb and even endanger the life of wild animals. Firstly, big forest machines disturb animals. For example, in winter the machines disturb animals who hibernate in winter. As a result, animals can leave their habitations and go somewhere else where is quiter. However, things have improved in recent years. What has been done to improve the environment in Estonia? People today are too lazy to think or to do something to protect the environment. They dump their waste into forests and even rivers which causes air and water pollution. Fortunately, people have come up with different organisations and events to help clean our envrionment. An annual event such as ,,Teeme ära!" motivates people to go out, spend time with friends and family and have fun while cleaning up the trash. This event first took place in

Estonian cuisine The traditional cuisine of Estonia has substantially been based on meat and potatoes, and on fish in coastal and lakeside areas, but is influenced by many other cuisines by now. In the present day it includes a variety of international foods and dishes, with a number of contributions from the traditions of nearby countries. German, Scandinavian, Russian and other influences have played their part. The most typical foods in Estonia have been rye bread, pork, potatoes and dairy products. Estonian eating habits have historically been closely linked to the seasons. In terms of staples, Estonia belongs firmly to the beer, vodka, rye bread and pork "belt" of Europe. näiteks võis ära eristada India ja Hispaania. Minu siiamaani kogetud kultuurielamused said kindlasti lisa ning silmaring avardus jällegi. Liis Venelaine 10B

Essey: How does the United States influence Estonia

Diana Ostrat Essey How does the United States influence Estonia? The United States of America with it's global economic and political superpower is one of the most influential countries in the world and therefore it’s influence can also be felt in Estonia. Fluctuations in Estonia’s status as an independent country have had significant impact on the amount of influence from other countries, whether it is the language, eating habits or lifestyle. But how has United States influenced Estonia after we gained our independence? Estonia is not economically dependent on the United States as they are not one of our most important trading partners, but as the economics of the United States has a great influence on the

Most needed professions in 21st century in Estonia

21st century century when the world around us changes faster than ever before. With that accompanies different changes in our everyday lives. Nowadays there is growing demand in highly qualified workers and not only in big empires but also in smaller countries like Estonia. In Estonia the most needed professions are connected with computers, different hi-tech machines and healthcare. Firstly, in my opinion the biggest deficit is in doctors. The main reason for that might be that the studies take a lot of time, sometimes about 10 years, which means that we can start working at the age of 28 to 30. Another reason could be that doctors are in my opinion very often underpaid and with that comes up another problem. In hope to get bigger salaries they often go abroad leaving our

We do not know what is going to happen and what will he really do, but we do know, that people are afraid of his promises and they are fighting against it. I hope that people would not give up for their hopefulness and they would not let him control their lives. Since 23rd November 2016, there is new government in Estonia, that is being led by Prime Minister Jüri Ratas. The government consists of the prime minister and 14 ministers. Before the change, there was an enormous crisis in the main Party, Reform Party. They were arguing a lot and the previous leader Taavi Rõivas did not control the Party and also he could not control the government. That is the reason why Taavi Rõivas was forced to resign from the government and he stepped down as the chairman of the party. The new government left the

A business student´s insight into life in Estonia

07.11.2012 A business student´s insight into life in Estonia Estonia is a very small country compared with other European countries. But we have lots of students and universities which are internationally appreciated. I am also new business student in university and i have my own opinion. How can i see the life in Estonia? Positive side is definetly the location. We are located near the Baltic sea, which means that around us there is one of the fastest growing market. Also we are near the biggest cities in Europe. It means that we have lots of tourists who want to visit our country. Positive side is that we have unique nature and old town. Also in Estonia there are lower prices than neighboring Scandinavian countries. Estonians are successful in creating different e-government solutions. We have e-school, e-

If I were the Minister of Education in Estonia

If I were the Minister of Education in Estonia During my years being a student, I have noticed that there have been some changes in the Estonian educational system. Some of them are useful, some are not. Yet I think there are still many things that could use a change. I think, that one good change has been made related to the national exams, they have been improved a lot. This has assured an ongoing high level of education in Estonia. Our colleges' curriculums have also certified our college students' competitivity worldwide. I would like to bring out the education getting more and more creative as a positive change. I have noticed the use of active teaching methods and personal approach to the students. If I would be the Minister of Education, I would make the first change in turning the educational system to be more student-centered. I find, that not only those students need personal

If I were the Minister of Education in Estonia

If I were the Minister of Education in Estonia If I were the minister of education in Estonia, I would change many things. Firstly, I would rather spend our money on building schools and purchasing new equipment for teaching, than wasting it on our tough national examinations, because there are a lot of schools that would need a new building. Secondly, English would be taught as a second language at schools. It must be a compulsory subject, because most of the world's population is talking English. I would have all the textbooks revised so that they would be updated with latest

Estonian flag and what are the symbols of Estonia

Dear Elijah, I’m writing to tell you about the Estonian flag and what are the symbols of Estonia. The national symbols of the Republic of Estonia are the Estonian flag, coat of arms, anthem, but also the national bird and flower. They all have great meaning for Estonia, although nowadays it often tends to forget. The Estonian national flag is a rectangular piece of cloth, which consists of three equal width horizontal bands of colour: the upper band is blue, medium black and white underside. The correlation of the width and length is less imporatnt, but fixed as 7:11.

Argumentative presentation: Estonia does need a nuclear power station

Argumentative presentation: Estonia does need a nuclear power station Good evening. My name is Margus and I will be talking to you about why does Estonia needs a nuclear power station. My talk consists of 3 parts: the current situation, renewables and how can nuclear power save Estonia from an energy crisis. My talk will last for 2-3 minutes and questions can be asked at the end. Power consumption is increasing exponentially in all civilised countries. Estonia's coal based power generation is becoming obsolete in the near future. The question arises : "Where will the future generations get the energy that they need?". First of all, in the current year, the power consumption reached the highest of all tomes in February

Life in Estonia through the eyes of an economics student

Life in Estonia through the eyes of an economics student I have been studying economics for a few months now and I would not say that my point of view on life in Estonia has changed. There are some things I recently started to look on differently but I am not sure is it because of TUT or not. Through my entire life I have seen Estonia as a strong and fast growing country which is also a fact because Estonian economy was one of the fastest growing in the world until 2006 with growth rates even exceeding 10% annually. I find it being quite impressive. There are some fields which Estonia can fill with supplies by itself. We are nearly energy independent country, supplying over 90% of our electricity need with locally mined oil shale. Estonia has also an alternative energy sources such as wood and peat. I could call myself

Are young people living in Estonia patriots of their homeland?

makes you feel more Estonian and what an overpowering feeling of unity it gives. It has been always said that Estonians are singing natoin and young people carry this tradition on and all over the world, advertising and introducing it proudly. Furthermore, there are many young men and nowadays also women, who want to take part in time service, which is indispensable when crisis situation should brake forth, because those people are trained and prepared to fight for Estonia whenever it is necessary. They are ready to give their life for the freedom of their homeland. One the other hand, there are many young Estonians who want to go to study abroad and sometimes they stay there for the rest of their lives. They think that life is better compared to the contitions Estonia has to offer. Also, many young women are convinced that Estonian men are dolts and wusses and think that foreigners make much better husbands for them and better fathers of their children

Why was life better-worse in Estonia 50 years ago?

Why was life better /worse in Estonia 50 years ago? If we go back in time 50 years, then we will find ourselves in the year 1958. Certainly it was not one the brightest periods in our lives, because all the Estonians were occupied by Russians and the governing power was also held by them. It was a time where we never even dreamed about life we are having nowadays. The way of life was very complicated, people had limited rights and all the things we nowadays have done by machines were all handmade. These are the major reasons, which made me think that life was worse 50 years ago than now. Why was it so? Firstly, nowadays we can speak about many comforts, which 50 years ago was not so. In 1950s' there were any conveniences at all everything had to be made by yourself and people were living a poor life. People did not have the chance to own expensive technics(as a matter of fact some of them were not invented yet or it jus...
